About Camus de Sable

Camus was born into a poor peasant family. Growing up, he dreamt of becoming a Knight, to bring honor to his family’s name. When he came of age, he applied for a position with his town's local guard, looking to work his way up via merit and eventually become a militia man in service of a lord . Unfortunately, the other guards knew of his poor upbringing, and he was passed over time and again for promotion despite his reliability in battle. As knighthood was his goal, the first few times he was passed over, he was able to maintain a calm and noble outlook, believing that his time would come. The only other guard who really bonded with was a girl named Kema, as a osirian who was sent to absalon by her parents, she lacked the snobism of absalonians. They relied on each other, she tought him how speak decently and in turn he tought he some of his fighting tricks. Even tough he had feelings for her, he just could not handle the strange atmosphere , so he just hid those feelings.
After a couple years, he was by far the most talented fighter of his rank within the guard, and probably more talented than the majority of his superiors. After being passed over for promotion a final time, his resolve was broken. He stormed out of the guard barracks and sought a place where he would be rewarded solely on the merits of his battle skills. Not even Kema's begging was enough, his had made up his mind.

This search led him directly into bodyguard work with an outfit from a few towns over. Beign a bodyguard suited him well, and with each successful mission, he earned more gold and more respect from his peers. Though deep down, he longed to still become a noble knight, his experiences led him to value pure merit and strength in battle above all else.

However everyone needs to earn a living, and in his youth he was fast, strong, or tough enough to fight for pay. There are good causes and bad causes, but at the end of the day, it all comes down to money. Sometimes he got easy jobs, like guarding merchant caravans (someting he was used to; other times the jobs are rough, like fighting in a rebel lord's private army. There was even one time when he was hired by pirates as extra muscle,a work he grew fond of, there he learned some abilities which were useful for him later.

However, Camus found out Osirion was a place where he could make good money while exposing himself to less dangers. Normally they take him as a guide to the ruins and he also take care of the many traps there are around. While the payment is good Camus has come to the realization work has lost its initial excitement. Having barely used his skills for quite some time, he longs for some action since he looks forward to perfect his fighting skills.

One fateful day he was illegally exploring a ruin with a client, he was aprehended by some guards. His surprise was great when he noticed one of the guards was Kema. She was also surprised but also very happy, that didnt stop her from throwing him on the jail for some days but Kema visited him daily. They had time to catch up and it looked like the spark was still there. Camus toyed with the idea of telling her his feeling until she mentioned she was engaged, with an aristocrat no less. Altought they are still friends, Camus feels its too painful to see her. He has resolved to make money as fast as possible, maybe one day he will be the respectable man Kema deserves.

In any case Camus is what is to be called a consumate profesional. He wont ask questions about his clients, nor will have moral dilemas about the things they may ask him to do. He is in only for glory and money, however due to his past he will value more the latter. He cant be brived because he values loyalty to his client above else, but he also expects his clients are trustworthy, he will make them pay if they break any point in his contract . While he has a dark sense of humor and an amoral view on life, he values good company but never seeks it (unless its Kema's), he believes his way of life is way to dangerous for anyone to live in it.
