How many characters are in that party? If it's just the 3 + 1 NPC mentioned (Slayer, Brawler, Investigator, plus Paladin), then it sounds like they have a serious lack of spellcasting support/battlefield control.

3 PCs and sometimes a supporting NPC. They know they are outnumbered most of the time but new group (brawler, slayer, paladin) seems to get through encounters pretty nicely. But yes, battlefield control is their biggest weakness right now. It will be interesting to see how players will play around that weakness. :)

Just to clarify, we are playing bit of a hard mode campaign this time. Using XP for first time in 10 years and as a GM I roll all attack rolls in the open, if die shows crit, it is a crit. All players agreed to this and are having fun (I'm checking this one constantly, nothing is more against my playstyle than having miserable players).

Paladin "almost" died today! Took some heavy hits but slayer sniped the enemy before paladin fell. Great fun!

Name: William "Will" Sunsong, halfelf bloodrager (abyssal) 6 and moldspeaker
Book: House of the Beast
Where: Warrens
Catalyst: Fighting alone against 2 Carrion Guards and their mounts

Will got eaten by hyenadons and their riders. He faced them bravely alone, as other two companions either tried to make enought light for large hall or battled against other hyenadons'. Basically, it was 4 against 1 and when Will was knocked unconscious and his rage ended, he was dead. No raise dead for him, his legacy will haunt them yet.

Replacement character is halfling slayer (sniper).

Name: Wincent Quill, human investigator 6
Book: House of the Beast
Where: Throneroom
Catalyst: The Carrion King

Friendly NPC paladin was facing Carrion King was defeated (but not killed) by the monster. Brawler was fighting some distance away and slayer was invisible (rushing towards the paladin) so Wincent was the next target. Being whimsy human and Goreshred being what it is, one swing was dangerous. Natural 20 on attack roll and 18 from confirmation before modifiers made it even more dangerous, 70 points on damage on "my max hp is 38" character. Wincent was dead in an instant.

His replacement will the paladin that survived. Now brawler, Malak al Jafa is only original character and only remaining Knight of Kelmarane.

The Wild Hunt.. Awesome!

Name: Haringroth aka. "Hagron"
Class/Level: Half-orc fighter 14
Adventure: Sins of the Saviors
Catalyst: Twice: phantasmal killer and Azaven's touch
Story: Bad luck and more bad luck

*Sigh*, I can't keep Hagron alive even if I try! He failed his Will and Fort save against Vraxeri's phantasmal killer against all odds and died . I let him to come back to life with heal scroll the party had after they retreated because of this death.

Against Azaven he took finger of death to face and barely survived and got some healing. He tried to retreat but Azaven managed to touch him with his AoO and made enough damage to kill him again.. And again heal scroll brought him back (as if it had breath of life-kind of function).

Party has no real healer or anyone who can cast raise dead so to keep game interesting, I had to let some rules slip by but I still count these as deaths.

Highest probably Wisdom. I'm good at reading people and noticing how others are feeling (as "he looks now really pissed/annoyed/sad, maybe she/he needs someone to talk to"). Often my "read" is correct, which helps a lot in my current job (youth worker). Noticing and hearing things and understanding meanings behind something that has been said, that is my job.

I don't have real dump stats (as my characters don't have those either) but my lowest is probably Str as I'm not particularly strong guy for my size (about 190cm and bit over 100kgs).

Name: Haringroth aka. "Hagron"
Class/Level: Half-orc fighter 13
Adventure: Fortress of the Stone Giants
Catalyst: Disintegrated by Mokmurian
Story:
So my PCs faced Mokmurian in a epic fight in his quarters and managed to corner him. Mokmurian dimension doored away and PCs followed him, guessing that he was heading to (now dead) lamias. Final battle took place at the crossroads at the northern end of the first level of Jorgenfist dungeons. Hagron charged the giant but only managed to make him more angry and in his rage Mokmurian unleashed the power of disintegrate on Hagron.

