I dont see them as a good group to pull together. I see Zehir, Tharizdun, and the demon lord trapped in the ice as a better combo. All three want to escape some sort of imprisonment and are researching a ritual to do so. They decided to pool resources to accomplish this and it has a classic feel to it. Orcus, Zehir, and Zenooghu might work well together as well to say overthrow Asmodeus. An abyssal power struggle seems like a good idea. Larry Latourneau wrote: I like the idea. For your initial... I like the idea of using a d10 becuase the results vary enough to make it random but keeps its simpler. You read the just the single die, consult the chart and move. I like the idea that even in madness the character still has some minor control over the character. A target suffering from madness could kill his allies one moment and then save the rest of them the next. Movement Update: A creature suffering from Madness grants combat advantage while moving. The creature moves the maximum distance it can move in that direction until it can no longer move. Powers: A character suffering from Madness also takes an action. Roll a 1d10 to Determine the Result. Assign a number to each power. (If the player has a power card deck shuffle that deck and draw a card randomly, be sure to include a basic melee attack and healing surge in that deck). If the number of powers is odd the player may state what (s)he wishes to do for the round. The power is always focus on the nearest correct target. If no target meets the requirements to use it, that power is expended for the encounter or day. 1. The Target attempts to do nothing.

Its too physically taxing to be done more than once a day. Edit: If you want to add a house rule similar to the person above why not allow the Pc's to spend an action point and a healing surge (from which they gain no hp) to gain another use of a daily power. If you do not like this idea why not have them take half damage from the attack to represent the physical strain on their bodies. I really like Wotc products. I typically buy Wotc first and 3pp second. Beyond that even though I plan on playing 4e I am still finding great inspiration with the products Paizo has/is producing. WARS art for the Iconic characters for PRPG is some of my favorite I have seen anywhere. Personally, I think the market will bear both editions running happily(just give the nerdrage time to stop boiling over). Also, I think a good idea is a good idea no matter what edition it comes from. CourtFool wrote: I always wanted to try running a Half-Orc bard but I am sure I would have been gleefully killed by any DM for making such a ‘stupid’ character. Call him Thump or Thwack!(Or maybe his clubs should be called that) Have him dual wield bone clubs to make "melodies" out of his "insturments" and sing while doing it ala Monty Pyhthon and the Animal xylaphone. Be a great war drummer. Brilliantly fun concept. Your Kung-Fu caught me unawares and I do not have what I wrote on me. However, one of the things that I thought me an excellent idea would be to add a scalable power called Inspire Madness to specfic creatures to give your personal caimpaign flair. True to it's H.P Lovecraftian roots I think many creatures from the Far Realm (Abberants) such as the Mind Flayer would be excellent candidate for this. Creatures such as undead would also work. Like the new Lycanthropy it would have an immediate encounter drawback. Beyond the encounter problem a disease like effect would be a nice touch. I think it would have the players doubt their player characters sanity a bit. So here is what I can remember
Madness: The target randomly moves and uses powers. Roll 1d10 to determine direction.

I think half the fun of D&D is the miss-takes that happen during play. Never, ever again, will I include a toilet that functions on a disintegration spell. David Marks wrote:
You've found my weakness! The peanut button! Like taste, I think its a to each (group) his or her own. I had a friend who refused to play any edition of D&D since 1st and was at least curious enough to try 4th edition. Now that she has, she has become a part of our regular group. I think the current caimpaign would be missing something without her at the table as she has added a lot of insight, fun, and role-playing to the table. Teiran wrote: We'll be seeing Lances, mounted combat, followers, and all the other missing things soon enough. I can understand why it's annoying not having these things right away, but they're coming. Frankly, I havent found anything missing yet. If the path that the prefabbed adventures continue to take deals with undead though I might start making it into a horror campaign. Im all for descriptive storytelling that makes the pcs want to gouge out their respective eyes( and ears and scrub their brains with soap). It would be interesting to see if they do some kind of update via dragon or dungeon to heroes of horror. Im also working on a house rule for madness becuase I thought it might be fun. Well considering each class takes up at least 12 pages (wizard was highest I think with 15), adding in the other standards of Monk, Bard, Druid, Sorceror, and Barbarian would have taken another 60 pages at least. Adding in the missing races of Gnome and Half-orc may have been easier at 2 pages per race though.(Aside from the extra space for feats etc about them). The designers asked themselves what role these races played and could play and decided they werent major players. Every team needs benchwarmers. Since eberron was brought up, I think it would be a good idea to include Half-Orc as part of the material so it would be divorced from the whole brutal creation things the designers didnt like. As far as gnomes are concerned you have enough information to play one if you would like. As far as missing weapons, I do not see it as that big of a deal. The stats can be figured out. I was never a fan of mounted combat or poke-paladins. Heck, I hated animal companions and familiars too. I am glad they are all gone. Blackdragon wrote:
I am so tired of having to go around and solve all of your misdeeds. Sadly, I am the type of person to correct them. They now have seperate levels for 3.5 edition and 4th. Is OCD an alignment choice? Jal Dorak wrote:

It means under the laws of Nerath, that the Cohort is legally recognized as owning half your stuff. I know I am wrong for this put my head is in a odd place this morning. I think he means something like "full fledged team member" (ie, he gets to wear the nifty outfits and hats like everyone else) where as a Henchmen is more like Nodwick. drjones wrote: Anyone check out http://www.enworld.org/ main page faq/reading of the gsl? I would love to see other companies work with it, but I don't want to see them get burned. I *somehow* get the impression that they are all waiting for someone to poke it with a stick and see what happens. Lou wrote:
This strikes me as odd. If you have a product that contains sexual situations it is therefore not allowed in the GSL? So you can't include brothels, whores, or anything of like? I mean I could see WotC/Hasbro not wanting to have their product seen as child unfriendly, but didnt they themselves publish the Book of Vile Darkness and Heroes of Horror(I beleive the DMGII town Salt Marsh contains something that might be a sexual situation)? Why is the whole world afraid of nipples (clamps)? Btw what did Nick Logue do to cause this fear? Curious non radioactive kitties want to know. Robert N. Emerson wrote:

Very interesting cough you have there sir. Aside from this, there are already a beavy of tools for creating power cards. An Italian site called Dragons Lair creates pdfs of the powers you type up. Print these in color on card stock and your golden. The best part about creating you own allows you to create powers like Hand of Fate for your epic level Cleric of the Raven Queen. Im selling all of my 3.X stuff (4 foot stack of books) except the basics (Set of 3.5 Core books, Spell compendium, magic item compendium) becuase I dont have room for all of it. I am keeping my OD&D box set, Rules Cyclopedia, and my dragon collection back to issue 76 becuase they belonged to my dad though. My groups embraced 4e whole heartedly even the 1st edition player who swore up and down she would never play anything but Palladium and WOW. Since, I am the dm most of the time I tend to be the purchaser of the majority of the products and they said they would double what I made from the selling of my books for the new edition. Invairably the classes will come into more light as the defined power sources do. I think Primal, Elemental, and Shadow would be a could combination because it would fit nicely into the mold of the cosmology they have setup. Quote:
This is a bit of a catch 22. Paper tokens (which I printed on card stock and attached to plastic bases [10 for .99 cents]) are a good thing, but not as good as say 3d plastic pre-painted minis. By including more in your product that appeals to the buyer you are more likely to sell that product. The problem is that the product now costs more money to make. They may sell more units, but a higher price might put people off. Look at the dicussion for the 4e core rules set for an example. And the mini's might still be collectable becuase there would only be two ways to get them. Its a scary example, but look at Yu-gi-oh cards. The ones that you could get from McDonalds were hard to find. Just like they have Frostie that special beholder ( I think). David Marks wrote:
Wouldn't that be a good reason to give a core (as in non FR) class to also fulfill that role? David Marks wrote:
While I am currently running KotS (it has a classic feel to my players and me. It reminds some of the old edition players of Keep on the Borderlands), I must say that this has been a wonderful addition to the game myself. It doesn't matter if some of the maps are reprints, I didn't have them. If WotC took a page from Fiery Dragons book this would have been an outstanding adventure (Fiery Dragon made thinly veiled paper tokens for the adventure, they are a must have for the adventure). It would be an EVEN better idea to include custom minis of the BBEG and important minions for adventures. Especially if that BBEG was reoccuring though out the path. Vic Wertz wrote:
Compel: 1: to drive or urge forcefully or irresistibly2: to cause to do or occur by overwhelming pressure So who or what made you do it? The guy said it was generic, and you still beat the horse. It honestly doesn't matter if you are "technically" and maybe legally right, you really come across harsh in this response.(and asinine as well). As proven already people are going to use the term "Adventure Path", whether you like it or not, generically. As one person pointed out people used iconic terms to identify something. (Coke, Kleenex, NyQuil) They do so in writing, in things like blogs and emails. Are you really going to have people run around the net and be "compelled" to chime in that they are technically incorrect in their usage and that it is a trademark of your company? Just my two cents, your probably going to be compelled to not like it
