Amphian's page

These tiles are the same quality and style as the Dungeon Tiles Master Set—Wilderness and mesh well with that set. They do not come with their own box, but can be added to the Wilderness box, since there is extra room in it, if you have both. The tiles have a background with a mix of grass and bushes, trees, small rocks, and marshy water (blue areas and areas with green plants in the water). Several tiles have ugly one square thick "walls" that are just flat black.

The reasons I took off one star:
- The ugly, thick black "walls" don't blend with anything else. It would be better if they had a texture top instead of flat black.
- It would have been nice to have an 8 x 8 (I'd trade the pond one.) or another 8 x 4 (I'd trade the "wall" one.) be more open water (maybe with plants near the edges on the 8 x 8) to allow for building a bigger pond with a center too deep to walk over.
- The shoreline pieces tend to have the land run up to the corners diagonally, making "points" on the shoreline if you try to match them up. I think having them stop one unit from the edge would have worked better.

I haven't gotten the map packs before because with them not laminated until this set, they were just too thin and vulnerable to damage. The laminating solves this problem completely - these are nice and thick. The art is absolutely gorgeous and full of little details that really set the scene. I am particularly thrilled by the multilevel buildings in this set. Please, please make more multilevel buildings. ( I would buy the Wizard's Tower in a heartbeat if it were laminated.) I also got the City Streets flip-mat that matches these and the whole effect is extremely well done. I'd be interested in more map pack / flip - map combinations.

The tiles are nice and heavy and it would take more than a little carelessness to bend them or a single beverage spill to ruin them. The artwork is extremely well done. Overall this seems to be a product that will withstand a lot of use and which is so good-looking it will get used. I got this kit along with a flip-mat with a grass background to give me a lot of flexibility in laying out the pieces.

While I normally have something mapped out if I have a planned encounter in a building or cave, random encounters on the road end up with a hastily drawn path, a couple of scrawled trees and and a circle for a pond. I was hesitant to get these tiles because "10 pages of tiles" doesn't really tell you much. I'm glad I got them, and I want to list what comes in the set in case anyone else is wavering based on not really knowing what is in the box.

The box front and back are 9 x 12 grids of grassland, each with a tree and some rocks. These have similar elements, but are not duplicates of the same graphic, so you can use them both side by side. One half of the box is two inches of vertical height, and one half is one inch, so you can use them to make abrupt small cliff. (The sides of the box look like stone or dirt.) Unless otherwise noted, all of the tiles below have backgrounds of grass and rocks and usually trees. (Fire tiles are often an exception to this.) All creek and road pieces are unique, not duplicated images.
