Thank you so much, for showing me the way back to the roots of this lovely game!

I am already working on the translation into German. :)

Personally, I haven't even read a single issue of Pathfinder and I'm already partial to the idea of switching to the campaign setting exclusively. f*~# wizards.

I feel the same way!

Mine didn't! This day/night is so chaotic. :(

I don't want to get on somebodies nerves, but I subscribed and it isn't recognized. Although I just got two (but need only one) confirmations via email. What should I do?

Somehow I am not recognized as subscriber. I hope for receiving the magazines anyway.

Strange my email account received two confirmations for purchasing the subscription. But I just want one. :(

Aureus, I don't know what happened but our database shows that you haven't yet made a choice on the transition page. Please try it again, and be sure to click the "save changes" button.

I will go for it! Thanks a lot.

I just subscribed to Pathfinder, but am not recognized as subscriber. :(

Still a bit confused, I try to focus on the new possibilities of the magazine. A new, but classic fantasy world deigned by the best authors of the industry. Somehow I am looking forward to this future, but I can't deny that sadness in me.

I just don't know what to say (or write).

There absolutely will. Near the end of the path, the PCs get to meet the glabrezu who granted those wishes, and maybe a tormented larvae with a strangely familiar head...

AWESOME! I wish we could together more often and role some dice.

It was more like reading a good novel than the background of a new adventure. Great! Seems Mr. Pett scored some points, Mr. Logue.

This would be especially nice since I made a table concerning rumors on the Sea Wyvern regarding the unknown saboteur/murderer (in German/Eberron, if somebody is interested), one of these rumors speaks of an alife Verik, the other of a mad animal companion.

I thought about "Bruchbucht", but...

Translating "bullywug" into "Tyrannenfrosch" sounds somewhat ugly. But "Bully" into "Tyrann", sounds logical I just wasn't aware of the word in "bullywug". Strange...

Thanks Stebehil.

If it helps, Aureus--Scuttlecove gets its name from the many scuttled ships on the bottom of the harbor, making navigation difficult without the proper charts or a knowledgeable pilot.

Yes, the backdrop says so. But there won't come any cool German name to mind that gives back this fact.

Peruhain of Brithondy wrote:
"Here there be monsters" is really a reference to the labels on early maps that placed fanciful creatures in the uncharted corners of the world. It is sort of equivalent to the Latin term "terra incognita" in a certain way.

Very interesting. I didn't know that! Thanks a lot. I looked it up on Wikipedia, but it is still somewhat difficult to find the right German title.

Perhaps I just have to make my head ache a bit longer. :(

If somebody cares:

I translated

"There Is No Honor" into "Es gibt keine Ehre"

"Bullywug Gambit" into "Das Bullywuggambit"

"Sea Wyvern's Wake" into "Kielwasser der Seelindwurm"

I am aware of the discussion on the translation of wyvern and linnorm, and think "linnorm" is translated into "Lindwurm" not "wyvern". Urol will rectify this in the encounter with the wyverns during the journey to the Isle of Dread.

"Farshore" into "Fernhafen"

The title of the fourth module is a bit complicated as it has this biblical "here ther be" in it. Any suggestions?

But what leaves me really guessing is infamous "Scuttlecove".
I know "scuttle" meaning to sink a ship and "cove" small bay, but...

I'm not an avid dungeon reader since #1, but more or less since #112, so I decided to answer anyway.
In my short paizo fanboy history, I especially liked the Whispering Cairne, Sasserine and of late Exag!
(There was always this image of a city like Exag in my mind. The only difference was size. In my Exag everything is much bigger, perhaps made by giants...)

Thanks for the replies. It is funny since at the beginning I would have put it in the Eldeen Reaches or Aundair near the Demonwastes. A friend of mine said Talenta Plains. After reading the whole module and the backdrop: due to the gnomes in the first adventure I would have put it in Zilargo or Darguun.
And I like your ideas, too. Droam is great and well the Plains, although already mentioned, as well. Great! This discussion alone is evidence of the flexibility of this lovely Exag.

Playing with the idea to start an online game running this lovely trilogy, I wonder where Exag would fit in. Any conversion suggestions? Perhaps one of the Fantastic Five? :)

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

Update:

The Sea Wyvern is on its way to Renkrue. After a terrible battle at Atikula River the ship is in dire need for new heroes, as the two remainig are only shadows of their former thelves. Bloodtooth has lost his mind and attacked Captain Yserion (Bri) so he put him in shackles down in the hold. But the Captain himself is paranoid and usually doesn't leave his cabin for the most part of the trip.

