The commands are ExportKeybinds and ImportKeybinds.

ExportKeybinds takes an optional path. If you don't supply one, your keybinds will go into the Keybinds folder in your installed PFO (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Pathfinder Online\Pathfinder_Data\Keybinds). If you do supply a path ("ExportKeybinds C:/go/here/please/arglebargle.ini"), then it'll put your keybinds there.

Let's assume you just typed "/ExportKeybinds", cuz calling your keybinds arglebargle is weird.

You now have a file called "player_settings.ini". It is in your Pathfinder Online\Pathfinder_Data\Keybinds directory with 2 other files: default.player_settings.ini and default-dvorak.player_settings.ini.

Open up your player_settings.ini lovingly with you most prized text editor.

Gaze in wonder at your keybinds.

You may now edit your keybinds. Notice how they have been laid out in a format thusly:

key = command

I have tried to be very understanding in what is an acceptable name for a key. Generally just typing the key works. If you want to use the keypad keys, you have to say so. "1" is the key above Q and Tab. "alpha1" is that same key. "keypad1" is way over on the far side of the keyboard.

So, if you wanted ESDF for movement instead of WASD, you would take this:

w = forward
s = back
a = turnleft
d = turnright
q = strafeleft
e = straferight

And turn it into this:

e = forward
d = back
s = turnleft
f = turnright
w = strafeleft
r = straferight

And then, when you have finished editing your keybinds, save your file and thank your beloved text editor for the fine job it did.

Journey forthwith back to PFO, and type this into your chat input:

/ImportKeybinds

(Note: If you were weird and put your keybinds somewhere else, you can "/ImportKeybinds C:/somewhere/else/player_settings.ini". Ultimately, we may never get the mob AI to the point where it's at all mistakable for a player (and we don't WANT all AI to be an uber-hard PvP-style battle), but the hope is to get it to behave somewhat similarly. For example, if a player wouldn't drop everything she was doing to pound on the fighter while he's being healed, a mob shouldn't either; the mob should try to take out the healer. We don't want you to have to use fundamentally different tactics and builds to engage in PvE vs. PvP; PvE may wind up much easier than PvP, but at least you're learning the right kinds of lessons.

So what are those tactics?

With the core four roles, the intention is something like this:

The Fighters hit the front lines and try to tie up as many targets as possible with CC and body blocking. They hit hard enough that you can't just ignore them (and they hit even harder if you're provoking Opportunity trying to ignore them).

The Clerics are behind the Fighters. They're tough, but not as tough as the Fighters, so they can take hits, and they're a little more mobile than the Fighters. They try to intercept anyone rushing past the Fighters to get to the squishier characters and slow them down long enough for the squishies to reposition. When they're not catching strays, they heal and buff, or lob focus attacks at the other team's midline.

The Wizards are in the back, making a terrible nuisance of themselves with CC, debuffs, and direct damage. The enemy would love to paste them, but they're fast and their team is running interference for them so they can hit and then move (possibly running far enough back that the enemy wastes a lot of time trying to chase them down while the other allies are doing damage).

The Rogues are hitting any enemy that's focused on someone else, and then fading back and running when they capture someone's attention. They do the best DPS in the game against a target that they can sneak attack, but possibly the worst in a stand up fight (different sneak attack types change this slightly), and they have the greatest access to evades to instantly get out of range.

• The AI is, in fact, dead simple right now so isn't accomplishing any of that at all.

Caldeathe Baequiannia's comments:
Designer tactical advice

Yep, to second Tork, the goal with creature AI* is that it doesn't teach you wrong for PvP. They get colored chevrons on top and bottom with a size based on how big your current stack of buffs and debuffs are. I think from left to right they're Attack, Defense, Resistance, Speed. Slowed is a Reflex defense and Speed penalty, so you'll probably get similar stacks on either side of your health bar when you're being Slowed. (The color on the chevrons indicates which of three channels the debuff is on, which will make more of a difference once effects are in to clear debuffs from different channels).

Meanwhile, the colored question marks that appear in the curve of your health bar indicate states. There should be six of them in total, but you'll only see the ones you have on you at the moment, and you can mouse over them to see what state they are (frequently Opportunity, Distressed, or Unbalanced). They're scheduled to be tweaked to be easier to notice, as they're your clue that you can use an attack with a conditional effect (on top of that attack lighting up in your bar).

All of them should get actual images instead of question marks hopefully soon.

As I noted somewhere else, creatures tend to ignore crowd control because their AI hasn't been taught about it. They may be affected by Slowed (and it should at least make them easier to hit). Players can suffer Knockdown, but I don't think the animation on it is really working (so it basically just freezes you for the duration). I'm not sure whether Interrupt works on creatures, but it should work on players. None of the other crowd controls (like Immobilize) are working yet, but should be pretty soon.

