Encouraged by Stiggy’s success, Beldan full-attacks with his rapier.
“Damned troll. Just like them to turn up, cause a ruckus, then disappear ... I’ll see if I can see it.” Sneak to J26 and peer around the corner. Stealth: 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (13) + 33 = 46 Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35 "Eeek! Warn a man before you send spiders like that past him Altai ... oh, you did ..." I think I figured out why I am so lost in this fight ... I made a map at work, left it there, then made another one at home. The one at home I put the numbers going down the page rather than up, switching between them I have been getting very lost with everyone’s position. Anyway, I think I just moved Beldan real close to a giant earth elemental. Don’t want to be there! Make his position hiding in A26. Beldan, healed up by Hnoss’s magic, sneaks across to E24 (around the pit) 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (13) + 33 = 46, putting his finger to his lips as he passes the slave-dwarves, then looks and listens for sound or sight of the hidden troll. Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30 with 60 foot darkvision. Got another action depending on what he sees or not. I’ve been trying to update my map on and off over half the day and can’t figure out what’s where, what’s alive, what’s dead … anyway … Beldan, mashed by the dinosaur, confused by all the appearing, disappearing, hitting and dying, and not able to hit anything with his crossbow, doesn’t much feel like getting down and dirty with any of the bad guys left standing at the moment. He whispers softly to his companions, “Troll’s around the corner,” and slinks back into the shadows 5 foot step to A19, carrying stealth result of 50 from last round. Draw a potion of cure moderate wounds and drink it down for 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (7, 1) + 3 = 11 Beldan sneaks out to B9 Stealth: 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (17) + 33 = 50 then levels and unloads his crossbow at the wounded translucent skinned dude in E15 in what is hopefully a sneak attack. 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19 Damage: 1d8 + 11 + 1d6 + 7d6 ⇒ (5) + 11 + (5) + (6, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 3) = 46 plus 6 bleed plus 2 strength. If they’re resistant to electrical that is the 1d6 in there. “Whoa, that’s a lot of bright spells …” Beldan grabs the edge of his cloak then flies across the cavern (avoiding AoO’s from the behir and the urdefhans if he can, if the behir has enough reach to get him he’ll hope for the best) and land to hide under the petrified behir in A17. Stealth: 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (6) + 33 = 39 Map's at work, so need to re-figure where everyone's at. Might take me a bit - and going out for lunch soon. Reflex save 1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24
Beldan dodges nimbly aside from the lightning blast, ducks as the fireball explodes overhead, then uses the fading light of the energy attacks to see where the guys who shot at him got to. Beldan sneaks forward to the corner with whoever else is coming that far. Once they are in place and ready to act, he sneaks further into the room to D10 with his crossbow ready and loaded, keeping an eye out to see if he is noticed. Stealth: 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (20) + 33 = 53, Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23 Once in place he’ll fire at the lizard in ABC 16-18: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15 Damage: 1d8 + 7 + 6d6 ⇒ (1) + 7 + (6, 6, 3, 3, 6, 1) = 33 plus 1d6 ⇒ 1 electricity if they’re not immune, plus 6 bleed plus 2 strength damage. Initiative: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12 EDIT: his stealth check to remain hidden after the attack is 33. Sounds good. I want to get in a surprise round crossbow attack, which means I’ll need to get to about row 10. Should be able to manage it in the dark with a good stealth roll, depending on what sort of senses these things have. How much light are the dwarves helmets putting out?
Beldan tiptoes back to the others and whispers. “There’s a bunch of depressing dwarf-looking fellows with pick axes and lanterns on their heads hacking away at the walls. About ten of them. Then theres two things that look like big lizard, dragon things but with lots of legs, clinging to the walls. Each of them have two riders. Ah, and kind of in the middle of the place theres this dome of shimmering energy.” Did I see what the lizard riders were? Were the dwarf guys shackled or anything? Was the hald-globe of energy on the floor – like a dome rising up from the floor? Beldan heads back to the main group, on foot, scanning the passage for traps Perception: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27 as he goes. When he gets back he reports, “passage seems clear ahead for at least 100 feet or so, around a few twists and turns. Then I heard something. Yeah, maybe miners Altai … I don’t know what a ninja is to be honest. It sounds like it’d be pretty pansy though, throwing stars around like that. Does it throw rainbows and unicorns as well? Anyway, we’ll head back to where I got to and then I’ll scout ahead again.” So Beldan will head towards where he heard the sound, on foot this time: Stealth: 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (19) + 33 = 52, Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33 (extra +4 for traps) At the bellow, Beldan sighs. “I guess I’ll scout ahead,” he says. He grabs the edges of his cloak and turns into a bat, then flaps off down the corridor to scout ahead. Stealth: 1d20 + 37 ⇒ (5) + 37 = 42 Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30 (further +4 for traps). He has darkvision and blindsense in this form. Alright, I had lost my map and didn’t realise that just about everyone had moved into melee range already. Can we retcon a little, say that Beldan took his turn last round to move to G15? That way, Pip’s haste spell can get Bel, Altai, Gjetost, Elgan and Claw (I think Stig, Hnoss and Vilya were already affected by Altai’s spell – either way we’ve got pretty much the whole group now. THIS round, Beldan tumbles (acrobatics: 1d20 + 27 ⇒ (20) + 27 = 47 to G11, and, flanking with Vilya, makes a sneak attack with his rapier: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (5) + 23 = 28 Damage: 1d6 + 4 + 7d6 ⇒ (1) + 4 + (4, 4, 4, 2, 4, 5, 6) = 34 + 6 bleed + 2 strength damage. I kinda miss ol' Riese ... I mean he was as bossy as all hell, but at least when he was around people didn't start looking at me for leadership ... I know I'm going to mess up sooner or later ... “Whoa ...” Beldan, in the process of climbing down into the room, opts for discretion as the better part of valour, and scrambles for a hiding spot amongst or beside the pile of bones that lead down into the room. Looking for a hiding space, maybe in the shadow of the bone pile at about G24 if that will suit. Stealth: 1d20 + 33 ⇒ (14) + 33 = 47 Beldan, having a much easier time balancing on the ‘window’ ledge than the giant, fishes his fifty foot length of silk rope from his pack. “Here Gjetost, hold one end of this,” he says, and, once the giant does so, tosses the other end down for the rest of the group to climb up. “Lean back and brace against the wall above the opening,” he advises the giant, then looks through the window with his goggles of night, keeping an eye out for danger as the others climb up. Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24 “Alright ... well thanks. Sorry again about your sons. Guess we’ll be on our way out now ...” Beldan begins backing out of the cabin, uncomfortable talking to this giant one-eyed seeress who has taken the murder of her fourteen sons so calmly. “Where too next chums?” he asks. “Straight for the trolls, or do we check out the standing stones?”