Astrena Ghastor (NG female human cleric 5/Exorcist of the Silver Flame 2); the PRC is modified to provide full spell progression having the cleric BAB and poor fortitude saves.
Block (LG male personality warforged paladin 7); using the substitution levels from Races of Eberron and some from Dragon #349, he is aiming for Knight of the Chalice.
Bloodtooth (N male saurial shifter ranger 2/warblade 4); rebuilt from pure ranger and aiming for Bloodclaw Master.
Bri (N male changeling beguiler 6); slowly shifts to evil and becomes a tool of Malcanthet.
Tallian Del Nezzelech (NG male wavecrest gnome artificer 5); the cohort of Astrena and played as a DMPC.

? (N female human necromancer 7); not named yet and aiming for archmage.

We are playing a side trek adventure during the SWW to introduce the new heroes as we had a TPK last session. I am running Shatterhull Island out of Stormwrack and am really looking forward to play again!

My players survived Diamondback and the stiltwalkers last night. After the battle, one player said that it felt like a scene from a James Bond movie, early Roger Moore era. He was totally right. (And we both mean it in a positive way.)

Experienced the same and it was great fun! :D

IMHO it is just a feature of the half-fiendish look. :)

However, I want to keep the feel of the church as close to D&D cannon as Eberron's cosmology will allow. Looking ahead to the later parts of the AP, what can I seed in early in the campaign that can pay off later? In broad terms, how will this church pay off later so I don't do anything too damaging up front.

I'm sure most of this can't really be answered, but any help is greatly appreciated.

I just have to second all this.

SPOILERS TO FOLLOW!

Any time FilmGuy and as we had something similar to a TPK last session we are in the same or (again) similar boat. A player of mine wants to make a cleric of Dol Arrah and is somehow interested in the Church, but not an affiliated member yet. Perhaps Vesserin Catherly, Jakara or Rissashtak can convert her to their cause.
Would you rule that she becomes a fallen priest or just let her discover that there is a darker side of Dol Arrah?
Anyway she hasn't figured out a prestige class yet and I am looking for any suggestions here. It should have FULL spellprogresseion.

Thanks in advance

I had a TPK in the second session, down in the hold of the Blue Nixie crossing the first rhagodessa.
Well we just built new characters and Lavinia sent them after the previous ones on the ship. She still wanted to know what was going on there and where her money went, so she searched town for new heroes!
Last session we had something similiar to a TPK: three players joined me at the table, three dead characters ended in the belly of the river hydra.
But there are still PCs on board the Sea Wyvern and as I love this greatest-campaign-ever and won't stop running it in one way or the other until this monkeyboy gets what he deserves (again: one way or the other!)we continue, of course.
Next stop on the route to the IoD is Renkrue and there is a bunch of castaways waiting for the next ship leaving for Farshore.

PCs: Lucil (NG female human sorcerer 1/cleric 3/mystic theurge 1),Orba (CG female human barbarian 5), Piet Flickbert (NG male human rogue 4/swashbuckler 2)
Adventure: Sea Wyvern's Wake
Location of Death: Atikula River
Catalyst: the hydra's fast healing ability

Long Description: Like so many times, there were only three of my five players present this session.
The Jaderavens supported them halfhearted with ranged attacks and spells. It was simply chaos and the resulting endless battle.
First the mele combatants climbed into the rigging and fired arrow after arrow, while the hydra tasted sailor after sailor. Crazy! They were not able to deside which tactic to perform: slaying the body or cutting off its heads.
The battle was three and a half hours long and 25+ rounds in game time. Terrible! Very frustrating to see my players panic. I am glad it is over.

I just bought it in my FLGS and I am in Germany.

I think that Eberron is a great setting and one of its strenghts is flexibility. There is as good as almost more than one way to explain why things are (or just seem) as they seem. :)

If you don't want D&D or Greyhawk celebrities in your game don't use or convert them.

If you do, go for it!

Yes I am. Thanks for the link! I have seen these audio books when I payed my book today and look forward to listen to them. When I get a new job I might buy one or two or all of them, as my girl friend loves audio books!!! Since she is a player in my STAP campaign she simply HAS TO listen to them before I run the Lightless Depths!

