Andrei sighed, wiping his hand on his pants. "Well, I suppose it is enough that we have witnesses, neh?" He smiled at the townsfolk, looking for some faces in particular, but he knew the chance that his family were there was small. "Let's collect our fee for a job well done, what do you say, my friends?" The sentiment seemed to have a lot more sincerity behind it than the first time he'd used it. Andrei slapped Jawn on the back and grinned at the others, even as he went with Cerinwë to ascertain that the monster wouldn't rise again. (Assuming it is dead:) He fished up the thing's head and nodded to Mijanor. "As you said, the mayor. I tell you, the look on his face when he sees this, it will be a fine thing." "Grab onto the flotsam!" Andrei yelled to the townsfolk, hoping it would be enough to aid those who couldn't swim. He didn't consider leaping into the water to help them - his armor would have dragged him down immediately, and the wretched monster wasn't dead yet. He continued to press the attack, cursing his lack of foresight at not getting between the monster and the dock when he had the chance. attack 1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23
pot.dmg.1: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13+2d6 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
"Go back to whatever hell you came from!" Andrei yelled, chopping at the monster and parrying its retaliatory tentacle strikes in a strangely graceful dance, trying to distract it from Jawn. attack 1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32
pot.dmg.1: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11+2d6 ⇒ (2, 3) = 5
Andrei felt the surge of energy rolling in a wave from Mijanor, and his eyes cleared of their haze of pain. Determined to kill the vile monster the idiot Keepers had summoned, he redoubled his efforts. attack 1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
pot.dmg.1: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15+2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10
If Jawn moves in, Andrei will 5' step north to help him. Andrei tore himself free of the thing's tentacles, staggering under the impact of their blows. If they didn't deal with it soon, he knew, he wouldn't live to see the sun rise over the misty wilderness again. "My thanks to you and your god, Mijanor!" he called, no trace of his thoughts in his tone. "Once we've put this monster down, I'll raise a tankard to the both of you!" He drove his sword into the beast's hide again. attack 1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
pot.dmg.1: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13+2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
I'll 5' step if it helps Jawn. Sorry guys, I came down with a massive fever and was stuck in bed with the mocus. :( Andrei waited for Cerinwë's magic to stop sparking before slashing at the thing again, his face set with black fury at the murderous monster. "Let there be an end to this evil, let it die on the end of our swords!" Full attack:
"It is a sad thing when the madmen are the ones let loose in the sanatorium. Let us ensure that no more of his sort," Andrei nudged the fallen mage with his foot, "are torturing the patients of this place before we look for clues. It is the least we can do to see that they do not suffer any more than necessary." He shrugged. "It will also ensure that no one takes an opportunity to backstab us while we're busy looking." Following Mijanor's example, Andrei attempted to bull his way past the guards in pursuit of the mage. Overrun: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 If the armed guard goes down due to Cerinwë's magic missiles first, Andrei just chases the mage. If he catches up to him, he attacks. potential attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Andrei dashed after the bloodstained mage with his sword held ready, a stream of colorful curses revealing where he had run. He took the stairs two and three at a time, hoping to catch the villain before he could bring any backup to bear. Keep after the mage, and make another attack if he catches up. possible attack:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
Cerinwë: Oui, I mean yes, you're right. ;) "A secret passage! Mijanor, with me!" Andrei charges full tilt after the mage, hoping nothing nasty has been prepared for such an eventuality. If Andrei catches up to the mage he'll make an attack. possible attack:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Andrei grimaced at the poor victims of the torturer; it was clear there was little more they could do to help them. "We will do what we can to see that you are given the healing you need," he promised, trying to reassure them. As he walked by the headless corpse, he gave it a final angry kick. "Crove has much to answer for," he growled, glaring at Rupman. "Again I ask: Where can we find him?" I vote we try the northern passage closest to us next. Still enraged by the cruelty he'd seen, Andrei nevertheless held his attack when Mijanor offered the blue creature a chance to surrender. "One move, and you'll look worse than these poor sods," he promised darkly, his sword held ready to deliver on his promise. Readied attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Roll to confirm crit:1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Even as the others spoke, Andrei burst in with Mijanor and without hesitation laid into the blue humanoid. "Die, you filth!" he hissed, enraged by the evidence of torture he'd seen ever since coming to the asylum. Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
If the torturer is an aberration he has +12 to hit and +2d6 damage. "I agree," Andrei said quietly, nodding at Cerinwë. He moved up to one of the western doors, ready to open them and face whatever lay beyond at his companions' signal. Looking at them, he asked, "Is everyone ready?" Maybe we should just open one door and use the other for cover until we know what's behind them? Andrei obligingly brought out his everburning torch and passed it to Jawn. "Yes, let us see what lies below this crazy place." He gave the patients a pitying look; however mad they were, they didn't deserve this treatment. He's prepared to lead or follow Jawn downstairs, whichever seems better. If the inmates attack, though, he'll try to knock them out with the flat of his sword again. "Back up, let them come at you one by one," Andrei suggested, moving back to give Jawn room. Raising his voice, he addressed the guards. "We have business with Crove. If you keep us from it, you'll have to answer for it to the mayor. If you keep fighting us... well, there are worse things than facing the mayor, neh?" He raised his sword and beckoned them on, wearing an evil grin. Andrei takes a 5' step back. If Jawn withdraws, he'll keep the guards busy. Intimidate attempt: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 Glancing back to find that Jawn wasn't using the soft approach with the guards, and seeing that more were on their way in, Andrei hammered his foe with the flat of his blade again, hoping to drop him so that he could aid Jawn instead. Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25-4
Andrei wrinkled his nose at the man, dragging him into a chair. "This poor sot looks more like a vagabond than anyone that belongs in an asylum, unless this is how all their patients look." He glanced around at the myriad books lining the walls. "Unless you think there is something worthwhile hidden amid all this, perhaps we should move on." Andrei wiped off his blade, but kept it in hand. He nodded at the others' words. "I think it best that we stopped this one before he could cry an alarm, but you are right - perhaps any others are best captured rather than killed." He glanced at the doors, then looked to Jawn. "Are those doors safe, my friend?" Andrei accepted the sword with thanks to the poor soaked halfling. "Soon I must open a shop to sell all these swords, neh?" he joked, fixing the sheath of the sword to his back. He patted his scimitar regretfully. "Poor Rushenka knows that she may not protect us as well as this new blade might. But the other scimitar - ah, that might make a hook big enough for so big a mouth as our friend the worm here." He glared threateningly at Rupman. "Our survival is your survival, so you had best be silent unless what you say may be of help to us." To the asylum? Wiping off his blade, Andrei resheathed it and gave the dead body a disgusted look. "He should have surrendered. Why did Hyve not surrender, Rupman? And this piece of the spawn you spoke of, does it still remain within him now that he is dead?" After hearing what Hyve's notes said about the potions, he grunted. "Maybe we could use them against the spawn, if you think it safe. Will you take them?" Andrei grunted agreement. "It seems dwarves are as wise as they are a boon in battle. Come Jawn, you go down first, then I will follow, then we will take the mage between us all, neh? That way there will be two of us to watch over him at either end of the ladder. But let us go quietly... and that goes for you too," he said to the Keeper with distaste. Andrei is also willing to go down first if you prefer. I would like to bump up Andrei's AC closer to Mijanor's with the ring if everyone is OK with it. Andrei shrugged, deferring to the group consensus. "Then let us be about it, before the thing has time to lay more of the city to waste." He murmured a command to his sword, and the flames died out once more. "You," he addressed the Keeper grimly, "come with us, and try nothing stupid." Andrei moved a little away for privacy to discuss the matter. "If Crove is the ringleader, let us find him first. He is at the asylum, yes?" Lowering his voice further, he added, "If we have both of them there together, it may serve as irresistable bait for the spawn." Is there anywhere in the city without access from below, where the spawn would be forced to come into the open? Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