Slowed is meant to cap at 50% and multiply your armor speed penalty (not add to it) so even a heavy armor wearer would move at 33% of normal speed at worst, but I think it's currently uncapped and stacking additively to your armor penalty, so it's really easy to slow a heavy armor wearer to zero or almost zero speed.

Caldeathe Baequiannia's comments:
Status Indicators

The little question marks that appear to the left and right of your health bar are buff/debuff indicators.
Holy Lance has a six second cooldown (largely because it does Holy damage, which almost nothing will have any significant resistance against). If you want to play a ranged cleric, I believe the elemental orisons Fire Bolt, Icicle, and Lightning Arc should be available for you to train currently (once you start leveling them up, you'll eventually want to use an Elemental focus instead of the Battle focus you start with, but they're pretty identical at +0).

Mike wants it to be clear that the lag from changing hexes is probably actually from crossing tile boundaries (i.e., a set of several hexes that load their art at the same time). Unfortunately, it's hard to tell when you're switching tiles, so it feels like a hex border issue. We're working on getting better loading for those.

We plan to have you auto-target your attacker if you have nobody else targeted. But it may be a while before that gets in. We're talking about some solutions for the short term to make it easier to notice when you're getting jumped.

Indications that you have Aggressor and Attacker appear over the minimap on the right as small circular icons.

There may, indeed, be a bunch of weapons that you can get that don't have models yet and may be invisible. (I suspect that the presents I snuck around and gave out didn't have models and I felt bad about that on realizing :) ).

Yeah, party UI and functionality is a flaky in the current build. I think we fixed a lot of that for the next build.

•Lee mentioned 400m hexes. It was 680m previously. Maybe a mistake? Or a change?
•XP we get is 1000 xp + 100 xp/hour. Consistent with what we knew. Starting xp has been hinted at, but this gives us an idea of the amount.
•40 hp gained per skill in a hp skill (sorry I forgot to note the name of the skill). With 400 hp to start and 20 levels in the skill, that gives 400+20•40=1200. Doesn't include buffs or other bonuses.
•The minimum attribute score needed for level 8 skills (note: level 8 is when you start getting T2) is 14.
•The crafting queue sounds like EVE's skill queue, ie. whatever you can queue up that starts in 24 hr.
•If two escalations meet up, the stronger one beats the weaker one. Not sure if this is automatic or not. It also sounded like if a new escalation hex is being 'fed' by multiple nearby similar escalations it grows faster? Perhaps I'm misinterpreting.
•Flanking isn't in. Rather we have sneak attack as was mentioned in blogs where you get the bonus if your target isn't targeting you (and you have sneak attack).
•The numbers Stephen mentioned for spell damage indicate to me that base damage is the same across all weapons.
•Bow wielding clerics are now the hot build.

Caldeathe Baequiannia's comments:
Calculations of effects

A few notes I took during Lee's broadcast:

•Penalties to reflex for medium and heavy armor appear unchanged since they were first introduced. -10 for medium and -20 for heavy.
•Defenses (ref,fort,will) appear to already include the 50 per defensive tier.
•HP start at 400 as originally stated.
•Physical resistances (no keywords): 0 for cloth, 7 for light, 17 for medium, 27 for heavy. These are slightly changed (as Stephen said would happen). It's too early in the alpha to see how they scale with keywords (this was mentioned as changing as well).
•Other resistances appear uniform (though I expect crafting + enchanting will change this based on comments by Stephen). 2 for cloth, 0 for light, 0 for medium, 7 for heavy are the base values. No info yet on scaling.
•Damage factors have a wide range. I'll be comparing those later.
•Base damage isn't shown, so I can't tell if all weapons have the same base damage or not. The alpha instructions pdf indicates that scaling with keywords is unchanged (5/minor, 20/major).
•Recovery stat wasn't shown. Gol Morbis trained this at one point. Outlined here.
•Crit rating, crit resistance also not shown?
•Stamina appears to have changed quite a bit. What's the relevance of the small bar on the top now? It used to be related to stamina, but now I'm confused as to its purpose with the way that stamina has changed.

Caldeathe Baequiannia's comments:
Calculations of effects

Not actually in the alpha, but noticed a few things about stats from watching others:

•tooltips of the various attacks. Maybe adding screenshots of these to the albums people are compiling?
•changes to the tooltips with new weapons (I think Nihimon may have noticed something along these lines with a damage factor changing?).
•checking your stats before and after each time you train and noting what changes, ie. the experimental way to train.
•full hits. You may notice your attacks do a range of damage. It's possible to determine a lot of information based on the distribution of that damage, but for now it's simpler to just keep track of the largest damage you do (a "full hit") with a given attack. Be aware that enemy resistances will affect this number, so better info would be what the max damage is against a given creature. Even better: max damage against another PC with known stats. With that pvp info it's possible to determine if and how base damage differs between weapons.
•(edit) full hits done to you by creatures.

