Hi ye mighty boards,

I have a question about a situation that is very likely to come up in my next game session, and I apologize if it has been asked a gazzillion times before.

Let us imagine a group of adventurers with invisibility spells running while infiltrating an enemy stronghold.

As per the spell, they get +20 to Stealth (or +40 if not moving), but the spell also says it doesn't silence them in any way.

How would that affect a sentry's chances of detecting them sneaking by on the other side of a door, or otherwise out of sight? My reading is, that since there's no visual detecting possible, invisibility does not benefit the party (though the door does give a good bonus).

How about if they try to sneak up on a sleeping guard and coup de grace him? He's also not using his eyes, as he is sleeping (and already taking a -10 penalty on Perception checks). My reading here is, that invisibility also doesn't provide any bonus to the party.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi

Once upon a time, around the release of 3.0, there was a scenario in Dungeon Magazine that I'm trying to find.

The adventure had the players enter some goblin caves to find a sword, I think, only to have an earthquake hit the region just as the players were to make their way out...

If anyone can point me to the name of the scenario and/or the issue of Dungeon, I would be a happy camper...

I've long toyed with an idea for a Pathfinder campaign.

The essential idea is that a game similar to Blood Bowl exists, e.g. American Football with a lot of beating your opponents to a pulp.

The PCs will be part of a team of "BB"-players, traveling around from match to match, having encounters both on and off the field.

Ideally about 50% of the "combat" encounters will be matches, while the rest will be a variety of bar brawls, being ambushed by fans of opposing teams, etc.

But I'm a bit stuck on some rules.

Tackling is Trip or Grapple.

Taking the ball from an opponent is Disarm and/or Steal.

Throwing is probably just a ranged attack, but what about catching said ball?

All ideas are welcome...

Hi,

A Question arose in our CC game tonight, where the Cleric used Deathwatch while encountering an invisible undead.

Deathwatch states:

"Using the powers of necromancy, you can determine the condition of creatures near death within the spell's range. You instantly know whether each creature within the area is dead, fragile (alive and wounded, with 3 or fewer hit points left), fighting off death (alive with 4 or more hit points), healthy, undead, or neither alive nor dead (such as a construct). Deathwatch sees through any spell or ability that allows creatures to feign death."

It doesn't say that you must be able to actually "see" the creatures, thus suggesting that you would know where the invisible undead creature was and therefore at least know which square to attack (with a 50% miss chance).

Is that a reasonable reading? Or how would they interact?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but my google-fu is weak.

Spellcombat allows the magus to use his offhand to cast and apply touch spells as if he had two weapon fighting. Some spells such as chill touch and frostbite allows a number of touches up to the magus' caster level before they are fully discharged.

When using such spells can the magus keeping delivering these charges with his offhand in subsequent rounds as though he had two weapon fighting (-2 on all attacks) even though he is no longer actively casting or will he take a -4 penalty on main hand attacks and -8 on off hand attacks if attempting this?

Example:
Amare is a 2nd level magus engaged in combat with a gnoll, using spellcombat he slashes at the gnoll with his scimitar with a -2 penalty to hit, and (for arguments sake successfully) casts frostbite and deliver the touch attack with a -2 penalty.
Assuming he hasn't been cloven in half by the gnoll next round he still has one more touch with his frostbite spell before it's discharged. If he where to slash at the gnoll with his scimitar and deliver the remaing charge of the frostbite in the same round would the penalties be -2 on the scimitar slash and -2 on the touch attack or -4 on the scimitar slash and -8 on the touch attack?

Hi

I'll be visiting Stockholm, Sweden the next couple of days and want to purchase a few gaming gifts. Can you provide me with names and/or addresses of Pathfinder retailers in Stockholm, Sweden?

Sincerely,
Bruno

Dear Paizonians,

I have a situation in my Shackled City campaign, where a player has contracted lycanthropy (from a wererat) without knowing it.

