Review (though maybe impression is more apt) posted.

I got distracted and missed the drop of this. but with my station back in order, i have to say this book will definitely get use out of me. Onslaught Blaster (love the name now), Legendary Kineticist, and the Nihilicist really appeal to me.

just to verify, the additional +1 damage from the ability that require activation at the front of them for the Onslaught Blaster (like Excessive blast) are not passive themselves, right? I highly doubt they are, but stacking all those damage bonuses would be sweet. I'm sad I can't have an Onslaught Nihilicist, but I can easily see why. that hwole concept of propelling nothingness is... just awesome in ideal.

Echoing on the Legendary Kineticist itself. This thing is a must-have for anyone who can use it. it's a +1 for me just for how much it smoothes out. I may be a single element Kineticist, but I may finally shelf that just because of some of these changes.

So I just started poking around on this on behalf of a friend, and I have to admit, I am intrigued to see where this goes. Especially if there is some improv weapon (Ranged I hope? please?) and more crafting support within it later on. what really caught me so far is the Blacksmith (not my favorite craftsman class published, but ranks decently, a few gripes about it... still currently prefer the Artisan, but I may shortly be giving it a test in a gestalt to make a proper Dwarven Runesmith.), the Striker, along with the open hand, equipment, and shield spheres (such unarmed and shield support, neat tidbits for some of my favorites weapons including crossbows. YAAAAY!). this stuff on attack actions I'm not so hot on, but I see where some synergies can lie. the barrage sphere didn't hit for me yet, but I see a lot of possibilities overall. and i hear there's more spheres to come? I better keep a close eye on this.

hmm. also, is there anything for alchemical stuff planned? maybe splash weapon oriented? i hit a snag on a build plan with that recently...

...I think im gonna have fun with this one, once i can get around to it. Turing Computation just sounds plain good... and a whole nother KINETICIST ELEMENT!!!

*turns and breaks some glass for effect*

I am intrigued.

Thanks for the review, Bdrone! The trickshot sniper went through quite a few revisions, and while I'll admit it is a little 'gamey' at points, I'm still a fan of how it turned out. The Talented Tactician was based off of both arcanist style casting (which I love) and the 3.5 Archivist with its dark knowledge class feature. Also obviously the Tactician from Fire Emblem: Awakening, as the sword/spell fighting style was designed with that in mind.

*sigh* the Sniper and me are in an odd place. Had I seen it a few months ago, before I went further off my spliced campaign deep end, I think I would have loved it a lot more. personally I wish the class had been designed around using it in a grit-like (perhaps) or X per Encounter (more my favorite) basis, with time outside of it if one of those shots is needed out of combat. maybe even feats to improve the number of special shots, or trading actions to "re-arm". some of my suggestions are no less better I know, but im use to those over "okay, you have X for this period. make 'em count" for a class which abilities speak more to preparation, or even a nonmagical version of Artificer trickery. when i was talking the class over with a friend, the special ammo design honestly set me on a mini-rant about the topic of such effects, and I don't even know why.

but the basic ideas are quite sound. Guns with it may be an early cost issue, though, unless I forgot one of the what feels like tons of vigilante talents. the rest of the weapon support is awesome though. yay for Crossbows!

The Talented Tactician is... interesting. as a fan of the 3.5 Archivist due to Dark Knowledge (i love skill checks doing combat things, as well as the idea of research being that helpful), i immediately saw the connection. The casting didn't hit quite as well. definitely arcanist like, but I got a bit confused between the bard and the magus bits in the casting explanation. at the time of the review I was more taken by dark knowledge and the customization options available then the spell list, though. I've danced with magic, but beyond crafting i don't really get along with it very well. while i didn't get the Fire Emblem bit either, It does add to the design- though i prefer hitting people WITH books and improv weaponry more and more these days.

0_0! I've wanted to see the Trickshot Sniper for sometime. this is going to be interesting indeed...

1. The LK is thankfully something people seem to like, and I think it makes for a much better experience in play, although I've gone into detail about that above.

Agreed. while i remember some of the original drafts for something like this, think ill put this version to use when i play a Kineticist in the future.

2. For mind, part of me wants to add more stuff to it, but at the same time, it's sitting at nearly 100 talents already, and it's a dangerous balance to try to add more due to diluting what we already have. I think the mind element is pretty self contained, which is why I've chosen not to expand upon it.

huh. i wasn't keeping count, but... 100 already? well, at that point, fair enough i suppose. there's other focuses im sure could use more attention. it IS plenty sweet as is- one of my favorites.

