I challenge all of you ladies and Gents to come up with a stat block for Santa Clause. Keep it pretty basic, nothing too complicated. A friend of mine suggested. Ranger 10/Barbarian 10
That is just a start. More to come later, I hope. Right now I am playing a Dwarven Pally of Torag. Fantastic when he is in combat, but after the last session i just realized that he is a bit under equipped to handle anything else, during one of the last fights he spent the entire fight struggling to stay afloat after the wharf he was on disappeared and another bad guy jumped on top of him. Since I was in full plate, swimming was difficult. Any tips on how to equip him so he doesn't have that problem again would be great.
I know there is a similar thread out there right now, so I will keep this brief. Currenty a 6th level paladin. I have about 22000 gp to spend in Riddleport. this is what I have so far:
I end up in the water a lot, and need to improve my ability to get around quicker especially at people who are far away, and improve my charisma or my strength. Thanks for the input. Quick question.
I am looking into taking the Oath of vengeance for my Pally, however, I can't find the code of conduct. I have no problems making one up, such as
1) So, is there an actual code for this one like the others or was it left out intentionally? 2) What should be included in the code if I need to make one up? thanks
I am currently trying to improve my writing, in the grand hopes one day to do a book. I know I am not the first person to do or think this, as a book is a monumental task that involves a lot of your life.
Do any of you wonderful ladies and gents have any advice on this?
we as a group have house ruled that Criticals just multiply the damage dice on a weapon. It makes for drawn out fights but also makes us use our abilities in different ways. Keeping that in mind I am currently a paladin with a nodachi. we just reached third level and I am in need of some help choosing a feat. here is what I am thinking 1-Power Attack
Also I have the opportunity of getting an Adamantine Nodachi shortly. Any help on feat selection is greatly appreciated. Just a quick poll I suppose. I am playing a paladin and was wonderng what weapon would be best. I have a toss up of a Great Axe, Great Sword or a Nodachi. I know that the greatsword and great Axe have the most damage potential, but the Nodachi has the brace quality and the higher crit range. What do you guys think? Is the higheer crit range more important? Or is it easily offset by the higher damage of the other two weapons? Basic team is so far is oracle who can channel, a straight mage, Gunslinger, and a monk. My character concept is something in the likeness of Druss (David Gemmel). My real question is who would be better a Ranger or a Paladin. I know for the most part it is just personal preference. I am 50/50 either way. I think it would be nice to smite evil, but really is it necessary? we are doing the Second Darkness adventure path so who knows? I know that there are not any real melee characters in the party so we need a striker from what I can tell, the mage and the Gunslinger will have the ranged opponents screaming so Melee is the prime idea. Also I will be using a great axe no matter which class I pick, I can hear the groans of disapproval but then again, it is all about flavour for me. Some advice and personal insight from others is greatly welcomed. Thanks Hello Ladys and Gents, just wondering if I can pick your brains for a good PC to play for Second Darkness. I would like to have good roleplaying possibilities and a decent fighter type. The group consists of a monk, oracle, mage, and figter (ranged). I am a bit torn between paladin, ranger, or a fighter. I guess I basically just want to have a valiant warrior type character. You know the first one in and last one out type of deal.
I look forward to your input.
P.S. I have already played a Paladin in 2E, and a Monk in 3E Just looking for some advice. So far what is happening is that a Demon General of Baphomet's is trying to bring about Dragon Fall. Defeating Karzoug is basically just a primer for the end of it all. Though Karzoug is a tremendous threat I want the party to feel as if Karzoug is secondary only to this immenient threat of the destruction of the whole world as they know it. I see them finding commrades in some areas that they have visited, such as the Kodar moutains...in the guise of a good Half-fiend who also happens to be the general's half brother, who now rules over a group of misfits including outcast Dwarf's trying to regain their honor and half-orcs just trying to get by. There is also an entity known as Pathfinder who, with the help of Neutral Green and Blue dragons are trying to keep dragon fall from happening before its time. I envision Pathfinder as a druid esque type of entity and the Dragons that help him are there for extra support they basically try and keep things going the way they are suppose to and only interfer indirectly when something catastrophic could possibly happen. I am just asking if this seems like a good idea. Any suggestions/advice would be most welcome?
