BACKSTORY
--------------------

History
Cedric's mother was a wandering minstrel, and though she died in childbirth, her troupe raised young Cedric as one of their own. Everyone expected him to take up his mother's lute, but although he came into his own in the area of bardic performance, it seemed to come only as part of his attitude, his friendly and encouraging demeanor, his constant good cheer. To this day he knows no instrument, nor does he act, sing, or give speeches, but he is able to encourage those around him nonetheless, through his snarky remarks and seemingly overwhelming optimism.

When he was sixteen years old, Cedric overheard a conversation between troupe members regarding the circumstances of his conception. While he had always been curious about his father, his caretakers always seemed to change the subject when he brought it up. From the whispered conversation, he gathered that his father was a powerful sorcerer, and that the man's "relationship" with his mother was in no way consensual. Troubled by this information, Cedric did not discuss it with anyone.

Cedric left the troupe shortly afterwards, deciding to make his own way in the world for a while. He signed on as soldier for several years, during which time he gained some skill with a blade. Cedric left the military lifestyle at 20, deciding it was simply too structured, and did not give him enough opportunity for the finer things in life. He has since been traveling alone, but with the drought these past few years, it hasn't been easy. Never one to give up, or indeed to be anything other than cheerful, he took what jobs he could, eventually signing on with caravan for a trip to Gumlat...

Personality
Cedric's anger (and curiosity) towards his unnamed father and his guilt for the death of his mother occupy a large part of his psyche, but they are buried under a great many layers of good humor. He likes to live dangerously, to find the fun in all things, to lead an adventurous life. The rush from adrenaline, alcohol, sex, music, or anything else keeps him from dwelling on the guilt and anger inside of him. Nevertheless, any mention of a powerful mage will instantly get Cedric's attention, and he harbors a certain amount of animosity towards anyone skilled in arcane arts.

In most situations, Cedric is eloquent, if not polite. He is quite liberal with his affections, and does not discriminate based on race or gender. While he is skilled at manipulation, both mundane and magical, he never lies to nor directly attempts to control anyone he has a romantic interest in. As much as he enjoys the affection of others, doing so would, in Cedric's eyes, bring him closer to being his father.
