I was starting this thread because the reaction of my players finally cinvinced me to stop the STAP and start the RotRAP. At the moment we are collecting ideas for characters. One player wants to run a gnome illusionist, another one a halfling rogue/sorcerer.
As Mr. Jacobs gave a clear answer, I am convinced that the sorcerer is good as she is. But what about the d6 hit die? Perhaps the edge the class needs... BTW: Next to these two characters there will be an elf fighter (spiked chain wielder), a dwarven cleric (he doesn't like the six gods from the blog!?!) and a dwarven ranger (giant slayer). (I've posted it before, but I think the boards took it!) The sorcerer always seemed to me underpowered in comparison to the wizard. So I was tinkering with the idea to make them equal by giving him bonus feats, too. The wizard receives Scribe Scroll on first level and another one on 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th level. At each such opportunity, she can choose a metamagic feat, an item creation feat, or Spell Mastery. I thought about granting the sorcerer either a Bloodline-feat as described in the Dragon Compendium Vol. 1 or the corresponding magazines. Later on he would gain a bonus feat on 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th level. At each such opportunity, she can choose a metamagic feat or another Bloodline-feat. For example a sorcerer with dragon blood in his veins would get Draconic Bloodline on 1st, Draconic Sight on 5th, Power in the Blood on 10th and Quicken Spell on 15th, Kin Mastery on 20th level. Of course the same could be done with the Heritage-feats from Wizards of the Coast, but of late I don't like to touch those books. What do you say, would this make the class overpowered? The hardest decision I have to make this year is wether to continue STAP or switching to RotRAP. Savage Tide is surely the best campaign I have ever run, it has simply everything! But I am running it in Eberron and at the moment I don't want to have contact to anything from Wizards! I don't want to read their novels, I don't want to study their rulebooks, I don't want to run their adventures and I don't want to put my time into a setting those own. My feelings are perhaps not that rational or reasonable, but I am that frustrated that a company stops the production of products that are of high quality and sell good, in favor of products that are of lower quality to make more money. I know there has been a lot of this topic these days, but that's the way I see it. IMHO Pathfinder is the way to go! If the quality is the same as in Dragon and Dungeon, and I bet it will increase, it is the best the industry has to offer. As I mentioned in other threads: the more Paizo I consumed the more Greyhawk I wanted, but as my players never found an entry to this world we missed that one.
What a hard decision! An evil-campaign isn't a thing I would like to run, but some of my players would love it for sure! They thought long and hard when Rowyn Kellani offered them a partnership. But because for metagaming reasons they denied and attacked. They thought I will break down in tears if they chose the dark side. AHAHA those fools! I simply had to tell them that it REALY was an option! MUAHAHAHA!!! Talking about connections between the deities, could it be that Erastil is the old/first god of civilization and Abadar the new/second of the "same" portfolio?
Could Erastil be the father of Abadar? No, never was our intent to weaken Paizo by selling their products.
Although a German Pathfinder would be AWESOME! Filge from The Whispering Cairn was a great low-level BBEG, he got the PCs hating him on first sight! But of course Vanthus Vanderboren is my favorite villain. He has got a nice background story revealed bit by bit throughout the STAP and he "evolves" from encounter to encounter. The PCs hated him and haven't had to see him at all, his mocking comments before he locked them in the smuggler tunnels were enough! Dryder wrote:
I have to second this. BTW Dryder, if you are still interested in translating Hollow's Last Hope please let me know your email address. Stebehil wrote: Yes, of course. I have to see how much participation my free time allows. My girlfriend already complained about me hanging on some messageboards all the time... As far as I know you are an architect already working, I am just a student of architecture and know what you are talking about! :( Would be great to add you to the mailing list I am typing at the moment. BTW Oliver I need yours, too. Talon wrote:
You get it when I am at home. But you are aware that it is Eberron specific? I fear I would need your email address Lautlos! @Oliver von Spreckelsen: Well actually this was my intent, creating a way to "hurt" the PCs by calling their home like this. -fleck originated from the "-fleck" in "Marktfleck" (marketplace), but of course we'll have to wait until there is more information on the town. But yes, somehow it sounds strange. Anyway I like your suggestions! @Lautlos: Of course this would be simple, for my taste a bit too simple and I (speaking of simplicity) simply don't like English words in my game. It is not that I don't like the English language which is beautiful and I would love to play in an English game to learn it properly, but I can't imagine Tolkien in German with a Rivendale in it. IMHO destroys the atmosphere. Hollow's Last Hope is a free adventure and prequel to The Crown of the Kobold King. I am searching for volunteers to translate it into German to further the "German" interest into Pathfinder. Of course we would need an