Thanks again in advance. Hey guys, just wanted some feedback. I am currently GM of a group that is doing phenomenal. I am a first time GM and they are all experienced players and say I am doing a great job. Apparently being prepared is over looked by certain GMs. They are doing the Rise of the Runelords Adventure path and are really enjoying it. THey really like how it is a world they have not experienced before and they don't know everything about it. My situation is this...the player of the rogue in the party says that he doesn't feel like he can really play the character the way he wants to, he would like to do more thief type things and create his own thieves guild or possibly take up root in one and eventually take it over. I have no problems with this at all. I have the perfect out for him. I have few adventures lined up for him so far, but I want to make sure they are appropriate. He is about level 9. And he has even said that he wants the guild to think he is of lower level than he actually is so I would suspect they would send him on a less important mission to "prove" his worth to the guild. I was thinking of sending him through the "Flight of the Red Raven" and then on the way back have him shipwrecked on Smuggler's Shiv and have him go from there. I think he will be mostly on his own for the first part but may pick up an NPC ally along the way. Does this sound decent? I am wondering what would you consider Dr. Who? Would he be a sorcerer, wizard, cleric? What would his focus be? I am trying to have a one on one adventure with a friend of mine and he will probably need some help, so I was thinking of throwing "Dr. Who" in there with him to help steer him the right way in certain situations or to add some plot hooks. I was thinking a Wizard (Transmuter, or Abjuration) I am DMing a group of pretty well versed players and the first thing they did when they got to sandpoint was to ask around about "adventure" They did so at Cracktooth's so there was a bit of drama in the story of the SandPoint Devil. Needless to say they are very eager to hunt it down. So much that I am trying to tie it into the game somehow. I have an NPC they found that had their loved ones take by it so they teamed up with them but I am trying to figure out what could be the link between the SandPoint Devil and the main bad guys. Any help would/advice/ideas would be great.
First I must thank you for all of the great things you have done for D&D. Your products are amazing and the best I have ever had. However, due to the little bundle of joy coming very soon, money will be very tight so I must unfortunately have my subscription to the Pathfinder Chronicles canceled immediately. So if you could remove the following from the present order as well that would be great. Pathfinder Chronicles: Campaign Setting (OGL) Hardcover
I may end up purchasing things like these later but as of right now my priorities have changed.
Okay so I have just got back online after a long few months of exams, correcting, more exams, more correcting and travel, and Dming. :) Yeah,it wasn't all bad, but I must say that I am a little confused. Are you still going to run things that involve written submissions by gamers? If you have already answered this question just point me in the right direction to figure it out. Thanks a lot, and I look forward to seeing this new Pathfinder in the flesh sort to speak. p.s. The chinese students at my school love their little lunch hour and a half D&D Club. 5 memembers now, I can't handle too many of the crazy teenagers. I read my Player's guide and DMG, but yet I still can't find my answer. So,now it is up to you to help me in my time of need. I could have sworn that there is a page in either book that says you can spend skill points to learn languages, on top of the ones you get for having a high intelligence. Is this true? I can't find it again, and I am a little aggrevated about it. Anyhelp will be greatly appreciated. Possibly even rewarded:) Thanks
I have been looking over the latest threads and some of the older ones and I have heard a lot about what people want to become. They want to multiclass as something or other or join this prestige class then another and then another. Nothing wrong with wanting to do that, all the power to you if you are having fun with it. But my question is this.
Does anyone just start off their character with a history and let them evolve naturally? I mean, do you let you character pick feats and things like that as they come up or do you prefer to have it laid out in advance? (i.e. at level 3 I want this feat then at 6 I want this etc...) I know I will get some good advice and things. Thanks
I just rolled up a character that i will be playing in an upcoming game when I get home for a few weeks. I have always played a lawful character, You know the kind that has a very regimental routine and obeyed almost every law that they heard of unless it was considered by them to be unjust or not right.
So i know how much you all love fantasy settings and this is one you have to go to if you ever get the chance to. In China they have a May week long holiday. So my wife and I decided to go to Haungshan. IT is in the south of China and it is amazing. It is also the home of Mount Huangshan, a hold mountain to the chinese. Being avid outdoor freaks we decided to climb this mountain! Boy were we stupid. The mountain is 1800m tall. The good news is that there are stairs cut and laid right into the side of this thing, the bad news is that there is very little in the way of spots to break, no off trail spots to rest or rather very few. So if the person in front of you stopped you did too, as in some spots there was nothing between you and a fall to your death but air. So we are on this mountain that was amazing, we looked up at the bottom and saw the mist surrounding the part we were going to climb and then when we reached the top 3 hours later we looked down at the mist covered valley, it was amazing to behold such a sight.
