Heard about this over the weekend, for you Browncoats out there. ;)

Worst case scenario? You spend a couple hours watching Firefly. I call that a win!

Go to this call to arms.

Come Thursday evening, I'll be in my bunk...

Okay, I think that spoiler notice in the Subject is enough. If you're a player and reading this, go away!

So... Between RRR and VV I ran "Realm of the Fellnight Queen". Finished that one, and the players are now off to Varnhold. Because of that, I think they'd kill me if I kept Varnhold as-is. "More spriggans?!? You're dead, DM!"

I've instead decided to swap the sprigs out with redcaps from Bestiary 2. The PCs are starting VV at 8th level, and I have six players (when they all show up) so I don't think it's too terrible that the CR will be jumping up a bit. And I'll likely decrease the # of baddies slightly.

Has anyone else increased the CR of these encounters? If so, what creatures did you use? Anything I should be aware of? (Apart from treasure--I've that figured out and will be altering where appropriate.)

Much obliged for any info. I think I've decided on a Redcap Fighter 4 as the leader. My PCs have been waltzing over encounters throughout the AP (due mainly, I'm afraid, to my poor rolling on saving throws. Sad, really...).

So, I've searched the boards and I'm afraid I'm still unclear on an aspect of adding class levels to monsters. Anyone able to give a clear answer?

Specifically, I'm looking for clarification on the bonuses to ability scores (+4, +4, +2, +2, 0, -2). Am I correct in assuming that I would take the creature as-is, and add those bonuses to whichever scores seem appropriate for the class they're taking? That seems right, but I'm unsure if one should be going back to a monster's "base" stats before proceeding with the bonuses, or anything else I might be missing.

For example, I present to you a Centaur, Fighter 1:

Base Centaur:
Str 15, Dex 14, Con 15, Int 11, Wis 14, Cha 12

What might the stats change to when adding 1 level of Fighter? Straight addition?

Str 19, Dex 16, Con 19, Int 11, Wis 16, Cha 10
Str +4, Dex +2, Con +4, Int +0, Wis +2, Cha -2

If this isn't the case, then I'm not sure how to proceed. (If this is the case, I'm thinking too much--a habit, I admit--and should knock it off and stop making things difficult for myself...:)

Many thanks for any help one can offer!

Hello,

With the upcoming release of the revised Inner Sea guide, I wished to know if, for the purpose of writing modules, the 3.5 guide is still usable as a reference source? I would believe so, but I'd just as soon not make an assumption. :)

My Thanks,
ChrisO

After last weekend's game, I just had to post a few tidbits about the nutso players in my campaign. Some of their decisions have come from far afield...

They call themselves "The Misfits", and I've taken the liberty to highlight some memorable events from this campaign:

- Making friends with Kobolds, to the point of allowing said creatures to sell baskets of Moon Radishes to travelers...and not asking a copper for taxes in return.
- Building a park for their city, then taking creature trophies and fashioning rides from them. (A Scythe Tree swing set, for example). They put the park next to a Temple, so the hurt kiddies could get healed free of charge. While parents at the park hate it, the little tikes can't get enough of the dangerous rides.
- Sending a certain bardic rabble-rouser back home to cause mischief for the other guys. They paid him well, too.
- And this last weekend they voted on a law of Lord's (and Lady's) Right (basically primae noctis) for those citizens getting married. No idea where this one came from--caught me rather off guard. I suspect a good deal of elopement in the kingdom's future...

I'm of the mind that, as long as my players are having fun, that's the important thing. Sometimes, though, I wonder how this crazy group came together in the first place. Then I remember I invited them...

Just starting VV next session, and I'm wondering where this eclectic kingdom is heading... Should be entertaining to find out, though.

Anyway, I had to share. I told my players I would after their latest law was invoked. ;)

I'm running the third installment currently (Hook Mountain Massacre), and the PCs spotted the Sihedron tattoos sported by the NPCs who went to Paradise. After doing so, one of the PCs did a Detect Magic on the tat. I looked throughout the book, and through the first two books, and couldn't find any answer as to what I should tell the PC.

Does anyone know if these tattoos register as magic? I would think they'd register as *something*, given what they're used for, but I'm not positive.

If anyone had any input, I'd greatly appreciate the help! (It's possible I just missed something, as I've not read all the books.)

Many, many thanks!
ChrisO

So, this weekend my players had the Grigori encounter from RRR. After dealing with him on the streets, they took him in for interrogation, got out of him whom he was working for, then paid him to go back there and cause unrest in return.

I was so amused, and flabergasted, that I had to agree. Then felt I had to share with any other DMs out there. I'm still thinking of what I'd like to happen next, after he returns from whence he came and starts up trouble.

Should be fun and crazy! Anyone else have something similar happen? If so, what did you decide to do?

I've tried to keep up with this board and read every post, but I'm sure I've missed some, so if this suggestion has been posted before, it can be safely ignored.

As regards the "discrepancy" in population, it is easily resolved. I consider the population figures in AP 32 a maximum number allowed by the blocks of buildings. A full district (listed as having a pop of 9000, I believe?) can support up to this number, but could be significantly less (look at Fort Drelev's over-building).

Just a thought, if anyone needs a reason as to why the cities in the AP have less than the population they "should". (I know James and the rest have stated that population figures don't actually matter to the campaign, but just in case...:)

I felt it high time to thank everyone who has put up ideas and suggestions on this board. Sunday marked the third session of my Kingmaker game, and the players seem to be enjoying it immensely!

Special thanks are due to James Jacobs and the other writers and contributors, as this is the first published adventure I've ever DMed. It was just too interesting to pass up, and I've been giddy over it for weeks now. You people are fantastic!

For those interested, one of my players took a picture of the map I created. With the kind posts of suggestions and instructions on this board, and a few days of bouncing around ideas for how to cover the map and allow hexes to be uncovered individually, this was what I came up with, and my players got a real kick out of it. (When they move into a hex, I take off a white overlaid hex; when it's fully explored, I remove the pin.)

**Moderator-types: If the link above should not be posted, please let me know and I'll remove it immediately.

So my thanks again to everyone on these boards and involved in this AP. Y'all should be proud of yourselves, and I'm bouncing around waiting for our next session (we're three-fifths of the way through Book 1!)

My most sincere thanks,
ChrisO