In case somebody cares or is otherwise interested in Lovecraft in German, I finally found In the Mountains of Madness and other stories at the Suhrkamp publishing house.

I will start reading it as soon as I finish Claws from the Night. :)

Here is a link:

http://www.suhrkamp.de/schnellsuche.cfm?suche=Lovecraft&x=0&y=0

Thanks again for advice guys!

Although I am quite unhappy with the conversion notes of late, too, I am going to stick with them. In the last third of STAP there might be an encounter with "the Whirling Fury" (Gwynharwyf). So I plan to explain this odd faith with a previous appearance of the celestial in Lamecha, resulting in her worship by the onlookers believing her to be Dol Arrah/the Fury.

I am not quite sure of the domains yet, but seriously think about making the favored weapon this double halberd from Secrets of Sarlona.

Kobold Lord wrote:
there's nothing in the Eberron source materials suggesting that these fusion religions happen at all

There actually is in Faiths of Eberron: Onatar and the Traveler.

Mr. Greer started a thread on these lovely boards detailing the Dungeon of Rust and Fire.

Perhaps in Enemies of my Enemy. (Not sure if the title is correct, as I don't have issue #138 with me.

My group is going to get some hirelings in the next port on their voyage south. But I think they are only interested in mercenaries and perhaps a healer.

Perhaps I would equipp them with Great Fortitude or Toughness, and maybe a Weapon Focus in their favored weapon: the club.

I would suggest NE male or femalen human warrior 1; str 12 dex 11 con 12 int 9 wis 10 cha 8. As the average bandit always had to fight for his life, but is not charismatic or intelligent enough to get an honorable job. :)

Perhaps equipped with Great Fortitude or Toughness, and maybe a Weapon Focus in their favored weapon: the club.

I DM the STAP at the table and play in two PBP-games on dnd-gate.de.

There are a lot of grappling monsters in STAP so a strong melee combatant is a thing your group should include.

Whispering Cairn! Never seen a better 1st level adventure in my 21 years gamers career!

I have to second this. Simply the best (although my gamers career is 12 years shorter).

Mad God's Key is also very good IMHO. After running it several times I already despise Sunless Citadel, but Meepo is still one the most memorable NPC in our gaming group.

Erik Mona wrote:
Not sure when, exactly, but it will come out.

Great! I am really looking forward to it. May I know in which direction it finally did evolve, a whole setting, a world of its own, an adventure set in Greyhawk or a generic one?

I am in Munich, Germany and just returned from Barcelona, Spain. They have quite some FLGS over there and there are much much much more books translated into Spanish than there are in German, so I guess the Spanish are quite the gamers, too.

I have to second this. The exact destination is still very vague. The first conversion notes say that it is located somewhere in the Dragonreach, but where?

So many times I have played with the ideas in my head on a homebrew world. I didn't started this thread to talk about them, but wanted to ask wether you use the core deities from the PHB or create your own ones?

Thanks in advance.

Steve Greer wrote:

The encounter table for the waters surrounding the Isle of Dread is in #143.

I said so. :)

I think dungeon #144 has a encounter table for the waters around the IoD in it.

Any news on "The Refuge of Nex"? I believe in reading somethin somewhere about it but cannot tell where and when. Perhaps it was on these lovely boards, but perhaps in one of the two magazines.

Originally I wanted to run the AP in Greyhawk, but my players were able to get into this setting. There is simply to few "easily" accessible information on this lovely world.
The last adventures we played were all set in Eberron so I gave it a try to convert the AP to this great world.

I would position the IoD somewhere between Sarlona and Argonnessen. The duration of the trip during SWW is perhaps a bit too long so I might shorten it, but I'll definitely wait until the conversion notes are available. Although I already run the adventure. At the moment I keep the dates and such a bit vague. My players seem to understand or simply don't care too much for details :(

I do too play with Action Points, but wonder which villains to give the Heroic Spirit feat so they may use them, too. At the moment there is just Vanthus on my list. What do you say?

I would also prefer a low level arc in Eberron as I seem to have too many mid level adventures set in this lovely world, but too few good low level ones to start the campaign. Although a high level arc would be cool, too. There are not many high level adventures set in this world as far as I know.
