Backstory:

Bastille was born to the noble Targarian house. Their symbol, the dragon, spoke of their long standing history of draconic heritage as well as their might. Her grandfather won the throne her father now sat on in a war against the past king. Such was the way of things where Bastille and her family lived. Her childhood was filled with the teachings on how to be a proper princess and other entirely boring subjects. She was soon to be old enough to marry and she was being taught other tricks and secrets to deal with the unfortunate husband she was meant to marry to secure her brothers throne.

Then, disaster struck the Targarian family. War was brought to them in the alleys and shadows. Someone was working behind their backs to bring them down. Bastille was stowed away, hidden and not allowed to be alone for fear she would be targeted next. She didn't like the idea of that very much so she fled to her childhood playgrounds in the dungeons. Perhaps it was fate, or maybe just luck but on the night she snuck away her entire family line was struck down by assassins. In one fell slice the entire Targarian line was severed such that another could claim the throne for themselves. Bastille was unaware of this until the next morning.

She awaoke in the dungeons to the sounds of alarm bells and shouting. It did not take her long to hear from the common folk the grave news. She knew not what to do. She could not find protection anywhere and she certainly did not wish to wait for an assassin to realize they had missed a Targarian. She decided to flee, and flee she did. She travels for days and weeks and months living on her own wits and quick reflexes. Then one day she happened upon an abandoned monestary with good line of sight to the surrounding lands. She decided she would make her home here but was suprised to find it occupied.

It was here that she met her new family. The monestary had a complex set of underground passages and caves, and a large crop of bats had taken up residence there ages ago. They did not mind her presence, and she was fascinated by them. They were a type of bat much different from the ones she would catch in her old home. She took to studying them to pass the time and eventually won the trust of one bat when she nursed it back to health after it crash landed. To her surprise, upon waking the bat looked directly at her with intelligent eyes and it spoke. Not in any language she had learned, but she understood it nonetheless. It spoke to her of her destiny, something she was not eager to hear. She listened anyways thinking herself insane at this point. It said it's name was Bassandra.

Not only did it speak but it taught her. It showed her how to motivate the energy of her body to create power, to use magic. She was amazed that she could do such a thing as magic had been dead for years in her lands. Bassandra explained that it was because of her blood. In it laid great power but the beliefs of this world kept it restrained. It explained that there were other worlds, places where magic ran free where life was extraordinary and where talking bats were an every day thing. She longed to see these places and dreamed of them often over the next few years as she trained herself and her new friends such that she would be protected and prepared should any assassins find her.

They never found her but fate did, as it always seems to. One day while playing in the caves she witnessed two bats fighting. She as their self proclaimed matron mother took it upon herself to calm them down and talk it over. One claimed that he had been through a hole in space and seen wonderful things. The other of course called shenanigans. Bastille and Bassandra decided that the best way to solve this way to go to the place where the hole had been and see for themselves. To their surprise as they neared this random spot of the labyrinth a swirling blue portal opened. Bastille seeing this as a wonderful opportunity to explore snatched the bat who had told her of this place and jumped right through the portal. She found herself in an alley in a city unlike any she could have possibly imagined. The bat she had snatched escaped from her hands and flew into the sky and the portal snapped shut behind her.

She soon found out that she was in a place called Sigil, wherever that was. All she had was Bassandra and her four most favorite bats whom she had trained to keep vigil for assassins using their extraordinary senses. Other than that she was lost, and being lost in Sigil is a good way to get your name in the hall of dead. She would have ended up there too if not for the interference of a new friend.

She was hiding in an alley having just stolen some food to eat when three thugs strolled up behind her. Her rear bat gave her the customary pinch to warn of aggressors and she wheeled about to face them. She was to late however as they swung a club at her knocking her to the ground. As they stood over her about the kill her for the clothes on her back she saw the shape of a bat in the sky. But not any bat, a giant bat, a bat the size of her. It landed on the main aggressors back and sunk it's teeth deep into his jugular. He was dead in seconds. Bastille found her wits and brought forth a gout of flame torching the other two thugs sending them running. She spoke to the bat in the language of her home unsure if it would translate. The bat seemed surprised that this piece of food would talk to it but it was amused and listened. She told it of her past, and of her companions and her apparent fate. She was sure that he must be a part of it as well. She learned his name, Koda, and she convinced him to be her guardian and to help her acclimate to life near the Spire.

They have been living as one since, Bastille now known to the locals as Batty, Bassandra, and Koda. People know of them and know to be kind lest they loose something important like an arm or their life. She has been hardened by her life so far, but still holds a soft spot in her heart for all things bat-like. Today she thought she'd go have a drink with her friends and set off for the Nags Head for a pint and perhaps some pleasant company.
