Monster Description Cards Kickstarter
Monster Description Card Kickstarter

There are only a few Early bird specials left, so I wanted to give my favorite forum a heads up.

Monster Description Cards are extensive storytelling tools containing purposely unique flavor text to add realism or memorable characterization to creaturesand their subsequent events. These cards provide keywords to spark your imagination and example phrases for their use. Written by novelists and organized by dungeon-masters, the cards are designed for quick on-the-fly use and inherently add randomization. The list of monster parts uniquely depicted include, but are not limited to, the following:

Horns

Teeth

Claws

Protrusions

Bodily Forms (Hides, Ears, Eyes, etc.)

Tails

Wings

Tentacles

We're live, thanks for your time.

Hi, the below Kickstarter is two years in the making. I am sharing it with the community of my favorite game with the hope that they will love it as much as we do. — MAGIC DESCRIPTION CARDS.

FAQ...
Q: "if I were to get the "...Cards - excerpt", does it contain everything that is included in the full "Storyteller's Deck"?

A: The Excerpts are 12 cards out of the 80 card deck. The excerpts are from the story teller's deck and only contains the cards related to the title. For example, the pain cards have 12 cards full of pain descriptions plus the cover art, Art variations and product ads and nothing else from the storyteller's deck is included. The full product is The Storyteller's Deck with 80 cards and can be found here:

I got the PDF and have to agree; the art is pretty awesome. I don't know why he doesn't mention this but they got layers in the pdf, so you can click a button and print just the formatted text and images. But the background art and all of the big splash pages ( which I love, but don't want to print) go away. I waste a lot of ink on 3rd Party suff so this a great little feature that I wish other publisher would do.

Thanks for the nice words about the product. The Adobe layers feature isn't that hard to implement via Adobe Indesign. As long as you go into the project with that goal in mind. A few of the other features of the pdf are shown in the IMAGE HERE . However, It might be too small to see clearly.

Hey Lyingbastard (funny name),

I think mentioned this in the other threads and sites so forgive me for repeating it. But to address your thought here, two of the five writers that contributed to the project spent a ton of time working different levels of PVP into existing campaigns like the one you are running.

In fact, you’ll find organized lists of plot hooks, magic items, artifacts, rule adjustments, and dos and don’ts for adding PvP to your existing Pathfinder campaign, allowing this book to double as another resource for the GM.

Wouldn't help too much. I put these kinds of decisions firmly in the hands of my tech team. I am happy with any decision they come up with for what types of things folks are allowed to put into their posts.

-Lisa

Lisa, thanks for the reply. If this can be simply discussed by the Paizo tech team, I would be delighted.

Here's what I mentioned to Adam Daigle who reached out to me:

"On pazio.com, the level of engagement by Paizo fans is tremendous. As is the support Paizo provides 3rd party publishers. What I am calling for is, a single segment of the forums where 3rd party publishers make their announcements, to support a single product image by registered 3rd party publishers. I feel this would strengthen the already strong forum site and the 3rd party publishers would absolutely love it."

Marc - Paizo's web store is top-notch, no doubt. No issues there, just asking for an image in this specify forum. (i.e. the "Compatible Products from Other Publishers" forum.)

How exactly would you limit it to publishers? Image embedding is an easy way to get around profanity filters. If I could put this image directly in the thread, it would be there until a moderator saw it and removed it.

Requiring moderator approval for such posts would slow down operation on both sides as Paizo does not have a dedicated mod team. Everyone has other duties and the more time they take moderating the boards the less time they have for their other jobs.

Too Funny TriomegaZero - but third party publishers won't do that.

in fact, third party publisher already have special rights to store and forums. We manage inventory, sales, etc, right through paizo.com. Again, the technology isn't the issue.

Anguish wrote:

Why? Because the forum system doesn't support in-line images and video, or rich-formatted text. The forum isn't for advertising products, particularly. That's what the store is for.

