me and my friend went through the little adventure that comes with it. i liked itover all. but i wish the map didnt take up so much of the screen. also, personal thing, i opened all the spell discriptions for spells i had prepared for the day and minimized them off to the side adn just closed them as i used them. it was VERY helpfull but i wish you could open more than one copy of the same spell for this purpase. any way, back to the point. it wentwell enough

Another vote for Fantasy Grounds. I've had it for a while now and have been using it to create a custom ruleset but I finally got to play my first game in it a week or so ago - it went very well. Couple of little glitches but nothing major.

we acctually just fantasy grounds and agree. we will be using it instead. any chance paizo could put pathfinder together for it for a little extra for us subscribers (is that too many "for"'s? it is isnt it. oh well)

so my freinds and i are going to try an online table top to game more often since we've started moving farther and farther apart. im just getting into this program and havent had any success yet in getting maps from pathfinder into it. http://www.battlegroundsgames.com/ does anyone over at paizo have any experience with this program? or could you recomend something else that would work, i saw the pathfinder upgrades your offering for that other program and was hoping for some similar help here. also i should point out that im trying the free demo so if anyone more tech savy than i, or with a full version is doing this with no problems, please dont make me look too stupid in any replies. thanx

i want to print out "spells" for my chars when they find it in treasure. since scrolls are not usually spells that my chars are familiar with i what i wanted to do was try and find the spells pre-typed up out of the players hand books so i could just cut and paste the spells that are on the page. that way they dont have to look up the spells, they can cross them off when they use them, and i have some thing physical to give them as treasure (always a fun cool touch) any one know where i could find this treasure?

why is this thread not allowing me to go to sleep. ::whines and pounds desk like an infant::first of all didnt know about the nike 180 (specifally avoid name brands). good for them though. second of all, i kind of disagree with kirths views on american politics, i find a lot of people getting so sick of the extremes they simply dont vote or choose sides<--real problem. third: there is a HUGE print factory opening here in Marylands panhandle soon, my sisters freind toured it as part of his construction votech class. so american printing must not be suffering to bad from its loss of paizo's millions. can i sleep now thread, PLEEEEAAASSSEEEE

im at a conflicting state in this conversation. im a union electrician about to top out of my apprenticeship and have been fed brainwashing on a biweekly basis for four and a half years. most of which i whole heartedly believe. i dont shop at the token devil (walmart) i try to buy american made (if at all possible foreign owned american made, screw the over paid bloated execs who want bonuses and raises when their companies happen to do well but give nothing back but pink slips when things slide). on the other hand i listen to my mechanics complain and complain about how the cost of living is so high here we should be making more than locals in newyork, "west virginias local may take home less but their houses cost less. they make more than we do" (wash dc by the way) i have the same house they do and i double pay my morgage on a 15 yr note at only 70% what they make, i just dont have two harleys, a boat, and a f-350 duely to tow it all. as far as safty goes, i had to wait 30 mins for someone to go get me a harness so i could tie off before i climbed an 8ft ladder to drill one hole to support some wire. fallowing safty rules with out any regard for whether they are actually keeping you safe is stupid between the safty guys lost 30 mins and my time $60 was wasted so that if i fell off the ladder i would hang 6" off the ground instead of on my feet where i MIGHT have gotten a twisted ankle. and since none of this makes any sense anyway (way too tired to be typing right now) i work with guys that, when the topped out as skilled laborers, most less that 30 yrs ago, were only making $2 or $3 an hour and a car only cost $500 brand new. the other thing that floated through my head as i read all of your very well worded arguments that make me look the fool right now. when nike began making shoes over seas because american labor was just too much for them and the had to keep the cost down, they still raised the price of the shoe. i dont think any of that is a coherent statement either for or against, infact good luck making any sense of it. i think my tea cup is talking to me know. good night

ok some seem to want an explanation. i just wanted to run War of the Weilded from dungeon. for those of you who have read the adventure. there are more or less only three fights in it and they are spread out. 1. fight to get back the sword. 2. later encounter paladin who quests you to capture big bad rust monster (no encounters in caves except rust monster) 3. take rust monster to warehouse where its clan vs clan vs rust monster vs pcs and paladin only one walks out winner take all. I could put random encounters in the caves and some skirmishes in town but 5 or 6 in a day would just not make sense without the pcs getting locked up and unable to continue.

