Testing my goblin :)

Scarab Sages

I thought I found a Pathfinder option published by Paizo that allowed you to use your CON modifier in place of you DEX modifier to AC. I can't remember if it was a feat or a class ability/prestige class ability.

Anyone know what I'm thinking of or am I going insane?

Thanks Lucas for updating this!

Oooh that's me! I actually found the event on the events page and just saw this post come up. I'm looking forward to being there.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Anyone here going to Dragon Con have extra hotel space they would like to split? Air Force decided to send me down to South Carolina so I'm hoping to take advantage and make it to the con last minute!

I don't snore and can sleep in the corner and will pay an equal share of the room rate. :)

Say for example a shadowdancer Cavalier's shadow companion was granted the Precise Strike feat with the tactician ability. Is the extra precision damage strength damage?

I can't find anything about additional damage and attacks that deal ability damage other than ability damage is double like normal on a crit.

Scarab Sages 1/5

If you complete Eyes of the Ten wouldn't you have 37 XP?

33 at level 12 plus 4 xp (1 XP per part)

Has there been any information about GMing at Gen Con? I'd like to help out with a slot or two (or three)

Scarab Sages 1/5

Is there a way to edit the prestige award for GM credit? I ran Master of the Fallen Fortress and it is automatically awarding my character 2 prestige points in the character tracker, even though the adventure awards none.

Scarab Sages

More predictable consequences of casting but more on par with the powerful effect of the feat. Don't think PC's would take it as written but could be interesting for some NPC's. At that point though it could be considered too powerful in the wrong direction. I like where you took it though.

Scarab Sages

Found this home-brewed feat online for 3.5 and want to get input on it's perceived level of balance. I was thinking about changing the damage to 1d8 per spell level and/or capping it to one or two levels.

Prepared spell casters would have to decide to prepare a blood magic spell ahead of time but would not take the damage until the spell is cast.

Blood Magic [Magical Feat]
Prerequisite: Must be capable of casting 2nd level spells
Benefit: After gaining this feat a spellcaster may boost their spells by adding a blood component to the casting. As a part of the casting the caster may choose to deal 1d6 damage to itself and add 1 spell-level to the spell. This can be used to reduce the cost of metamagic feats, or to allow the caster to utilize a spell without giving up the spell slot for the day. The damage increases by 1d6 for every spell-level added.
Normal: Casters are normally restricted to their own spellslots for castings.

Thoughts?

Scarab Sages

Quick question about the "Fungus God" encounter. How should I handle experience awards if the party defeats this encounter before encountering any of the vegepygmies? I don't want to award a bunch of XP for encounters they skipped, but it also seems like a LARGE chunk of XP is now unobtainable so I don't want them too penalized for the rest of the adventure.

Any suggestions?

Scarab Sages

Quick bump, down to 1 or 2 slots. Anyone interested?

Scarab Sages

Starting up a Serpent's Skull biweekly d20Pro game starting June 12th 11AM EST until 2PMish EST.

Campaign headquarters is located at Obsidian Portal

Full campaign information can be found at the above site. Send me a PM here or on Obsidian Portal to join.

Thanks for checking out my campaign!

Scarab Sages

I would love to start up a game myself but I unfortunately have ISP issues with hosting a session with Maptools and D20Pro.

Which VTT did you buy a license for?

Scarab Sages

Looking for a group for Pathfinder or other system (not a fan of 4e) through Vent/Teamspeak/Skype with a virtual tabletop. Have been playing for almost ten years but have not had a group for awhile due to military lifestyle. Interested in one shots or campaign/adventure path. Anyone out there looking for another player?

It's a neat idea, and while still more powerful, isn't as OP as actual gestalt

How would you handle caster level/spells per day?

No change to how caster level/spells per day is handled. It would be based on actual class level whether Primary or Secondary.

Scarab Sages

The secondary class rule is a variant rule of the variant gestalt rule. Instead of getting the best features of both classes, you add only the class features of the secondary class. Your secondary class is always half of our total character level (rounded down).

Your secondary class automatically advances as your total character level advances.

Quick and dirty, might have to look at the base classes and shore up some of the classes that have less class features against what is gained with some of the classes with the most attractive class features. Perhaps getting bonus hit points for classes that don't have class features at every level or don't advance in spell-casting (mainly thinking of fighter).

Thoughts?

Scarab Sages

I am going to be starting an online game soon.

Check out my thread for more information

Scarab Sages

I am recruiting an additional two or more players for a hybrid d20Pro/PbP game using the Kingmaker Adventure Path with light to moderate modifications. For those unfamiliar with d20Pro check out the link at the bottom. The rest of the campaign will be hosted on Obsidian Portal.

Game will be played bi-weekly Sunday 1PM EST using d20Pro and VoIP software (Ventrillo or Teamspeak). We will also be doing some irregular PbP on the campaign website to keep the game moving at a steady pace.

Character background and creation requirements-
1st level
Average hitpoints per level (Half+1)
Average starting wealth for class
Point buy 20 points
Two traits (Max one per category)
Advanced Players Guide base classes are allowed
All Pathfinder Companion books are allowed
Include a short visual description of your character, at least a paragraph for character background, and please define at minimum one clear long term character goal. The more information the better!

If you are interested you do not need to do a full character sheet at this time. I would rather have some creative character design information. The game mechanics can be hashed out after we agree your character will work well in the campaign.

I also have a short discussion for the players who join the campaign about any house rules we want to play.

My campaign Obsidian Portal page can be located at Kingmaker Online

For information about d20Pro check out d20Pro Game Table

Thanks for checking out my game! If you have any questions please contact me here or on my campaign site.

Scarab Sages

Just seeing if anyone is looking to start an online group. Specifically, I am looking to play Serpents Skull AP via a virtual tabletop during the weekend. I would be able to do PbP, but would prefer the speed of VTT.

Anyone else looking to play this AP? Perhaps if we get a group ready a DM will magically appear from the heavens...

Scarab Sages

I'm getting the ball rolling on a Kingmaker PbP/Maptools hybrid campaign and am looking for 3-5 more players. PbP will be hosted on dndgamesonline.com and Maptools portion will be approx. every other Sunday around 9ish CST/10ish EST

I am looking to have the game be primarily PbP with Maptools being used to help speed up certain scenes and keep the group more engaged with the campaign.

If you are interested please check out the recruitment thread on

Into the Stolen Lands

Thanks for taking a look!

Scarab Sages

Does Kingmaker (or any of the adventure paths) use a default point buy level? Can't find anything listed but thought I might have read it somewhere.

Scarab Sages

Just a quick question. I started my subscription to the Adventure Paths with Kingmaker 5. It has shipped but Kingmaker 6 and Skull 1 are not showing up in My Subscriptions. Read something about July shipments being wonky is that causing them to get skipped for me?

Thanks!

Scarab Sages

I'm having trouble extracting images from my PDF for use with Maptools. I am pulling them out with Acrobat 8 and plugging them into GIMP but it keeps squishing the image up. Any tips?

Scarab Sages

I need to cancel my subscription, how do I go about doing so?

Thanks

Scarab Sages

If the monsters are living creatures then yes it would. Look at the feat Selective Channeling to get around that.

when i cleric uses the chan pos to heal his party would it heal the monsters as well.

I see the targeting a creature type in the next paragraph is what I was missing thanks!

Full text from the SRD

"Channel Energy (Su)

Regardless of alignment, any cleric can release a wave of energy by channeling the power of her faith through her holy (or unholy) symbol (see Channel Energy). This energy can be used to cause or heal damage, depending on the type of energy channeled and the creatures targeted.

A good cleric (or a neutral cleric who worships a good deity) channels positive energy and can choose to deal damage to undead creatures or to heal living creatures. An evil cleric (or a neutral cleric who worships an evil deity) channels negative energy and can choose to deal damage to living creatures or to heal undead creatures. A neutral cleric of a neutral deity (or one who is not devoted to a particular deity) must choose whether she channels positive or negative energy. Once this choice is made, it cannot be reversed. This decision also determines whether the cleric can cast spontaneous cure or inflict spells (see spontaneous casting).

Channeling energy causes a burst that affects all creatures of one type (either undead or living) in a 30-foot radius centered on the cleric. The amount of damage dealt or healed is equal to 1d6 points of damage plus 1d6 points of damage for every two cleric levels beyond 1st (2d6 at 3rd, 3d6 at 5th, and so on). Creatures that take damage from channeled energy receive a Will save to halve the damage. The DC of this save is equal to 10 + 1/2 the cleric's level + the cleric's Charisma modifier. Creatures healed by channel energy cannot exceed their maximum hit point total—all excess healing is lost. A cleric may channel energy a number of times per day equal to 3 + her Charisma modifier. This is a standard action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity. A cleric can choose whether or not to include herself in this effect. A cleric must be able to present her holy symbol to use this ability."

You have to choose what type of creatures you are targeting when you channel. Living or undead. If you target undead, positive injures and...

Scarab Sages

A player of mine asked how the evil cleric was healing undead and dealing damage to things caught in his energy burst. He mentioned that the use of the word "or" in the channel energy rules dictated that the cleric could do one or the other but not both. That sounded wrong to me since the ability is a burst effect and anyone caught would be effected (healed if undead, harmed if living). After reading it a couple times I am not sure what to think though.

Heres the PRSRD rules text

A good cleric (or a neutral cleric who worships a good deity) channels positive energy and can choose to deal damage to undead creatures or to heal living creatures. An evil cleric (or a neutral cleric who worships an evil deity) channels negative energy and can choose to deal damage to living creatures or to heal undead creatures.

Running this tonight...Is an Osirian PC unable to complete their faction mission if there is no Cheliax PC playing at the same table? The faction mission seems to be worded as such.

Scarab Sages

Is it possible to add items to a subscription mailing? I just subbed for the PF Adventure Paths and I would like to pick up back issues.

Scarab Sages 1/5

How are the skill ranks this item grants determined for PFS OP? Should I just randomly roll which Knowledge skill it grants

Scarab Sages 1/5

If a potion or scroll is found during a scenario and is used does it still show up on the Chronicle Sheet? Do you have to pay the cost of the item that was used?

Scarab Sages 1/5

Are the teamwork feats in the final beta play test an option for non-cavaliers?

Scarab Sages 1/5

It appears to only be GM numbers actually. I also can't seem to save the session.

Scarab Sages 1/5

Can't report events at the moment. When typing in player/GM numbers it gives a "Object error" message.

Scarab Sages 1/5

thanks just what I was looking for

Scarab Sages 1/5

Is there a (tentative) release schedule for upcoming mods?

Scarab Sages 1/5

Sunday January 10th Fanfare Sports and Entertainment will be host to the first Pathfinder Society module, Silent Tide.

This is a great opportunity for anyone in the southwest Michigan area to come give Pathfinder a go. If there is anyone interested in Pathfinder in the Southwest Michigan area, but you have already played Silent Tide, please send me a PM with a suggestion for which module you would like to see @ Fanfare.

Sign up and information about Fanfare can be found on the "In-Store Calendar" at www.fanfare-SE.com

Scarab Sages

Is there a Pathfinder feat/ability that allows a fighter to give an opponent a negative modifier if they choice to target someone other than the fighter? I'm not seeing anything core and searching the forum is leaving me empty handed.

Can anyone tell me what product to look for for something like this?

Scarab Sages 1/5

Well adding nothing further to the discussion I am going to second everything posted here. If the adventure can be adapted with minimal effort to work with PFS, I don't see a downside for either the players or Paizo.

Scarab Sages

Is there a way to associate my account with a new email account?

Scarab Sages

Trying to work out a vitality/wounds system for my upcoming campaign. I based it on the Unearthed Arcana variant.

Wound Points (WP)-

Spoiler:
Hit points from the first hit die are treated as WP. Once a character takes even a single point of wound damage they are fatigued. Additional wound damage will not cause the character to be exhausted but other effects that cause fatigue will. A short rest or any magical healing will end this effect. I'm tinkering with the idea of Toughness style feats counting as additional WP.

Vitality Points (VP)-

Spoiler:
All hit die beyond the first are treated as VP. Once VP reach 0 damage is subtracted from WP. Bonus hit points from favored class and magical effects are treated as VP.

Critical hits -

Spoiler:
Critical hits are rolled normally and applied as regular damage. Critical hits also deal 1d6+(Weapon Critical Multiplier) bonus damage which is applied directly to WP. (I'm thinking of making the bonus damage a single die of the same type that the weapon deals or scaling somehow for weapon size.)

Healing -

Spoiler:
Any component of magical healing that is a variable effect is applied to VP only. Any static bonus based on caster level can be split between WP and VP.

Natural healing occurs at the rate of 1 WP per full night's rest and 1 VP per character level per full night's rest. This can be doubled with the use of the Heal skill.

Anything not listed will be as the core rules. Please let me know what you think and offer any suggestions.