One then gets to ask "why is that the case?" I've got to think it's deliberate. I'd think the simple answer is: to keep the forums clean, reliable, fast, and easily moderated.

We don't have to dink around with annoying (ie. large / animated / out-of-genre) signature graphics here. We don't have to dink around with annoying meme pictures in place of replies. We don't have to dink around with people embedding their latest crappy YouTube video in the middle of a useful thread. We don't have to deal with exploits due to malformed text breaking the rich-text parser.

We don't - in short - have to be stuck with the same annoying crap forums that everyone else gets. vBulletin was cool back when fewer obnoxious people had Internet access. Paizo built this system from the ground up to do exactly what we want and what we need.

Amgish and Silverhaire2008,

I apologize but I need to paste in what I said before:

Hi Nimon, I agree with you, except that pazio would not be the leader in RPGs if they didn't build products off customer feedback. Which they received through these forums, yes?
And emails yes? This isn't exactly feed back this is one company having issues with another company, such dealings are usually done via those channels. The way you presented this its as if you have unearthed some vile treachery and are calling for the community to correct it. I think you going to be sadly disappointed.

I'll send an email. no problem - Liz Courts very responsive.

But Nimon, consider the cost of project. It's everything except cheap, right?. If fact, based on "Cold Napalm" thoughts—Its complex and involved.

Typically, a project like this gets the greenlight after there is evidence of necessity. Which maybe, just maybe, this thread can produce. A single email from scrubs like us at Conflict Games "ain't gonna cut it". (Although I will try)

I don't get why there's a problem with just linking an image or video or whatever.

Sorry Cold Napalm but, I am really not buying that technology is the issue. I think it a matter of putting it on Paizo's leadership team radar and someone at the top greenlighting the effort and budget.

Hi OceanShieldwolf, - I don't think I convey the request well enough. My own site has plenty of sample pages, (1) video (although, I need more video with the actual product.)

What I am saying is: Why can't product images be on this forums?

It really tough differential yourself as a publisher from the other with just text. Mostly because of the volume of announcements.

I think a picture of the product once someone clicks the thread would be great for the paizo fans.

I don’t think anyone can deny the sales from the products of third-party publishers are an important revenue stream for Paizo. In fact, I’ve hear Lisa Stevens (CEO) say there have been times where the web store kept the company afloat.

Then why, oh why does this forum dedicated to third-party publishers, have such terrible support for Images, Video or Rich formatting?

If this is where Pazio’s fans are going to get there news and announcements from third-party publishers, why can’t we add a simple picture of the product we are announcing?

Just to be clear, I am not calling for the entire forums to support images and video. The cost for storage and bandwidth would be a tremendous burden. What I am saying is, how about allowing registered third-party publishers to add a single image to our announcements.

For Example (same announcement):

vs.

Paizo: http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2pkb3?Advanced-Player-vs-Player-Mechanics-and

Outside of the fact you shouldn’t bite the hand that feeds you, am I wrong?

Hey - Just ran across this thread. I am the creator of the Conflict PVP system for pathfinder. I would love to host/GM a game for anyone interested online using a VTT.

BTW: conflict has a battlepoint system that evens the characters out before the match and a ton of scenarios to play.

Vistaris: Paladin/Cleric are nasty in pvp but beatable.

The Conflict PvP: Tactics and Teams rulebook adds advanced player vs. player mechanics to Pathfinder. Offering gamers a slew of dynamic new match types, traps, boons, build kits, and over 30 pre-made combat optimized characters. Whether you're looking to perfect your 5 foot step, test your insane character build, or simply grind your table-mates into the dirt, Conflict PvP: Tactics and Teams has the tools you need to show your friends a bloody good time.