Hagron had about 50-50 chance to make the save but he failed. Then I rolled d6s' like a champion and Hagron turned to dust. Other heroes managed to save the day and even bring their friend back to life.

Third time runnign this AP (now in AE) and again I have a group of three players. One of the player is veteran player and two are newer ones, this being their first "longer-5-sessions" campaign and second all in all. We are now middle of the Hook Mountain Massacre and game has been a blast.

Decimus Halst male human conjurer
Decimus and his family fled from Cheliax to Korvosa when he was very young. After studying in Acadamae, he left Korvosa behind to make his own fortune as a magical shop owner. He thinks himself as historian and researcher of ancient ruins and runes. He has made many friends in Sandpoint (like Ven Vinder) and even though he is not keen on traveling, possibility of seeing ancient structures interests him. His aunt is a hell knight paralictor in Magnimar. (played by the veteran player)

Haringroth Tharallix male half-orc fighter
Hailing from Varisian low-lands near Ember Lake, his village was attacked by giants. They survived and fled to live in near by village of Nybor but Haringroth's hate for giants lives on. He thinks himself as bodyguard (not as mercenary) but sometimes his actions make him look much like the latter.

Jonandrall "Skip" Kerr male half-elf ranger
Born to elven mother in Celwynvian, Skip was forced to exile after his grandfather died. He lived many years as a servant in Riddleport to a underling of an crime boss. He left the city and moved to south, thinking about starting illegal business himself. Skip is the most unpredictable character of the party but he has soft spot for wounded animals and nature all together.

Totally missed that part of the invisibility that targeting spells breaks it off. Well, you learn something new every day, even though I have been playing this game since 2009.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Third time running this campaign, this time as AE. My first casualty has never come this quickly in this campaign!

Name: Haringroth aka. "Hagron"
Class/Level: Half-orc fighter 6
Adventure: Skinsaw Murders
Catalyst: Coup de graced by Justice Ironbriar @ 7 Sawmill
Story:
Heroes got themselves in their biggest fight yet, walking inside the sawmill pretending to be potential customers, demanding to see the whole building. After some sneak scouting, other PC saw Nualia and Tsuto at the top level of the mill. They were on their way out when they noticed that workers below a level and on the same level were trying to corner them. They tun to top level and got themselves fighting 10 cultists, Tsuto and Nualia.

When Nualia fell, Ironbriar joined in. After summoning the lemurs he casted hold person on Hagron and after others destroyed the lemur next to him, Ironbriar (still invisible) moved next to Hagron and slashed his throat, killing him outright.

After selling all the masks the cultists' had, they had enough money to raise Haringroth back to life.

HYPERSTORM is a science fiction role-playing game about explorers and treasure hunters who go boldly beyond the final frontier - into the Hyperstorm.

I want share with you a Finnish RPG project called Hyperstorm RPG that is a upcoming game from Finnish roleplaying publisher called Ironspine. In 2006, Ironspine published a science fiction roleplaying game called Heimot (eng. Tribes) that was somewhat popular in Finnish roleplaying scene. It was hard covered, high value book. Main focus of the game was mankind's future, heroes were outcasts of their tribes who tired to make living in world where prejudices between mankind and aliens (and even between different human tribes!) made everything hard. Relics from humanity's glorious days would make someone very rich but risk them to many dangers. Heimot landed somewhere between Firefly and Dunes if I had to compare its setting to something.

Now Ironspine is making a reboot game to Heimot and it will be in English. Hyperstorm.com has additional information about the game, I like this quote a lot as it tells much about what they are trying to accomplish:

Quote:

Outer Space Wreck Crawling

The core idea of this game concept is to transfer the well-tested idea of dungeon crawling into outer space. Instead of dungeons, the heroes in this game will be exploring wrecks. In game terms, wrecks can be anything from crash-landed space ships, wrecked space stations, and abandoned colony settlements to mysterious enigmas or other alien ruins.

