Tomorrow night's game will be my 5000th D&D/Pathfinder game session.
Gods, has it been that long? My love affair with D&D started back in 1974 and for a number of years, it was 5-6 game sessions per week. Over the years, I had to cut back due to family and work and relocation so that game sessions are 1-2 per week now.
40 years. My god, I been married less time than that with my wife and we celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary a few weeks ago.
So how do I know this is my 5000th session? Best guess really. Someone once asked me a few years ago how long I had been playing and how many game sessions that represented. That peaked my curiosity and since my game sessions are fairly regular with few cancellations, I calculated based on my play habits and what I can remember over 40 years.
Since that I made that calculation, I have kept track of play sessions and just recently, noted number 5000 was coming up and that number is tomorrow's session.
How many hours does that represent? My game sessions usually average 4 hours now and I can remember many weekenders when I first started that were all day affairs and 5-6 hour sessions were the norm for around the first 10 years, so I think 25,000+ hours is a fairly accurate (as accurate as I can be certain of since I haven't been tracking since the start)
Just thought I would share as it is certainly a milestone for me. Hopefully I will be around to post for session 7,500. Session 10,000 is probably impossible given my age but hey, why not aim for something.
A great 40 years it has been. And the memories. Thanks, Gary.
