Aref move closer to the action (O17) and begins the intoning "Lubriv'itik!" as he gestures and indicates an area beneath the feet of his friends' foes.
Casts Grease on U-V/18-19, Reflex DC16 or anyone in that area falls prone, save is repeated each round on my turn. People can move in the area at half speed if they make a DC 10 balance check, failure by 5 or more means they fall, regular failure means they make a DC 16 reflex or fall.
Then the beetle attacks-
1d20+3=23 Beetle attacks-nat 20!, 2d4+3=8 damage,1d20+3=13 to confirm, 2d4+3=9 probably not a reconfirm unless U19 dude goes prone, so probably 8 damage (17 if a crit).
That would now mean that Thelonius would move to T18 as the beetle apeared where he would have ended up. He'll still attack the Wizard, although he's now opposite Book.
Aref moves to an open part of the room (J14) and chants in a sing-song voice, "Comen Hali Avi Carapak!!" and draws a fire beetle from beyond our realm into being. A beetle that glows with a faint aire of goodness and right, Aref urges him on. (conjured into O16) The insect wastes no time and charges the two men in the doorway opting to hit the one on the right (charge to T19 and attack dude in U19 with a smiting bite-1d20+3=22 to hit, 2d4+4=10 damage.
"Drasheer?!?! I believe ve has trouble coming from outside that I shall check on..."
Aref steps over to the main doors and throws them open, look outside for a source of Drasheer's wariness. D15
1d20+6=15 perception.
Hmmm, dis is gonna be ugly.
Aref palms a tanglefoot bag and prepares to throw if anything happens....not a prepared action, just having it out.
Sorry, just got back enough....If you could give me an abbreviated version of what I missed I would be most appreciative(falsehealer at yahoo dot com if you want to keep it off the threads). I am back though now after a run through heaven and hell. Did we level?
Cool, looks like we're back rolling. I may have some problems posting for a few days but I will get back on ASAP, some personal issues, see the False Hope discussion for more details if you wish. I am trying to keep pace with my PBPs and hell/life so just bear with me a bit.
"Drasheer, remember! Alvays show a lady respect. She vill come around. I will return for you and would like your hide to not have several donkey-bites out of it. Buttercup is a lady and as such you must respect her wishes and work to win her over through your actions."
Drasheer looks like he is listening intently and absorbing Aref's advice on wooing females. He looks at Buttercup and lowers his head almost to the ground in almost a bow.
Aref smiles at the good plan Gulaf puts in motion with his people and says, "Yes. The Pillar vould be a good idea, servants of the goodly gods vill be well armed to help vith such a vile creature as we have on us while we figure out how to trap de demon."
Cordoba, I have vith me a book on summoning. Ve just haven't had much time to peruse it for something of vorth. Perhaps myself and our mage-friend could find a nice area to really go over it vithin dis warehouse and out of sight of our nemesis while the rest of you shop about.
Thank you Draka, may your journeys be short and water be frequent! Vhat should ve do with poor Aki? I could bring her vith us until ve find someone to heal her of her affliction or kill de demon. Drasheer may look a bit rough but he moves with barely a sway in his step and vould be a most comfortable perch for our little sleeping chick-a-dee.
My apologies again Draka for bringing a bad situation to your door. I hope dis hasn't made me lose honor in your house, old friend, for I vould feel such a lose to my soul's source.
Just making sure I don't step on any toes;P
Ve can sneak into the city through the tunnels dat (they say) run back from the cliffs right under de inner city and out to the hives like a honeycomb. I know of a retired mage who is a trader in magical goods up and down the river, vas once a court magician until he took too many liberties with one of de pasha's concubines. He vas luckily not killed but it vas a close thing. He taught me much in de ways of life in de courts and even more about de mystical arts. He has a place just inside the valls of de city. Come, ve will take the tunnels, it vill make it hard for our spirit-demon to vatch us.
Ahh, see! Drasheer likes the idea of a little romping with sweet Buttercup! Ha-Ha! Ve may soon be uncles to de first ever Donkel! Or perhaps a Camkey... Ha!
I vonder if de donkey and my camel could cross-breed, a hybrid of both would be quite a thing to behold and possibly quite useful. I vill need to think, someone who could help vith IDing de gem......hmmmmmm.
"You will NOT harm her, demon! Alak mojady sleaknirim!" Grease on the dagger, DC16 reflex or he drops it.
Aref then begins reaching in his back for the Eye.
De enchantment properties vould be a bind spell o' some sort. De divination auras it is radiating vould presumably be some way to detect or see de demon, perhaps by peering through de gems facets. That would explain vhy Vass wanted it. Conjuration, I'll guess ve'll find out, as I have no clue, even though conjuring is someting of a specialty of mine.
From de burnt remains of the book ve found several drawings of demons that are presumably renderings of Vass or someting like him. If somevone is going to bind dis demon again they'll need a picture, I think.
A really big frickin spherical emerald that was the capstone to the cylinder in which Vass was imprisoned. The "Eye of Aroden".
OK, that's just hilarious. Would anyone care to theorize on its potential uses?
Hoksu, loot forthcoming.
Sorry, hard to keep track lately. I think it might help trap the spirit/demon thingy.
Hey, The Eye of Aroden! It may be the key to capturing our body-snatching demon!
detect magic on the Eye, in private(the basement hopefully)! trying to determine auras.
Draka, I apologize for dis disturbance and all we have brought to your house. It seems we awoke some demon in de desert and he has followed even when we thought him gone. He takes the body of the weak-willed and uses them as a noble uses a concubine and them then discards it when done, used and worthless. Or dead. I must figure out how to destroy it permanently. He seemed to want something from my pack. Probably de book. I vish to have some time to study it's mysteries. Pulsifer, I vould velcome your help in examining dis book.
Probably gonna refrain from further actions except to head towards Akilara by the safest means to help escort her lovely form to safety.
Akilara just ran out, perhaps she is heading upstairs or into the basement.
More importantly one of the Patrons has moved in behind you and has just flashed out a knife. It's a small toothless man with skin like baked leather., he has the hands of a stonemason.
He was looking at your backpack when you glanced back.
When Aref's turn comes up.....
"Sons of de B@+~+!!! You vould dare to steal from me! Manifesit sect'segman!" Aref casts summon monster 1 on the defensive 1d20=20 +7 or 8 so I made it well. creating a celestial fire beetle to attack the man.
It will bite and attempt to smite him on it's first attack1d20 3=9, 2d4 4=10probably a miss. Please place the beetle where it fits on my turn.
Tanglefoot Bag: When you throw a tanglefoot bag at a creature (as a ranged touch attack with a range increment of 10 feet), the bag comes apart and the goo bursts out, entangling the target and then becoming tough and resilient upon exposure to air. An entangled creature takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity and must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be glued to the floor, unable to move. Even on a successful save, it can move only at half speed. Huge or larger creatures are unaffected by a tanglefoot bag. A flying creature is not stuck to the floor, but it must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be unable to fly (assuming it uses its wings to fly) and fall to the ground. A tanglefoot bag does not function underwater.
A creature that is glued to the floor (or unable to fly) can break free by making a DC 17 Strength check or by dealing 15 points of damage to the goo with a slashing weapon. A creature trying to scrape goo off itself, or another creature assisting, does not need to make an attack roll; hitting the goo is automatic, after which the creature that hit makes a damage roll to see how much of the goo was scraped off. Once free, the creature can move (including flying) at half speed. A character capable of spellcasting who is bound by the goo must make a DC 15 Concentration check to cast a spell. The goo becomes brittle and fragile after 2d4 rounds, cracking apart and losing its effectiveness. An application of universal solvent to a stuck creature dissolves the alchemical goo immediately.
A sheen of oil spreads out over the surface of the greatsword from hilt to tip.
1/2 Elf Psi Warrior. Reflex save vs. grease: 1d20+4=17
The half elf's hands slip on the huge blade for a second, but he gets control over it.
Just give me a couple of hours for the orc and Mwangi, guys
He's gotta make that save each round also or drop it. Not sure if that is on my initiative or his for the follow-up saves though so I'll leave that to you.
"Draka! Dis is not my fault! I know dese men not a bit! Alak mojady sleaknirim!" Aref points at the greatsword wielding man's weapon while intoning that last part [ooc]Grease on the weapon, DC16 reflex or he drops the weapon. "Surely I cannot be held accountable for dese rabble! Akilara, run my love!"
"Ahhh, Sweet Akilara, why do you taunt me so? In all my travels I have never seen a desert blossom shed beauty as you do. I vould be made whole if you vere to be mine, with your beauty that vould make a god give up the heavens. Someday, my dear, you will know my worth and honor me vith your hand."
Aref is smitten with her if you couldn't tell.
I vill take you to a bathhouse on the morrow. Safe rest is more important right now. Perhaps Draka can spare a jug of water and some rags to help wipe away some of the journey? Draka?
HA-HA!!! Now you see de true wisdom of my people! Also you may have noticed......desert. Not forest. There is not a great abundance of materials for furniture unless you vould like to be sitting in a sandstone settee. I see that Akilara is still as vonderful of a dancer as ever! I alvays wondered why she stayed in dis place, Draka, when her beauty would not be out of place in de palaces of de city proper. Someday, dear flower, you vill see me for what I truly am and ve will be wed. That I promise.
Aref will spend a few gold on food and drinks. "Draka! You ol' Dunestalker you! You are a vide as ever, my friend! I have a good group of people vith me, but our travels were hard and a safe night vould be most velcome. There is only one person I thought of vhen I thought to their safety.....Draka the Wide!"
"Leviternlo rot'h Niplern! Do not vorry, friend. You shall not wear de sight and smell of your journey any longer." Aref concentrates on Ryor for a few moments, directing his prestidigitation spell to clean the man, then smiles slightly as he make him smell heavily of lilac and hyacinth.
"That vill have to do for a day...I know a place...a dive of a tavern with a great man for an owner, Draka the Wide, but the tuber and spice soup is filling and good and the brew is smooth, the owner has rooms to rent for strangers. For friends he sometimes allows use of his cellar, a clean, cool space that vill be nothing more than some cots on a dirt floor, but far more secure and safe than any other rooms to find in The Hive. Ve will not need worry about being robbed, or worse there. Ve can then head into the city proper on the morrow to one of the bathhouses to get the grit of the road to fall away and melt some of the tensions we carry."
Aref looks around at his companions, "Dis is my suggestion, and de safest course I can think of. Vhat do you think?"
After they pass Aref steps out and, looking at the quickly diminishing cloud from the riders, speaks to his companions. "The man in the lead is a Judge, or Qadi, and de soldiers are the Shurta, or de lawkeepers. Such units are regularly dispatched for the bringing of peace and law in Katheer, but less frequently travel beyond the valls. Out here law is usually dealt out by the Spah, the armies of Qadira.
The Judges are de most revered members of Qadiran society. Aside from the Satrap himself, dey are the only ones empowered to be passing judgement at will. I wonder what would draw them outside like dis."
Ve should hide, dem riders be lookin' fer sometin and I don't want to be it. If dey pass quickly we can make de outskirts of town by the night's arrival.
