"Probably that invisible sprite that was in the inn with us. Well, we'll worry about that later, the weather is getting bad."

Bronx seems to be very disheartened at the moment and just looks like he wasn't to get back to the inn.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

"What? Being scared, sure I've felt that before. And no, I didn't really see what happened, I was focused on getting out of there. Anyway, who cares about that bear and its chain. Let's get out of here."

Bronx did so bad on his save, he isn't even aware he was affected by anything.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Bronx will put his scythe away and get out his bow. "Well, I'm thirst, maybe we should head back to town."

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Will Save (LOL, yeah right):
1d20-1=3

Bronx seems to be broken from his "mood". "Let's get out of here now, back to the town quickly. Follow my lights!" Bronx starts back North, double moving and having the dancing lights move with him.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

In case you haven't picked up on it. Bronx, though not stupid, isn't all that great with common sense sometimes. Especially if he believes that there is some fey mischief at work. In those cases he goes "psycho". Currently he is in one of those "moods", and so retreat isn't really being considered an option for him yet.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

"Show yourself!"

Bronx casts dancing lights (four lantern version) 60' in front of him (towards the south).

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Bronx will nod with agreement and begin creeping around to the south, staying ready to attack anything dangerous.

Davkul Gladdenstone wrote:
Davkul jogs up to the group declaring, "Boy are you lot a sight for sore eyes. Do beware there's likely to be one of those damn invisible things on my tail." Calling Nightsong to his shoulder, Davkul gives him a fond pat in thanks for his help.

Bronx's teeth suddenly stop chattering and he tilts his head as if listening to something.

Listen check:
1d20+3=18

Bronx is trying to hear if anything is around that they can't see, and if so, where.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

In response to the sound of the wind, Bronx begins to bounce up and down, whispering to himself between chattering teeth, "Come and bring your pretty face to my scythe. I will show you what a fey spawn can truly do." His eyes getting large and wild looking.

Ready an action to strike at any foes that come within reach.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

If someone has a free hand (Donnie maybe), Bronx will try to shove his torch into their hand (they might take it or let it drop). In any case he will also drop his walking stick and draw out his scythe.

If whoever Bronx is trying to hand the torch to is not right next to him, he will 1st drop his walking stick (free action). Move to Donnie or whoever (move action), and draw his scythe will moving (+1 BAB->free action while moving), holding it in his hand, and then finally attempt to give the torch to whoever (probably a move action). So depending on what type of action (free, swift, move) it is to switch to wielding it, Bronx may or may not have the scythe readied.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

In gnomish Bronx will say to the gnome that was under the bear, "I don't think you should move, you don't look well at all. Can anyone help this hurt fellow?"

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Bronx will use his walking stick as a lever as well and attempt to assist the others in turn over the bear.

Strenght assist roll:
1d20+2=6

... or not.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

"I think its been dead for less than an hour, though I can't be sure."

Hearing Seebo's comment to Nim, "Actually I'm starting to agree with the big guy. We might be over our heads here."

Search check:
1d20+4=12

"As for traps ..."

Charles

Spoiler:
You'll have to let us know if that search check got anything.

Also, I can see how the heal skill might be relevent to trying to determine time/how of death, but what does the investigator feat have to do with it. It just gives you a +2 to a couple of skills, it doesn't give access to any special abilities, or is there another investigator feat besides the one in the PHB?

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Bronx will put his walking stick away and then gingerly touch the bear to see if it is still warm. "Looks like someone's pet, and I think they might have been crushed underneith it."

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

"Well I guess I can see if it is still warm. Something this big should be warm for a while even in this weather I would think." Bronx will cautiously approach the dead bear. Before Bronx touches the dead bear he will try to get a better look at the dark areas around where the head should have been and under.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Seebo Murnig wrote:
Seebo looks to Bronx to get going again, and quietly asks him, "what was that all about?".

Bronx will wait for the trapper to be well on his way. "I noticed he wasn't making any marks in the snow. I thought he might be an experienced woodsman, some of them supposably can walk without leaving the faintest trace.

But when he turned to speak, his eyes were 'empty', I could see right through them and see the trees on the other side. He was not of this world. I don't know for certain, but I think he tried to warn us of something, but I couldn't make it out as is often the case with such unnatural beings, or so I have been told.

Best let him be on his way. And we should be on ours and away from this cursed area." Bronx will continue following the trail.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Sense Motive:
1d20-1=17

"Seebo. Donnie. Move out the way and let this ... fellow pass ... I mean let him go by." Bronx seems a bit disturbed by the fellow, the arm holding the torch is shaking noticably. "I think he means us no harm, but I doubt he can be any help to us."

