Sorry, just got back from GenCon where I averaged 2 hrs of sleep a night, will post in a day after I get much needed zzzzz's.

Nightwish wrote:

I've only been able to see the posts made up until this past Tuesday!

Tuesday ? I may have an idea. It should not happen again.

And I love that the minotaur got all dolled up and had no place to go ! The hobs pullling a Conan are lasting longer !

Free action. Coraline shouts 'Lady Amie, Hans ! or any others who may be able to '

'There is a spellcaster up top I mean to get to, are there any protective spells you can cast on me so I can engage him without fear of losing my faculties ? ' Protection from Evil or some such ? Or maybe a Haste ?

I'll take the hob on H10 because my fellow party members look like they have the one on I9 covered.

For ease and speed I rolled for all three attacks here and will apply modifiers to the rolls as I did above.

Although faced with multiple foes, Coraline seems determined to make it up the stairs where she feels the greatest threat still awaits.

Coraline tries to dispatch the foe in front of her with Inigo Relámpago and her lesser sister with a full attack, double wielding, Shock Rapier +1, 13 + 12 + 4 (favored enemy, BAB, weapon finesse)= 29, second attack with Shock Rapier 16 + 7 + 4 = 27, off hand masterwork rapier 9 + 12 + 4 = 25.

Damage to hob = Shocking Rapier (from 2 attacks) and here = 19 + 8 + 6 (favored enemy + Str each added once per attack) = 33 damage.

Masterwork Rapier = 3 + 4 + 1 (favored enemy + 1/2 Str) = 8

Total damage 41 points, Coraline knows that her opponent may still be up SO ANY OF YOU MAY WANT TO FINISH HIM OFF THIS ROUND PLEASE DO !!

Also I will take an AoO on a hob tries to get past me.

Nightwish wrote:
22 Coraline - moved at the end of last round, so can full round this round, if she wants.

if you insist

: )

Nightwish wrote:
if you are moving with all possible haste to the upper level, four of the hobs are dashing down the stairs at the same time, so unless you stop

I guess I have my dance card filled by these four for now; back to the wall, rapiers set to 'kill', crits for all.

Nightwish wrote:
Coraline

Thank you.

Despite the chaos (and new arrivals) Coraline is still amazed that the hob withered the blows, undaunted the ranger presses her assault.
Shock Rapier +1 19 +12 + 4 (favored enemy, BAB, weapon finesse)=35 !

Roll to confirm critical 13 + 12 + 4 = 29.

Damage ( 3 +1 + 4 + 2) x 2 for crit (+1 magic + favored enemy + Str) = 20 + 10 for lightning from rapier = 30 damage.
By the way if you look at that last link it’s kind of funny that the dice roll for Coraline is right next to an ad for the animated movie ‘Coraline’ : )

I’m hoping that and my initial attack is enough to send the hob to humanoid Heaven, as a move action Coraline beelines at all possible speed to the upper level, taking acrobatics checks if needed. I would love to take on the minotaur but tactically my skills are better against the plain vanilla barbarian hobs.

As a Free action Coraline shouts “There are eight more hobs upstairs with a minotaur champion, but their bugbear leader by the right rear corner of the manor is a powerful spellcaster and is the greatest threat !”

DM Nightwish

Spoiler:
Note: A few pages back I said I cast Expeditious Retreat, I meant to say I cast Longstrider, sorry for the ‘clerical’ error, I mentioned this a page ago in a spoiler tag for you, I will use this as needed to get around in combat. Please move Coraline as you see fit, after all she is still being ‘driven’ in part by more than herself, the bugbear is the choice target that she wants to get to at all possible haste but she will not bypass the hobs if they are in a position to flank her or the others in the party.

Nightwish wrote:
Coraline 22 - not posted action yet.

Because Coraline's player was moving apartments and was a numbnutts and was refreshing page 14 of the thread when he should have been looking a page 15 - apologies, that will be remedied soon (also I thought I lost a round as I had to reorient myself as 'Coraline').

I'll post tomorrow, in the meantime, post here for the new Pathfinder monk !

Setting up for next round of combat.

If there is more than one wounded hob Coraline will split her attacks.

Perhaps because of the strike she received from her hated foe, Coraline’s actions are once again her own, adrenaline pumping through her she goes for the kill, the dance of death is joined Inigo Relámpago and her lesser sister come unsheathed full attack, double wielding, Shock Rapier +1 17 + 12 + 4 (favored enemy, BAB, weapon finesse)=33, off hand masterwork rapier 14 + 12 + 4 =30, second attack with Shock Rapier 16 + 7 + 4 = 27.

