Oh man, I used to go to that store all the time back when I lived on Lake City Way. Picked up many an old classic RPG item there. I remember a guy who worked there who always had his dog behind the counter, it was friendly Husky-like dog.

My wife also used to buy old Dentist tools for to use for sculpting. Glad to see that somebody got what was left of their old stock and will put it to good use. I will always miss that store.

I made an order last month (November 26) and still haven't gotten anything from the order. Most of the stuff was from the GR sale, but even the items not from that list have not yet shipped. I actually forgot about the whole thing until today.

Judging by this thread, I'm not the only who's been waiting. Yikes!

That GR "sale" seemed like a good idea at the time, I guess...

I got the original card set and loved it. I always thought the idea was a no-brainer (much like those old TSR Wizard and Priest spell cards) and was long overdue.

That said, I'm totally bummed that the further releases are in a CCG format. Oh, I'll buy a few packs...but I just don't want to go hunting through pack after pack to get one of each. At minimum, I just like one of each. If I really dug certain cards or needed more for a campaign, I'd buy more than one complete set (like I did the first set).

It's a shame you don't offer a complete set along with the packs. Course, by doing this...you miss out on the revenue from those of who don't mind buying a whole lot of packs and what not.

Yeah, yeah...I realize that I don't "need" a whole set. I just preferred buying them one deck at a time, like in your initial release. Count me in the I care about "visual variety" camp and liked buying the whole set without any extra fuss. Alas, this is no longer how the product is being sold.

Either way, I liked the original set to still want to pick up a a few packs (shame they don't come with a stick of gum). I doubt I'll feel any different after I buy a couple of packs. But if I do, I promise to chime in with a "Yes, I have seen the light" post back in here. Luckily, I'm sure somebody will be selling complete sets via ebay. So it shouldn't be impossible for those of us wanting a complete set.

Just wanted to chime in with my two copper pieces. :)

For the readers in my household: I'm 31 and my wife is 29. We've both been playing since our High School days.

My 2 year old daughter likes to look through the magazine while she's on the training potty. She doesn't play yet. (Dice are choking hazards, man.)

Still trying to work out the whole "save vs. messy diaper" thing. A decent bag of holding or maybe even a small sphere of annihilation could help with the disposing of the remains.

but ya did admit you had one as yours.

*shakes fist in the air* I do this only when I'm in a mocking mood. It's all in jest here, right? :)

I also figured you were poking fun. I freely admit that I had one of those avatars...heck, I think I may even have had the one that was Downer himself.

Let it be known, for the record, that I picked that one (of the initial avatars available) because he was the only one with cool hair. It was a toss up between that and the gelatinous cube.

that sounds like spin to me brad

"Spin"?!!

*shakes fist in the air* Damn election year! It has people looking for spins on everything!

I speak the truth! Can somebody else confirm that those avatar images were the only ones we had to choose from at first?

Is'nt ironic that some of the Downer-haters are using avatars from the series' artist?

Well, it might have been less ironic if the message board didn't first start out with avatars only drawn by the series' artist. Now that we have more options, you might see more people (like myself) changing over to other images.

Back to Downer, I liked the art. The art is fine. I'm just care for the comic. But like I said, I can easily avoid the two pages each month...especially if other readers really care for it.

It's no biggie either way, it's not like I buy the mag for the comics. :)

Elan

I like Wil Save. It's only been like what, two or three issues with it so far? Ask me again about it in three months.

Elan

Since the back issue is sold out...can't Paizo reprint the stats (and maybe a higher rez image of that cover) on the website?

How about it? Please?! :)

Elan

I gotta agree that Downer is a Downer. It seems more like a sort of inside joke rather than a comic. I don't really get it, nor am I interested in it enough to even care about it.

It's just two pages of the mag that I skip through each month.

All joking aside, maybe a TV series would better serve D&D than a movie at this point? You could do Forgotten Realms or even Eberron. If one did well, you have a lot of D&D worlds to spin new shows from.

Heck, do a series about Roleplayers but we *see* the game unravel like it does in the players' imagination (Much like that "The Gamers" film by Dead Gentlemen Productions). Only occasionally cutting back to the real world with a botched role or side comment.

This way they could change setting every now and then to keep things fresh. Characters that are well received can move forward where others bite the dust every now and the player creates a new character. Get a bunch of talented actors and some decent writing and the possibilities are endless.

The actor who gets stuck playing the DM, would get the most acting work, as they always get to play the main villain or various important NPCs.

Granted, this is would something very difficult to pitch to Hollywood...let alone get made. Not to mention, it would most likely confuse anybody who isn't already familiar with RPGs, already kind of defeating the purpose of attracting new people to the game.

...

Still, a well-done television series (or even mini-series) might score big. It all depends on how it's been done and who's doing it.

In issue #324, the Editor goes on about how he hopes the D&D film sequel will help get people talking about D&D again. Granted, I don't see how the sequel can be any worse than the first film...but still, I doubt a sequel (especially if it's a direct-to-video sequel) is gonna generate much interest.

Times are tough and our methods are gonna have to be extreme to get the people of today talking about D&D again. I think we need a sequel to the 1982 classic, Mazes and Monsters. This movie-of-the-week helped put some serious fear into those unfamiliar with roleplaying games. We need that kind of press again. We'll become that hip forbidden fruit that people only whisper about.

Heck, get Rona Jaffe (Author of the original novel that the film was based off) to write a sequel. It can follow the exploits of the surviving characters and how that cursed RPG still haunts them. Maybe even make it a "next generation" thing as we now find their own children have succumbed to evils of this wicked game. While we're at it, lets get Tom Hanks to reprise his role as that "gamer who went over the edge" and show how even after twenty-plus years he still hasn't recovered.

...

Okay, maybe this isn't a very good idea at all. But hey, people would be talking about D&D again! ;)

But it is still coming out, right?

If so, that's good enough for me. Of course, by the time I get all my old favorite Movies and TV shows on DVD...a new video format will come out and I'll have to start all over. :p

This game look awesome. Worth buying for the minis and terrain alone. Just have to wait for it to get a mass release.

Lord, I envy those lucky enough to get in playtests for stuff like this.

Elan

We just saw this over the weekend. I loved his other films and really enjoyed this one too. But I wouldn't list it as his best film.

I do think the marketing for the film was really misleading. I'm just glad I didn't get this one spoiled for me, it was kind of predictable in a lot of ways...yet there was at least one or two things the ended up being unexpected to me.

People tend to either really like or really hate his movies.

Elan

I'd love to see a few more pages of each issue devoted to showcasing the great artwork we see in your magazine and in various D&D products. Maybe you could feature a specific D&D artist (Current, past, upcoming?) each month?

This would be pretty cool if you did a short interview with said artist and gave them a section for them to share any unpublished art (sketches, unused game art) they had. Heck, maybe you could even do a monthly centerfold/mini-poster featuring a piece of art from the featured artist.

Another thing that might be cool is a "Share your character art" section where readers could submit a piece of art featuring one of their characters. Granted, you'd only print the best looking ones (Stick-figure Barbarian figther man might not work). Who knows, maybe the next great D&D artist could be discovered from your magazine?

Just a thought. :)

Thumbs up on the new site too! Keep up the good work.