i read the entire thread last night but his argument doesnt really apply in my case. this person is a TERRIBLE minmaxer and only ever focus' on one aspect of his character. he will simply mind frell everythhing in combat and walk around with a tankard in his hand at all other times never saying or doing anything but combat. it's like saying that the wizard is balanced against the fighter because it cant take weapon focus. the wizard doesnt care. i could try to throw a lot of encounters at him but our parties are pretty accomodating to resting spell casters. it would take a very long time to get them anoyed at constant resting. what i really think would work best is just creating a table like the sorcerer that only allows certain number of uses for new lvl powers or something. he and i will just have to work on it together i guess

ok of my group of 5 people 3 of us DM and none of us allow psions. it just sucks having them use max level spells over and over well after any other spell caster would have to resort to lower powered spells. however one of the none DMing players always asks. I changed the power points to add the level of the power to the previous cost so it looks more like this 1-1 2-3 3-6 4-10 5-15 6-21 7-28 8-36 9-45 pp. using these numbers a sorcerer always comes out just behind the psion on "pp". so the psion still gets more points per level, gets bonus feats, a more effective familiar, the ability to store unused points, access to higher level powers faster and the ability to give up lower level powers in exchange for one or two more higher level ones. the only place a sorcerer comes out ahead is zero level powers (which psions dont have at all). now as far as i can see this solves a lot of the griping that spell casters are underpowered. can anyone give me some good logic as to why this is some how crippling my player and goes against the spirit of psion?

forgot to mention that expeditius retreit wasnt an option and ask how to price that. thats all ... i think

ok. a little back story:
Repsac was born an albino bugbear. His parents betalion was very superstitious about him. The shamens claimed he had an unatural connection to the etherial plane. The feared him for this but feared what spirits my take vengence if they killed him. So he was allowed to live even though no one would associate with him or take responsibility for him. He stole what previsions he needed to sustain himself as he grew older. The commander saw how his temper grew and how incredibly strong he was. It was also apperent that while no one was kind to Repsac it was also obvious how greatly they feared him. Wishing to take advantage of these two powerfull trates he promoted Repsac to LT and gave him his own betalion of barbarians whom he named the Ghost Berserkers (i dm'd red hand of doom and fell in love with the concept sue me). Things went well for a while untill, as things usually work, the commander began to fear that Repsac was growing too powerfull and could usurp his position. So he sent The Ghost Berserkers to the lair of a black dragon with instructions to kill thier leader once the dragon was dead. Unfortunaly for him the dragon took out most of the barbarians before it died and the ones that tried to carry out their orders fell at Repsacs blade. Take the betrayel rather personally he took the dragon to a human settlement near buy and high jacked the black smith and his forge, forcing him to make a fine suit of armor out of its hide. the black smith was SHOCKED to be paid with the very dragons hoard at the end of the ordeal. Repsac then set out with the rest of the hoard to find a wizard of sufficient power to bless the armor with sentience so that he would always have a companion that he could trust to get his back.

now for the help part. i gave it an int 10, cha 16, wis 16, +1 lt fortification, +10 ranks in sense motive (to spot those that would take advantage of him),and the ability to cast cure moderate 3/day (incase i rage myself unconcsious). any suggestions on what else my armor could do to also help keep me breathing and pretty? i was thinking expeditious retreit once per day with the cool character quirk that it would only ever agree to cast it if i was acctually running. never to give the an edge going into combat, plus its dismisable if i ever try to lie for the boost. thoughts?

my group and i all chipped in 20 or 25 bucks to buy a case of boosters each time a new set of pre-painted mini's came out untill we got tired of all the none MM monsters and repeats of the same character posed differently. now we just use what we got from that (a small plastic drawer about half full) we painted numbers on the repeats so that we can tell orc archer number 3 from number 8. we used the dire boar for our large creature for months untill we got more its still our favorite for when we dont have the real deal. we have tiny, small, md, large, and huge covered with just three, maybe four, sets. it cost me about $100 over a couple years. I'd say it was worth it though.

In my homebrew, I've done the same thing to the goblinoids- goblins, Hobgoblins and Bugbears are all parts of the same race.

As to why they haven't conquered the world, basically they are just recently coming to power. For too long the big mean Bugbears and small, sneaky goblins have shattered any hope of a united goblin empire, despite the best intentions of the Hobgoblins.

