But how would you remember what you were digging for, or how to make a Golem...?

I...forget. Why are my hands all dirty???

Digging it!

Now it'll feel even more natural to throw my Carcosan gates in an adv, mayhaps with some emerging Stygian Golem (yes, that's the Styx, made from clay ripped from its banks!)

Hastur, here we come!

For real. I work at a Blockbuster in NE Louisiana, and most nights, I can walk the aisles and find that people have turned around coverboxes depicting things they feel are "inappropriate."

I'd just like to say that done right, a higher maturity level does add something to an adventure or story, and I hope this thread doesn't put you off so that you decide never to feature R-rated content again.

I concur. Also, as Twiceborn said above, moderation is the key.

I found the whole Adventure as an uninspired nearly 1:1 copy of certain horror movies and tv series. There was nothing new, nothing interesting, no twist, no special features - just a simple implementation of scenes and pictures from those movies into a loosely connected roleplaying scenario

My thoughts on HMM exactly, and to those who have seen such films, the Grauls will seem trite or at worst case, silly.

I was hoping for something more along the lines of the cover - epic combat on a fantastic locale. Gonna downplay the inbred-ness and bring out the dam battle.

The artwork has been consistently less than stellar (except for WAR's covers,) when compared to Dungeon, IMO. Overall, the most disappointing aspect of Pathfinder for me.

I'd love to see more art along the lines of the Paladins of Greyhawk articles, or the Zuggtmoy Demonomicon article, or even Kieran Yanner's work.

My gold pieces are on Gnomes doing the "Burning Man," roasting people and other Druidic type stuff for Gozreh to keep the Sanos Forest lush and fertile. I think blood and sex magick, swapping partners while painting each other head-to-toe in gold paint and wearing masks, getting wild animals involved (or at least watching). At the climax of the rituals, it rains blood, which causes a frenzy to seek out the lame, diseased, and "out-of-place" to cull from their forest.

Very cool treatment of the little buggers. Making me take another look at them now.

I am a huge fan of a lot of incredibly gory films (and I'm not talking of Saw or Hostel,) and I've even seen a decent smattering of real torture porn ( dead locust blow-jobs, for example.) But, I do think scaling back on the WTF-ness is a good idea, mainly for overexposure purposes. The players will become numb to the imagery, and I like such things to stay nice and sharp. Less can be more. (I'm trying to remember this in all aspects of my campaign, as well.)

FWIW, I don't like the take on the Grauls. Comes off as just a little too comedic for my tastes.

Cool handout! Who knew Jacques Coustaeu called kip in ol' Sandpoint? (could make for an interesting npc, actually!)

Is there any chance of a lost treasure type? Say starting the characters as interns for the Pathfinder assoc. Where there goal is to gather items that make something like Rod of the Seven parts.

Would anyone else like to see one like this? Thought it might be a good way as well to show the players more of the world.

I'd love something akin to Rod of Seven Parts.

Heh. One of the selling points of Pathfinder for me was that there was no setting book. I like the "learn as you go" approach. Keeps everything interesting and fresh. I suspect though, by the time this is out, it'll be quite welcomed by me.

I'm likely going the route of 4E, at least the portions I like of it, so I would probably prefer that system version. Even if its 3.5, then I can still convert as I need. Systemless would even be an interesting approach.

One demand to get my dollar - Please have lots of great artwork of places and scenes of the world. I can never have enough illustrations of buildings and complexes to show the players.

It's because of this reason I won't surf the Curse of the Crimson Throne threads since I'll switch and be the player for a change, and I forbid my player from scanning the RotRL threads. Having AP's split between "DM" and "Player" sections would be an ideal solution as Shisumo mentions, and I would urge for such a resolution.

I concur. Me and another guy are swapping out as dm for the adventure paths (me the first, him the second.) I have avoided reading the blurbs about the second path's modules, but I have seen some minor spoilers on these boards (in this section, but regarding the second adv path.)

Please keep spoilers limited to the particular path that they reveal.

Oh, yeah, maybe make it 4-panel as opposed to the usual 3...

Don't really need a new screen, but if it had new WAR art (ie, not just one of the covers, but totally original,) then I'd relent.

I am planning on using Brodert Quink to throw a little more info towards the players regarding the Runelords. They already obliged me by bringing him some scavenged pages from the Catacombs. Oughta lead into some cool tidbits.

I do have a little bit of a criticism to offer, James. I did read your post above about this being a typical d&d adventure, but even still, I think some elements are suffering from overuse.

Spoiler:
1.goblins in part 1, ok, but there's even goblin zombies in pt 2.
2.lamia matriarch in part 2, but wait, theres one in part 3
3. there's a stone giant, but again, isn't that what the pcs will be facing in part 4?
My players have had quite enough with goblins, and they let me know it. I just hope this isn't typical of every issue/adv path.

My players are still trying to cope with the "frustrating pillows" from Thisletop.

Decent suggestions...

I'd add, that the burn-damaged areas "heal" themselves with the phage mold.

Thinking of the house in these terms also evokes images of the Dionaea House...

One of my players took the challenge--and failed!!! He spent the next few hours sick and heaving (and fighting off the advances of one determined Venders girl.)

AND HE PLANS ON GOING BACK TO TRY AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

Heh heh hehe...

I'm going to run The Skinsaw Murders soon and I have a question about the manor house. I like to plan ahead for worst case scenarios my PCs could come up with and one thing I thought is what happens if the PCs come to the manor house, check things out from the outside and they just decide to follow the example set by the ruined outbuilding, take some torches and set the whole thing on fire without ever stepping inside? Will it not break the module, since the clues to continue are inside the house?

Heh. the same thought jumped in my head as I read the Misgivings section. Gonna hafta find a workaround for that very possible circumstance.

3.5 or 4.0, I will likely stay on with Pathfinder. However, I have zero interest in a "3.75" edition. I've been running that version for quite awhile now.

Don't let disappointment with WotC's treatment of fluff, which frankly, doesn't necessarily even have a place within Pathfinder's setting, determine your decision whether to change or not.

Personally, I've already started installing rules elements that I like from 4e into my game. (I figure I'm probably at 3.85 or so now.) I do enjoy most of what I've seen about 4e, but I will not know about a full switch until I see the books.

I'm not digging Hemlock's pic( far more lumpy than I'd imagined,) or Ironbriar's (will make my players laugh.)

I do like the Skinsaw cultist pic, and the masks images are really great! I'm 50/50 on the matriarch's pic.

British Public Information films from the 1970s.

The very worst example though, was an absolutely appalling film called "The Spirit of Dark and Lonely Water".

Thanks for reminding me of these. I read about them in a Bizarre Magazine a few years ago. The stills of Spirit/Dark Water were creepy by themselves. These films just come off as wrong. Also see- Protect and Survive

Here's a creepy little flick (not on dvd yet, though, that I'm aware of.)
Eyes of Fire

I'm in it for the glaive.

I have made several changes...

Many names...Didn't care at all for the Minkai names, so made them a little more standard. Korovus had to go, just cause it kept making me think of Korvosa.

Art...Like many others have voiced, Shalelu's pic just wasn't to my liking, so I found another one that suited her more. Korovus was a tad too silly looking, so I altered his image a bit. Sinspawn's pic was good, but just didn't seem right. I'm using an altered Saihar(Denizens of Avadnu) pic in its place.

Creatures...Goodbye quasit, hello Gadacro (MMV). The barghest is going too, but still finalizing just what its equivalent will be. Also losing the human henchmen, as they just felt glaringly out of place. Going gobbo with their replacements.

Selk wrote:

I've already kind of named them in my campaign. I created an organization, a branch of the church of Abadar, called The Bursers of the First Vault. They maintain the mints in Korvosa and Magnimar at the King and Lord-Mayor's pleasure, but neither would publicly censure them for fear of economic instability. Most wealthy Chelaxians claim to trust in the providence of Abadar, at least publicly. Both cities mint gold and silver, but only Korvosa circulates platinum, due to a Byzantine contract signed during the panicked, speculative era after Aroden's death.

Dukes = Gold pieces. Has the gold fist of Abadar on one side and either a galleon (for Korvosa) or a raven (for Magnimar) on the other. They're called dukes either as slang for fist or as a reference to royal bribes. No one really knows.

Beauties or Fingers = Silver pieces. Has the profile of past and current queens (for Korvosa) and the profile of some notable, usually beautiful, woman (for Magnimar). These coins betray a sort of beauty pageant rivalry between the two cities. Both coins feature galleons on the reverse side. Some regions call them fingers because there are ten to a gold.

Sparks = Copper pieces. Pressed with an anvil on one side and stylized flames on the other. Minted almost exclusively in Janderhoff and traded in large, almost unnecessary volume. A common sentiment is that the dwarves of Janderhoff cannot bear to part with gold and silver and return copper in kind.

That’s what I’m using for the time being anyway.

WOW! Nice work! Gonna borrow this...

SO many thanks!

In a 3.5 remix of Keep on the Borderlands, I had Nilbogs cast as worshippers of Hastur. They set fire to themselves and leapt from higher caves down upon the pcs after ritually murdering their own females and children...They were a little crazy.

Haven't given any thought to them being in Golarion though.

I was thinking about setting a potential sidequest in the Devil's Platter area (treasure map to be found in the Catacombs that points here...)

I actually didn't connect it to the Sandpoint Devil at all, but now that you write it, it seems likely.

I was wondering the same thing. Just doesn't seem like a lucratve enough area for such an organization. I don't see Sandpoint as a big enough port to bring illegal cargo into. Maybe the szcarni are closer to a street gang than a mob-type of outfit?

My group...

Killoren druid with jackyl companion
Elven dragon shaman
Xeph rogue
Chelaxian sublime marksman

Since the end of predestination is intrinsic to Pathfinder's central conceit, will there be mechanical rules dealing with divination spells particular to Golarion ?

Where was this mentioned? Guess I missed it...

I may have missed it in previous threads but what does Golarian's moon look like in the night sky? Is it a dull blue, a bright white, or a black orb with sparkles of red from 10,001 volcanos. Also, what do the people of Golarion call the moon? Is it just the moon or does it have a more "fantastic" name?

I'd also like to hear some input on this.

Erik Mona wrote:

In addition to the moon, which has a very interesting story behind it, two additional inhabited worlds loom large on the horizons of Golarion. The green planet, which I'm currently calling Castrovel, is covered with swamps and forests and weird gaseous seas. The red planet doesn't have a name yet, but it will use Edgar Rice Burroughs and Otis Adelbert Kline's Mars novels as a basis in the same way Golarion proper is based on pulp sword and sorcery. Psionics will certainly be common on Castrovel, and perhaps on the red planet as well.

It will be possible to travel there by thought, or on some sort of beam, or whatever. Each of these worlds will certainly include airships, but it remains to be seen whether or not you can take a trip between worlds on them.

We plan to publish at least one GameMastery Module on each of these worlds, and if there is a genuine audience for this type of play I could be very easily convinced to schedule more and larger products in this vein.

YES!!!!

Thanx for the maps!

Please, let's have some psionic content, even if only a little.

Matthew Morris wrote:

a Xeph psion? Don't forget the metacap.

No, actually, a rogue.

Fenwalls? Hmm. could lead to a juicy tie-in the the Face Pyramid...

Also thinking about the Malgorian Mountains...

Thanx again.

Necromancer used to be distributed by Sword and Sorcery, the fantasy d20 arm of White Wolf. Two separate companies.

You do not have to own the specific books they are pulling from, since they are reprinting everything you need to run the material from said book.

Sweet!

And, no, I'm not Anonymous Coward #28 :)

Thanx for the welcome to the boards. I couldn't change my name for the message boards, so I went with an anonymous one, which I think you can change after so many posts...

The reason I asked the above question, is because the post above Erik's asked for a large poster map of Varisia (print.) I was asking for a map of Golarion (not necessarily print.)

This brings me to two questions for the Pathfinder crew (and anyone else with creative input to offer.)

1.Where is a good location for the Crystal Rift's (from Xeph's racial description, XPH,) placement in Varisia?

and
2.Do psionics have a role in Golarion? (not just a sly way of asking if there will be psionic content in future Pathfinders... ;)

Ok, I lied. One more question. My group will not have an arcane caster it seems. Is there any part upcoming in the first adv path that will need some close scrutiny as far as this goes?

Thanx in advance!

Erik Mona wrote:

This map will first appear in January's "Pathfinder Chronicles Gazetter," and is currently in "draft" condition.

--Erik

You referring to a Golarion map, or just a big Varisia map? I'm so wanting a Golarion map...

I just know this is gonna make use of the Merge Into Art spell from Eldritch Sorcery.

Or at least I might...