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Spot:
1d20+3=14

"Greetings huntsman! Might we ask you a few questions?"

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Listen:
1d20+3=9

"Yeah, hopefully it isn't sick and tries to attack us. Still, big guy get your head out of that bag and get ready, we might need your arm."

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Survival Check:
1d20+3=9

"Let's go folks, I think I remember seeing the fellow wearing that hat, and he had complained about being hunted by sprites before this. The gods only know what horrible treatment he is recieving now."

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Spot:
1d20+3=20

Bronx will point out a satchel up ahead.

"I think we should follow this 'path'. It seems as if whoever was being chased was purposefully guided here. And was grabbed at this point. I think this 'path' in the snow may have been formed by some kind of sled. It looks like the bugs have dispersed, having fulfilled their job. Definitely seems like sprite mischief."

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Seeing that the group is going to be leaving the lights of the buildings and head into the dark, he will put away his bow and get out his walking stick. He will also take out a torch and light it. He'll hold the torch in his off hand and wield his walking stick in his other. He will start off as soon as the big guy starts going.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

"Herbert? Was that the fellow that you were talking to Davkul? Or was it the fellow that disappeared by that plant?

As for waiting for the authorities, well if some poor fellow is being chased by fairy summoned giant bugs, he ain't going to make it without some immediate help. Fairies can be vile creatures, and I hate to think of what would happen to someone in their clutches. I say we press on and find out what became of those bugs. And maybe we can knock the wings off of some evil creature while we're at it."

You notice the more Bronx talks about "evil fairies" the more passionate he gets. His eyes are getting extremely wide and his lip is curling back almost like an angry wolf.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

"Well, whoever is with these bugs is on foot as well, so it won't be too far I would think. If it looks like we have to track it out of the town, we'll come back for mounts."

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Bronx will nock an arrow.

"Lead the way big fellow, but keep your ears open. Fairies like to attack from hiding, even it is right in front of you."

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

"Wait here for me, I'll only be a few moments, there are some things I must get before we go out." Bronx will head back to his room and get his "real" weapons that he thought it was impolite to have in the common room. He returns shortly with a scythe strapped over his back and a longbow in his hand. His short walking stick is also stored on his person. Once it looks like everyone that is likely to come is ready, he heads outside.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Bronx is busy pushing the plant around, moving it to see if there is any hole in the floor underneath it to explain where the guy disappeared to. He says to noone in particular, "There was a fairy here. I think it is gone, but it blasted the large bug. I am not sure if it was here to help the creatures or for its own purposes. It said something about 'let darkness take you' when it attacked the bug. Whether that was a purposeful attack or that it was upset that bug tried to hit it, I don't know."

Bronx then stands up and takes a deep breath as if resigning himself to not figuring out the mystery of the plant, and turns his back to it and faces the group, though he moves away from the plant cautiously. "Well, what an wonderful group we are here. My name is Bronx Madcap, fairy hunter by calling."

Bronx looks like he has been living in a dirt pile for the last two years. The only clean part of him is the area around his mouth where it has been washed by the ale he has been drinking. There are random sticks and dried leaves in his hair and beard. There is a half-crazed look in his eyes, especially when he starts talking about fey.

Bronx moves back and tosses the burning stick back into the fireplace.

"We should go outside and see if we can find any trace of that tricksy creature, since I don't think it is in here anymore. I think it knew more about what was going on."

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

"Hmm, I guess they didn't like the smell of that oil. Good thinking to pour it out and scare them." Bronx seems oblivious to what Seebo was really trying to do. "Now it looks like we got a plant to deal with."

Bronx moves to D2 and stabs the plant with the buring brand. "Spit him out beasty!"

Attack roll on plant (it if matters):
1d20+4-4=17

Damage (1d2+3 and 1 point fire):
1d2+3,1=[2, 3], 1

Would all characters still remaining in the common room yet to act please spoiler text of any actions except for comments made 'out loud', and either label such spoilers along the lines of 'for everyone else in the common room' (for general reading) or 'for the DM'.

I think everyone has acted this round, though Seebo might need to make an attack roll with the oil lamp.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Listen:
1d20+3+2=21

"Get fire to burn those bugs. Watch out the fairy went over by the fireplace!"

Bronx moves over to the fire place (C3) and reachs in and grabs a burning brand (from the end not on fire) if there are any, keeping hold of his walking stick in his offhand. He looks around nervously as if expecting to be attacked.

Charles:

Spoiler:
Does Bronx think that using a torch or burning brand (from the fireplace) would be effective against them? I ask because he hasn't seen anyone do any spells that are real attack spells. He also doesn't have any flasks of alchemical material.