Finally, a strong Hobgoblin Warlord managed to keep all the goblinoids in order long enough for them to accomplish something. The new empire is starting to take root and may well be the end of humanity, but it depends on the Chaotic nature of the bulk of goblinkind...

you soooooo need to pick up a copy of The Red Hand of Doom

my group has always held some belief that orcs were overly vein "fallen" elve i believe one of them said it was a tolkien thing(sorry i only got half way through fellow ship OMG im glad i didnt own a gun). i kinda liked it

ok i'll be fair. we had a dm that was not experienced but "familiar" with 2nd edition and tried to run a game for us about 10 yrs ago. it obviously went horribly. so a friend and i went out and baught the starter box. it came with a set of dice, pregenerated characters (regdar, lidda, melei, tordek, all those guys) 2 or 3 adventures, a combat map, and little disks to rep the chars and mons. it was awsome. we loved it. not even understanding we had just adopted the 3rd edition rules we went out and baught some phb's and found out another of our freinds was vastly more familiar with the game and wanted to run a dragonlance campaig (again not understanding there there was no 3e dragonlance at the time). it was rediculous. he played a 9 lvl drow sorcerer/rogue/shadow dancer thing npc with a stileto that critted on 5 and did on average about 50 damage. we were first level. he never used a combat map, just a dry erase board and we guessed about where we were on the dang thing. there were six of us players and we had fun i guess, but he went away to college and we baught some pregens and a DMG's began to evolve 3 of us as DM's 2 worked out. long story unnecesarily longer 2e and i have bad roots and i cant possibly see what anyone see's in it, how you exist with out a combat map i will never know, and how you keep from hanging each other from the rafters to let the blood drain from the bodies of the endless rule debate wars is beyond my infantile brains capacity (as is spelling, grammer, and puctuation) this isnt meant to be an insult to those of you who love your classic editions, just my opinion. i will say i agree with the post about magic items and between game shopping taking some of the heroics out of it but as a power game i just cant help meself. theres too much cool stuff to use out there i just cant wait for it to fall into my lap. was this rant sufficiently long enough?

Hhhmm... I didn't get that completely.

A standard bow attack is a standard action.
Many Shot bow attack is a standard action, too.
Rapid shot is a full round action.

So it should be possible to apply rapid shot to a normal attack as well as to a many shot attack, shouldn't it?

Greetings,
Günther

thats how we read it as well. could some one explain the grammer (legaleZe) that contradicts this logic. the phb description of Full Round Action seems to simply be you get multiple attacks (didnt realize you could take a full round action to full attack in a surprise round, learned something atleast)

Allen Dawson wrote:

If you're doing this with the 3 core only, start out with Point Blank Shot and Precise Shot ('cause friendly fire isn't friendly). Take Rapid Shot and Manyshot, but remember you can't combine the two. Rapid Shot is usable only as part of the full attack action, so you're getting the same benefit as a ranger with the Two-Weapon Fighting Feat (i.e. one extra attack). Manyshot allows you basically to stick and move when you use it, by giving you effectively all the attacks of a full attack action in the space of a standard action (albeit with penalties) and still permitting movement. Your wife might also want Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization, Greater versions of both, Shot on the Run, Far Shot, and Improved Critical. Oh, and a composite longbow, masterwork and mighty at that. If she's a fighter, that'll keep her busy for a bit. If she's a ranger, she'll have to forgo the Weapon Specialization route, of course.

I think that sums it up. Someone else can start working on the list of magic items you'll need.

im not looking at her sheet but im pretty sure thats exactally what she has (that why i hate core 3. no room for creativity, just play it as its writen)

so is there any set times or days i could expect to run into some good conversation? or is it just hit and miss. personally im in the Wash DC area and online between 4pm and 6pm. probably pretty early for most, but i would love the oportunity to hang out with some of veterans of the message boards (pretty new myself)

The only problem is that those articles don't seem to be too widely regarded (I don't know if it's that people haven't read them or they just choose to ignore them). Just look at the anti-gnome and halfling sentiment that many posters have expressed their groups hold in this thread. There are several threads buried deep...

i dont know. no one seems to have a problem playing elves, dwarves, or humans. the explanation for humans seems to be there everything you want. but theres no more develepment for any one race over another. i know im my games my characters just wont take the penalty to weapon damage.(were crazy minmaxers)

Saern wrote:

Re: the humanoid discussion above. I agree that "savage humanoids" (orcs, goblins, kobolds, etc.) make very good player races. The only problem is a lack of a defined culture. This hurts them in two ways.

