Oh, I made the front page! That's me in the Taldor T-shirt, and in balti_1538.jpg in the white shirt. I'm afraid I didn't get the forum names of the guys with me.
I had really good time at the con, especially talking to the
Asmodeus Mirage Spoiler:
senile brass dragon!
Rob played him really well.
Can't wait for next year! I'm not sure if I'll be able to make Game '09, but I'll certainly try.
I'm sorry for the lateness all. My mother has had a stroke and I've been busy caring for her since she's come home from the hospital. I should have enough time to get up a post either tonight or tomorrow morning.
Again, I apologize for my lateness. =[
I'm sorry to hear that. No need to apologise, take all the time you need.
Growing up in the Garundi community of Solku, Jakari of the Three Fountains spent much of his childhood in fear of the frequent gnoll incursions, but found comfort in the tales of heroism and adventure told by his clan elders. Hoping to follow the example of the folk heroes he so admired, as soon as Jakari came of age he joined the militia to fight off the White Canyon gnolls.
During his time of service he saw many of his comrades and friends lose their lives in battle. This diminished his enthusiasm for war somewhat, but he became all the more determined to live up to his heroic ideals, even if the means by which he had hoped to achieve this were no longer to his taste.
Once the gnoll threat seemed broken two years ago, Jakari left the militia and retreated once more into the folktales that had inspired him in his youth. It was not long after this when a pair of Pathfinders, on their way to some newly unearthed ruin, made a stop in a tavern that Jarkari often frequented. Hearing them speak of their exploits, he couldn’t help but draw parallels with the deeds of his mythical idols, and found himself excited by the prospect of travelling the world as part of such a group.
Before the Pathfinders left on their way, he begged them to allow him to go with them. They were at first reluctant, but found it hard to say no to his enthusiasm and soon agreed to allow him to join them as a porter. The expedition proved straightforward, and Jakari proved himself competent enough that the pair offered to help him gain membership at the Grand Lodge in Absalom.
Having accepted their offer, Jakari now finds himself a full member of the Pathfinder Society and his first assignment brings him back close to home...
I’ve left it a bit open at the moment so making changes to incorporate some of the other characters will be easier.
Can someone run an eye over my character...just to make sure everything is in order
Looks like you’ve got the following skill ranks:
Climb 2
Intimidate 4
Jump 2
Ride 3
Swim 2
For a total of 13, this leaves you with 3 more to spend. Also, Iron Will gives a +2 bonus to Will saves, so you’ll have a final modifier of +1 rather than +0.
Otherwise everything looks about right. (Except the age entry saying she’s 19 and background saying she’s in her early 20s, but never mind…)
EDIT: Oh, and the Chelish speak Taldane too (or some butchered variation anyway). So you need another language.
Now, I'm all for a curry night, but I can't help but think it's a little... unwise, to have it on the Friday - surely it would be better on the Sunday so we aren't all sat in a room together the following morning.
While you squabble amongst yourselves we are finding ways to poke through your defences. Be weary of the stalker of the desert
Go on and stalk the desert while we harvest this overripe fruit in Amsodeus' name!
The fruit may be rotting, but that is a necessary step for the seeds of a new age of glory to take root!
It's typical of the young and naive Chelish to mistake a temporary wane in power for the apocalypse. It was after all, their gross overreaction to Aroden's death that allowed Asmodeus to sink his talons into that wayward colony in the first place.
I normally wait for the hard copy to arrive before reading anything beyond the contents page, but I'm not sure I'll be able to restrain myself this time.
The best thing about LE from an adventure/module standpoint is that in the majority of adventures, the LE character doesn't require any special motivation that the LG one wouldn't also use. LE doesn't equal 'friends with all other evil,' after all, and the Asmodeus worshipper is going to be every bit as motivated as a Paladin of Iomedae to smack down the forces of any evil that *isn't* Asmodeus (or even, in the case of Chelaxian internal intrigue, in the best interests of his or her own house and family!).
Running games for CE or NE characters, who might actively embrace all sorts of extra-curricular naughtiness and be all-too-willing to screw over their allies to accomplish goals, can be more problematic.
LE, less 'disruptive psycho-killer nutjob' and more Dr. Doom, perfectly willing to ally with the Fantastic Four, if it means saving the planet from Galactus.
Just swap out 'Fantastic Four' with 'Andoran freedom fighters' and 'Galactus' with 'apocalyptic Rovagug cults.'
If you are trying to say that its ok to adventure with LE characters because they won't act evil part of the time.... I can't see how that works. What would your LE character do in a mod where he or she doesn't gain anything, and other evil factions don't lose? In other words, if the LE character stands to gain nothing, and all that's done is benefit the greater good by helping others, I think he's going to have a bit of a problem - especially if those who benefit are the GOOD opponents of his deity.
You're talking about a very limited, one time situation where evil allies with good because they don't feel like getting crushed, that's different. I just can't see that as justification for including evil characters in an organized play situation on a regular basis.
I'd like to see the idea of including Cheliax as a faction reconsidered, or making the Cheliax faction good rebels against the leadership of the country.
I'm not sure if you've read the guidelines for the adventure submissions, but it makes it pretty clear that the Pathfinder Society is not an altruistic organisation. There shouldn't be any adventures where the only motivation is 'The Greater Good', so selfish characters are quite feasible (though perhaps a little annoying for the rest of the party).
I included small additional blurbs on the colleges and the Princess. It's not a lot, but there's certainly some interesting plot hooks buried in there. :-)
Personally, I'm hoping we get some more information about Princess Eutropia... sure, I've only read two sentences about her, but I can already tell she's got potential!
