Can anybody tell me more about the origins of the Suel lich? Would it be totally illogical if I made Orcus the source of knowledge needed to become one.

Somewhere in the adventure "Headless" by James Jacobs it is mentioned that the artifact created by a derro orcus cultist was fashioned after one in the former Suel empire. (I don't have the issue with me, so please forgive me if I am wrong.) So there was a cult of the Demon Prince of Undeath.

I always wanted to run a pirate/swashbuckling campaign. Demons are by far my favorites, not only evil outsiders but general adversaries for my players. I can't think of something meaner than a creature made of shadows and flames (can't wait to get the Fiendish Codex I to check this!).

But I will have to wait to start even creating the player characters with my players. Since THE issue is still three months away.
We will get a preview on the STAP in issue 138, if I'm not mistaken. But that is even 2 months away.

Please let us have just a little piece of information on Sasserine perhaps. I don't want to be ungrateful. Your work on the new AP is fantastic up to now. And there is the FCI arriving next month. But someone must have hid a black pearl under my pillow, sending me all the way down in the abyss of STAP-Madness!

I Would very very very much like to see a Demonomicon excerpt on Dagon, demon prince of the watery deeps.

I would very very much like to see class act articles on the swashbuckler and the warlock.

I would very much like to see an ecology article on the sea hag.

I would like to see a core beliefs article on St. Cuthbert. (I don't know if he is worshipped in Sasserine, as he is in near Cauldron. But I am playing a cleric of the Cudgel in the SCAP! :))

And of course I am looking forward to the "Fishfood"-articles! (As to more Infos to the coming AP on these boards)

What about Adimarchus. Connecting the two APs even more, by the return of this former celestial now (dead?) demon prince.

Can anybody tell me some typical Phanaton names?

As I am in Germany too, that's great news. I can't wait to open those vile pages and get even more into the STAP!

We know of Demogorgon, but what other celebrities will we see in the adventure path? Perhaps another one from the Circle of Eight. If so my money is on Drawmji! I look forward to run the author of the infamous Demonomicon: Igglwilv. Are my hopes justified? The finale includes a planar conspiracy. Maybe more than one demon prince plays a major role... It could be Graz'zt, Orcus or even Dagon who uses the player characters to weaken his eternal foe the so called Prince of Demons.
Or we might see some recurring NPCs or even PCs from other adventure paths, as mentioned in other threads on these boards.

Who could it be?

Since I don't know exactly what affiliations are, just like Taurendil, I am writing down my wishes for an organization the PCs could join.

It would be great to have some AP-specific affiliations at hand, when the PCs are created. Some with ties to a demon prince (especially Dagon, Graz'zt, Orcus) would be nice. Since I am planning to run a campaign with swashbuckling dark heroes (riding the thin line of Neutrality, just one step away from evil) a duelling society as desribed in dragon #301 is what I am aiming at, so corresponding affiliations are what I need.

BTW I really liked the traits presented in the Shackled City hardcover and the prestige classes for the two previous APs, too. :)

I know it might be a bit early but here are my suggestions to my players in regard to class choice:

In my opinion the STAP calls for heroes who are of a much darker tone than the normal good-aligned guys in shining armor you send to stop say a wormgod from destroying the world. No this time the PCs have to negotiate a planar conspiracy to weaken Demogorgon himself (and destroy him afterwards). It is likely that they could expect help from one of the other two mighty demon princes, namely Graz'zt and Orcus (Tenebrous). But what Paladin would ask a power from the lower planes for help? Even if destroying the two-headed Prince of Demons, he would still help the other two to further their goals.

So I decided the warlock would make for a great alternative to the wizard in the STAP. Who wouldn't want to meet the source of ones power? I guess most clerics do. With his deceive item ability he could use a lot of wizard or cleric items, namely scrolls to cast certain important spells.

The PCs are going to travel a lot on board of a ship (surrounded by water). A heavy armor means, in most cases, a lower swim skill. The iconic group includes a fighter and a cleric, both wear heavy armor and are therefore at an disadvantage when wearing that type of armor. If they don't, they don't play up to their best abilities.

I think the swashbuckler would make for a better choice than the fighter. He wears light armor, carries a rapier and is the perfect choice for a pirate campaign.

To add a bit inner-group-tension I think the spellthief would make a great alternative to the rogue. Trying to wrest some of his dark powers from the warlock, he follows him and waits for the right moment.

After watching King Kong (the new one) I was very intrigued by the tribe populating Skull Island. I am not familiar with Greyhawk, in which I am going to run my STAP-campaign, but wouldn't make an Olman Spirit Shaman with the Atlan's Mark feat from Dragon for a great dark heroe? Perhaps Chitza-Atlan is to vile, please let me know. The abilities of the Spirit Shaman excel when it comes to spirits, so an encounter with a ghost ship would be great. And he doesn't wear heavy armot like the cleric does.

This group will be faced with a serious problem: it lacks a really strong hand. Normally I am for the iconic classes, but this time I feel it is time to try something new.

Please let me know what you think on all this or what you would consider great player classes for the Savage Tide AP!

Thanks in advance.

Kleiner Nachtrag:

Wen es interessiert: Ich leite gerade Red Hand of Doom, spiele in einer online-Runde den Shackled City AP und beginne bald den Savage Tide AP.

*Überrascht hier mal was auf Deutsch zu lesen*

Bin aus München.

As I mentioned it in another thread:

"I would buy it, although I possess the magazines!"

Oh yes it would! And I would buy it despite the fact that I possess the magazines and do not have to lend them to anyone. :)

We started the AoW, but our group got split up. Now we try to run the SCAP online, but I am not the DM. :(

...thread... (sorry no native speaker) ;)

I don't want to derail my own threat but how did Kyra finally got her barbarian level?

This is going to be my first serious 3.5 pc, since I have been the DM of our group for the last couple of years.

N male human (Suel) cleric 1 of Wee Jas.
Str 12, dex 13, con 10, int 14, wis 16, cha 13; Scribe Scroll, Spell Focus (enchantment), Spontaneous Healer; Domains: Domination, Repose.
A former Kord worshiper, the greatsword never felt right in his comparable weak (str 12) hands. At the age of 15 his first and only love was murdered during the exploration of a jungle ruin, he got seriously injured and was on the brink of death. Some Jasadins searching for exotic spell components found the half-dead boy (he would have prefered young man), healed his wounds and offered him to convert to their obviously superior faith. He accepted this second chance with only one goal in mind: become an important man within the church of the Witch Goddess to be rewarded by her with the restoration of his darling to the living.

The jungle ruin is located near Cauldron, but I am still searching for some potential murderers for his great love. I think of some savage humanoids, but don't know which ones would fit the SCAP.

Sweet! Thanks everyone.

I consider taking the Scribe Scroll feat because the Ruby Sorceress promotes the creation of magic items and the Spontaneous Healer feat because of your post Tarlane and the absence of undead characters in my group :) And if I can afford some sacred clothing as presented in Dragon 328 some rubbies in my platinum blond hair would be pretty.
Without the intent to get on your nerves:
Do you have any suggestions for a nice flaw not too severly crippling my effectiveness.

BTW I am very interested to get to know what faith your clerics in the SCAP uphold.

I think I will go for the church inquisitor PrC, with the Domination and the Repose domain. My DM and me thought about changing the detect evil spell-like ability on the first level to detect chaos, because there might be evil aligned members of the church totally devoted to the faith. It is the chaotic heretics threatening the holy Law of the Stern Lady.

The true necromancer PrC would have been nice too, but one of the players was quite shocked when I was asking to burrow the Libris Mortis from him. In addition we already have an arcane spellcaster in the group. She is a gnome illusionist and I suggested giving up enchantment and necromancy because of my domain selection.

Will there be enough to do for a cleric in the SCAP?
(And I have something different in mind then closing the wounds of my fellow adventurers)

I hope we are going to start saving Cauldron next week with the following heroes:

? male dwarf fighter
? female gnome illusionist
? male halfling rogue
? female half-elf monk
N male human (Suel) cleric of Wee Jas (Domination, Repose)

I am going to play a cleric in the SCAP and want to make my character feel at home in cauldron. There are temples of St. Cuthbert, Kord, Pelor an Wee Jas in the city. Although I think it would be no serious problem to add a small shrine of a fifth faith, I prefer my cleric to worship one of these four deities.

First I wanted to play a cleric of St. Cuthbert going for church inqisitor, but my DM told me there won't be any intrigues going on within the church to uncover. He instead suggested Wee Jas as a patron deity. It is a lawful church ridden with corruption.
The AP will be set in Greyhawk and I want to make a real Greyhawk character. I am using the spell compendium and wonder which domains are appropriate for Wee Jas. In a download from the living greyhawk page I read that her temples are protected by charmed monsters. So do you think the charm domain would fit?
I consider the deathbound and the undeath domain for to vile. The repose domain listed in the download appeared in Sandstorm, as I have no access to this supplement I am asking if it differs from the one presented in the players guide to faerun.

Thank you for your oppinion in advance.

Posting for the first time, the fact that my nick name originates from my first character ever played suggests this thread.

It was in the summer of 98 when I got ill and forced to stay at home all the sunny time. I had to quit playing basketball and was desperately searching for an alternative to TV. A friend of mine came up with the idea playing D&D, and our group grew with each budy coming back again from vacation. The only setting available to us had been the Realms, so we started in guess Shadowdale.

Aureus was or is an elf. Better say a sun elf living near Shadowdale. He is a fighter/mage, as the wizard was called back in 2nd edition. Aureus is a strategist (I hope the translation is correct, because we used to play in German our mother tongue.), living on a tree house with his wife Lena. He carried the Sword of the Dales for a while which was really awesome to me.

In the retrospective our game was a bit naive but real fun.