I've researched the possible cures I could find, but none of them seems to work, as several days have passed (at least three, possibly upwards to a week, but don't have my campaign log at hand at the moment).

Belladonna, ingested within 1 hour, allows another save.

Alternatively, Heal or Remove Disease (cast by 12th level caster) will cure it, if cast within three days (which most likely is up).

Have I missed any cures, short of Miracle/Wish?

Thanks,
Bruno

Sorry if this has been discussed before. Did a brief search but didn't find anything.

Normally, as I understand it, you have to pay the cost of any material components of a spell, when you scribe it into a scroll.

What happens, if I want to scribe a scroll of Restoration, where the component cost either 100 gp or 1000 gp, depending on which use I want? Do I have to scribe it as either one, and if I scribe it as 100 gp, it only works for non-permanent levels, etc.?

Thanks,
Bruno

The title more or less says it all, but for details, my halfling, mounted on a riding dog, charged a beast wielding his longsword. Can the dog make a bite along with the halfling's sword attack?

Hi,

The following may contain spoilers. Consider yourself warned.

I'm running the Shackled City campaign (updated for PF) for a group of fairly new players. One of them is playing a Witch (Deception Patron) who's expressed an interest in getting to use that side of her abilities a little more. She's taken the Disguise Hex as one of her two hexes.

They are currently 2nd level and about done with Jzadirune (3-4 rooms left). As is, there's not a lot of options for using deception/subterfuge. I guess she could disguise as a hobgoblin once they get to Malachite Hold, but except for that, what is there in the first (and second) chapter?

They have recently met the two half-elves (Fario and Fellian), being rescued after a hard fight against the grell. The two claimed to be looking for a disappeared friend of theirs, but have returned to Cauldron above. Any suggestions for the use of deception to figure out what the Striders are up to? Should the PCs even become more involved with the Striders at this point?

Any advice/suggestions are highly welcome.

Is it possible for my cavalier with Ride-by attack and a riding dog with Spring attack to utilize both on one attack, i.e. the cavalier makes a charge attack with ride-by attack, while the dog moves, bites and continues moving?

My gut reaction is no, since combining spring attack and charges is normally not allowed.

I'm aware this is somewhat unrelated to the actual play-test, but how will the other classes react to the introduction of fire-arms, from a mechanical point of view.

Example: Sniper archetype for the Rogue class gets an ability that allows the character to half the penalty for range with bows and crossbows. Will this be updated to include firearms (the idea of a musket wielding sniper intrigues me and is not entirely unreasonable, IMO).

Example: Can a wizard pick a firearm as his bonded item? What happens if it explodes? (and will it be less likely to do so, considering it has magical energies running through it?)

There's been many threads on GMs with problematic players. Possibly also many on this, but it is late (in my part of the world) and I couldn't be bothered searching for this (sorry :)).

I've played various forms of RPGs for...20 years or so...I'm not saying this to seem all wise and venerable (I'm not), just to say that I've seen my share of problematic players before.

But currently, I'm a player in a campaign (Second Darkness). The GM is a novice, which means the game is not exactly running smoothly, but I can bear with that...everything has a first. We are currently at level 4 (just started on Chapter 2), and I missed the last session, so not sure exactly what went on, but I was a bit surprised today, when I found out, the monk was running around in a Monk's Robe (13000 gp) and possibly had a few other items as well, while the party's rogue was slightly more modest, having "only" lesser bracers of archery, slippers of spider climbing, a handy haversack, +1 armor, not one but two +1 weapons and a few other items. I don't know what the party's sorcerer is lugging around, as he wasn't there, but I guess I've made my point...too much wealth. My own character (archer-based bard) is more or less spot on the WBL (6200 gp in total), spread over +1 armor, MW bow, MW melee weapon, efficient quiver, a few scrolls, three wands (one was paid for by "party treasure") and a couple of potions.

