About Arma Avox

Background:

A physician originally from eastern Cheliax, moderately pretty but not interested in pushing her will on others. Her mother was Garundi, and her father was Chelish, leaving her with dark skin and dark hair and no particular allegiance to anyone.

As a young woman, she was made an apprentice to a household healer, Master Ewyn, and taught medicine, mathematics, and natural science. She had the drive to become a good physician, but it all came crashing down when a strange sickness appeared in the isolated town. What she calls the Rotting started with open sores that turned to a vicious infection that would cause death in a matter of days. When Master Ewyn became sick, Arma tried to save him by amputating the infected arm, but having never done surgery on her own, accidentally killed him.

When aid finally came to the town, she was left with the choice to stay, and almost certainly be tried and convicted of murder, or flee. She stole from her late master's alchemical supplies and ran. That was about a year ago; when she heard of the expedition being mounted by the Bountiful Venture Company, she headed to Almas, in hopes of finding some kind of redemption for her crime.

Arma brings her intellect, her alchemical knowledge, and her practical knowledge of getting along in the wild.

In Her Own Words:

"Few years back, got m'self apprenticed to a household healer. I liked it, I really did, Master Ewyn said I could be a physician. Worked with him for a few years, and it was all good. Then, s*$@, then the Rotting came. Open sores on the body that got infected, kills the flesh around it, then soon enough, kills the patient.

"The lady of the household got it, Master Ewyn tried to save her, nothing he did helped. Few days after that, Master Ewyn hisself is barely conscious, his arm from here down is just, all around the open weeping sore the flesh has turned black, and stars, the smell, I'll never forget. You know the smell of death? Imagine that smell so thick it feels like the air is pressing in on you, choking you, feeling like the miasma would kill you if nothing else. And Master Ewyn, he's laying there, dying.

"I had to do something. I thought, maybe, if I removed what was dead, it wouldn't spread and he could recover right. I'd seen him remove a man's foot that got mangled, it was the same principle, yeah? Least, that's what I thought. Didn't know s$#*, though, still don't know what I did wrong. As much as I can figure, there must have been a big blood vessel there, because no matter how much I tried to stop it, it just wouldn't stop bleeding. There was so much blood.

"I killed him, I won't try to deny that. Maybe he woulda died soon enough from the Rotting, but I still killed him, and everybody knew it. I...it was lay down and face justice, or run. I couldn't...I was too scared. I stole some of Master Evyn's alchemical supplies, paid a guardsman a few gold pieces to look the other way, and I ran."