I'll wait on your response before I state my actions for the round.

"Well WE scared that one off, well done fellows."

For all non-fey, Sense Motive = 14. For fey, Sense Motive = 16

Bronx seems to be trying to hint something to Seebo, but he doesn't seem to be doing a very good job at it.

Bronx then swings down at the bug at his feet.

Seebo:

You can take a five foot step from your current location B1 to B2 a place where you will be diagonally adjacent to Bronx; however this location is threatened by the 'beetle' in B3, and you will either have to take your chances with provoking an attack of opportunity from it by casting a spell, or take a full-round action (and make a concentration check) to cast defensively, by which point Bronx may be in still more trouble.
It is also the caster of healing spells who rolls the dice for Hit Points restored, since they may be more familiar with their Caster Level and any bonuses that they possess which may apply to spells.
Edit:
If you are unable to post before I get around to the next set of actions for any (surviving) monsters, I shall work on the basis that you meant to heroically risk an attack of opportunity to heal Bronx and make dice rolls (including for healing bestowed if casting is successful) and post accordingly.

Actually Seebo could cast the spell first, THEN take the 5' step and touch Bronx, thus negating the need for casting defensively.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

"Cowards! Help us defeat this giant monster!"
Despite his bravado, Bronx looks badly injuried by the larger creature's attack. He takes a more defensive stance as he attacks the bigger creature. Fighting defensively -4 att -> +2 AC, combat expertise -1 att -> +1 AC, total -5 att -> +3 AC.
AC now is 18 for Bronx.

sorry i am slightly confused as to the way we are doing init and when best for me to enter the story... i hereby give you permission to post it in a big obvious, patronizing way so i dont miss it :P

Donnie, confused by the brawl that has erupted near him stands and watches unable to move of shock.

My understanding is that all PCs have the same initiative roll. What order things actually happened in, is based on the order that people post.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Bronx pushes the bug off of him and stands up.

"To arms! Bash the bugs, at least they aren't pixies!"

"Looks like you have a bug problem." Bronx says though he sounds a bit confused. He draws out his walking stick (club) and pokes at something in the corner.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Spot:

Listen:
1d20+3=23

Bronx will stand perfectly still and carefully studies the corner.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

"Pixies and Sprites! You can't be too careful I tell you! If I catch one of those here ..."

Bronx wanders the room poking into corners and dark areas. Once he is satisfied with that, he'll start trying to poke other patrons in the arm to see if they are "really" who they appear.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Bronx's ears perk up at the "imp or pixie thing" comment. He then nods approvingly when it is described destroyed.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Bronx is oblivious to the newcomer, being already engrossed in telling a story to a poor server who is probably looking for a polite way to get away.

"... I then tracked the fairy, and I tell you it ain't no easy piece to do that given their flying and disappearing and all. But I found him, sitting there playing his evil fiddle that he had made the children dance to. Well I got out my bow, knocked an arrow and BLAM! Ended his playing days for good.

Kill 'em? Well ... not exactly. That is, I hit his fiddle, and broke it good. I mean sure hitting him might have been better, but hey it all worked out. He was a bit fuming at the time, and I made a hasty retreat."

Having ended his story he releases the server, and turns to the others.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Davkul and Bronx could have met up on the rode going into town, as long as Davkul wouldn't have been too scared off by a wild half-insane looking gnome that came riding up to him shouting, "Hello there!"

Charles Evans 25 wrote:

I am hoping for an early February start, if everyone could finalise their character 'sheets', and backgrounds/reasons for being in Deadsnows.

In particular I would like to know if you have arrived here as a group, or have arrived 'piecemeal' for a variety of reasons? Given that the elves favour dwarf/gnome/halfling miners (smaller folk equal smaller tunnels, and less spoil that needs to be removed) there are several hostelries/guest-houses in town that cater mostly for 'smaller folk'; conceivably everyone could have met up in one of these.

For Bronx, he has spent alot of time alone passing through various areas searching for evil feys to kill. Luckily for him he hasn't found many given his low damage and the fact that fey have DR. He has spent time visiting druids and such to learn about the ways of the feys, in order to better understand them.

He has probably tired of traveling alone for the time being and is looking to find a place to wash the dirt from his throat (though probably not from his poorly kept beard). He might meet people on the road or at a local watering hole.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

How are we coming with getting ready to start? Not that I am trying to pressure anyone. ;)

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Ok, I went ahead and got a pony too. I should be able to take a 10 on survival and keep it and me both fed if necessary. And who knows, one day in the distant future it might be Bronx's animal companion.

(Male (Rock) Gnome Ranger 1)

Are people getting mounts or not? I don't want to not get one and everyone else has one.