Damage to hob = Shocking Rapier (from 2 attacks) = 22 + 6 + 6 (favored enemy + Str twice) =34 damage.

Masterwork Rapier =4 + 4 + 1 (favored enemy + 1/2 Str) = 9

Total damage 43 points, Coraline finishes off by taking a five foot step to either help set up a flank or to get out of the way so more of her companions can get through the doorway.

As a free action can I shout a warning ?

DM Nightwish

Spoiler:

Question: Can I shout out a warning to the party regarding what I know of the other humanoids ? Or is that player and not character knowledge ?

Note: A few pages back I said I cast Expeditious Retreat, I meant to say I cast Longstrider, sorry for the clerical error.

Note: Please roll 2d4 – 1 on table top dice, the number your roll is when Coraline’s ‘guest’ resumes control of Coraline, don’t tell me the result until the round I have to ‘switch’ over.

And thanks for getting the game group back from the ashes !!

DM Nightwish

Spoiler:
Int check =17+ 1 = 18.

Looks like the Ranger has temporarily reasserted herself from the Sorceress.

So I can't take any other actions this round ? Can I take a five foot step in to give access to the other pcs milling about the entry ?

As if coming out of a dream, or swimming against a slow current, Coraline realizes these are not her actions nor her thoughts. She fights desperately and questioningly with her mind and spirit to regain control of her body, to master her movements before …

TOO LATE ! Coraline is struck by a hobgoblin, a strike that she would have eluded had she had she not been overcome by … the voice, no not just a voice but a presence.

It … no not 'it' but 'she' the Ranger realized. And SHE was still here, within her.

And despite her regaining some semblance of control, even as her years of training and discipline kicked in, even as her fingers expertly wrapped around her weapons to draw them fluidly from their sheaths, a lone word escaped her lips, a word she herself would never utter in this manner.

DEATH !!

Nightwish wrote:
the hobgoblin rocking him backward. (He's taken 45 damage, but he's still up).

That's not a 1st ed hobgoblin, I'll tell you that much !

Amie is in initiative as well right ? Nightwish I sent an email to clarify something.

Nightwish wrote:

The +4 will apply (but the 18 will not be a crit for an unarmed strike)...
Coraline: damage was 14

I mentioned that I don't think the crit will apply in this case, but I think my total damage would be 18, once you factor ranger bonus, and my initiative is 20 (roll of 14 + 6 for Coraline Dex, but please adjust given Coraline’s not making the DC 15 check when you rolled)

Does Coraline get anymore actions in the surprise round ?

I rolled a crit up thread that I did not get to use, I know that an 18 is not a crit in this instance but why waste a good roll : ) In this case I guess my touch attack is 34.

Coraline 'Claret' Chandrila wrote:

18 +12 (BAB, Weapon Finesse) + 1 (Enchantment bonus) + 4 (Favored enemy as applicable) = 31 (or 35).

Roll to confirm the crit 12 +12 (BAB, Weapon Finesse) + 1 (Enchantment bonus) + 4 (Favored enemy as applicable) = 25 (29)

Please feel free to re roll my touch attack if need be and roll damage for me please, both the 3D6 and the unarmed attack. I will focus on the closest hob who went towards me (the door). Does my + 4 damage vs goblinoids work using unarmed combat ?

Nightwish wrote:
Are you saying all this aloud, or just thinking it?

Just emoting mentally - for heaven's sake why would I say that aloud ?!

Oh and ... DEATH !

Thanks for the recap DM Nightwish, I sent you emails yesterday because I was not sure if you were looking at the OCC thread.

We should do this in the OCC thread. I thank my fellow gamers who are staying with the game.

That leave us with five right ? Maybe because of some of the withdrawals we can get some of the group back. And I would also like to thank Nightwish for his DMing our group so far and I hope the other players stick with this.

Also since I had Expeditious Retreat on I hit the manor sooner. Let's do this !

Invisibility and Expeditious Retreat (being used to cover more ground) are active.

Coraline starts into the manor, wary of traps and alarms, and even while invisible, stays by the walls as she heads to the source of the sounds.

I have Invisibility on but if you need a stealth check later on 14 + 10 (skill + bonus) = 24. Are there any other doors that Coralline passes before reaching the one the voices are heard from ? And as I asked above are they goblinoid ? Also, do you need me to make any knowledge rolls regarding the surroundings.

I was under the impression that I had a few rounds to reconnoiter before Avon Draconic could peddle his wonderous cook ware?

Our company avoids stealth like the plauge but at least we do have panache and subtlety of a Benny Hill episode : )

Claret doesn't notice anything right away in the immediate area, but she can hear gruff voices further back in the house, beyond the double doors at the end of the foyer.