3. For the onslaught sniper, this was something where I kind of went style over substance here...

For damage, you're not the only one who's had this concern. Some of the testers at PFG actually ran the numbers on it for physical and energy blasts, and originally before the most recent update, it was being beaten out by the base class, which is why the 'for every two blast, you do +1/+3 damage) clause was added. I'm probably going to return the +1 damage per blast to the metakinesis substitutes too, because it almost certainly needs it.

Something it also does is allows you to make a hell of a cool display with form infusions, as you can snake each one as well as tagging each one with singularity or mobile blast too, creating one hell of a mine field for people to enter. Considering you can even put them in the air too (as far as I'm aware), this is really an archetype for battlefield control as much as it is damage, as there's a lot of sick things you can do as long as you use your infusions intelligently.

I can admit that I'm still tinkering with the numbers here, and I think I'll be adding some damage to it, but as a whole, it's an archetype intended for some fun battlefield control and sick visuals; and I myself love style.

well, you did succeed on the raw style. i was reminded of the many flurries of attacks from both DBZ and even a bit of OPM. that said, i may have been one of the folks requesting more ranged related stuff. heck, i remember counting up feats like follow-up blast with kinetic Accel just to see how high i could sling a damage blast. that said, does kinetic acceleration synergize with Focused Blaster? just came to me.

the thing i found most positive overall is no doubt the infusion tapping, though i had to push past an explosion-field first to get there. Mind mass Stupify felt pretty good- thus why the name feels off at this point. all that spectacle is the opposite of a sniper in my eyes. but hey, i just set 8 people on fire in one turn.

its definitely good to hear the damage tweaks are still inbound. right now it just.. seems off even if the damage hadn't been, and i couldnt let it pass without my 2 teef-err, copper on that one (get outta my head, Orks!). there's clear breakpoints where when shooting everything at one target means your.. essentially trying to force the max base damage + setting off the extra beam rules, if im reading it right. if i can go nuclear and fire more dakka then a mob of Shoota Boyz, It should feel like it... least that's how i see it. that reading comes off better than what i thought before i penned the last post, but... agh, we'll see how it goes.

Thanks for the clarifications. ill be watchin'.

so ive been reading the PDF and wondering about this a bit. ive not had much luck forming what i feel are really good question so.. ill just go with what i have.

the majority of my focus right now is on mind focus, the onslaught sniper, and the Legendary Kineticist. with the LK i have no real issue. interesting change to the effects of burn, but a change I fully expected- after the kinetic Shinobi i'd been musing about how similar Ki and Burn seem to be so it didn't blow me away that the HP change happened here. im more happy about the QoL improvement of autoscaling saves. that was needed.

on Mind Focus I was hoping for more infusions and utility talents, but then it was one heck of an offering of that during their first apperance. I suppose I can't feel bad about that.

but Onslaught Sniper. I was waiting to see this since i got a glimpse of the name. ive been puzzling on this one for awhile, because on the surface it looks like the kind of class far up my alley... but im just not feeling it. something feels off. can i ask the intent of the archetype?

From what i gather the initial concept seems cool- splintering a blast so you can spread it out over an area or a number of targets. it's a cool spectacle, which pushes for more debris as you can lob even more and more fire in exchange for other class features. alternative names like "Roiling Wave" or "Havoc Spreader" came to mind clearer than the classes own name do, because after time kicking around the class the ability to in one action spread out an infusion over several targets is an awesome touch and is the part i like most, even down to trading metakinesis Maximize so when i have to shoot only one target the saves they have dip low. but im not feeling the Onslaught Sniper on the damage front. and i can't tell if im wrong or right on that.