Now, to add spot to injury, the player of the monk has a tendency to "take up" a good amount of space in-game...he always makes "efficient" characters (I won't use the B-word, but it is borderline), has a problem (at least in my opinion) with social rules, is a cheater (or the luckiest man alive) and the boyfriend of the GM.

Basically, these things combined are sucking all my fun out of playing in the game. Should I try to do something to "save" it, or just abandon ship (like one other player already did)?

Thanks for listening*...

*or reading, as the case may be...

I'm a little mystified about this feat. Is there any reasons to take it instead of, say, Skill Focus: Perception?

Effectively it gives you +2 to one skill...seems a little underwhelming for a feat, to be honest.

Hi

I've got a couple of questions regarding the Shadow Evocation spell and saves.

1) From the spell description, I take it that a creature takes full damage, unless it makes a Will save to disbelief the spell, in which case it only takes 20% damage as real damage.

Is that correct?

2) If that is correct, what happens if the creature is hit by a second Shadow Evocation, after having failed the first save? I assume a new Will save to disbelief. If that is successful, is it only the new casting that is reduced to 20% damage, or does the damage from the previous casting suddenly get changed?

Thanks

Hi

A player in a campaign I'm also in asked the DM tonight if he could not choose his 1st level feat at first level, but take it at second level, where he had the requirements for it. (Weapon Focus, he doesn't have BAB +1)

Now, I think I know how it is meant to be, namely that you have to have the prerequisites when you gain the feat, but he's the type that argues that if it isn't in the rules, his understanding is as valid. I couldn't find it anywhere, but hopefully someone could help with an answer.

Hi guys. I have a player who wants her female cleric to be a bit of an alcoholic. Now, I could just make it a background thing that didn't impact on her stats, but I'd like to at least consider some mechanics for it.

Does anyone have some suggestions for handling being drunk and having an addiction that is not always fed?

Thanks

Hi

I "built" a character last night, and I'd like opinions.

His level 20 stats, feats, etc. Haven't bought magic gear for him or anything.

Human fighter/rogue 5/15
Str 13
Dex 24 (bought 17 + 2 human + 5 stat increases)
Con 12
Int 10
Wis 12
Cha 10

Feats:
H: Point Blank Shot
1: Weapon Finesse
2: Quick Draw (Fighter bonus)
3: Two-weapon Fighting
3: Weapon Focus (Dagger) (Rogue Talent - Weapon Training)
4: Rapid Shot (Fighter bonus)
5: Precise Shot
6: Weapon Specialization (Dagger) (Fighter bonus)
7: Far Shot
9: Arcane Strike
11: Deadly Aim
11: Power Attack (Rogue Talent - Combat Trick)
13: Improved Critical (Dagger)
15: Dazzling Display
15: Shatter Defenses (Rogue Talent - Feat)
17: Critical Focus
19: Bleeding Critical

Class Features:
1: Sneak Attack (1 die at 1st, one extra at 8th, 10th, 12th, 14th, 16th, 18th, 20th for a total of 8d6 at 20th)
1: Trapfinding
3: Evasion
4: Bravery
5: Armor Training
7: Weapon Training
8: Trap Sense +1
9: Uncanny Dodge
11: Trap Sense +2
13: Improved Uncanny Dodge
14: Trap Sense +3
15: Advanced Talents
17: Trap Sense +4
20: Trap Sense +5

Rogue Talents:
3: Weapon Training
9: Minor Magic (probably Mage Hand)
11: Combat Trick
13: Bleeding Attack
15: Feat
17: Opportunitist
19: Crippling Strike

His combat routine, at level 20, not including bonuses from gear or spells, look like (not including Point Blank, as not all his attacks will get that bonus):

Dagger +16 to hit 1d4+18
Dagger +16 to hit 1d4+18 (must be ranged)
Dagger +16 to hit 1d4+17* (off-hand)
Dagger +11 to hit 1d4+18
Dagger +6 to hit 1d4+18
Dagger +1 to hit 1d4+18

These attacks assume he is using both TWF, Rapid Shot, Deadly Aim and Power Attack in the same round. His off-hand attack, of melee will only be +12 damage instead of +17.

