First I'll give you the situation, then the question.
I have a small group of new players. Actually it's two new players because the third never shows up and the rest have moved away. One of the two is playing a lvl 5 Half-Silver Dragon/Half-Elf female ranger the other is playing a lvl 5 Half-Fiend/Half-Orc male fighter. The fighter has played before...kinda, but it's been awhile. They aren't very bright and there ignorance might cost the prince his life as well cost us the campaign. I have not started them in the AoW campaign because they are new, I plan on killing there charecters and starting them in it with new ones when they get ahold of the game I and the first installments that I'm missing. Anyways, one of the NPCs that I have brought into Alhaster is actually my own character. A noble-hating level 41 Drow ranger. No, they can't beat him, but they don't have to. They have met him, one of them saw him running away from the scene of the first assassination attepmt on the prince's life. There characters haven't been able to put two and two together yet, though. They new who he is because they are personally familiar with him. One of the two, the one running the fighter, used to play a Hafling rogue whom I carried to lvl 37 because he didn't show up to most of the sessions.
They know that the prince's life is in danger, they think it's over a particular item that was hidden in his carraige. One of them saw Prince Zeech flee the broken carriage, followed shortly by a dark figure that dissapeered into the houses. They have met the dark figure on several occasion, once under the name of Jake Duron he saved the fighter from becoming a Spawn of Kyuss (I love undead, and the Spawns are my favorite. I'm rooting for Kyuss in this capmaign) after the fighter had been released from prison. He also has a deal with the owner of one of the taverns, under the guise of one called Siemz. Supplying the barkeep with an extrememly potent liqour. The ranger and her sister, a lvl 5 Half-White Dragon/Half-Elf wizard(the one who never shows up), have both ran payment to the figure.
The prince refuses to cancel his 15-year party, and they can think of no way into it. What should I do if the prince is killed do to our ignorance. Yes, I blam myself aswell for over estmimating there problem-solving abilities. Also, I have brought in another friend with much game experience. He still plays 2nd Edition ADnD with family every other weekend. He's going to run a lvl 5 Half-Celesial/Half-Dwarf male cleric of Pelor.
I now see I have forgotten something else. They are currently stuck in Alhaster because of a war. The one who started the war happens to be a necromancer who is currently in Alhaster and who is also the reason for the near-death of the fighter. As such the cleric has started out with a Shocking Burst Heavy Mace of Disruption. Actually, the reason for the mace, aswell as the Ring of Cure Serious wounds, is the fact that the fighter and ranger almost died at the hands of three Mohrgs. While Half-Dragons are immune to paralyzation, the fighter found out that Half-Fiends aren't the hard way and was tossed out of a second story window by the ranger.
I think I have included everything now...I'll make sure to say something if I realize I didn't.