1. It makes it difficult to see/explain how they could turn from being "just monsters" (which is how they are treated) into PCs. The general impression one gets is that "normal" folk run from these beasts on sight (or kill them, if capable).

2. They all overlap. Just about every savage humanoid is portrayed as a stupid, evil, tribal, cave-dwelling monster. Do we really need more than one of those? The amount that any given race gets used then become a matter of DM preference- why specific set of stat bonuses do you find the most appealing, or which looks the coolest? Rather than actually having identities that make sense in the game world.

I've done quite a bit of work on the races in my world so that I can actually make them distinct and "valid" (gnomes need this treatment, too, and even elves and halflings to an extent, as mentioned above), and I encourage all DMs to do so as well. I am sooo happy Pathfinder is actually working on racial identities. And I dare say that players will respect the singing, psychotic goblins of Varisia!

Oh, and (although I love them) I think elves are probably the most overused "common" race, and only second in underdevelopment as a (PC) race and culture (after gnomes).

dragon put out two incredible issues 291 gnomes and i cant find my halflings (my first issue) add in eccologies for the kobald and omg does that shoot a hole in your argument. i could agree more on the goblinoids though

Rambling Scribe wrote:

I've run an all goblin campaign and it was excellent. I gave the players options of goblins, hobgoblins and bugbears and they all opted for goblins.

Size small with a 30' move makes up for the -2 Cha. I think Goblins are the most playable humanoid race in the monster manual beyond the 7 major races. Orcs are probably second. I'd never play a creature with a LA, I've never seen it be worth it.

not worth it? are you kidding me? look at the stat adjustments for Minitaurs, bugbears, centaurs, and satyrs. an ecl 3 barbarian minitaur gets his rage, fast move, reach 10ft, 6d8+1d12 hp dark vision out to 6 feet, crazy bonus' to stats (i think +6 str and +4 dex and con -2 Cha)bab +7 i think (no mm here) and what did you give up for all that? uncanny dodge and trap sense 1?

and as far as cool concepts that are fun to play, you cant beat a bard satyr with pan pipes

back to the point of the thread though, goblins make excelent NPC merchents in shady areas and i do love saytr inn keeps, maybe a centaur stable keeper.

i love Kord as a deity. he's not overly stringent on the spread my word and all things good. plus its really fun with the brawler flavor. disarm, grapple, trip. imobilize your enemies its fun. especially grappling. cast spiritual weapon then grab a spell caster and just let it wail on him. rogues sneak attack better, they cant cast, get spiked armor and go to town. (sorry im listening to dane cook and lauging too hard to really concentrate so this really doesnt make sense so im done now)

i learned to draw by redrawing comic books. by seeing how arms and legs positioned in different ways relationships and ratios. i did the same for dming i baught a few pregenerated adventures and saw how stories were paced, story boarded, advanced... it also helps take the preasure off some. using someone elses story that is already together gives you the chance to sharpen your skills on the little details that "make a dm" once your comfortable running an adventure then pick up the DMG. read the chapters on drowning, weather, little things like that will not only give you lots of ideas for challenges but also ad realism and individualism to your adventure.

some advice i would have for new dm's. 1. dont give your players everything they want. at first its a lot of fun creating power characters but it gets boring, for you and them, just mowing over everyting in your path 2. dont be affraid to kill them. you want them to have fun. but you want to have fun too and its you versus them. i have forgotten so many characters over the years but the ones that died are always with me (i miss you garlak) 3. pick up some ecologies. paizo has put out some awsome material. reading even one creature ecology will spark dozens fo ideas. who would have known the weak kobald stereotype was acctually a kobald conspiracy to hide a powerfull culture of clever and deadly enemies.

finally one last plug Red Hand of Doom is an INCREDIBLE example of how to string challenges into and adventure you will never forget (i want to play part four over and over..."congradulations you finished part four of the adventure. now before we move on to part five, roll up some new characters were doing it agian"

How about, oh, I don't know, a fighter? With a greataxe? Or a cleric, maybe? Sorcerers are fun, too. Just pure PHB class/race combo (I'll admit, there are plenty of spells and feats from other books that I regularly take an interest in).

my current campagn is "purly core 3 books" as per DM because we have a new player. i am going out of my mind. im playing a barbarian with out extra rage, or extended rage (never mind the cleric gets them for turning) a wizard or sorcerer can play with spells all day. it takes about 10 secs to make a barbarian you dont even really need a character sheet, just play it out of the book. luckily the monster manual is one of the core three so i got to pick a cool race.

