Alviss Haftbreaker is a dwarven fighter of the Ninth Battalion, originally from a settlement in the Mindspin Mountains that was destroyed by Orcs. He comes from a line of many smiths of prowess. The first of the line was such a powerful dwarf that he broke many hafts of his forge hammers, thus the clan name.
Alviss himself is not an accomplished smith, though his most precious possessions, salvaged from his home delve, are two volumes of notes about smithing: wisdom writ by generations of his ancestors.
Unfortunately, there were several more volumes that were lost when the delve fell. He has read the journals many times and intends to teach himself to forge throwing axes.
Alviss has served ably in the Ninth Battalion and is being considered for squad leader. As a proof of worthiness, candidates for such leadership positions are required to perform some task chosen by General Charak Helmrunner himself.
In Alviss’ case, he has been ordered to search for a party of Pathfinders lost in the Aspodells, searching for the lost dwarven crafthall of Barek Triongger. The Pathfinders themselves had been searching for a party that also disappeared searching for the Hall.
He will be joined by two other members of the Ninth, and with an Aspodell Ranger as guide, will seek out the Hall and the missing Pathfinders. His performance in this mission will significantly affect his future within the Ninth.
He enters combat with a battle axe and shield, often following in behind the two throwing axes he lets fly first.
