Under your combined assault the skeleton collapses into a pile of shards.

You get 160 xp for the fight and a hero point each for sticking with the game so far. I hope to see you again after the holidays. Game resumes on Monday January 3. Happy holidays!

Henrys blow is actually a critical hit, so the monster collapses into a disgusting heap, its skull cleft in half. The carcass oozes gore and foul-smelling smile so you are careful to back off a few steps before celebrating, giving Tindertwig time to de-slime.

Congratulations, that concludes your first battle, so let's go back to Exploration mode. You all get 130 xp and one hero point.

Also I would like to take the moment to say that I am happy that I picked you and that you have been doing great so far.

As you can hopefully see on the map, there is really only one way into the structure unless you want to get creative.

Well, I know I said I'd keep recruitment open until Sunday, but it looks like the thread is rather buried by now, and I am happy with the submissions I have gotten so far, so here goes. I have to say that it was a tough decision but I have picked a party of four. The rest of you are very welcome if and when a further spot opens up.

Not all heroes are named yet but I'd like to welcome the following players to the discussion thread (in no particular order):

Tarondor
Dorian 'Grey'
John Woodford
Lord of Rust.

The tree suddenly stops in its tracks and turns to stare at Eianar, awaiting his command.

End of combat. 160 xp to you each. And congratulations to Eianar. :)

You get 133 xp each for interacting with the other adventurers.

I realized that you should be on medium progression, and shouldn't be levelling up anytime soon, but this is where a four-person party is expected to level up and you haven't exactly breezed through encounters, so never mind.

The next day you are ready to set out, and you pick up your next assignent from the Grand Mausoleum. The second site is a walled, twostory
mansion with surrounding grounds, which the Pharasmins believe belonged to some minor nobility of the city. It is marked on your map so it will be easy to find.

Any last minute preparations or are you good to go?

Fleur declares the room safe from traps, so I'll just list your findings.

The sarcophagus is covered in gold leaf (worth 100 gp), if you want to take the time to scrape it off. Inside is Akhentepi's mummy, wearing an exquisitely crafted funerary gold mask, worth 500 gp. In one chest is a masterwork set of padded armor, that you recognize from the carvings. In the other chest is a disintegrating cloth sack filled with 500 gp, as well as a small, well-preserved darkwood coffer worth 50 gp. Inside the coffer are two potions, an ornate lapis and carnelian pendant worth 70 gp, and an assortment of carnelian, lapis lazuli, and turquoise semiprecious stones worth a total of 55 gp.

With that you have found Akhentepi's true tomb. You can explore more if you like but you seem to have found the major treasure and you can consider your first mission completed if you wish to. For that you get 133 xp and one hero point.

I notice that your xp total is 1299. Too bad... Just kidding, you can go ahead and level up as soon as you return to town. Congratulations.

The bad news is that Fleur is nauseated and is restricted to a move action, so no alchemist's fire. The good news is that the magic that brought the swarm into existence expires. The beetles have one last nibble at Fleur (Luuther having escaped) for 4 points of damage, then disappear into thin air.

End of combat. You each get 133 xp for the swarm.

I know I will regret this, but I just have to DM this AP, and because of the nature of the first adventure, I think it can stand alone quite well, regardless of how it goes on.

So, I'm looking for five characters. As always, I invite you to look at my older game threads to see if you think you'd appreciate my DMing style, which is rather crude and old school. You're more than welcome to role-play among yourselves but I'm not very good at it. What I am better at is keeping the action running and remaining reasonably civil.

As I said, I'm looking for five characters, and I will reserve three spots for anyone that has gamed with me in the past and liked it, since that tends to reduce the risk of the game falling apart at an early stage. Other than that I will give priority to the first comers, that is, the first characters posted with some degree of detail. Apart from that I intend to be entirely arbitrary in my choices (but I'm looking for a balanced and resilient party).

All Paizo material will in principle be acceptable but I reserve the right to say yes or no on a case-by-case basis. I also prefer old-fashioned, simple characters before weird races and archetypes. I think the AP works very well with traditional adventurers and would recommend you to lean that way, unless you have a really good concept.

20 point buy, two traits, one of which should be from the Player's Guide, and use the Background option for skills. You can go for average starting gold or roll - if I can't trust you to roll, the game isn't going to work anyway.

I intend to keep the recruitment open for a week but I may close it early if I find five characters appealing and think that all my old friends have had time to see this thread. I apologize in advance for all the disappointment that I will cause, but I hope that five of you and myself are going to have a nice and gory game.

Haydar kicks the sandcreature into oblivion.

End of combat. 100 xp to you each.

There is a pair of double doors at the foot of the stairs. The tunnels are too small for you to squeeze through. There doesn't seem to be anything valuable or interesting lying about.

Xanthippe snorts. Are you deaf? We don't have any cold iron weapons except the sling bullets and you will hardly be able to afford them at 46 gp a piece." She storms into the smithy and starts to stoke the fire. The blacksmith apologizes profusely for his daughter but he can't really help you and advises you to come back in a day or two.

On the other hand, mistress Willowbark the apotecary is willing to sell you all the alchemist's fire you can afford and can carry. Will there be anything else before you set out?

