Greetings all,

I have recently undertaken building an alchemist in place of my "retired" cavalier. I have built a melee alchemist but don't know what type of equipment to buy. My character has roughly 45,000 gold to spend and an Amulet of Mighty Fists +2; any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Your standard Ring of Protection +x, Cloak of Resistance +x, and a stat boosting headband and belt are always a good buy.

Taldor

The thing is the party (and GM) aren't sure if it is safe to rest. How do you determine that?

Taldor

Ok, so now that I am allowing them to level up in the middle of a dungeon I assume that they must now rest for 8 hours to gain their new spells. How do I handle this? Do I roll every couple of hours for a random monster or should I assume that the area of the dungeon that they have already cleared is safe enough to rest 8 hours?

Much thanks for everyone's assistance!!

Taldor

Its good to know that I am doing both of these correctly!!

Taldor

Being a new GM, I have two questions about the word "level".

1) If the party members have enough experience to level up during a module, do they level up at that time or should I wait until the end of the module?

2) If, because of a bonus due to a stat, a 1st level character has an additional 2nd level spell, do they actually get to use a 2nd level spell as a 1st level character or most they wait until they can actually utilize the spell per the class spell chart?

Thanks!!

Taldor

Wait!! What did they find? Argh - a cliffhanger!!

Taldor

Exactly why I was giving him slack was the probability of him not having time to prepare. Thanks for confirming this!! I would adventure with him again - he was a nice guy. Even though he did get punched by a young party member.

Taldor

In fairness to the GM, I believe he was new to GMing and may not have had a lot of time to prepare since he had to constantly read from the module to tell us what was going on. Since there were 5 other groups playing at the same time in a relatively small space I believe he may have suffered from not being able to hear very well. Several times we said we wanted to listen at the door and then were magically able to tell what was in the room and the dimensions of it (as if we had already entered the room). :> Was your GM an older gentleman?

Yep. Doug, we already spoke at Burger King about this. But after having more time to think about our experience we came to the conclusion that the experience was kind of boring. That's why I checked out what the module was actually supposed to be like. I wanted to be fair to the GM taking in account the noise and his newness to GMing. And the noise from the other tables clued me into the fact that we weren't having the same experience. That can also be attributed to the group that we were in and not solely on the GM.

(And other stuff)

It sounds like your GM may have chosen to abandon a lot of the module's flavor. Mists is a great module because it drips with so much cleverness and oddities. It's supposed to illicit feelings of "A Night at the Museum" which can be done by playing up the non-combat elements (the monkeys for example).

He may have also been confused or frustrated with the mists. They require some player PvP, but the rules state player PvP isn't allowed. Some GMs (especially those that don't come here) often have problems with this.

P.S. - You probably didn't fight the croc because it was on a different tier.

Played this module last weekend and it sounds like I got a different flavor from it then discussed here.

Three of six party members were caught sniffing the mists and only seemed to want to smash things but on a whole they fought as normal. We never encountered a croc even though we travailed the whole entirety of the museum.

The gorilla fight at the end was over in 2 hits from a fighter and barbarian - 18 points of damage. There were no other monkeys in the room but we were almost killed by 3 animated objects - a shovel, vase, and something else.

The guy we supposed to find was on top of the ziggurat looking like he was to be sacrificed but we never found out who was doing the sacrificing. I assumed in was the giant gorilla. I'd be interested in reading the module now that I've played it.

Must have more...and quickly!!

Another well done chapter...thanks again for your storytelling!!

That was a really good read, I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye out for chapter 2 next week! Might have to find out if any of the book stores here carry The River Kings' Road too...

I just finished reading the The River Kings' Road and that it was well written. I finished it in three days!!

Doug,

I have a question about how long it takes to post sessions to our characters. I noticed that you posted my first session but Jeff and Kyle have not. Should I be concerned?

Thanks,
Troy

What does CR stand for? Also, is it too much to expect college freshman to think like adults? LOL

Taldor

Hello All,

I'm new to Pathfinder and I will be running Hollow's Last Hope for my son and his friends.

The module states that it is for 4 1st level characters. What would I need to do to make the module fit for potentially 6 characters?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ariadan

Concerning HD and leveling up, if I was a bard with a HD of 8, would I roll an 8 sided dice or just add 8 more hit points?

1st level you gain your full hit die + con bonus + favored class (if you choose it).

Each level afterward you get 1/2 your hit die + 1 + con bonus + favored class (if you choose it). So for a Bard (d8), you'd get a fixed 5 points per level plus any bonuses. So an 8th level bard would have a base of 8+(7*5) = 43 hit points before any bonuses.

And per page 16 of the Guide to Organized Play...

Quote:
Step 8: Hit Points Hit points and the way you gain them as you level function differently in Pathfinder Society Organized Play. Table 4–1 shows Hit Dice per class, hit points at first level, and hit points gained each level.
The table is on page 14, but it's always half the HD plus 1 after 1st level.

Thanks for the help. I just started playing last weekend and had a blast with Doug and Kyle.

Taldor

Thanks for the responses!! He is old enough to manage his account but he probably won't be doing anything with it but playing in the society. I will get him signed up and added to the Society before tonight's event.

Taldor

If I add a character to the Society for my son and we plan to play together can I add his character to my existing account or do I need to make another account for him?

Thanks,
Ariadan

On a side note: are we allowed to bring our own food in since there is no food service?

Yes, bring your son!

Not sure on the food thing. As a GM, I certainly won't say anything about it.

He was thinking a spellcaster but after reading them up, I think he should play something simpler like a rogue or ranger. I used Treant's Optimization guides to determine the difficulty for a wizard and druid.

What to bring with us: Core Rulebook, character sheets, dice, and a figurine?

One last bump! It's your first chance post-Gen Con to participate in world class Pathfinder Society Events! ;-)
Just got an e-mail from the con RPG coordinator, said that he's heard a group that can form their own table is coming to play. I already know of 8 players coming additionally. I have a third table per slot added, with Jeff Stop & Roger lined up to GM.

Maybe you should start looking for a 4th :-). I'm doing my best to try to get there as well. 3rd to 4th level Ranger - as usual.

We are up to 4 now. :)

Hello everyone!! Forgive me if this has been asked before.

I am creating my first PFS character and have a question about traits. In the Traits section of the guide, it states that I may add 2 traits. There is another section that talks about Faction traits.

Do I get 2 traits in addition to a faction trait thus leaving me with 3 traits?

***After reading this, I believe I have answered my own question.

During character creation, you may select one trait
from your PC’s faction trait list below. You may select
one additional trait from any other legal resource

New player here in the heart of Macomb Township!!

I'll bring a portable folding table (8'). But the chairs, I do not have.

And yes, I'll be there prior to 2 on Friday, because I can.

Please understand that I will not be there on Friday until 5pm, to run a scenario in the last slot. You needn't bring a folding table. The Oakland Center has a large food court area in the middle and several secluded study areas on the fringes. I expect that the student population will be sparse for another month.

So there is no reason to show up before 5:00? I want to make sure I get a spot in the session.

Taldor

I'm a new Pathfinder looking for a group in the Macomb area. I will be at Michicon this Friday and Saturday for my first Pathfinder Society session as well as my first Pathfinder session. Old DD player and have taught my sons DD 4.0 but find it lacking and find my self missing the old days of DD.

Taldor

I look forward to playing my first session of Pathfinder!! Still trying to decide my faction and class. I used to like playing a bard in DD 2.0 but I'm thinking I might want to start out with something simpler. Any thoughts?
