I'm DM'ing for a slightly silly bunch of PCs. I had them "charter" their adventuring party early on, and the name they came up with was (sigh) WYLD STALLIONS! There's even a Wyld Stallions logo, which I should preface by saying that the party druid lugged a table from the Malachite Fortress all the way back to the surface for use as some kind of tactical tower shield. He's hired a person to carry/drag it for him, and attached a ladder to one side. It's come in handy a couple times, at the cost of blowing any chance of ever moving silently.

I haven't changed the ELs, so yes, the wealth of the characters has kept their strength in check to some degree. However, everyone in my group also plays in another campaign with a different DM that is really high-powered. (My wizard in that campaign has a greater metamagic rod of quicken and one of empower, a constelation of ioun stones around his head, and more staves than he can carry, at level 12). It's like culture shock for them to be suddenly "underpowered". I'm afraid some characters are loosing interest.

So, I think I'll take Walter's suggestion and work in some more specific magic items as treasure. If that makes them world-beaters, I'll just have to make a tougher world ;)

Thanks. I guess they did make short enough work of Drakthar, and their percieved lack of gear hasn't kept them from splitting up the party (although we did have our first PC death when one wandered into the shocker lizard lair alone). I think I will do the audit you suggested.

I know there's been a couple threads on this, but I want to make sure. My Shackled City campaign has expanded to 7 players now, and one complaint I get a lot is that they are living in PC poverty. Compared to the charts in the DMG on character wealth by level, they are probably a couple levels behind. We're finishing Drakthar's Way now, and they were pitching in to buy silvered weapons.

Is this simply due to the treasure being split 7 ways, or should I be rolling extra treasure with each encounter off the random treasure tables? My personaly opinion is that the shortage of funds is the only thing keeping this large party's power in check. Any ideas?