The wrecks are more often than not dangerous places, with terrible creatures, clever traps and other dangers such as leaking reactors, rogue nano-swarms or weird dimensional anomalies waiting for the hapless explorer.

Depending on what you want to make of it, the adventures can be just simple blast & slash looting, or the characters can get entangled in galactic conspiracies or take sides in the on-going conflicts between different factions.

Hyperstorm will go to crowdsourcing in sometime, you can find the plan for this project from this blog post (pre-order means IndieGogo or something similar). I'll keep this topic updated as we go into future so you won't miss anything about this project.

As you probably can see, I'm pretty hyped about Hyperstorm RPG. It is because of many things: Heimot is one of my favorite games and settings, Ironspine is great publisher and I really like their games. Their latest game, Astraterra, was just sold out here in Finland just a year after its publishing. I encourage you to check out the website, Hyperstorm RPG to read about the game, setting and to be amazed by the art the game will have.

Go boldly in to the Hyperstorm!

That is really good point that I have missed. Not that I have played many spells for that combat trick but I chosen spells that can't be used as part of it.. I didn't remember that when typing my post above. I probably need to change some spells from my Seltiyel.

Seltiyel is good character, I also like him. He is like mix between Valeros (good melee) and Lem or Seoni (spell utility). Favored card weapon and then using spells to add 1d6 to combat check is often enough to beat monsters. I have speed to buff Lirianne and Jirelle with their Dex-based stuff and hopefully I'll get Safe Haven spell from Raiders of the Fever Sea set so we get some healing (the biggest problem in our three half-elf team). All in all he is good character, bonus points for Craft skill.

This thread is great btw.

Bloodrager and changing spells

Quote:

My friend is playing bloodrager in our campaign he just hit 4th level and his bloodrager gets his first spells. We noticed that bloodrager doesn't have the line about changing spells at certain levels. So can bloodrager change his spells known when leveling like a sorcerer can or is he stuck with spells choices he makes for the rest of his life?

Is this intentional or just an error? I can see no reason for one spontaneous caster not to have option to change his spells as he gets more powerful. Bloodrager is different kind of caster but this still wonders me a lot.

Thanks for replying.

It looks like you were serious about making S&S set harder than RotRL.. The Secret of the Mancatcher Cove looks awesome! Idea of building new locations during playing sounds great, hopefully it will be as awesome when playing the game.

Good blog all the way.

My friend is playing bloodrager in our campaign he just hit 4th level and his bloodrager gets his first spells. We noticed that bloodrager doesn't have following line that other spontaneous casters have:

Quote:
Upon reaching 4th level, and at every even-numbered sorcerer/bard/oracle/(summoner at 5th) level after that (6th, 8th, and so on), a sorcerer/bard/oracle/(summoner) can choose to learn a new spell in place of one she already knows. In effect, the sorcerer loses the old spell in exchange for the new one. The new spell's level must be the same as that of the spell being exchanged. A sorcerer may swap only a single spell at any given level, and must choose whether or not to swap the spell at the same time that she gains new spells known for the level.

Is this intentional or just an error? I can see no reason for one spontaneous caster not to have option to change his spells as he gets more powerful. Bloodrager is different kind of caster but this still wonders me a lot.

Thanks for replying.

My gaming group played this scenario yesterday and I ruled the confusion about that hand size thing that it does not change the fact about the limit. Afterwards we talked about scenario and how easy it was for us and I had second thoughts about my ruling but happy to see that I was correct. Seltyiel, Lirianne and Jirelle had fun time clashing swords and pointing guns in the face of the henchmen and Master Scourge.

Okay, this sounds interesting. I was hoping for Varisia focused AP and maybe Runelords but now I get to play political intrigue as my brother probably wants to run this as he likes Cheliax so much.

Name is really awesome and hopefully this AP will live up to that!