Non-stacking effects with the same name overwrite each other completely, keeping the longest duration. So spamming a timed debuff or buff isn't a great use of your time; add it once, do something else, then add it again when the duration ends.

Stacking effects always add to each other, and fall off at a rate based on the target's Recovery per round. It's almost always good to add more of those until they cap out.

DoTs do not currently scale with max HP, but that's pretty high on my list of programming priorities so may start working before the end of Alpha. Right now, they should be doing damage equal to the stacks per round (so if you have 20 Bleeding, you take 20 damage at the end of the round). Eventually, they should do .1% of max HP per instance, so a max 100 stack will do 10% of the target's max HP per round. (So for a target with exactly 1000 HP, DoTs should currently work correctly :) ).

Caldeathe Baequiannia's comments:
Stacking and Channel effects

Effects on the same channel don't combine values, only the highest is counted. Majors count as four minors for most purposes, so there's a possibility of up to 12 minor keywords' worth of bonus.

The keyword effect on armor feats scales based on that. If you had all keywords matched on a maxed armor feat with maxed T3 armor, you would have 12x the listed bonuses.

Expendables have up to nine keywords, all of equal value, rather than 12 points of value. Therefore, they are each a little better than the effects of a weapon's minor keyword. Each expendable keyword adds 7 damage (instead of 5), and 4/3 (rounded down) of a point for Effect Power (aka Utility Value). So a spell with two keywords matched does 54 base damage and 2 Effect Power, while a spell with three keywords matched does 61 base damage and 4 Effect Power.

Keywords on your role feature/expendables don't have anything to do with keywords on your attacks/weapons or armor feat/worn armor. Sometimes they'll have the same name, and we are worried that that's confusing. We're looking into ways to alleviate that, but there are also cases where, say, your weapon and armor are both Adamantine and it would be weird to change the name of one of those keywords to make it clear they're not used for the same things.

So if your Weapon Specialization is Piercing, that will improve any Trophy Charm attacks that use the Piercing keyword, but doesn't matter for your weapon attacks. Similarly, if you have a weapon attack that looks for Piercing, it wants you to have a weapon that's also Piercing, but it doesn't matter what your role feature or expendables are looking for.

You can only slot one Specialization (just like you can only slot one Sneak Attack, School, or Domain). There are higher level "combo" specializations that cover all weapons of a larger class like two-handed or all ranged. And I'm just waiting on tech for the Fighter Utility called Versatility that lets you temporarily treat any weapon as if it was covered by your Specialization. (Though it's way low on the priority list, so it may be a while before that Utility is available.)

Caldeathe Baequiannia's comments:
How keywords on weapons work

For armor and weapon keywords, there are four possible minors and two possible majors.
EVE

In EVE, you have a queue of skills your character will train. If the time required to train one of those skills exceeds 24 hours, you can queue it up but you can't queue anything after that long training time.

So you could pay for a monthly EVE sub, and manage your skill queue, training skills and doing nothing else. (You can buy a PLEX, and sell it on the in-game market for ISK, use that ISK to buy the necessary skill books to unlock new skills to train, all without leaving the busiest market hub in the game). You could, given unlimited time and unlimited PLEX, train every skill in the game to the maximum level.

Skills are prerequisites for using various ship hulls and ship modules. They also have effects on your character's abilities.

So technically you could sit in that market hub paying for monthly subscription time and buying skill books with PLEX and train all the skills you need to fly the largest ship in the game fully equipped with the most powerful modules in the game, and provided you could get to a place where you can fly that ship, and that someone would transfer ownership of one to you, with the modules included, you could board it, and take command, never having flown a single mission on any other ship or used any ship equipment ever in the history of your character.

The limiting factor is 100% realtime, plus your willingness to buy ISK rather than earn it, and your social connections to get access to hulls and modules not regularly sold on the markets. Zero impact from your actual in-game activities.

Pathfinder Online

In Pathfinder Online, you gain XP in realtime which goes into a bank. You can log in and find a skill trainer to exchange banked XP for skills. You could, if you wished, pay for a monthly subscription for a long period of time and never log in, then, when you decide you are ready, log in and start buying training.

You will discover however that even though you might have a huge amount of XP banked, you cannot buy all the training you want. After the first couple of ranks of a particular Feat are trained, you start to run into prerequisites.

Some of those prerequisites are ability score increases, which also come from purchasing training. But you will find that you can't purchase enough of those kinds of Feats without running into other prerequisites. Those are related to earning Achievements.

