Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"I've heard interesting things about some of your cuisine, and I would be grateful for your hospitality. I will await your decision." as he turns to leave he hesitates and adds "I do point out Cheliax - where I understand your college was founded - also supports slavery."

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

very nice speech Grey!

The diplomat makes one last attempt
"I feel we are so close to an understanding! Arazni teaches us that... ah! the word life, living, so fraught with connotation"
"Arazni teaches the purpose of one's existence is growth through experience. Simple repetition is for animals and machines. Yet, at some point, Pharasma - the soul thief - will kill you and take your soul. Perhaps she will pass it on to some god you have chosen, perhaps keep it for herself."
"Why should she have the right? Power? Is Power sufficient?"
"Geb is founded by those who believed they should not simply accept an end to their existence, their experience, and their growth. They defy Pharasma."
"Of course those who defy Pharasma have a duty to help others with their experiences, and to grow as people, whether or not those they help are alive or dead."

"Can you not agree that those capable of growth - regardless of whether Quick or Dead - are equally deserving of the right to existence?"

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"Please, let's not get distracted with the slavery issue. I'm campaigning for limited emancipation myself. It is your treatment of post-mortem citizens we are most interested in."

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"We have three... castes, I suppose. The Quick, the Dead, and the Thralls."

"The Quick and the Dead are equal, though the tendency for powerful Quick to become Dead does give them a pre-eminent position. The most powerful members of our society are the Blood Lords - who after all these years are now dead."

"Thralls, of course, are those who would never really amount to anything. The parasites upon society. These are used for society's benefit. Dead thralls till the fields for food for the living. Live thralls breed more thralls. Thralls are more... property, than people."

The Ambassador seems quite open, though he doesn't mention that live thralls also feed the Dead, something Hargran had openly discussed in his classes.

"I suppose the Blood Lords are your analogues. Certainly, when Geb formed the kingdom I believe he had the archaic Runelords in mind. They act to keep the Realm stable, and are one of the first line of defences against attacks from our many enemies. I would say they serve the realm, but then I may be biased."

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"Necromancy" starts the new ambassador "Is obviously very important to us in Geb. Yet in so many kingdoms it is supressed, or even outright banned! And why? The 'Undead'."
He shakes his head sadly at the convocation of Runelords he addresses.

"My mother is in her second life. As is my grandfather. It is my wish that one day I too will defeat the Soulstealer and join them in immortality. Why am I here, instead of one of the Dead? Because so many countries would kill them for the simple crime of existence!"

"When we heard of your enlightened experiment here, in this godforsaken wilderness, we in Geb were curious. Arcane studies have always been important to us."

"When we heard your law not only allowed reanimation, but all but required citizens to become 'Undead' - albeit of the lowest ranks - your stock with the Blood Lords rose!"

"I come before you in the hopes of Alliance. Secretly if necessary, openly if you wish. Geb can offer you economic help, military support, political advice. We only ask that you codify in your laws tolerance and equality for those who choose not to simply embrace death, but rise again."

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Oh :(
For some reason I wasn't seeing the new posts. I knew to check the gameplay, but not the discussion thread. Just checked idly now to see what happened and saw the posts :(

Thanks for a great game DM Awesome! I'm sorry I didn't post earlier :(

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

DM_Awesome:

Are you waiting for me?

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

DM_Awesome:
I was going to read it out loud - is that a problem? While the spell is active Arasmes will write some notes so he knows *which* Sigils to speak. Presumably the sigils are read magic?

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

DM_Awesome:

Okay to cast comprehend languages and read magic on the book now?

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

hope not waiting for me... Arasmes is going to to try to pray for divine inspiration for the book. After that he'd take watch, but he needs his nap, er meditation, first.

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"Agreed. Rest sounds good. Given Angus' proclamation that something wicked was coming, it might be worth posting watches, and sleeping with weapons near at hand."

DM_Awesome:

At midnight Arasmes will do his normal thing and sneak out to meditate under the stars. Probably on the roof this time.
He'll memorise Comprehend Languages and Read Languages, if that is okay.

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Arasmes spends perhaps thirty seconds in silence. When he speaks he is colder.
"Interesting... I detect no illusions about the book, but it is magical. Does anyone know a spell that can decipher occult glyphs? Perhaps they are mixed in with the normal words."

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

@DM_AWesome:
Spellcraft 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16. Can Arasmes work out the spell, or at least school on the girl, and then on the book?

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Arasmes bites back his suspicious comments about this "mentor"
"Just going to check something" he says casually, as he starts casting

@DM Awesome:

Casting detect magic.
Is there any magic on the book?
Is there any magic on the girl?
Is there any unaccounted for (like clairvoyance maybe) magic in the room?

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Arasmes spins round to look at Marie, then recovers his aplomb. "You recognise it?"

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"I can't do anything till after midnight - anyone got any ideas we should do till then?"

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"I hate to brag, but the Dark has provided me with the ability to read ancient tongues before. Admittedly I mostly used it to pass my history exams, but I think it could work for this too."

sense motive DC 16:

Arasmes' tone is light but he's lying. He used the spell for something important, not cheating on a history exam. He seems to be trying not to rub the superiority of the Dark over the Light in people's faces... and maybe doesn't want them to know what he actually used it for.

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"I did sort of feel something calling me to it. Perhaps the Dark provides?"

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Arasmes follows Gryfford back in

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

@Gryfford:

"I don't know - maybe you're right. Don't you feel it though? Something wrong with her?"

@DM_Awesome:

Can Arasmes sense if Gryfford has been influenced by a charm or something?
Sense Motive 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"I'll check the library."

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"I suggest we find her. Now."

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Arasmes looks around "What do you mean, she...?"
this is followed by cursing in long dead languages
"When was the last time anyone saw her?"

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"For my part, I worked out how to get through the ward, dropped through the roof and followed you. I channelled to heal Marie, paged through a few books and then the Zombies attacked. Oh, Taltosh - do you still have that book I handed you?"

Arasmes shrugs

"I gather the rest of you did a more thorough search - I'd be interested to hear about that."

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"Well! That was... not great. Shall we got get some food and drink and talk about what happened?"

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"Angus?" asks Aramsmes.

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Arasmes squints into the bright sunlight of dwindling evening.
[ooc]Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"Sorry Taltosh - not sure what came over me" Arasmes grins "Felt like I got possessed by the spirit of my grandfather. All I need now are long robes, a scholar's hat and chalk dust!"

Arasmes seems much more cheerful now, but he surreptitiously checks his weapons.

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"Perhaps - or perhaps we are being herded into lightless cavern where the Haemovore waits for us. That would be fairly standard - if predictable - behaviour."

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"We have to get what we came for."

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Arasmes follows Marie
With our luck, she'll get killed and we'll be trapped and clueless.

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Arasmes bolts through

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Arasmes is trying to find a place outside of the channel range of the clerics...

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"Something doesn't feel right about this" Arasmes grumbles but retreats, turning back and pausing as his companions pass, then ordering "destroy anything that follows me" at his new Animate

If this conflicts with existing orders I may have to make a cha roll

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

On my go: Strength 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20 to push my way past the beams

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Arasmes continues to struggle to break free

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Pcr 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 - hey - Arasmes is still trapped, right?

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"Move this beam!" Arasmes commands
Looking to use the zombie to make it easier for us trapped folk to get out. Aid another? It is possible to use strength instead?
Arasmes grabs hold of a rock
"Gryf! I'm going to move this, and the animate'll move the beam. When we do, wriggle like your life depends on it!"
Aid Another: Gryff's escape artist 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (12) - 4 = 8

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Player is not sure - but Arasmes would work on the assumption it will.

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

seeing a drop of potent holy water land a few feet from him, Arasmes struggles to get free, then pauses and looks at the zombies

"Put away your weapons!" he orders, channeling the dark behind his voice.
command undead dc 15 - just need one to fail, as that's about all I can control. I assume the escape artist is a standard action, but just in case here it is untrained with acp 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Me too!

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Standing next to Taltosh, Arasmes was studying the stench, trying to deduce what they faced, when the ceiling caved in.Reflex:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

"I'll come with you" Arasmes offers, following his hooded companion.

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Arasmes wordlessly hands the book to Taltosh

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

DM:
Casually start "reading" it, and keep wandering. Aim to end up near Taltosh.

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Arasmes realises his presence is not helping and starts drifting around the room, poking and prying while the others talk.

Guidance, Detect Magic. Try taking 20, if can't try taking 10, if stressful roll.
Perception (take 20=24) (take 10=14) 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Just seemed like Arasmes needed to take a step back while people talked Marie round

Male Dhampir Cleric (Undead Lord) 2

Gryfford is trying to get her to trust me. The hate of the Light for the Dark is strong in her, I think.

"Well, there's a long story, a short story and a short-short story. I can see by Gryff's expression he wants the short-short story though."

"Once upon a time there was an evil Haeomvore. He wanted an amulet that would let him do bad things. This amulet was hidden somewhere. A group of brave heroes tracked down clues to get to the amulet first. The clues all pointed to an old church. The heroes went in to the church, and there they found a girl already there, hiding behind a locked door."

"'Let us in!' Cried the heroes, but the girl said no. Again and again the heroes tried to reason with her, but still she said no. Finally Alexia got the unrelentingly handsome Gryff to break down the door! But alas! The girl was knocked out! Quick Arasmes leapt forward and healed her by channeling the power of the Dark!"

Arasmes sighs

"I'm sworn to this quest, and I keep my word. You don't have to like me Marie, you don't even have to trust me. You can trust my companions though. They're a bit naive, but they're trying to save people."