We finally got additional ships to accompany our original Wrath of the Dawn. Our captain stayed on his own ship and others got their own but still visit and travel on our first ship.

Other three ships are:
Shadow of the Ocean, commanding officer is human fighter/shadowdancer
Phoenix, commanding officer is half-orc druid with bird companion.
Efreeti's Fist, commanding officer is qinggong/four winds monk who uses efreet style and fire based attacks.

Hmm, I think it was Ward who killed the dog. He couldn't shoot it when it was looking at him but when it was unaware of him. Same with Fitz and Simmons, when Ward pushed those buttons he turned his back to Fitz&Simmons so he wouldn't have to look at them when "killing" them.

Just my 2cents about that scene, I really liked it. Episode was great too.

Same as above.

If you like that gimmick :-)

Hmm, more reason to go see this movie again. Like I said, all effects were really cool and well made so maybe that's the reason why I don't "remember" 3D effects all too well. Or it could have been that the story made me forgot that I had something on my nose and to pay attention if 3D was used or how it was used.

Dazylar wrote:

Yeah, sorry about that. ^^" It always confusing to write on forums that have people from different time zones as my "day before yesterday" could be different day to someone else.

Someone mentioned 3D in this movie. When I try to think if there was any great 3D effects, none come to mind. BUT it could be that 3D was used in small details and not like "trying to jump scare everyone in theater with this effect".
But I think special effects in this movie were great, especially Falcon flying on dodging stuff.

Here in Finland movie is called "Captain America: Return of the First Avenger" that title may fit better to the themes of the movie. Your mileage may vary. I personally like the Winter Soldier name better but that has nothing to do with the movie itself, I just think Winter Soldier is cool and creepy name for villain.

I went to see this last Wednesday and ou boy what show it was. Like Dazylar said, this movie is well written, acting is good and balance between action-dialogue-humor is working well. Evans did great job as Cap, solid performance that made Cap feel more like Cap than in previous movies. Also writing makes that happen, Cap is fighting for freedom against oppression and behind the scenes manipulation. When we add Black Widow and her working ethics to that, we have some conflict which makes sense (SHIELD's "secrets has secrets"). Scarlet is really at the top of her acting in this one, she is much more than before.

I'm loving the Falcon. Good actor and great writing and scenes for him in this movie. He is funny but not just comic relief and he gets some really cool moments in movie. Hopefully we get to see more of him in the future.

Action scenes work well and they feel "superheroy". Sometimes I noticed to be on the edge of my seat when action went forward. That is saying much about how good action was, I'm more than often sitting perfectly still when in movie theater. Maybe it was because Winter Soldier was really great villain or that action scenes were also well written. High stakes and people got killed, which for me works as added realism.

It was great to see how this movie links itself to some previous movies and Agents of SHIELD but not Avengers. Ironman 3 and Thor the Dark World had many nods and links to Avengers movie but it was nice to see that it isn't really necessary.

Hopefully I have chance to see this movie for second time to realize all plot points and twists. I highly recommend this movie.

I loved the stunt point system, especially "Seize the Initiative". Go last in a round, Seize the Initiative, first next round. My DM hated that because I kept doing it. Killed so many zombies.

Yeah, we have been waiting for it too eventhough our game has been on long hiatus. Second set looked promising although we had long discussion about being grey warden (mechanical and narrative viewpoints both). But yes, stunt points are awesome. Vague enough to give player's chance to tell how they do their stuns but effects are still same. My shield&sword warrior's favorite combo was knocking enemy down with shield and use mighty blow/pierce armor to finish enemy off. Dragon Age rpg is awesome.

In between PF sessions we play... more PF? In my gaming group most of the player's have time only for one campaign or project at the time so often there are two vampaigns at the same time and nothing else. I would like to play more games but often we have to choose between familiar PF and unfamiliar (to players, not for me) other game and often choice is PF.

