Background:

Bullpup Rustycap is a young gully dwarf. I will narrate the story for him since it would be very confusing to try to let him tell it.

Bullpup came from a large gully dwarf family. There were 6 of them all together. Highbulp Darpa was a genius and leader of the clan. He and his wife, high Priestess Floump, had 4 kids, two girls and two boys. The girls were fleadorp and fliziboop and the boys were catssup and bullpup. All of the kids could count to 3 except Bullpup. Highblup Darpa decided to give the kids a test that would weed out his non genius children, mainly Bullpup who was making him look bad. He marched the kids down out to a tiny valley called the Adventurers' End. We stayed in a cave on north side of the valley. The next morning we all walked down to the bottom of the valley. He then told the kids that they had to make it back to the cave and they would get a prize. If we did not make it back then as he put it, "better luck next time". Bullpup took off running and climbed the South side of the valley until he found a cave and stayed in it. The rest of the kids turned to the Highblup and waited for him to go back up to the cave they stayed at the night before.

Bullpup stayed around the cave for 2 days, before deciding that the prize must be out hiding somewhere. He then started to wander and found an adventuring kit just left on the ground. He looked around and did not see anyone so he took it. The pack also had a set of thieves tools in it. A little while later he was resting on a rock when a Lizard came out to sun itself. Bullpup started talking to footie, the lizard, and made a harness out of some string that he had found in the pack. He was able to put the harness on footie and then to make sure that he did not run away tied the 6 foot leash he had made to the backpack. footie has followed him around ever since. It took Bullpup weeks to get back to a town and while wondering was able to find some daggers and a bow. He also found a quiver of arrows. Bullpup gets in trouble a lot since he just wanders around looking at things. The only thing he remembers that his father always said was that the "dark furry naked tail", is an official enemy of the highbulp and must be dealt with immediately. Bringing tails back will get you rewards. Bullpup currently has 11 tails. The problem is that he hunts them thru the market, restaurants, apothecaries, and homes. None of this bothers him though for longer than a few minutes.

While in the city one day Bullpup was chasing a rat that ended up running into a backsmith shop. Bullpup killed the rat and when he turned from the corner saw a huge man standing before him. The man looked annoyed, frustrated, and rushed. What Bullpup did not realize was that the smith was working by himself and a particularly difficult piece and had to constant stoke the flames using the bellows to keep the metal at the right temperature. He took a quick look at Bullpup, pointed to the bellows and said in a commanding tone. Squeeze them together and pull them apart. Bullpup confused walked over to the bellows and did what he was asked. The smith repeated the chant a few times and then started lowering his voice as an expression of awe washed over Bullpup. Each time he squeezed the bellows the flames lept up and the heat increased. As he pulled the bellows apart the flames would lessen and the heat would drop. Bullpup lost himself in the rythm of the bellows and it was not until the smith laid a hand on his shoulder that Bullpup realized that the smith was even there. The smith said come back tomorrow, gave Bullpup some food and pushed him out of the shop. Bullpup came back the next day and everyday for a few weeks. The smith tried to show Bullpup other things around the forge but Bullpup's interest was always brought back to the bellows. While Bullpup could not keep the names of the tools right he could keep the forge at whatever temperature the smith wanted. The smith began to realize that Bullpup would never make a good apprentice, but he was a great assistant as long as he was not talking. In order to stop Bullpup from talking all the smith had to do was point at the bellows. One the last day that Bullpup remembered to go to the Smithy, the blacksmith asked for a set of bending forks and was amazed that Bullpup actually brought him the right tool on the first try.

The next day while hunting for dark furry naked tails, bullpup wandered around a corner and walked right into a Giant Scorpion. As the scorpion turned to him he reached into his pocket and pulled out a dark furry naked tail, tail removed of course, and threw it at the scorpion thinking to scare it away. It caught the "rat" in mid air and ate it. Bullpup was thrilled that it could catch things out of the air and threw another "rat". He continued throwing rats and laughing at the scorpion until he noticed someone watching him off to the side. He then took a "rat" and threw it at him instead. The scorpion turned and waited expectantly for this other person to toss it the "rat".
He picked up the rat and fed it to the scorpion with his hand. Bullpup immediately went to him and asked for a ride. The stranger didn't say no but did not say when so bullpup decided to hang out with him so he could ride the scorpion. Bullpup caught the name of Aelus, but did not pay much further attention to the owner of the scorpion since in bullpups mind Aelus is going to let him ride the scorpion.