Achievements reflect things that your character has actually done in game. Some of them are easy to get - a couple of hours of generic adventuring will provide quite a few of them. So you do that, then you go back to the trainers and you can spend more of your XP and get some more Feats. You repeat that cycle, but you start to notice that the time required to get the next set of Achievements you need to unlock the next round of Feats to train are becoming increasingly time consuming to earn.

Eventually you reach a point where the time required to get the next batch of Achievements has become pretty substantial. You've reached the point in the game where you are gated more by what you are able to do while you play than by how much XP your character is earning.

So if you paid for a long period of subscription time, and gained a huge bank of XP, you would not be able to replicate the experience of the pilot in EVE - you can't just train your character and never interact with the world.

The character who starts playing on day one and actually plays the game - going out into the world and doing things related to the kind of abilities that the player wants that character to have - will have a substantial advantage over the character who is created on day one but that is never used and is just a reservoir holding XP.

(This is one big reason I say that Destiny's Twin is cool, but it's not as good as a "second character". Because you have to choose to either do things to earn Achievements with the Main, or with the Twin, but you can't do both at the same time. So you'll have to decide how you want to allocate your game time "doing things in the game" and you can't treat the Twin as just a convenient alter-ego of your Main.)

Why this is good design

The realtime training system pioneered by EVE solves a number of design problems. The biggest problem that it solves is that it allows us to control, absolutely, how quickly a character can unlock certain character abilities. In games where your character gets better simply as a function of your play, things like DPS and XPS are proxies for realtime training. But they're not great proxies because so many different people play the game at different rates and you are forced to make design choices between optimizing for the people at the very top of the power curve who are playing an absolutely min/maxed character in a mathematically optimal way, or for the 99% of the rest of the players who are doing something less "perfect" from a gaming perspective - starting at slightly less perfect and going down to "barely doing anything right".

The MMO community has shown time and again that it is capable of finding ways to level up characters faster than the designers "thought they could". The result is that game systems which were deployed in a half-finished state get pounded by rapidly advancing characters and the blowback is that the content is boring and grindy. (Or worse, doesn't exist at all, and characters run out of things to do and players therefore exit the game).

With realtime training we, the designers, control when you will be gated in to various content and nothing you, the players, can do can speed that process up. So you can be as efficient as you want, min/max to your hearts' content, play 24 hours a day without any sleep, and you won't be able to get ahead of our plan to deploy content.

We can then tune other parts of the design to be more interesting to the vast middle majority of the players rather than having to tune to the most efficient players. The Achievement system allows us to provide you interesting things to do but we don't have to ask you to do them 24x7x365. So if you don't play that aggressively you will find that in general you're able to "keep up" with those who do (there's an economic risk because those 24x7 players will generate more economic activity than the people who don't but we think we can manage that on the backend.)

Caldeathe Baequiannia's comments:
How spending XP works (And EVE vs Pathfinder Online)

Here's the difference between EVE and Pathfinder Online.

There is also the current idea of a racial weapon proficiency that, as mentioned, might be less straightforward to deal with. Current thought is that we may just make you pay the (small amount of) XP per regular proficiency if you've got any attacks through your racial proficiency before you race change. They're really not meant as long-term proficiencies anyway, but instead are a way for players to more quickly pursue certain attacks that fit in with their racial sensibilities.

Caldeathe Baequiannia's comments:
Racial bonuses

As currently set up:

Bumping this as we begin to get an influx of new players today.

One final note: advancing feats requires achievement points. You earn these by doing various things in game. Here is a rough guide (I'm sure others are elsewhere):

Martial/Divine/Arcane/Subterfuge: Killing things with the appropriate weapons

Subterfuge/Divine: Working on certain escalation quests

Adventure: Killing PvE baddies like goblins, wolves, bandits, etc. Each has their own Achievement branch

Adventure: Harvesting from nodes

Crafting: Refining and Crafting things

Achievement points are cumulative with previous levels of an achievement and with other achievements of the same type. For example:

If you go kill 10 goblins with your club, you will have 1 Adventure point (10 Goblins) and 1 Martial point (10 "Hammer" kills).

Say you then go 10 wolves with your club. Now you have 2 Adventure points and 3 Martial points: 1 Adventure for 10 Goblins + 1 Adventure for 10 Wolves; 1 Martial for 10 Hammer kills + 2 Martial for 20 Hammer Kills.

You find a longsword and decide to use it! You go kill 10 bandits. You now have 3 Adventure points and 4 Martial points. 1 Adventure for 10 Goblins + 1 Adventure for 10 Wolves + 1 Adventure for 10 Bandits; 1 Martial for 10 Hammer kills + 2 Martial for 20 Hammer Kills + 1 Martial for 10 Heavyblade Kills

Caldeathe Baequiannia's comments:
About Adventure Points

Thanks everyone.
