Hey, come on now! Not all American beer is boring. You've got a lot of interesting craftbrewers out there: Abita, Stoudt's, Anchor, Flying Fish, Harpoon, Magic Hat, Rogue, Ommegang, Saranc, Troegs, Victory, Shiner, Dogfish Head, Yards, Stone, Sierra Nevada, just to name a few.

Flavors? Pfft. Americans aren't looking for flavor, we want a really cheap, really cold pitcher of beer. And another. And another...and another. Basically, we just want to be drunk.

Whoa now there young lad! Speak for yourself. As a homebrewer and general beer aficionado, I most certainly do not resemble that remark. Nor do many people I know. The fact is, that for the last 15 or so years, the number of craftbrewers in this country had been growing for a reason.

As a representative of the Booze Coalition, I propose - BEER!

While I agree that Shiner's got some great beers, the second part there doesn't make any sense at all. There are plenty of great American beers.

And, for the record, smoked beers (of which rauchbiers are the best known) do have a wonderful flavor - seriously, they're like liquid bacon. Usually done as a lager. A buddy of mine brewed a batch that was awesome, and a local brew pub has their own version that's really damn good.