I’ve wanted to try the Reign of Winter path for a long time and now the time has come. I’ve run a few campaigns on this forum – some more successful than others, so you may do well to look into some of the threads to see what kind of game I run. I like to see myself as crude but effective as a DM. I’m not great at roleplaying but I encourage it among players, which tends to work well in PBPs. My job is to keep the pace up and everyone happy as far as possible. With the right players, that has worked as a charm.

I already promised two spots to former players but the rest is basically up for grabs, but if you have played with me before and liked it (and you’re not in my Mummy’s mask game) I will give you preference. Other than that I will consider party balance and try to reward first comers, as well as character concepts that I like. What I like is simple. Preferably core races and not too weird classes, (I’d like to avoid the alchemist, magus and summoner, since they have a tendency to go nova). I’m looking for competent players but not optimizers. This isn’t going to be a high-powered campaign. I will be using the Background skill rules and the unchained Rogue.

20 point buy, two traits (one from the campaign guide) and average starting wealth (or you may roll for it if you prefer). Look to the campaign guide for what races, classes and archetypes might be appropriate. I’m also using a home variant of hero points, but we’ll get to that in time. Expected posting rate is once a day on weekdays. If you’re in combat and don’t post for 24 hours, you will be assumed to be delaying (or I’ll take your action for you if it is obvious). More posts are welcomed and I’ll try to post as much as I can, but I can’t promise more than once a day.

I’m looking for five characters so all submissions are welcome. I hope to be able to put a party together by the end of next week.

It is only a couple of days left until the grand opening of Wati’s necropolis for exploration (some would say plunder), and you are starting to grow nervous. The Order of the Stone still only sports three ill-assorted members, and other adventuring parties are tight-lipped and unwilling to part with any information, let alone share the potential spoils.

On this day you find yourselves – for your own reasons – in the very heart of Wati, the Sunburst Market, right in the center of the town, in the Midwife district. Colorful banners and tent throng between the orderly rows of pillars that demarcate the market space. One of these, known as the Pillar of Second Thoughts, sports a dozen of shriveled hands, the remains of previous violations of the sacred law of Abadar, upheld by the stern women known as the “Marketwives”.

Business is bustling and the whole town is abuzz with rumors, mostly about the coming opening of the necropolis, and here and there tempers flare as foreign merchants try to eke out a space among the native sellers. The scent of spices and rare goods that are being desperately peddled before the expected inflation, and of course the inevitable musty odor of people and animals crowded in a restricted space, fill the air, but most sharply the palpable sense of expectation makes itself felt.

Welcome Duriel; you're in.

I'm afraid I'm (obviously) going to have to disappoint most of the rest of you, but we may well need replacements later.

Lucendar and JAF0, I'd like to see your character concepts. We're still lacking a dedicated arcanist.

Well, it's Tuesday (I'm in Stockholm so I'm on CET in case anyone wonders). Thanks for the submission. I'm a little humbled by the effort you've put into this, but I still want a small game, so I am only taking three.

There is a real possibility, though, that I will find it expedient to expand the party or that someone drops out, so feel free to stick around, and I'll post here if there is an opening.

My choices are as much about my personal preferences and idiosyncrasies as anything, so I won't say I picked the best players or characters in any sense, just those I happened to like best for this purpose.

Without further ado and in no particular order I welcome to the discussion thread:

Nerandeth Ildelaren
Mim Oakenlegs
Worryn Ocera

Thanks again everyone.

Hi all. This may seem trite comparing to what most of you have to share, but tomorrow I'm moving in with my bf, which is a pretty big thing for me.

As Vug's bomb strikes the dragon, she realizes that it is under the effects of a mutagen, making it even more fearsome. Being grievously wounded already it roars in pain and anger (activating its Frightful Presence (Will DC 20 to resist) and tears into Valgrim with all its might, teeth, claws and wings, for a horrifying total of 103 points of damage.

The rest of you are up.

That is all.

I've just hit five month with mine. I gave him the pet name Leonal, because 1) it has the same rhytm as his proper name, 2) he's a Leo and 3) "nal" in Swedish sounds like "nalle" meaning teddybear, and that's what he is, a big, cuddly bear. Also the 3.5 Leonal is kind of hot. And of course 4) he's goodness incarnate. ;o)

Tristan finishes off the creature, stabbing it soundly in the chest area. "Whatever it was, I think we just made this place a little safer." There is a grim satisfaction in his voice.

Well, thanks to Hrakar there is now a map of the island with coordinates under Campaign info. Your camp is at F15. Yesterday you got as far as N8. Ishirou's map indicates a pirate's stash at M14 and the lighthouse is at S4, which is probably your best bet for an overview of the island. I hope that will facilitate your deliberations.

Tristan shrugs. "Gibberish. Hateful, evil gibberish. And a certain amount of violence of a dubious sort.". He pauses. "Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, though." He looks pleadingly at Lamsfel, hoping that he'll say something that would make the whole horrible affair make sense.

Tristan wipes his blade with studied nonchalance. "He is no better than the goblins", he mutters, leaving to the others to tend his wounds. To Tybus: "I don't know what he did, but there were sparks flying off his hands. Some sort of witchery, I suppose."

His large frame is shivering with excitement and emotion, although he struggles to remain calm.