A lot of it comes from the.. well i was going to say weaker, but.. Odder feels more correct single target Damage in comparison to a standard kineticist. that thought stems from that part about taking only a max of damage from where a normal kineticist could work with the same tier of blast was added (and today i looked to see someone try and reword that one... and that's what i got out of it, and until just now i thought even worse of it). I know that parts under contention right now, so i guess this is me adding my voice to it. ill admit i don't recall each way to improve damage for a blast now, but between the once per targets on additional damage (including con mods) rule recently added, no damage-usable metakinesis or standard elemental overflow damage, and how for energy specifically has a hard time catching back up to lost overflow damage on one target (using composite blast, 20 energy shots into one target yields +9 extra damage. a minor thing perhaps, but still...), in the end once your down to the last target the you just can't turn the extra fire on them in the same way feels so wrong.

the fact i just realized while writing this out what that line intends to do just confused me. Whatever the case, i know i don't like it.

oh wow. thank ya Endzeitgeist! ill admit that your commentary on some books has been what led me to get them. i usually have a bit of an issue putting together reviews, this one felt more off the cuff and natural to do than some others i never finished. im glad you liked it- thank ya!

the book is an amazing for certain, and the news of more im incredibly happy for. i LOVE harvesting anyway- i can't wait to see what comes next!

My excitement can't be contained to see whats next in the tank.

Lets see what we have here, so on the first read over...

out of the archetypes on call, the Energy Roper intrigues me. maybe I love Grapple checks a bit much or something, but it does appeal and based on this pass it looks like it'll do quite well in that field. I mean as a castlevania fan whip like stuff intrigues, and making a "whip" out of acid, or BONE and lassoing someone is awesome in itself. Grappling utilities feat access looks nice, though im not sure how often id employ it yet. some of the Roper Talents put a smile on my face. like Natural Grappler (i thought of a Frog for some reason.) seems like i could also just whip it good if i wanted. sweet.

of the new composite blasts, Afterburn immediately stood out. without mind element stuff (LK 2 maybe?) i find myself soldily in Air, Time, Sound and Fire, so this blast was a surprise. so its more expensive but harder to dodge than blue flame, plus leaves a trail- cool! I enjoy how a lot of these are more expensive then the standard composites, but have little stitched on tricks like flashbang and Prismatic.

the realization just occured to me i can mimic swat 4 with a misaimed flashbang blast... hehehe!

over in Infusions, modified bloody and especially flurry of blasts made me happy to see. maxed out flurry reminded me of all the Dragon Ball Z abriged ive been watching. I assume being hasted with greater flurry creates 3 more bits to the light show? not sure when id use it, but I'd be lying if i said i didn't picture a fire kineticist lobbing tons of shots.

in the utility talents, first of all- thank you. Airs Overarching Reach made me giddy. if anything for any future kinetic shinobi or gestalt I build with throwing as a key piece of it's puzzle. Complete Circuit seems interesting, but... it didn't catch me as much as sonic/building reverberation. in both cases, i like Simple versatility, since i err with physical blasts usually. Fire Explosive fury? not bad when you REALLY have to push it, though im unsure.

But for some reason I'm most giddy about time specifically. between Failsafe, the Time Echo series, and most importantly for me, Focused Celerity. Air and time always stood out because of celerity and kinetic acceleration- but with this i can self buff it AND dig out kinetic Accel? Yowza! while i haven't looked into it yet, im sure their also some great boons in the Advanced Kinesis... but im still stunted on magic understanding, so ill leave that for someone else to pick over.

Mutations- Arrow Mutation seems Really good. and yet im wary about taking it. good sign of a mutation? Furyshaper Mutation sounds intriguing, if anything to set peoples blood on fire, but im not sure id go down that road. sadly, nope on the Utilitarian. just not my style.

FEATS- oh boy!one of the things I love in books is when I find a little gem for another class I like that I didn't expect to see. Legendary Vigilante's handed me a bit of unarmed combat in feat and items. this one- bomb stuff. the time bomb and remnant feat series each have a little something for that "haha, i set you up!" type of person. although.. parties gonna probably not like ya for dropping caltrops about the place. but its worth it to hear an enemy jab themselves on some sometimes. The kinetic Grapple series here is also a solid help- plus kinetic coils is amusing in a sense...

But. Mutable composition. it's so simple but its one of my favorite things in this book. im a hardnose for physical damages because of one day my first little alchemist hopped up on acid and fire got jumped by dretches and didn't have the proper back up... plus the party got clouded and i was the only one standing able to fight. oopsie. This one feat makes me happier just because if i make my checks and know the target is immune to electricity while im on an Air kineticist for example, i can still shift the strength on the Thunderstorm blast towards its blunt end, and put more pain on them that way, while ALSO being able to put even MORE pain to vulnerable targets. it just makes so many of that particular type of blast more viable to me. Thank you so much for that.

and the magic items. Pressuring seems interesting, but i don't have a lot to say about it. the Disc of Rainbow tears sounds relatively interesting, but it seems like that ones better for the Elemental Avatars and dual energy ones. i don't know if its better than gathering power for me... how much damage would that add? its interesting either way. and the Ring of Condensing explosions. HEHEHEE. so it provides a great feat for the splash weapon folks out there, specifically to the folks who can't normally use that feat, a few times per day unless it's the specific model, which then works a great number of times. I'M IN!