Any thoughts on this knife fighter?

I'm sure this has been covered in another thread, but my search-fu is weak.

In the Core book under CMB, it reads:

"Combat maneuvers are attack rolls, so you must roll for concealment and take any other penalties that would normally apply to an attack roll."

What are these "other penalties"?

Non-proficiency with weapon?
Penalty for two-weapon/multi-attacking?
Others?

Thanks,
Bruno

Ok, this may sound like whining or ranting, and perhaps it is...but...

Was playing a one-shot tonight, level 8, party including a fighter/rogue (swashbuckler type), bard/rogue (also kinda swashbuckler type), cleric/rogue and a druid.

We were in a fight with a pirate captain and a couple of her mates, when the druid wildshaped into a giant squid (in the water) and soloed the encounter (around EL 8-9)...in one round.

Next fight, we were fighting some guards and their captain...also EL 8-9...druid wildshaped into a dire tiger and soloed encounter...in two rounds.

Now, the player of the druid was having ok fun, but the rest of us were...mildly bored to put it mildly...

Anyone else experienced something like this? What solution would you suggest?

Thanks for your time...

Ok, I've talked with one of my players about this, and we agree that crafting doesn't make any sense.

To illustrate the situation, here's an example:

A craftsman with a total of +20 in Craft (Armor) wants to make a suit of full plate armor.

According to the rules, every week, he rolls a Craft check (DC 10+ armor bonus) and multiplies the skill check by the DC to get the progress in SP.

A suit of full plate costs 1500 gp or 15000 sp. If we assume he is taking 10 and he adds +10 to the DC because he wants to finish as soon as possible, he gets a result of 890 sp per week. It will take him just under 17 weeks to finish the suit, which I guess is fine enough.

But now he wants to make a suit of mithril full plate. It costs 10500 gp (105000 sp), but the DC remains the same. So if he again takes 10 and "rushes", it will take him just under 118 week (more than two years) to finish the suit of armor.

Should it take longer to make a suit of armor out of a special material? Possibly. But the primary reason mithril full plate is so expensive is that mithril is rare and difficult to obtain, not because it is difficult to craft.

Another issue then comes, when we consider having assistants (which most armor smiths had historically). The rules doesn't specify otherwise, so by RAW, only thing the assistants can do is Aid Another. Let us say he has 4 assistants (any more would probably get in the way of each other), which adds +8 to his skill rolls. The armors would then take 13½ weeks or 95 weeks, respectively. Certainly better, but still a very long time.

Would it be reasonable to assume that each person could work on a part of the suit of armor (perhaps with a slight penalty)? After all, a suit of full plate armor is not one piece of metal, but many small (the largest being the cuirass/breast plate).

Thoughts?

Hi Paizo

I have a question regarding shipping of subscribed products.

Let us say, I subscribe to the Adventure Paths and the total cost including discount and shipping amounts to $20.00

Will that be the price listed on the package? I'm asking as the local customs system is very FUBAR and would more than double the price if the value of the package exceeds a certain amount.

Hi Customer Service.

First, if this has already been answered elsewhere, I apologize, but couldn't find it at the moment.

If I order, say, four books at the same time, will they be shipped as one package or as four packages?

The reason I ask is that I live in a country with some rather harsh toll fees (per package), and if they were to be sent in four packages, I'd have to sell a kidney or something like that.

Hope you can provide an answer.

Bruno

I noticed that the bear under druids' animal companions start out as a small bear and becomes medium at 4th level. Is this really correct? Is it a bear cub? Seeing as some of the other animals start out as medium and become large, or even start out as large, I'm thinking this is a mistake, but would like to know for sure.
