Cerana is an elvish scholar originally from the the Mierani Forest. Born and raised within the sanctity of the forest she yearned to see what the outside life was like. She didn't know much of her own history as that was taken from her and many of the elves years ago including her parents. All she had left was a locket with what she presumes is a drawing of her parents.
Despite her orphan state she was raised by Prolix, an elder in the Crying Leaf village. She would always get him to tell stories of the past no matter how disturbing and told him to recount many of the dangerous creatures in the wilderness. She would listen intently to the tales spun by her adoptive parent. Always paying attention to every detail she could. At the earliest age she could she learnt magic off of Prolix by studying the magic he would weave into his tales. She was quick to learn and always spent her time studying amongst the treetops. She soon learned the usefulness of teleporting from branch to branch as she herself was not all that strong to jump herself. Overcoming her weaknesses with magical might.
Years past and she would always practice her magic either in front of Prolix or in the treetops. Though her magic is currently weak by wizard standards she foresees herself getting much better at these talents. Alongside Prolix she also picked up all the traits typical to an elf, eventually spending some of her own money to help tame a small weasel that she found. The affinity to this weasel slowly grew stronger as she formed an arcane bond with it. This puzzles Cerana to this day as she knows familiar are purely magical summons so how is it that she formed a bond like such. Was her little pet a magical creature to begin with, one question she feels she has time to think about. Cerana formed her bond with her Weasel in the presence of Prolix and inscribed his arcane mark on the creatures forehead to remember him by when they eventually went their separate ways. This was sooner than she might of thought.
A caravan was passing nearby the Mierani forest and the elves as per their customs allowed a few of them to be hired to protect the caravan until it circled round the forest. The elves are very protective of what's left. Cerana despite her young age (for an elf) wanted to follow alongside these strangers to learn more about them or the world outside. She offered her services free of charge, as a fledging mage is always welcome, a spell or two won't go amiss. A few days past and she was very happy and getting along with many of the caravan folk. Though this happiness would not last, a group of drow attacked the caravan in the night. Not everyone made it out alive. The elves were ready for such an attack as many life in their ancestral home of Celwynvian. The scared caravan attendees tried to flee despite the best efforts of Cerana and the elves to calm them. A young boy that Cerana had started growing fond off was struck down in front of her. In her rage she summoned creatures with her magic to attack the drow when those creatures fell she summoned another group until the group was nothing but red smears on the ground.
The chapter leader's daughter Ms.Neirenar had a little trouble calming Cerana down but she managed it. Cerana knew of the stories of the drow though she could scarcely believe their cruelty. Soon after returning to Crying Leaf she demanded Kaerishiel Neirenar let her leave with the caravan so that she might learn information that she could bring back to help the fight against the drow. Begrudgingly Kaerishiel let her leave though would only let her return if she could bring something back of value. She accepted and left with the caravan who was helmed by Madame Niska Mvashti and her young daughter Koya.
During their travels Cerana helped out Niska Mvashti as much as she could eventually becoming an assistant of sorts and a book keeper. She also helped raise young Koya at the time. They eventually help found Sandpoint a small town in Varisia. During this time Cerana continued to take in the land, the travellers and the knowledge that would move in and out of this small merchant town. Proud to see that Koya continued travelling even after her mother gave up that life. Cerana stayed home and was Elder Niska Mvashti's caretaker till the end of her days. Even after her death Cerana takes care of the manor and has a small room for herself that she keeps very little in. Cerana spends most of her days now either writing books or reading those brought by caravans in the small library within the manor.
Cerana Whisperwood used to be quite a cheery girl, always with a glint of happiness in her eyes. After the event with the Caravan, the first time she killed someone, she has become far less bouncy. Putting a facade of professionalism and sternness about her. She began to realise the world isn't as safe or as kind as Prolix would have her believe. She thought it must have been to protect her as she was all Prolix had.
Even now in all her studies she tries to be at least a bit happy, forcing a smile when she can and being amicable. She now finds it hard to socialise as the death of Niska Mvashti hurt her more than she'd like to admit. Though in her heart she truly wishes someone would be a friend she could trust, a friendly soul that would help her.
She has some solace that her 'niece' Koya is one friendly soul though despite Koya's nagging she has yet to make more friends. So she puts up a facade, though it is a very poor one, many can see she is tortured inside but trying her best to not let it get to her. Almost all the inhabitants of Sandpoint know of Cerana, though very few know who she is besides 'The assistant to the late elder'.
Being the now oldest resident in the town she feels out of place at times, maybe it is time for her to start traveling again.