my dm didnt allow it but if yours would... i wanted to play a barbarian/rogue minitaur (seriously their stats look broken) and our gnome bard was going to lead me through towns by my nose ring bluffing people that he enchanted me and i was no threat, then get an exotic saddle and ride me in combat

almost forgot. she also wanted me to ask if anyone has suggestions on how to increase the attack bonus to offset the -6

my wife is putting together a ranged specialized fighter (dm wont allow the scout :( in fact core 3 books only) anyway could someone please clarify the stacking of many shot and rapid shot. at 9th lvl can she really fire 6 arrows with three attack rolls simply by taking a -6 to all attacks i know they wont all hit but thats 6d6 potential. make the bow flaming and its 12d6. clarity please...

how about themes based on class. druids restrict armor, wizards use robes and wands maybe a few different looking spell bookds, barbarians have little use for any, instead of buying multiple sets for just in case play, let us get started with targeted stuff. sure some stuff will overlap, like everyset could use backpacks, but you can take advantage and have a simple hide backpack in the barbarian ranger and druid packs and nicer packs for rogues, wizards, and bards. if thats too hard try wild packs, city packs, fighter packs, and arcane packs, kinda like the complete books lump them together.

side note-as far as clothing goes...it sounds like some people want those little paper dolls that you fold the tabs over so they can dress their characters. lets not get too carried away people

sort of a side to the full thread here. does anyone know of anyone selling indevidual cards. i know there a lot of pleople who like to buy cases of boosters? i didnt see anything on ebay

Hierophantasm wrote:

I thought the Monster Manual IV was ingenious, as it represented a fully-integrated way to use whole encounters with the presented monsters. Though less bulk, more dressing, that dressing made them that much more accessible.

Here's hoping the Monster Manual V continues in the tradition of making the monster manuals more than just bulk baddies.

I thought they had a line of books for that kind of thing. the Dragonomicon and the other one for Aberations i cant remember what its called

personally i just see it as a way for wizards to once again avoid making a complete set of minis for the core books so we can all continue to play using minis that kinda look like the monster were fighting

i know this thread is more or less done but i just wanted to add that my freinds and i have been playing since 3.0 came out and simply cant create chars using the players handbook anymore (really we tried under the rules of "this campaign is core 3 books only" and all loop holed to monstrous races) but working out how to make a character concept work with the rules and the one on one time required with the dm is the best part. i played a rogue that went nutso after one of the other players (his best freind) died in combat and took barbarian starting next level (a decision reached once i learned i could sneak attack while raging)any way thats my two cents 0)

ok, so was that little set of selections there the whole time and i just didnt scroll down far enough? because i feel like i should have let my 4yr old handle this all along right now

i posted this same question a little while ago and if i he doenst really really want you too i do. i have the exact same problem

::kicks the dirt with his still bodyless soul:: dangit

acctually the transition page is entirely helpless or im missing some text or button. how do i subscribe using credits for my mags it only gives me an option to pay with credit card. is there a promo code or something i need to know about? is it automatic? if so i was thinking about getting the month-to-month and just buying it out right since im getting the same 30% as everyone else and then taking my 120% store credit. but it wont let me get my store credit yet? could someone please clarify the process? (and if all works out well then yay, my soul has an avatar body)

i tried to post in another thread but i guess its hard see us avatarless bodies just floating around. anyway, one - has paizo considered a "free copy" voucher to be mailed so i can just pick my copy up at borders and keep my $4 credit to put toward other pathfinders and two - i cant figure out how to redeem my dragon and dungeon sub credits so im not sure. is the 30% off month to month the same for people redeeming credits and everyone else or does one come out ahead of the other? finally i just got a one year subscription to dungeon and havnt even acctually received an issue yet. can i just opt out of the last few to apply all that toward pathfinder (i also got a year to dungeon to continue my 5 yr streak but want to keep getting those)?

quick question. i havnt gone through the process of what to do with my credits yet but would it make more sense to get 120% refund in store credit and use that store credit for pathfinder month to month at 30% off? or is the pathfinder credit for transfer already accounting for that?

My only problem with this is losing $4 of my credit to shipping each month. cant you just send out a "free pathfinder" voucher and borders can pay my shipping?