But we have played couple of other roleplaying games in these days when PF has been taking most of our time:
-Dragon Age RPG (love the system and the world. Also our first timer GM did great job with this game.)
-Dresden Files (I read the books and wanted to try this. Campaign lasted five session and game was great, PF orientated players loved who they could affect things)
-Lamentations of the Flame Princess (old-school fantasy with lots of horror and weird elements, like low-magic PF+Arkham Horror. Couple of sessions time to time)
-E.N.O.C: Operation Eisenberg (Finnish "ready-to-play" occult-action roleplaying game. PCs are part of organization called E.N.O.C which is like Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (BPRD) in Hellboy. Fighting zombies, nazis and zombi-nazis in very action movie like style. Loved by my players)

There are lot more roleplaying games in my shelf than we can play. It is bit sad but luckily there are times when they are used. I also have large collection of boardgames (as have my friends) to when we don't play roleplaying games we gather around the table with one or more boardgames. Arkham Horror, Smash Up!, Lords of Waterdeep, Eclipse are most playd games of 2014. Also A Game of Thrones Living Card Game is is played a lot by me and two others (trying to get others to play it too).

I'm playing monk in this AP right now. Background wise he is red mantis trainee who escaped to seas to look for cyclop ruins. I play lawful as strong respect to chain of command and honoring their own ship over anything. If something threatens the ship and its crew, it must be dealt with. Captains orders are law but having argument with captain isn't wrong. Opposing slavery and providing enough freedom to crew mates is also important. This is more personal code and having two CN's (other being captain himself) is fun as very often our CN shadowdancer doesn't see eye to eye with monk. I can recommend playing monk in Skull&Shackles.

Thanks in advance!

That really depends how your group feels about Trinia and Blackjack. If you they feel for them and think Queen is making a mistake, Maidens will look really villanous that time as they try to capture "Hero of the People". I introduced Maidens with doctor Davaulus as their bodyguards and "muscle". As I played Davaulus very nice person, my player's thought that Maidens were nice addition to thin military force Korvosa had in my game (reason for character's to help).

So all in all, it really depends how you want to show Maidens to your players, "villanous" or as necessary part of Korvosa's military.

In a party of rogue, cad fighter/shadow dancer and druid I find my monk being useful in combat and social situations. In combat my qinggong 4 winds monk can be tough front liner with toughness/lots of hp druid or mobile as rogue when needed. When using elemental fist with efreet style he hits the hardest, par maybe the rogue when he crits and gets SA. Also in campaign where heavy armors are very rare, the monk gets to shine. Outside of combat my monk can be lie detector with high sense motive, search engine thanks to high perception, scout with no armor or go-to-guy when information about history or religion is needed. Intimidate is my social skill, not very good at it but often role playing covers that area.

I'm enjoying playing the monk. He fits to party, is very self-sufficient and as others have said before: being versatile is the key. Also preparing for adventure like buying potions and oils can really help the monk around if there are no buffers in party.

Awesome movie, by the way. I think that Iv'e never seen such an elegant way for fighting off an alien invasion :P

A, for sure. B, some of those clues I got when watching the movie some I got later on when talking with my brother. When I'm watching Wright's movies my perception for things like hints of things yet to come rises to new level. This was my first Wright movie in theater so some things were easier to catch than others.

Like did you guys catch that..
Spoiler:
all surnames of main cast are somehow linked to medieval government/court? There's King, Knight(ley), Chamberlain, Prince and Page. Surnames also describe their place in group. This was pretty easy catch to my opionion.

Like someone said, this was pretty funny movie. If we measure funny by how often or how hard audience/I laughed, it was funniest movie of all time. Only once before I have been in Finnish movie theater and heard so much laugh (Iron Sky if you were wondering). Pegg was hilarious and others were almost as good. King's past and reason for whole "last adventure" was really touching when it was revealed and Pegg played it perfectly. All in all really good movie that I'll enjoy watching in future.

