The Overview:

Canaan is a very misunderstood girl of 19 still young but old beyond her years. Thrice cursed it seems like her very being is a foul blemish on the face of life like all the many other monsters and creatures that haunt the night.
Canaan is very closely connected to the afterlife. She can see ghosts and command the undead, mustering infernal powers Canaan is occasionally haunted by spirits that are angry with her. Angry that she denies what the world tells her she is and angry that she does not give in to the evil that surrounds her.
She is not shy, and she is hard to insult as she already things very little of herself, Canaan is very cool and aloof as she chooses to suppress all her emotions. Disconnected is the word to describe Canaan. She disconnects herself from the reality of her being and keeps it sealed away in her mind, keeping it from crowding her thoughts and pushing her to the depression she had only a few years earlier before meeting the Professor.
Despite many hardships brought on by the ignorance and superstition of the common citizen, Canaan never ignores a call for help and will put herself in harms way if it means someone else, someone normal and not another monster like herself, can live another day.
Needless to say. Canaan is unwelcome in most societies and as such Canaan travels. Wandering from place to place in a deep rut feeling like she has no place anywhere. She feels the call of her true mother, as the professor said she would sooner or later, but the Professor taught her all about the Hag that gave birth to her and would steal away what humanity she has if she responds to the call. Rather then accept the call Canaan travels away from it. Her life as it is is still better then one of a truly evil creature, a true monster.
It was Professor Lorrimor who stole Canaan away from her depression. She was only called by "It" at the time. The Professor gave her her name, and taught her about herself. If it were not for the Professor, Canaan would be an evil Hag at present day. The Professor was the closest thing to family Canaan ever knew. Canaan had received word of the Professors death and the news hit her hard. He was the only one in the world Canaan would feel truly saddened to know had died, and yet he was gone already. Just a few years after Canaan met him. Canaan is determined to attend his funeral.

On: The Name:

Canaan was just named "It" before she met the professor. I thought the professor sounded like a cool guy, I thought giving a name to someone who just helped him away from a bunch of Ghosts potentially saving his life was something he'd do. You know, people always ask for names of people who save their asses. The Professor seems like he'd be one to not only give a name, but give his last name in doing so because of what I can gleam of his personality and title- he's someone who likes names, and if he gives someone a name it seems like the last name would be his own as a kind of mark, something to help carry his name onward.
They also did travel for a while together as the Professor learned more about her and her situation all the while teaching Canaan about who and what she is.

So thats why Canaan is Canaan En Lorrimor.

History:

Canaan is a Changeling. She was born from a Hag mother who lured a male into mating with her before killing him off. That's what the Professor taught her anyway. Whoever the man was must have been truly dark and twisted to produce an offspring, even with a hag, so cursed as Canaan is.
Canaan was found on the doorstep of an abandoned house, apparently the Hag didn't know no one lived there and as a baby Canaan starved for sixteen hours before she was discovered.
Perhaps it was for the best, because the family initially took her unnaturally pale complexion as part of Malnutrition. Her eyes were sealed shut for her first few years of life, the family took all the more care of her for her blind condition.
But when she opened her eyes for the first time the family was in shock. She had no eyes but pitch black orbs. Shaken, the family realized it was still the little girl they've been taking care of, who they never bothered to name, calling her only It, But the tension was high. The family cracked one day when the daughter grew only more cursed. Finally at age eight, Canaan's friends long abandoned her and she found healing spells brought her great pain. She started to see and command ghosts dwelling in old haunting grounds, creating fires with waves of the hand.
The family went on a trip. a Picnic trip they said. But when they went high up into the mountains, they left her there. The husband tried to kill her, but when Canaan called out a specter came to her aid and the couple was driven off. Alone in the woods and finally abandoned by the last two people who ever tried to care for her, Canaan sunk into depression and could do nothing but wander lost in the woods.

Seven years later (Age Fifteen)
////
Accustomed to being alone, Canaan was on her own on the road towards a town where she hoped to disguise herself and find somewhere to eat and sleep for the night.
On the road is something of a mistake, she was not on the road but over the road walking along the rocky top of the plateau the road cut through. It was quiet, so Canaan easily heard a shout and went to investigate. She saw a man running around. For a few moments she wondered what he was doing before the ghosts came into the picture. He was being chased by ghosts. It would be very hard for most people to fight off a ghost when you couldn't even see them usually. Canaan slid down the rock face and exerted her will over one of them. Dark shadows enveloped the ghost until the monster succumbed, taking on a darker shade and its own eyes blackened out like Canaan 's own, marking it as hers, the ghost turned and attacked the others.
The man asked if Canaan could see them and she nodded. The man asked her to point them out for her and she did. Together, Kendra and the man, the ghosts were defeated. They were only minor ghosties but still a nice challenge.
He thanked her for the help, saying he was out of anything he could detect the spirits with. They started talking on the way to the town. When he asked Canaan 's name, she couldn't answer. She was only It.
"That wont do" He said. "Everyone needs to have a name, especially a skilled young woman like yourself".
And so he gave Canaan his own. Canaan En Lorrimor.
They continued traveling for a while yet before his work sent him away where Canaan could not go. They parted ways and Canaan never saw him again. In their time together, the Professor taught Canaan many things about what she was, what challenges she could face, but most importantly to stop being so depressed and accept what she is.
Four years have passed and Canaan received news of Lorrimor's death.
The only one who really felt like a parent, or a cool grandad, passed away. So soon. Canaan hoped to one day meet him again with many accomplishments to tell and stories to share. There could be no stories now. The professor was probably already in a good afterlife with whatever deity he prayed to. Somewhere Canaan could never follow.
Determined, Canaan ventures to be there at his Funeral.
