Some last suggestions. There are a handful of Knight & Paladin classes for GH done up in LGJ (in Dragon & Dungeon). For example, Dungeon #113 has the Knights of Holy Shielding; #104 & Dragon #306 have lots of GH deity-specific paladins; Dragon #317 has "The Ranger Knight of Furyondy"; and Dragon #355 has a F/MU class called "Eldritch Warriors" (I haven't compared it to the Eldritch Knight). Also, I'm not convinced the Knights of Luna need to be F/MU's. Even Melf has only 4 levels of Wizard if I remember correctly. Though I do like elves as F/MU's personally. Knights of the Hart is the "triple order": Furyondy; Veluna; the High Forest (these are all elves). Though they are noted (LGG) as being compatible w/ the Knights of Luna in terms of mutual assistance. I think Eldritch Knight or Abjurant Champion work instead of a dedicated PrC for the Knights of Luna. There were some knightly Pr Classes done up in odd issues of the late, great (and sadly missed) Living GH Journal, but I don't remember Luna being one of them. EDIT: You might want to check out Canonfire to see if they've been statted up. Coridan wrote:
I like the idea. We currently have 6 modules per year; why not dedicate 3 of them to a minipath? Btw, the post-Kingmaker AP I believe is going to be set (or start) in The Shackles. And I think it'd be risky to have 3 adventures revolving around Alkenstar (similarly w/ Numeria), as while some of us would dig it, others would not. Best not to gamble on sales like that. Do you mean 2 inch by 2 inch for Large-sized creatures (3.5) or 2 inch by 1 inch...(3.0)? Just curious. I'm going to get this anyway, as the price can't be beat, but I'm a counter (Fiery Dragon) fanatic. Set wrote:
Excellent. I'm horrible at comparing and balancing classes, so you and Hydro are very helpful here w/ points of reference. I'll be all over the GR Holy Warrior if I need to do this for PF; though I'm still hoping Paizo does it for me (cue Carly Simon's "Noooooooobody does...it better...") ;-) Samothdm wrote:
Monte's "Champion" is exactly what I'm talking about (I have AE). I just think that it could be rebuilt so that the Paladin is ONE way to build the concept, but not the only way. For those who love Paladins, they lose nothing; for those who like the overall concept of a Divine Champion but want it more customizable, we win too! So win-win ;0 Samothdm wrote:
I have both of these products, but haven't devoted time to looking through them. If I end up doing my own homebrew class, I will certainly incorporate them. Thanks! Samothdm wrote: As for the classes in the upcoming Pathfinder book, I think I'd rather that Paizo focus on creating entirely new classes versus just "here's a whole bunch of non-LG paladins." I can pretty much do that myself. I'd really prefer totally new concepts and mechanics for classes. That's why I'm really excited about the Alchemist class. Well, I'm not good at crunch, so the "do it myself" is not my preferred option. But if I have to, I certainly will. Thanks for all your comments. M. Balmer wrote:
Start w/ Rise of the Runelords + Curse of the Crimson Throne, updating everything to PFRPG, and you've got a winner. It would be good to get all that stuff in 1 volume; whether it's every 2 adventure paths or even more. It'd keep the price down and be a great reference material. GentleGiant wrote: I also wish there was a gift certificate available to handle stuff like this, hopefully it'll be forthcoming eventually. I guess the easiest way to do it is through paypal transfers. I think the whole idea of gift certificates has been on Paizo's to-do list for a while, but I'm not sure when they'll get around to it. It is a great idea. And thanks for picking up on the spirit of this thread. I seem to have created something that's taken on a life of its own. Paizo, if you're reading this, I hereby pledge to give out 2 $50 gift certificates to select fans once you've implemented gift certificates. The following is for Paizo eyes only; don't look everyone else!!! Spoiler:
Give me a print version of Downer Volume 2 and I'll make it 10 $50 gift certificates! I was disheartened to see this thread had so many more posts than its counterpart. But then I read through it and saw how the majority of posts are the clerics & heavy armor debate raging once again. So now I feel better about this thread. I'm not downplaying the heated emotions this one debate continues to bring up, but I was a bit worried that there were a ton of (different) things people were complaining about. It will be a while before I get to fully read through the book, as I'm not done w/ 3.5 yet, but I'm sure by various postings and snippets I've read that there will be things I don't care for. But taken as a whole, my early impressions are quite favorable. To add to the thread's purported purpose: I don't like sneak attack working on undead and constructs, which I've stated elsewhere. I'm also not fond of the racial bonuses to attributes that make little sense to me, but that's ok, I don't have to incorporate anything I don't want to. People are free to take and use what they like. Paizo has been upfront about that from the beginning, I think. I already posted initial impressions in the other thread on this book, but had a few new thoughts. 1) Oracle remains a great concept but poor title for this class. My suggestion, YMMV: "Channeler". 2) As 1 of the 2 unnamed classes has been intimated to be the new Blackguard (or Anti-Paladin if they go old school w/ it), I'm really hoping they use this opportunity to blow open the whole concept of Paladins in general. To me, the Paladin is just one example of what a "Holy Warrior" could be, and why should only LG gods get to have such a champion (or CE gods get the obvious counterpart)? I put this thought aside until some years ago when, in Dragon #310 & #312, articles were written to explore all 6 good & evil alignments. Essentially, Paladin & Blackguard were given equivalent classes for the other 4 alignments. I put that thought aside for a future homebrew adjustment until just this past year. I then took the idea one step further. Really what D&D needs is a base martial/divine class that can encompass not only all alignments, but even basic domain-like concepts (e.g., war; strength; balance; etc.) New idea and suggestion for this 5th class: (Divine) Champion (I know Paizo likes the 1-word titles...). Why limit yourself to the Blackguard as a base class when you can expand out the idea behind Paladins & Blackguards to include everything I mentioned above? The versatility would be fantastic, and no longer would the default divine champions of yore be limited to the Arthurian hero/anti-hero. Why can't other gods have their own divine champions w/ completely different paradigms? Try imagining a divine champion for a god of magic, for example? To the horror of many on these boards who complained about clerics losing Heavy Armor proficiency, such a divine champion might look very different from a heavily armored paladin, even if the alignment was still LG. You get the idea. Krome wrote:
Krome, I think there's a thread in Product Discussion about a collection of 1-on-1 adventures (11?) converted to PFRPG. FYI. Jason Nelson wrote:
Just a small correction. 3.5 was still "build your own monster", but the "prebuilt monsters" came from Complete Psionic and the Ectopic Adept prestige class. Not everyone was a fan of this particular book, as you might have heard. Anyway, my 1st thought on hearing "Summoner" was pretty much yours. If they could translate the psionic Shaper class to an arcane Summoner class, I'd be quite happy. Rather than just an enhanced version of a wizard specializing in summoning. And D&D really does need an excellent Summoner class. Wes, I loved all your comments about how to flavor the many variations possible for a Summoner!!! Last note: yeah, Oracle is just a bad choice of words for this class, as many posters have already pointed out. I have a simple question, and apologize if the answer should already be self-evident, but... How did this company get permission to do a Warlock class? I assumed that since it was from a splat book, it was not OGL, and thus off limits. Clearly I'm wrong, but how exactly is the question? Thanks in advance. Thanks for the kind words everyone. lordzack, if by any chance you're still following this thread Spoiler:
my email server is strangely down, so I'll just tell you here: mailed today Priority Mail, so I'm thinking you should have it Saturday. Delivery confirmation # 0307 0020 0001 5462 0950. Enjoy, man! I'm very heartened to see this news, as I don't think Paizo's in any rush to address psionics. Nor do I think their heart's in it. As for reading through that 14 page thread Erik started about psionics, yeahhhh...I guess you could. I can only read through so many posts by people clearly ignorant of how 3.5 psionics worked w/out reaching for a stiff drink. Depressing. I didn't have the strength to try to stamp out the same old weak arguments over and over...kudos to those of you who stuck through it! Anyway, keep as close as possible to the 3.5 book, w/ obvious tweaks and errata, and a PFRPG upgrade, and you'll have a great product. Best of luck. BenS wrote:
Gah! Someone reminded me of Monte's great work w/ Arcana Unearthed/Evolved. So I'm going to make that a tie w/...crap, I don't know. The shades of difference are so slight it probably doesn't matter. Thanks for the responses, everyone. For those of you interested in a Blackguard that may or may not officially show up, I'd highly recommend getting a copy of Dragon #312 for the "Reavers of the Divine" article. It follows #310's "Champions of the Divine". Basically, the Paladin is just the LG version of 1 of 6 holy/unholy warriors; a fantastic idea to my mind. These are 3.5 so it wouldn't take much work to convert them over to PF. Ok, 5 potential winners, so a percentile roll coming up; the only way to be impartial about this: lordzack (1-20)
Drumroll...(rolls a 10). Congratulations lordzack! Now the tough part, having to say sorry to the others; wish I could afford copies for everyone who couldn't! :( lordzack, Spoiler:

@Krome, I did not know this in detail, so thanks. That sounds more hopeful than blanket immunities. I'll wait for the Bestiary to check this out more before making my final decision. And as delabarre indicated, not everyone was wrapped up in the Beta threads (I pretty much ignored them to be honest). So it was a surprising (and unwelcome) thing to read about. Don't descend on me like locusts, but, I accidentally bought a 2nd copy that I'd like to give as a gift to someone. Only a few preconditions: you must live in the U.S. (since I'll spring for the postage); I'd strongly prefer if I "know" you from the boards here (sorry lurkers!); and I have a few of you in mind already. My 2nd copy has a few creased pages (about 17 pages w/ 2 creases, about 15 pages w/ 1 crease); though this is not the reason I'm giving it away. Just want to be upfront about that. Nothing that interferes w/ legibility by any means; it's only an aesthetic consideration. I'll check in on this thread later tonight, and again tomorrow after work (Pacific Standard Time). If there's an easy way for me to choose (like rolling a D20, for example), that might be more fair than 1st come, 1st served. When I pick the winner, I'll do so here and post my email address so we can confirm the details. Good luck. Russ Taylor wrote:
Zombies are just 1 type of corporeal undead, though. I can't buy into it for all corporeal undead. To me, sneak attack remains believable only if it's closer to the old backstab; it's against a vulnerable organ or headshot on a corporeal, living creature. As for plant-type critters, I just don't see it, sorry. Anyway, I like D&D where certain classes shine in certain moments. As Beckett alluded to w/ undead (we've already got clerics and paladins for them). Hence the houserule comment. And now the obligatory "YMMV". As a player & DM, I like this being 1 big book. But. Most players are not DM's, and I'm curious why the decision was made to combine what has traditionally been 2 books into 1 book. If I were only a player, I would have a hard time w/ this book being my only option. I haven't made up my mind on a PFRPG "lite" book yet, so no comment... Gene wrote:
Ok, I just spent an inordinate amount of time looking through every page. Twice (I accidentally ordered 2 books. D'oh!) In the 1st copy, I see what you're saying. Pages 161-169 have 2 creases; pp. 170-184 only 1 crease; and 185-192 back to 2 creases. Nothing too terrible. In the 2nd copy, very small, single crease on pp. 317-320. So I guess there's no pattern. Even if I only had the 1st copy, I'd be fine w/ it. I'm more worried about the binding holding up over the years to come. I think, unlike my separate PHB & DMG books for 3.5, it'll be harder to keep this book pristine throughout its lifetime. joela wrote:

I think ultimately it was my own mistake. I had assumed that the pre-order from 3/08 would be cancelled when I ordered it later, but that must be only for the RPG sub line, which I haven't picked up. My bad. I'll find a home for it no doubt. Thanks. MrFish wrote:
Yes. The pyramids & gone-for-millennia angles work perfectly. Sounds like you have things well in hand, thanks to Rezdave, one of the unsung heroes on these boards. As for the book itself, I'm sure Wes did a bang up job; a real labor of love. Can't...wait... The following products are included in this shipment:
I responded to the email, but since this is about to ship I'm going to post it here as well. I believe there's an (expensive) error in this order, and that is the 2nd copy of the PFRPG. I only ordered one copy as far as I know; it's the PF sub that gets 2 copies (properly noted above). Thanks. MrFish wrote:
I don't have any real suggestions, but partly b/c I'm confused as to what's going on here. Are the 1200 troops the undead invaders? Or defenders to fight them off? In either case, what about those sweet, high-level "doomsday" options the Cult of the Crafters has by sacrificing the high priestess (elemental rampage, I'm looking at you)? Just a few days ago I wrote up something about the Ethergaunts (Fiend Folio) returning to the Prime plane after their 10,000 year absence. I made Exag one of their former bases on Oerth. This may or may not give you some ideas (i.e., they attempt to reclaim it by force). Christopher West wrote:

Well, don't you need access to nearby mountains? That might rule out Zeif, though Tusmit has the Yatils on the eastern border. Ull might even work if you had more settled cities/towns than appear on the map. Then you could use the Ullsprue Mountains and the Barrier Peaks ;-) Or you could just make it a pre-Twin Cataclysms campaign and plop it somewhere in the Dry Steppes near the Crystalmist Mts and/or the Sulhaut Mts. Dungeon #118, "Shadow of the Abyss", takes place in a fortification in Sterich (Greyhawk) taken over by giants, w/ a dragon to boot as an ally. Something like a historical adventure with important NPCs, or an all-goblin adventure, or something? If the pregens were used in an historical adventure, it wouldn't matter to me if they were important NPCs or not. It would just be cool to adventure in the mythic or legendary past! But I'm not personally interested in the PCs-as-monsters idea. If you can create the Golarion equivalent of traveling back in time through Greyhawk's Tovag Baragu (just for example, helping lead one of the Suel imperial houses into the Flanaess before the Twin Cataclysms hit)--and I'm thinking the Azlanti period would be perfect for this, or maybe a battle leading up to the imprisonment of the Whispering Tyrant--you've sold me! EDIT: Half the attraction of this kind of module is not even playing the pre-gens; it's getting an in depth look at mythic history of which we have only tidbits in "modern" products like the Campaign Setting. This would be key to marketing it, as people who wouldn't buy a published adventure per se would still love a look-see into Golarion's past. I would definitely buy the cut chapter on Elysium. I wish this had been a larger module, but the line is fixed at 32 page adventures so I'm out of luck. Well, until I get that next 10 pp ;-) Love the title on the cover; very pulp-like in its Weird Tales way. Glanced through the module to get the general idea. Flavor text is off the charts cool. I did have a few crunch questions, though. References are made to Hydrodaemons et al. from Tome of Horrors Revised and so not statted up. But I don't own that book. Can I hope to see these creatures in the PF Bestiary? Otherwise, how do we stat them up? The Meladaemon is one nasty critter; Todd would be proud. But the references to Slimy Doom as a special attack are not explained. Is this some sort of poison or disease statted up in the upcoming PFRPG? Thanks. hedgeknight wrote:

Ok, looking at Fiendish Codex 1, p. 8, on Death either "outside" or "within" the Abyss, along w/ sidebar on "Demonic Death Throes". From this, I can extrapolate to all Outsiders. It's clear that summoned outsiders return to their home plane when either the spell ends or they are "slain". My scenario did not involve a summoned Arcanaloth, but one that was indeed not on its home plane. The text suggests the body MIGHT return to the home plane, but it might also remain behind (see example 20 under "Death Throes"). Regardless of what happens to the body, though, the "essence" gets sent back to the home plane. So. I'm thinking that the essence survives, to a point, but the body could remain physically behind. In which case so do its items. I'm going w/ that; the bastard was incredibly tough to kill and I think the characters deserve the spoils of war ;-)