I also have some conversions/level ups made for key NPCs but some of the info is in Finnish. I can put a download link here in about couple of days if people are interested about seeing them. I have leveled up Spivey and Kelda too so there is something that magnuskn awesome level ups don't have.

I was lucky about 'forgotten npc syndrome'. Okay, we had moments (like Tide of Honor) but four main npcs and Spivey were important to my players and they often asked their opinion about things (Ameiko and Sandru being the favorite two). Ameiko was love interest to ninja whose player is really good ROLEplayer and quick-witted so he took care of Ameiko and others being part of the story if I forgot. Sadly, Koya and Shalelu were bit overshadowed by Ameiko and Sandru but also by Ulf. We almost forgot Ulf when we hit Minkai, in book three he was very important to PCs.

One crowning moment of four npcs was when in book three the Hungry Storm is after them and they had to choose between search of Uqtaal Necropolis or trying to go around the mountains. Koya and Shalelu got to real argument about this and it was funny to see how PCs reacted when important npcs argued with nasty nicknames. Also Spivey was lot of fun to me and players, I played her as hyper-active outsider with bit child like view to real world. She especially teased party's samurai but at the end Spivey got chance to show how much she cares for every member of their caravan (multiple Shield Other spells active in the final fight).

All in all I think NPCs in my campaign worked pretty well because players and their characters did care about them. They didn't mind about Ameiko being the one in spotlight, it made campaign even more interesting for them as it is really different to support someone to become something than try to make yourself something.

Full caster is not necessary. My group had samurai, ninja and bard who for most of the time were just fine. Sometimes they had Spivey (many levels below PCs) with them as heal bot with amazing number of channel energy but that was all of it. But as magnuskn said, it helps, sometimes alot. My group didn't have any access to travel magic so it slowed them down in last two books significantly (they used almost whole spring and early summer story of Tide of Honor and end of summer and autumn to travel to Kasai) but it was fine to me and the players.

This. Would. Be. Awesome.

Hmmm... Maybe the most unusual and suprising thing was at the end of the AP.

Crown of Fangs spoiler:
My PCs did defeat the Queen, what a fight that was! Not much hp damage dealt to PCs but more fighting against each other (song of discord) and nasty status effects. But alast, the Queen goes down.

And the Everdawn pool goes wild and Kazavon begins to grow out of it. PCs panic as Everdawn pool deals some serious damage to them. Wizard demands others to come to him so he could dimension door them away. They see how large the dragon is and they flee outside. Soon Kazavon breaks through the ceiling, roars mightly and flies away. Pcs are nothing more but insects to it.

So they stopped the Queen but at the same time failed to stop even bigger evil coming back to life. Oopsie. Sadly we did not have time to continue our campaing (real life reasons) so Kazavon is still free and gathering his powers and armies in the shadow plane.

So bit of bitter-sweet ending. I was so sure that they would came up with plan to stop Everdawm pool but they fled. I just couldn't see that coming. But sometime it is noce to have story that doesn't end perfectly but leaves something open.

Great Ap and this is great thread!

I have question about this ability too. Can Kyra use her ability on herself? It says that she chooses character on her location, so can she choose herself? I can see reasons for both rulings but official/semi-official answer would be nice. It is very powerful ability if she can use it to herself.

When I was running this AP for second time, I sent PCs to Magnimar between Burnt Offerings and Murders. They captured Nualia and some of her underlings alive and sheriff Hemlock wanted to send them to Justice Ironbriar. So he asked PCs to delivere prisoners to Ironbriar. I got to introduce Ironbriar (making revelation of his true nature lot more meaningful) and PCs got chance to make purchases in bigger city. So it worked nicely for story and for PCs.

Two-Weapon Warrior fighter who is bit short-tempered when it comes to facing demons. Young man who lost his family to demons and is now really tired of living in fear of demons. It is time to rise and oppose those monsters! Now is his chance to get revenge and to slay all demons that come to his way.