I really like some of the things I'm seeing here. didn't specifically blow the socks off for me like the Armory in KOP 2, or the unveiling of brand new elements over the first 2 books, but its a worthy addition to the collection in my eyes, and definitely adds some nice stuff to swipe.

*swipes the ring of condensing explosions, runs off cackling*

Still awaiting confirmation from Paizo after emailing and following up with a few calls. still having the issue with this PDF, but I'm posting to report i also have the same issue with Ultimate Composition which i just bought. it to is mostly unreadable.

Also picked up the Armjack from Purple duck at the same time, and it's looking just fine. I don't know whats causing it, but ive only seen the problems these 2 times.

...and that makes 2 very intriguing classes.

While ive not yet had a chance to mess with Spellburst Savant, it has changed my thoughts on magic a tad with how it works, and it still makes me giddy to think about. But now we also have the Avowed.

I really like this style of class, and this angle of it is intriguing to me. i hope to see a lot of Pacts- because the way they modify the character in question i find intriguing if they will progress in ways like the Fiend pact we have here.

making the shapes have multiple tiers based on selection was an angle I really liked, as well as splitting the shapes up from the clauses and moving what appears to be modulations there. while the clauses felt about right when i read them, the shapes are what stole the show for me thus far- there's a number of good ways to modify your blast's vector of use, but being the ranged fan i am, Aether Barrage, Aether circus, Aether Swarm and Aether Rounds in particular stand out. doesn't make me as excited as the Savant did, but i do like this.

Thank you for the clarification. it is definitely a class i want to use. with the normal version im already focusing on a starspray centric character. Gun Witch? well, just plain fun times because of what it does in general. I may not work with magic much, but the metamagic and even general spell breakdown and manipulation is impressive as is. i can arcane cast in armor if I want to change out somatics or circumvent certain other situation. oh no, can't vocalize? change it.

and then i noticed you can even trapfind with this class, while doing everything ELSE i want. cheering now!

So i just stumbled onto this class and.. first read through, i have to say, i love it. the ability to breakdown and modify magic the way they do has makes me intrigued compared to other stuff i have seen.

im a bit confused on the Fundamental spells, but in all honesty after reading the Bullet Storm with Starspray im loving just the idea of running a standard one and blasting up a room. im not entirely sure how many times per day we get to cast the fundamental, but the substitutions really are neat in general. barrier melding, vital strike linking... just plain sweet.

but what has me a bit giddy is the Gun Witch. almost reminds me of Marisa Kirisame. i love the gun synergy here, which it seems like you can add on intriguing effects based on the moment, and feat selection. it has all the makings of what i want in a ranged class- plus it maintains spells very well! this is definitely something i like- the arts a great touch as well.

okay, this is really weird.

So i just bought and downloaded this file (i'm usually noti nto casters, but i want to see what this has to offer, specifically around Ebisu.)

but I can't read the text in the pdf file. the script inside it is all over the place and not making any sense.

also rather than requotes...

-i see your angle with masked Grappling now. ill have to wait and see how i get my beloved cruiserweights to pan out.

-DDS did it? oh dear. WELP, im gonna haveta look into that. they didn't steer me wrong with the Artisan...

-Fair enough on the Attitude Era. i didn't get started until much later, and i was still in dormancy on wrestling until season 1 of Lucha underground. now i regularly watch it, TNA impact and Ring of honor. id watch NJPW as well if i had a means. masked Wrestling just... clicks for me REALLY hard, but these groups have airs i like.

-Where did the Trickshot Sniper get moved to? I smell tricky range and I am intrigued! your probably Right id love it just because of that. as much fun as unarmed is, range is my home.

Since we know it has so much support, if/when we get around to LK II, I'll talk to Onyx about throwing in some more Canti support.