Are they goblinnoid?

Do you guys know something I don't ?

: P

I'm a few rounds ahead of the group, hopefully there will be enough left of me to bring back to life.

No problem, sorry you had to go through all that to post the map ! Post a little blurb on the ooc thread about the concert.

Nightwish wrote:
You see no hobgoblins in this first set of rooms, but the moment you step into the foyer, you feel an unnatural chill.

Coraline may have the stomach being the advance scout but after looking at the map and reading you’re the description I suddenly have the hibbie gibbies! Can I make any perception or knowledge rolls for the best way to continue ahead ?

Coraline steadies herself as the wave of unnatural cold temporarily halts her in her gusto to proceed. She throws a look behind her shoulder to confirm that Barley and the company are not too far back from her rapid advance.

She then looks and listens for any clues on how to continue further egress into the manor. Coraline mentally braces herself and with caution (and one last look over her shoulder) she proceeds in …

Perception 11 + 11 +2 (to Sight and Sound) = 24 (I’m guessing this is no longer favored terrain)

Since this is my only night off this week ... let's get this party sarted!

Our DM's up rather early. Or really late like me (7:00 am yikes I need to go to bed soon!)

As I stated, if no one from inside comes through the manor door I go in ...

Sevegny wrote:
I'll cast invisibility on Coraline (6 rounds, starting ... now!)

Thanks Sevegny (six rounds, not minutes?), and with Expeditious Retreat I'm off ! If the hob drops to thier attack I enter through the manor door, where I am already, if not I can intercept the hob if need be, but I would rather save the 'invisibility' to get a drop on the party boys inside.

Nightwish wrote:
Who is using the Oathbow? Red Feather and Sevegny can buff folks with their Invisibility if they want, and we can say they did that before the start of combat, but you'll need to tell me who is getting it.

Could I be a recipient of an invisibility ? This way I can enter the manor ? Also, I did not use the Oathbow because I thought others would want to use it but if everyone shy's away from it now I'll use it against the Half Catoblepas to put it out of its ugliness.

Re post from last page Initiative 9 + 6 + 1 (favored terrain applicable?) = 16 (or 15 I guess inside the manor which is no longer 'forrest').

Me as well ... you are the voice of reason, temperance and moderation, the rest of the party are the yelping chorous of mayhem, chaotic charges and blood lust (hey that's what PCs do) ... I guess to each his own ... Fortune favours the Brave (and the Reckless).

I wonder is yeti fur would be good as triming on a cloak ... fashion first !

Red Feather wrote:
Don't forget RF can make up to (4) of us invisible as well.

Can I assume Coraline went 'cloaked in invisibility' before heading to the manor proper ?

Initiative 9 + 6 + 1 (favored terrain?) = 15 (or 16).

I rolled a 27 (or 33) above for perception to see if there were hidden guards or sentries. If none are apparent, with Expeditious Retreat Coraline and Barley head for the Manor door as soon as the second (hopefully) hob falls, Inigo Relámpago will impale the first of the opposition that comes through the door or if none come out 6 + 13 + 2 = 21 inspects (perception) the door for traps or glyphs. And Inigo Relámpago’s eldritch lightning begins the to do its work inside 18 +12 (BAB, Weapon Finesse) + 1 (Enchantment bonus) + 4 (Favored enemy as applicable) = 31 (or 35).

Roll to confirm the crit 12 +12 (BAB, Weapon Finesse) + 1 (Enchantment bonus) + 4 (Favored enemy as applicable) = 25 (29)

Nightwish wrote:
The Invisibility spell lasts one minute (10 rounds) per level. So if you cast it, it will last one hour.

I assume that's 6 minutes, not an hour, (I miss 1st Ed!) did Sevegny cast it ? If no one uses it, can I take it to infiltrate the manor ?

Sorry for a prolonged absence all, but better late than 4th Ed. I don’t even know what that means.

Coraline would have cast Expeditious Retreat before the company sallied forth.

Spot check 14 + 13 (with a possible + 4 for favored enemy and + 2 favored terrain, forest if applicable) = 27 (or up to 33!) Coraline would have scanned for any hidden guards and/or any lookouts from the towers or windows of the manor and told the rest of the party before engaging.

Would you like me to take a crack with the oath bow to bring down the hob, I will at least have my favored enemy modifier OR My preference would be, please cast invisibility on me and I’ll head to the door and get a bead on any of the enemy the dares poke their head out and Tate (and any other missile or wand hurlers) drop the remaining hob, this way I’ll be in position to take advantage of our surprise.

This is before that other hob decided to go cliff base jumping. These young hobs and their newfangled hobbies...

Nightwish wrote:

DUDE ! That's just harshly wrong : P

Sent you a quick email. I could not log on yesterday for the whole day. At work right now, I'll do what the group wants to do. So we have a hob I see ...

I've got 100 gold, a glove of cure light, and a flask of ale on Tate! And I'll give a 15 hit point handicap. Place your bets !

DM Nightwish

Spoiler:
I have that book but have not read it cover to cover. And please feel free to add any more, and not just magic items, but npcs, traps, artwork and the like as well ! I love fleshed out campaigns. The SRD is an amazing piece of reference work but it is not the end all and be all of 3.5.

Nightwish wrote:
1. Did Tate remove the hobgoblin to the other clearing before or after Amie did her Channel Energy ability?

I myself was under the assumption that the hobs were affected by Amie's channel energ, part of the reason we were able to revive themfor questioning. I do not belive Sevegny used the ability (hence I'm only healed by 15 hit points). Again this is from our game thread and since I am niether of those players I will let them give you the official tally.

DM Nightwish

Spoiler:

By the way I really enjoyed the read for the gauntlets and the glasses as well, where did you get inspiration for them? If its part of the game don't worry I'll ask again down the road.

Coraline gives Barley a stern look for playing with his food, the glances over to the newly discovered acquisitions, 20 +4 = 24 for the lenses, and 7+4 = 11 for the gauntlets. and thinks she may have some insight for the lenses at least.

To Barley the eating machine:

'BARLEY RYE !' Put that down ! You don't know where that's been ! Well to tell the truth ... you don't know WHOs that been !'

To Lady Amaranth:

'I have never seen the likes of that which you have just entrusted to me my lady, if I may, I would ask where it came from. Or even what exactly 'it' is?'

To the Lady Amaranth:

'Is there any message or any tidings you wish us to deliver to your fey friend, m' lady. Will the gnome be able to provide aid to your cause ? And is there any token of yours we can give the fey to prove that we have had words with you?'

Questions for the hob leader: if you have questions you want to ask, let me know

Spoiler:
Tell me of your leader and his captains.

Where did he come from ? How did he come to power ?

Who does he serve in turn ? Surely even he has a patron.

Who ordered your strike here ? What importance do these woods have for your army?

How many days march is your main force from here ?

How does your warlord have maintain such a force ? How do you supply your army ?

What types of creature are allied with your leader?

What wizards, priests and healers serve in your force? What are their name’s and what have you seen them do ?

What types of dragons have joined your force ?

Have you seen beings from other planes other than these hell hounds ?

Do any humans march with your warband ?

What was your army's next objective.

Tate and Nightwish

Spoiler:
Tate Argensier wrote:
"Option one: You can tell me everything you know about the leader of your band, and of the one that is gathering your people and equipping them for war. I will check your intelligence against what is extracted from the leader we caught. If you tell the truth, and our magics confirm it, I will let you take one weapon from the ground here, and we will finish this. You will die a warrior's death, or you will slay me, and have a chance to gain freedom. You will be master of your fate again either way."

Tate should be interogating the leader as well. I was actually thinking of giving the leader that very same option but did not think the party would go for it – even as far as healing the leader a bit to make it seem ‘fair play’. After giving us all the information he knew or was willing to divulge I was going to cast one cure wounds on the leader , lay a sword on the ground, untie him and make the offer ‘between your freedom is only me …’

Also I think the druid should have a say in what we do with the prisoners.

Amie wrote:
She may also take one of the masterworked glaives (thinking of hacking the blade off and using as a staff). The barding Ben can use as no one else can at the time being and then Barley Rye can have it once it is made to fit him (or maybe we will find some to fit Barley Rye).

Ouch ! I guess that's one way you can make a masterwork staff !

: )

I thought the bow would be a better fit for your character, let’s discuss that on the occ thread, and I think Barley will see more combat than Ben but please have Ben use it for now. In fact, if you folks don't mind, let’s please move the divvy up of treasure to the occ thread so it does not bog down the game thread.

‘Perhaps the hobs were testing your peoples’ defenses, or their resolve. This group is a mere a advance scouting party, the leader over here was very keen on keeping out of the initial fighting but kept close watch over the combatants. And they certainly have a lot of raw power for such a small band.’

‘Maybe this hob can shed some light to our inquiry,’ Coraline turns back to the hob leader.

we posted at the same time, and Nightwish is obviously a faster typist.

So that's one aid to my roll for a total of 30 Intimidate for the hob leader ? No one on the paizo board could answer why intimidate was not included as a Favored Enemy bonus.