Character is inspired by Eren Jaeger and captain Levi from manga/anime Attack on Titan. I don't like two-weapon fighting that much but in mythic adventure it might be fun. Not using weapon finesse but otherwise being fast and agile combatant is also fun.

Bought it and played through. When I heard this project (January 2013) I was really excited as it is kind of retro game and about Shadowrun which interests me greatly. I really enjoyed Dead Man's Switch campaign. If I ever get a chance to run p&p Shadowrun I might use DMS as campaign outline. It took me about 11 hours of playing to complete and I enjoyed every second. This kind of text heavy "roleplaying" game with tactical combat works perfectly for me.

I downloaded two homebrew campaigns and they are nice too. Waiting for more custom scenarios and also official campaigns. First run was with elf street samurai focusing on pistol and conjuring, nicely working combo. Street samurai is easily my favorite archtype in Shadowrun.

If you are even little interested about this game, get it.

Character Name: Nazrak Gunlao
Race/Class: Samurai (warrior) 14
Adventure: The Empty Throne
Location: The Well of Demons
Catalyst: The Graveknight

When facing the graveknight on the second level of the Well Nazrak was obvious choice for the knight. Undead monster attacked with all his might against the white samurai and even with magical healing from PC bard and Ameiko, he was left with too few hit points after couple of rounds. Then he hit with all three attacks, making 102 points on damage and killed Nazrak couple of times (he had about 49-65 hp left at that point). As Spivey (their healer in Shrine) was unable to come down to the Well, there was no saving for Nazrak. Other managed to kill graveknight soon after.

Funny thing is that party ninja could have hit graveknight with sneak attacks but thought that samurai would get upset because of his interference.

Nazrak was raised back from dead by Amatatsu Onoko.

-Always speak in character (or make it very clear when you are speaking ooc)
-I do voices as GM, some are better than other. I don't do accents as Finnish accents are very annoying if done wrong.
-Sometimes I use props, for example for my Jade Regent campaign I asked my brother to paint me a picture of the House of Withered Blossoms and of some main enemies in the Empty Throne. Sometimes I make old paper scrolls and stuff like that.
-Music even though I'm not sure if it's helping to create immersion or making it harder (it makes some scenes lot cooler but there hardly is any music actually playing where characters are so..)

Really? (CoT: is not about rebellion.)

Sorry, I'm not familiar with non-Paizo APs so I stand behind my choice.

I admit that upraising part in CoT could be done better and for example in CotCT there is much better working upraising theme but CoT was "sold" to me as rebellion campaign by my GM.

Rise of the Runelords: Legendary!
Curse of the Crimson Throne: Sentimentality (there are some great themes in this AP that can really affect players so that is my choice)
Second Darkness: Secrets

Legacy of Fire: Love
Council of Thieves: Upraising
Kingmaker: Purpose

Serpent Skull: Discovery? (haven't played, haven't read)
Carrion Crown: Chance? (haven't played, haven't read)
Jade Regent: Journey

Skull and Shackles: Freedom? (haven't played, haven't read)
Shattered Star: Legacy
Reign of Winter: Fable? (haven't played, haven't read)

These are my choices. I mostly thought of bigger themes and aspects these campaigns have than what kind of villain or enemies there are.

Are rogues absolutely necessary? I'm just asking because I'm anticipating the possibility that no one will want to play a rogue, since they're so well loved in Pathfinder.

Rogues (or any other class) is hardly necessary for this AP. I haven't run this but even though there are some traps, there are ways to deal with them. Some archetypes can replace rogues easily (detective or archaeologist bard and urban ranger came to mind) and there is always magic to help adventurers (detect traps, knock etc.)

EDIT: But this AP is excellent chance for rogues to shine, thanks to regular amount of traps. Also scouting ahead is pretty useful in dungeon and rogue can do that. Skillmonkeys are always needed in dungeon and in social encounters.
