Yes, that is correct.

Thanks! :D

Hey all,

Just a quick question about the faction feats

Is the bonus feat in addition to all the other regular feats you get at level 1?

E.g. My character is a human barbarian with the standar P.Att. (human) and Cleave (level 1 PC). Do I get a faction feat in addition to this?

Thanks for your help.

Cheers! :D

Just got back to London from GenCon. It was great to see you all there to have little chats with about what you do and how it all works. Thanks for the chat and games! :)

It's always a treat to meet up with Wayne Reynolds, but this convention brought several "mystery contributors" to light for the first time, including the redoubtable Richard Pett, Eva Widermann, and Rob McCreary.

I always find that like radio, authours are never how you expect them to look. It was rather odd when I during a game of Pathfinder, I saw the cleric hand the bard his Campaign Setting book and asked for his signature. Confused the hell out of me. (Not that I'm saying any of you wonderful people have faces for radio... ... ...)

Enjoy your London venture!

Cheers! :D

Now here's the tricky bit, what do you do about magical armour? Does the magical bonus just add to DR, in which case +3 Leather offers the same protection as Platemail?

I think magical armour bonuses should add to AC as in my imagination magical armour produces a kind of small force-field around the wearer. That's just me though...

In theory, I like this idea (it works well enough in Conan RPG), but it might be problematic in terms of balance. Unless there's a level-based bonus to AC (such as in 4E), it doesn't work with the low and high ends of the "spectrum".
Definitely, it would have to have some sort of level-based defense bonus to work, hence I would have a BAB/2 dodge or competence bonus to touch AC, with additional modifiers for armour type & encumbrance.

I've added in my own Defence Bonus to D&D to make it a little less reliable on Magic Items:

If a(n) (N)PC has high BAB or Ref progression, (s)he gains 1/2 Level (rd. dwn.) Defence Bonus to AC (half again Touch). If not, (s)he gains 1/3 (rd. dwn., half again to Touch AC). This represents the character's increased reactions in dodging or parrying.

Power Attack could be problematic with lower AC's. Just a thought.

Hence why you should have some sort of Defense Bonus to AC...

Oh, one other question about products.

Is it at all likely that there will be the Beta of the Pathfinder RPG available or would it be too soon?

Cheers! :D

Sounds interesting. Though wouldn't the half damge would take a little more time to work out (I personally wouldn't use it, but everyone's different)?

Though I do think that this would really only apply to games that you know will run beyond Level 11. If they do, I'd more than likely give iterative attacks out at every +10 BAB, as well as an additional half level damage from Level 1 (a la Star Wars: Saga Ed.).

I would also allow the 5-foot step to be taken at any time during the turn, even between attacks, thus sorting out the lack of mobility a little.

Again, everyone's different and I think there is no right way of doing it...

Cheers! :D

Ah, the armour as DR debate.

I'm a mixed kettle of fish when it comes to this, as if you modify the armours to being DR/- the character's AC drops (and we all know how effective AC is at higher levels!).

I've been tinkering with some house rules and have decided to use the Unearthed Arcana armour rules where armour provides BOTH AC and DR/-, as that is what I feel armour does (it prevents hits outright and reduces damage). In response to the dropping of AC, I added a Defence stat based on the BAB or Reflex of the character. Not perfect, but it works for me.

All in all I feel the most realistic way of dealing with armour is to have hit locations, and different DRs for each armour type (some will have more than one), which is too much work for me to be fun anymore (though it would work nicely in a computer/video game...).

Cheers! :D

Wow, there has been a huge number of suggestions here, so I thought I'd add in my ÂŁ0.02*.

How about reducing the rate at which a PC gets iterative attacks, so instead of +1 per +6 the PC gets +1 per +8 or +9, however to speed up combat the extra attacks are at FULL BAB. This I believe would compensate for the reduced number of attacks, and thus also the reduced damage.

Cheers! :D

*Excluding inflation.

Also Joshua verified that the prices will be in pounds and similar to the prices you would see in game shops in the UK...

Which for me most likely means it is still cheaper to get them online since I pay in $ and the shipping price is based on shipping in the US not overseas.

Thanks for the heads-up. I guess I'll work out what would be cheaper for me.

Hopefully, the Pathfinder Beta will be available at the event too.

Cheers! :D

Two questions.

What Paizo products will be available to buy at GenCon UK, if any? I can understand if it's more difficult to get a lot over here, compared to Origins and GenCon.

The miniatures would sell rather well I do think, not being available over here in the UK...

Cheers! :D

Hehe, maybe the big secret is to not go above level 11! ;)

Cheers! :D

Just to throw an idea out there...

Spycraft 2.0 uses half actions (you get 1 action on your turn). Characters don't get iterative attacks, but attacks and moves cost half actions. Meaning that PCs can move-move, attack-move, attack-attack right from level 1. This stays the same throughout the character's career, although I think feats allow more attacks, though I'm unsure.

Cheers! :D

I really like all these sheets, they're all really useful!

@Salama, 2 minor suggestions:

1) Could you make the character portrait box a little lighter like some of the other entries so that any art doesn't blend in too much to the background.

2) Is it possible to make the spell list only 1 column per 'book page'? This way players can also write mini-descriptions of the spell to help them remember what it does?

Keep up the good work everyone!

Cheers! :D

I am another person that dislikes iterative attacks. However, I can see why some people like it and think it should be left in (backwards compatibility and all that).

I have a simple solution that I am implimenting into my games, which simultaneously removes another rule which I dislike (Attacks of Opportunity).

Each PC/Monster has 1 less AoO, meaning a 'normal' character has 0, and a character may take his 5-foot step anytime during his full-round attacking action. This simply makes the battlefield more 'mobile' and reduces the overall chance that a character gets to use all of his/her attacks, without removing them completely. Especially when those clever monsters move out of combat, thus denying a PC all their attacks...

Note: I've compensated feats like 'Improved Grapple' etc. by giving a +2 to the attempted manoeuvre. Whilst 'Combat Reflexes' gives 1+1/2 Dex mod. AoO's.

It seems to work so far...

Cheers! :D

EDIT: Though this does make ranged combatants more deadly, any suggestions?

I think this leak of 4e will kill the RP industry. In a recent interview, Luke Crane (of Burning Wheel fame) ststed that every time a new D&D edition is released, the hobby in general booms for a while. Now these books are apparently available for free, bye-bye RPGs... (or am I being pessimistic?).

Do we have an official Wizards/Hasbro reaction?
(I hope the copies are tracible)

Cheers! :D

A bit like SW Saga Ed...

How do you do that then?

From what I've heard, 4e seems to be too combat orientated for my tastes. But I guess I'll have to see when someone in our gaming group gets his copy of Shadowfell!

Cheers! :D

Hey all, I'm new here, and this is my first post, suitably about my new favourite class.

Just thought I'd point out a little error to the folks at Paizo:

The Sorcerer apparently has Intimidate as a base class skill, but the class skill gained from having Abyssal blood is also Intimidate. Is the Sorcerer meant to have Intimidate as a skill or should this be removed? Or is the Abyssal class skill meant to be different?

I don't know if this has been pointed out before. Sorry if it has.

Cheers! :D