Well if you would like to see some of the pictures of this adventure go to www.flickr.com/photos/kirstenmike Later
P.S. If you want to see how they treat you after you come down off the wall go to the page 4 on that website. I swear I don't look like a Mongolian! As I was perusing (sp?) the titles of threads I thought instead of "Battle Cries" or "Origins of Avatar Names" why not family mottos. My family name is Kirkpatrick and our motto is "I mak Sur"
Apparently one of my descendants was escorting Robert the Bruce to meet with one of his rivals. Robert met the man in an inn or pub and then came out. Upon him seeing Robert my ancestor apparently asked something to the extent of "How did the meeting go?" Robert the Bruce apparently replied "I think I killed him." At which point my ancestor retorted "I will make sure." and thus finished the job and earned the family motto.(how true it is I have no idea)
Anyone else have something like that?
The best feat I believe for a first level charcter is Improved Initiative. Though Dodge and Weapon focus are pretty good choices as well.
Thanks
Well a friend has decided to start up a campaign. Yeah! haven't really played in about a few years. Well the problem is that i am in china and they are all in canada but I get to go home in July. He wants to start now and I said that is cool. So the idea is that i am either in communication with or stalking the party. Fine by me, I think it is pretty cool idea. I will email them and that will can be considered a communication that they have either received or intercepted.

Alright, now that I have the green light to give an adventure I need some advice for a first level campaign to get the kids really interested and exposed to most of the concepts of the game. I figure that I will introduce different skills and feats as they become pertinent. EX: The players have to swim across a river, therefore they are are exposed to how swimming works, One of the players has to jump a gap in order to secure a line to the other side for the other players to get across, et...
Thanks a million. I know there are people out there that like bards. But, what do they really offer? I have never played in a game where anyone wanted to be one. So for those of you out there that like them, and even if you don’t like them. I suggest that you give me the pros and cons of bards. Thanks And this is not meant to offend anyone, I truly want to know about bards, please enlighten my mind:) Well just to prove to you all how powerful D&D can be. The other day I was teaching an ESL (English as a Second Language) class over here in china. I asked the class what they did the other day and they told me they played video games. I asked what kind they were and they were all fantasy games. Then I asked if they heard of D&D and they did. I had the most interactive english speaking session I have ever had with that group for about 30 minutes as we discussed D&D and the various fantasy realities that it spawned. Just something to think about. P.S. The principal was impressed too. later I don't know how you all feel, but I know when I am playing D&D or just writing or reading, I find that certain music makes we want to adventure and puts me in the mind set to have a good hack and slash session. I am not sure if I am saying this properly.
Ahhh, valor it gives me chills FOR DUTY AND HONOUR! later Well I am not sure if this belongs here or not so whatever. I was just reading another thread and there looked to be some very odd names going up. So I was just wondering what your weirdest character names were? Personally I think my weirdest was having a monk nicknamed Iron Monkey! ANyways if you have some replies that would be great and amusing at the same time. Just a quick note, and probably a little late. I don't mean to offend anyone, or piss anyone off, but why did they change the rules of D&D from 3.0 to 3.5? I understand that 3.5 was more than likely an add gimmick, but why change at all? It didn't seem like 3.0 was out all that long and then they changed it all around. Was there some sort of problem? ANd why make a lot of the stuff in the books obsolete? Were they too powerful or something? Also what about weapons and things. Are some of the more exotic ones like Bladed Gauntlets and the such gone? or just in a different book? To me, as a complete outsider and just a "weekend warrior" it kind of seems like a way for WotC to just make more money. But if there is a reason could someone please explain it to me. I would really feel better. And if they are planning on changing things around again and making "4.25" or something could you mention that too, as I don't have the cash to keep updating my books and rules every few years. Though cheaper pdfs would be more acceptable. thank you all
Hey guys, just to let you know I am relatively new to these messageboards and also relatively new to even thinking of writinng for Dragon. However, I have lots of experience with D&D. So I thought I would try to give writing for Dragon a try, I mean I have started novellas and novels and shortstories, but I was thinking why not try Dragon. So I checked out their guidelines, but it says that I need to do it the way they do it. So all I need to do is get my hands on a Dragon magazine and I am in business. Big problem is that I am in China right now and I have no idea what half the stuff around me says. Can you guys give me a hand? or at least point me in the right direction. Are there any downloadable monster templates and writing samples that would be accurate for Dragon? Can I download a Dragon magazine off the internet? I thank you in advance. Now I don't know about anyone else but when I create a character I have to give him a back story and everything else. But recently i haven't been playing much lately. But I have still been adventuring in a way. I have created a world all on its own, and made its own religions, however the races that inhabit it are still quite similar to that of D&D. But I have placed alot of characters in there and have even written a few chapters on a couple specific characters. In Short I guess I am starting to write a book of sorts, I think, who really knows, but what I want to know is this. