Aldel doesn't know much about his parents, only that his mother was an elf and died in childbirth. Aldel's father tried, but he found that he couldn't handle the constant reminder of his loss that the child provided, and turned him over to the Sandpoint Chapel, and once there he was given over to Abstalar Zantus. Raised as he was in a temple that revered six different gods, he could have chose any of them to serve, but instead he chose Desna, the Goddess of his adoptive father. Zantus raised him as a son, though he couldn't help but notice that Aldel seemed to believe that others looked down on him for being a half-elf. Regardless, as a ward of the church, Aldel was raised and trained to become a leader of it.
After the events of the Late Unpleasantness, he confessed to Zantus that he didn't feel worthy of leading the church. He also said that he felt that he could better serve Desna as an Inquisitor. Surprisingly enough, Zantas agreed, and sent him to Magnimar for the next few years, to train under a retired Inquisitor of Desna.
When he arrived, the man was not what Aldel was expecting, He was old, and bent with a missing left arm. But he was still strong, and fast. First, the old man sent him to the church of Iomedae for a few weeks, to train and spar with the Paladin trainees, and then the old man taught Aldel the flaws in so regimented a fighting style. He taught Aldel that Desna hates violence, even among her Inquisitors, so that he should takes steps to end every fight as quickly and brutally as possible, to prevent others from starting. During his time in Magnimar, Aldel managed to buy an Elven Curve Blade, spending a good deal of his money on it. He trained incessantly with it, until he knew it like the back of his hand. Along with his starknife, which he considers a badge of office more than a weapon, the blade is his most prized possession, as it symbolizes the heritage he wishes to claim.
Aldel has been back in Sandpoint for about a year to finish his training and officially become an inquisitor. Since his return, most of his free time has been spent out in the woods with Shalelu. He has always admired her, but it wasn't until recently that he had the courage to seek her out. She seemed fairly pleased with his company as well, she began teaching him some of the survival skills she picked up along the way.
Aldel is something of an introvert that has pledged his service to the god of fellowship. He knows on some level that his sense of persecution, the reason for his bitterness, is in his head, and he's hoping that if he basically dives headfirst into a situation where he has to be friendly and nice then maybe he will be able to mean it eventually. He's also into the travel aspect, because if he can't change around the people who have known him his whole life, maybe he can keep moving until his neighbors have forgotten him. Then he'll be free to change and come back as someone new.
Also, his views on other races is somewhat nuanced. He has a certain amount of disgust for humans because his father abandonded him to the church, but at the same time he accepts that his true father is Abstalar Zantus, another human. If a half orc seems to have overcome the evil in his blood, Aldel will consider him something of a kindred spirit, though he will likely keep it to himself. On the other hand, he has a great deal of respect for elves, almost reverence for them.