Conventional Campaign Integration: Like conventional Pathfinder campaigns, Conflict PvP uses a game master to run the matches smoothly, handle meta-gaming, hidden movement and ensure everyone is having a good time. In exchange, Conflict PvP has dedicated chapters to the art of GMing, where any Gamemaster can find great nuggets on improving their craft. Moreover, the Conflict PvP: Tactics and Teams rulebook offers up many ways to sprinkle player vs. player competitions into existing campaigns. Several well-organized lists of plot hooks, magic items, artifacts, rule adjustments and dos and don’ts are added in, which means not only can GMs shake their campaigns up with PvP, but now they also have another great resource for their traditional campaigns

The book is set to release in the end of April 2013.

Again, for a short while, pre-ordered books sold through www.ConflictPvP.com include two full-color 24” by 36” Battlemaps and the hardbound book for $20.

“This is a really strong product… it is so impressive…” – Ryan Costello Jr, Know Direction Podcast Video: VIDEO of Ryan’s review: http://youtu.be/AJJqv1JqgAE

Even More information::

Conflict PvP is chock full of light-weight rules like the Battlepoint system, which allows players to measure their crazy character builds. Each match is assigned a maximum number of points. Participating characters' total values must be under the match maximum in order to be part of the match. This simple structure keeps combat fair and consistent.

By adding easy-to-use coordinates to official battlemaps, and providing double-sided passcards, the game designers of Conflict PvP have finally cracked the age-old problem of hidden movement in tabletop RPG games. This means opposing players will be unaware of each other’s movements when using stealth or magical effects like invisibility. In these cases, the players' miniatures are actually removed from the battlemap. Their characters' map’s coordinates are shared through a passcard until a revealing attack is made; making surprise sneak attacks truly a surprise.

The printed version of the Conflict Role-playing Rulebook is only 9.99 on the paizo website with the pdf thrown in for free.

So, by this reasoning a Rogue could just sandbag all their rogue talents at levels 2, 4, 6, and 8, and then at level 10 suddenly acquire 5 advanced talents?

I don't think that's how that's supposed to work.

I agree for the most part. However, if the GM say you're starting off at 9th level then I think its OK.

More importantly, I think we are looking for some proof in the RAW.

+ 12 hit point for 1st

+ 48 hit points from the other 8 level using an average of 6 hp.
+ 9 from favored bonus
+ 63 from Con + "Raging Vitality"
equals 132 .

We are play-testing the latest Battlemaps from conflict games. This tentative name of this map is "MidWarden" (see attached).

We can choose from 15 types of PvP match. The one below is the simple slayer's Matched called "Brother's Keepers:

Objectives
Slay all opposing characters.

Victory Conditions
The last team standing, wins.

Here’s the Twist!
1. Each team will have exactly two members – no more, no less.
2. Each team of two shares a pair of rings that allows them to communicate
telepathically, absorb some of the other’s damage, swap places and even to bring the other back from the dead.
3. A character who has been killed can be brought back to life if his Brother avenges his death within 3 rounds.

I will GM the match. We need 4 to 8 players.

If we can grab 4 players than the next Match can begin as early as Sunday the 13th. I can be available anytime on Sunday.

If not than we can also go with Wednesday Nights after 5pm est.

Games sessions tend to last 2-3 hours but, of course, it can go longer.

Pre-Gen characters will be available! We have a 30 stats blocks to choose from. I will add an image from the PvP book of the character PDFs that will be available.

We will have some digital prizes and rewards for the playtesters!
More to come...

I agree about Roll20.net. They have a great community size too, so you can usually find a GM or a group for pathfinder.

Also If I may give plug :) they are hosting Conflict PvP for pathfinder sessions there too!

Although, I have feeling that if PFO's Kickstarter gets to $800,000 then it will magically get funded at the last second.

The game designers will need to have the writing skills to expand and document their ideas and comments. This is not a new product and the analysis portion of this opportunity is key. This product has been hitting the stores and selling well for about year now. So there is an distinct starting point for this new edition from the original books.

There is also a forum (forums.conflictrpg.com) filled with suggestions and comments. So please keep in mind this is an effort to build off of a current system and integrate the advances that Pazio have made with pathfinder.