WEEEEEHEEEEEEEEHEEEEE!!!!! <YES,PLEASE!>

N. Jolly wrote:
What can I say, I love flashy combat. That and unarmed strikes. Masked Grappler was a lot weaker before the playtest, a lot of feedback helped it become a lot cooler.

Masked Grappler with regard to damage im unsure on- on style, on control? VERY slick. who doesn't love some flash to their combat. its... surprising for me to not be going on about ranged combat for once. actually, is any range on offer in these books of particular note?

N. Jolly wrote:
You know, as much as I love selling a product, I love selling someone on Ippo just as much. It's a seriously great shonen sports anime with a great feel. Ippo himself plays as a brawler, while his rival (SCOFF) plays more like a counter puncher, and I'm glad I kept them split since some people thought there shouldn't be the two different specializations here.

both sides have something to REALLY want. Cross Guard is sweet combined with study, but then who doesn't like gaining monk elements with a class thats unarmed? its an annoying choice to make, but a difference in style as well. I like it. ive not looked at a newer Anime in sometime- i may have to check Ippo out now for certain- this rival specfically.

We're the second published, but we're the first to begin work on it. It's a hard concept to do in a game like this, but I'm pretty proud of how it turned out.

Wait. who published a concept like this as well? the only other time ive seen anything like this was a PF homebrew. whatever the case, it makes me grin with glee to see it.

N. Jolly wrote:

Trust me, if I could have gone for more recent moves while still keeping the same vibe, you'd have seen Twist of Fate neckbreakers, Angle slams, Pedigrees, and Tombstones. The closest I got to 'modern' wrestling was the stunner (I originally wanted to call it the SC stunner, but I thought that was too on the nose), but I'll admit I probably could have done more than just one splash.

I can see the issue there, and I'll probably work on fixing that in LV: Villains which is coming out soon enough (it's still in playtest), and I'd love to add some more recent wrestling techs too.

hmm, so you would have gone for some Hardys, Kurt, Triple H, and Undertaker in there? ahh, solid choices but have you heard the word of Pentagon JR (or even EC3? hehehee)? i just realized how ubiquitous the Undertaker is to piledrivers. personally, glad to see the stunner, but yes, do more of the splashes- im glad for the Frogsplash though.

Thank you for that and if you do it, the singing/instrument playing as a weapon as well. a dex based Masked grappler could really use a work around against that dex penalization so they may high fly and lucha that much better!

N. Jolly wrote:
I'm glad you liked it, and if you have time, I and those who worked on this would appreciate a review. And make sure to check out the Legendary Villains: Vigilante playtest, there's a lot of interesting ideas there too!

I still owe a few different reviews, to be honest. things have been really slow and uncertain here, so apologies for that. i CAN say i will go check out the playtest however- in fact thanks for the Warlock items in it. although i could still use a range extender if possible- never feels right if i can't have a range shot get a good 50-60 feet (increment if possible) a air.

Jason Nelson wrote:
It *sounds* like something awesome. :)

hehehe. its what made me shout Cantikinesis to the heavens- it brought the mechanics and flavor close enough together to let me play an instrument/sing and attack people whenever i wanted with my lyrics or tones- albeit in the form of a kinetic blast. bonus points for it allowing any kineticist element. you'd think in worlds with so much stuff coming out of the seams, you'd find such things more often, but no. I'm now at 2 out of... shoot, who knows how many classes that work music, but not that way.

as such if such a thing happens, ill be glad to hear of it, but enough about what could be. i just gave the book a few reads. I have to say, the Masked Grappler and Dynamic Fighter won my attention the most in this one- not to mention the feat/talent/item support for the unarmed style here. the Lyricist is good, but the only thing that really sang to me was Lyrical Duel out of its unique options- people are gonna need a LOT of Burn salve for that one.

the Dynamic fighter feel great both ways to me- every time I think I prefer one style, the other pulls me back juust a tad. it puts me an that odd "Eye of the storm" sort of feeling. i may have to watch Hajime no Ippo now, because im loving this vibe! normally i dont comment on art, but the art around that entry was perfect for me. minor editing issue- Vacuum Fist refers to Mercurial Duelist.

now, the Masked Grappler. this is pretty well scouted, and im enjoying the concept. the way it handles damage is.. intriguing and i haven't quite got my head into it, but its hallmark is the control elements. like wrenching a solid anklelock. hahaha. the timing around techinques and submissions im a little unsure on, but its another published first (2nd overall) to see a concept this involved into the idea- credit for the attempt!

3 concerns- first is least serious- MOAR OF THIS! i want more moves! can i get a Suicide dive? can we make it a superkick party? how about a 630 degree Senton? hehe, had to get that out- that stuff is doable with what we get so far. next up a mini-rant- Hurricanrana's only Disorient? that surprises me. not only is that move part of a takedown family (usually throwing people to the ground when ive seen it done in the X-divison, Ring of Honor, or Lucha Underground) but in looking stuff up for this response, I found out it often bridges into a pinning move. it being kind of a common move between the high fliers and agile wrestlers... im a bit surprised with this interp. lastly while I very much love the fact you can play said Agile centric character with this class variant due to Lightweight Grappler, while i was rereading the grapple system I noticed that the grapple condition (which you'll be gaining a lot) penalizes your dexterity unless I missed something.. so ouch, not entirely sure what to think on that one. usually i push for Dexterity centric characters, but with that tidbit in... dunno. wish there was a way around that penalty.

small aside- the sample character in here has a feat im.. pretty sure is in the playtest right now, and not in this book. Genius Vigilante?

at the rate this is going, this teams set to empty my wallet... and on classes i didn't think id like, no less. Keep it up!

oh. thats what it means? huh. not what i expected. my "music as a weapon" want switch went screaming at full volume, and it refers to using music like a normal weapon in game. still though. this is worthy of a good look, because my laser focus is still going off. the options still sound good- plus their is sonic assault as my eyes have refocused.

personally im not big on spellcasting at all, which is why i went "blech" at casting. Thank you for the kindness- im getting this now.

Well Exposed sounds pretty good...

Masked Grappler sounds like an interesting take on some submission wrestling. already wondering if i can put someone in a crippler crossface or a figure four.

you do now? oo hoo hoo... that is awesome. and awesome to see it come full circle indeed.

lets see on the lyricist options here.

Bard casting? blech.
Bardic performance? intriguing...

*Stares at the spoiler options. stares EXCEPTIONALLY HARD at Vicious feedback. looks up with eyes wide as saucers*

oh sweet Chaos. if that is remotely like im hoping... well. success again, N jolly. my interest is insanely up, and im currently going through my pre-buy sputtering.

PLEASE let that mean what I hope it means...

N.Jolly, the Dev posts are genius. The last few times they tipped the scales. right now im grinding my teeth. something about the vigilante never clicked to potentially angered me...

but the Exposed viglante? i want to see how that works, considering im still trying to get at how a vigilante player in general works.

Masked Grappler? ive seen some grappling classes in my day, but let it be said I'm a fan of Lucha Libre.

the new magic items? I am VERY intrigued based on those. I rather like unarmed and natural combat...

But the Outrageous Lyricist. Really? Is it truely so outrageous (SHUSH I HAD TO. ITS. RIGHT. THERE!)? bad enough the soundweaver blew my socks off in the Legendary Kineticist book, now there's this? what does it do? can I combo it with exposed vigilante? URGH.

you already had to do with getting me to turn a leaf on ONE recently released class...

WEELP. looking back on my review, Maybe I went a bit to long-but it just kinda came along as is. that said, this was a while coming. thanks for putting something like this out- its rather impressive, and i rate it well just because of some of the concepts on call here.

also, Ranged ideas unite! this gave me more stuff to work with in the future for certain.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Just picked this book up and gave it a flip through. the idea of a zany baker danced on through my head, but... i hope that Culinary magic cookbook comes soon! just.. I need moar recipes, I really do. tons more. this idea is so flavorful and fun. I really want more of this!

I didn't intend on writing a review at first, but it just kind of came out of me, especially once requested. Glad it was enjoyed.

I'll see what I can do about reviewing the other kineticist books. they were all... hehe, instrumental to getting me to this point. but that review came from days of bottled up excitement after diving in to read the Soundweaver and STILL being constantly impressed. This exploration has taught me a LOT about the class.

Viva Cantikinesis indeed! hmm.. a.. Kineticist/ninja hybrid? I...I don't know on that one. A. more of a pirate type meself, but also... how are it's ranged options? im most partial to certain mechanics, and being someone who enjoyed both 3.5 Warlocks (and many of the classes based on invocations) and ranged combat in general is what led me to the Kineticist. Art summoner with it's summoning is another mechanic, but Bardic related stuff like the soundweaver helped tip scales here. what does this Shinobi play out like, if I may ask?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Onyx Tanuki deserves a LOT of Credit then. the Soundweaver was the tipping point to buy the book. and it and Cantikinesis made it well worth the price for me- and I'm still grasping the blast gains in improved and greater Cantikinesis. im still VERY caught on the "Music as a weapon" bit.

(hmm. ill have to look into that build for my Star Butterfly-like. i was focused on dream based on the noted changes to use dream blasts that constantly change in apperance, but... maybe that does work better! hmm. must be fun to just muse on all the ways to build characters as kineticists. by the way, thank you for elemental Scion if you put that one together. it was part of why i bought KOP 1- I like mono-element concepts, and that archetype makes it far better.)

so you both worked on the Artistic summoner and wow... Onyx just kept going and going with the soundweaver. let em know if you see em they just hit one of my game dream points in a very solid way. the Artistic Summoner did as well, although i think i fianlly got my paper firing character out of that one alt- wood kinesis in.. was it KOP 3? either way, one step closer to Yomiko readman. except this time i also fold it into stuff *gasps, picturing a paper direbat as an escape mechanism* *GLEE*.

i thought about it... and i did it. cleaned it up, added more info, attempted to edit, review posted.

ooh. you are? I saw some notes for horror adventures, but i don't have any information on it as of yet. I wonder what things will come of it. eventually ill find out...

okay, I feel the need to gush about this book.

I was unhappy with the kineticist on release and let it be for a long while, but thanks to N. Jolly's guide to them, I found myself intrigued by the wealth of development they have been given in the 3rd party scene.

so i told myself id buy KOP 1 to see what i think of it. now i have this, EO:K, and all 3 KOP books in the last few days

This may be one of my favorite published classes since the Soulknife, but that is due to the efforts of those who wrote those books to expand the possibilities beyond the expected.

This book once I finally got it had me reeling. particularly the Artistic Summoner, and the Soundweaver. while the other books gave me great ideas, (like using an amalgam of EO:K and KOP to make Star Butterfly) ill admit i enjoy the kineticist more from a flavor perspective than game play, and i wouldn't have come that far without the newer elements to use. Mind helps in that for certain but...

...you have no idea how long I've wanted to use ink or paper as a weapon. drawing creations to life in order to protect myself and my team as an actual mechanic? that is something I can't recall encountering in all my years. I'm already planning a disgruntled painter as a potential character or enemy for my campaigns.

but that's nothing on the Soundweaver and Cantikinesis. If I felt I was capable of providing a full review I'd have to try hard not to title it "Cantikinesis. hurray for Cantikinesis" here's the thing. I like skill checks in direct combat for gains. although I can at least understand a little some argument against such a thing.

but this may have been the best way I've ever seen printed as of yet to directly have Music as a weapon, which is something I have only ever seen one other time. and the fact you can use the music as basis for ANY element just makes it all the sweeter. like a character composing elegies that can erode time or just plain matter. or a played lullaby creating a dreamscape. there a few minor gripes and concerns i need to re-read to clarify i feel (like, the instruments you make- can they be masterworked for a perform bonus? or how do you use things like kinetic blade with cantikinesis if at all?), but the flavor burst off the page and had me from the word go. I wish i had the slightest idea how to play a soundweaver well- but then im still learning the normal kineticist. that said. i REALLY want to. the trades in damage that i can see feel worth it for the sheer amount of flavor

Thank you those who wrote this one, and the other kineticist books I mentioned by extension- you saved this class from my no-play heap and even gave me something I feel I never see anymore.

speaking of, I wonder if I could do one with a turntable...hmmm...

BOUGHT!

When I saw this book coming together, I just knew I had to get my hands on this. I'm hoping to see the rest of it soon, but... The Soulknife is practically my default class choice, and before now it was already impressive due to the ways you could dream up your character. with the stuff i know of in this book...I was on the moon reading it during the testing.

Psychic Armory in particular has me QUITE intrigued. i do have some wonders about it, but what questions and concerns i do have are blown out of the water by the fact I can make a character who is walking along with a parosol, but then snaps their fingers and suddenly the air fills with almost anything I can think of and then tossing commences. it makes the range-focused person I am sing.