OK from Paizo, but I think it would be worth the effort. So far Dryder and Oliver von Spreckelsen are on board (or would be). Wormy, Stebehil interested? Hey, but seriously, why shouldn't we translate it into German? It is a free download as far as I know and if you gave us (German Paizo Fanboys and Fangirls) the OK, we could translate it, perhaps advertise it on THE German D&D-website (www.dnd-gate.de) and get some new customers for Pathfinder/GameMastery products. Also see "Translating the RotRAP" thread on these lovely boards. WormysQueue wrote: You bet I'm interested in. Will be some time til we come to the "Sea Wyvern's Wake" but I do so like this adventure that I'll take everything I can get :) Check your PMs Celeste! :) WormysQueue wrote: Right at the moment I'm thinking about translating James Jacob's Pathfinder Blog to post it at the Gate (and hopefully to generate some interest about the Pathfinder series in our german fellas). Of course you can count me in this regard, if I can do something to help. Perhaps I should have asked before translating the Goblin Song as well. :(WormysQueue wrote: btw, since I'm to translate parts of the Books anyway, expect me to join in any related discussion. GREAT news!!! I hope we can inspire some love for Pathfinder over in the Gate. (www.dnd-gate.de) "WormysQueue wrote: But as a matter of fact, I'm quite happy not to have to translate something on the "Age of Worms" or "Savage Tides" line, as far as titles are concerned ;) As far as I know you are running "Age of Worms" in the Gate and "Savage Tide" at the table both set in Eberron. I do too run STAP in Eberron and have described the journey to the IoD during SWW to my group via email. If you are interested... Perhaps you can use some of it for your own descriptions. Also I did a rumors table concerning the unknown enemy on board. If you are interested tell Saal or leave a message here. If not happy gaming anyway! I began playing D&D in the Realms and have done so the first five years. The more I read the more I realized that EVERYTHING has been "fixed" somewhere, be it novel or sourcebook, adventure or online article. There was no room for my own ideas. So I got frustrated and sought for something else.
So I haven't started with the pink box or something and never had the experience like "hey Expedition to Castle Ravenloft brings up old memories", but I can second that Varisia has the potential to become my or our Greyhawk. We have hardly translated the first song and those pesky goblins won't stop writing new ones! No, a really nice start IMHO and thanks a lot for participating in this discussion. Hopefully this thread will result in more German interest in Pathfinder! Most of the names in the RotRAP are "fantasy names" and do not need to be translated, but there are others like Sandpoint or Riddleport. It needs the "backdrops" to tell for sure, but here is my try for the small coastal town where it all starts: Sandfleck. And although we know pretty few of them, I tried to translate the titles of the modules, too. (Definetely to early, but patience isn't one of my virtues) #1 Burnt Offerings = "Verbrannte Opfergaben" or "Verbranntes Süneopfer" which would contain a connection to sins, but sound wrong to me. #2 Skinsaw Murders = tricky as it surely connects to the method the killers used to tidy up lovely Sandpoint a bit. #3 Hook Mountain Massacre = tricky as well as we do know as good as nothing about these mountains yet. perhaps "Das Hakenberg-Massaker" or "Das Beisserberg-Massaker". #4 Fortress of Stone = simple and simply tricky, perhaps "Die Festung aus Stein" or "Die Steinerne Festung". #5 Sins of the Saviors = "Die Sünden der Erretter" or "Die Sünden der Retter", again we will have to wait until we know whose sins those are in that title. #6 The Towers of Xin-Shalast = "Die Türme Xin-Shalasts" oder "Die Türme von Xin-Shalast" Well it will take some time, do it right but together... Truly amazed by Pathfinder in general and Rise of the Runelords in particular, I intend to translate some of it into my mothertongue. First things first so I started with the Goblin Song! Goblins beißen und Goblins kauen,
Goblins prügeln und Goblins verdreschen,
Chase the baby, catch the pup,
The two lines I haven't translated yet are verrry tricky, at least for me. Any suggestions? What can do better, what would you do different? Thanks in advance. As far as I know the Pathfinders are an organization similiar to the Harpers, Seekers and Wayfinders. But does it have any tendencies regarding alignment? IMHO For example the Harpers tend to good, the Seekers to evil and the Wayfinders are for the most part neutral (of course dramatically simplified). So do the Pathfinders tend to good? Could there be some traitorous individuals within their ranks? What class is the typical member? Oh to wait until August/September is so hard! Peruhain of Brithondy wrote: Are the core gods (Pelor, Wee Jas, etc.) OGL? Mr. Jacobs answered this in another thread, the core deities are part of the Greyhawk pantheon and thus owned by the greedy Wizards. Peruhain of Brithondy wrote: And, whatever the answer to question one, will the Pathfinder setting be developing its own set of deities and religions unique to that setting? I think so as two new deities are mentioned in the previews. Peruhain of Brithondy wrote: A third question: what about demon lords, archdevils, and celestial paragons, along with the outer planes? Are these OGL and will Pathfinder be adopting the standard "great wheel" setup for the outer planes, or developing its own? Yes, what about these?
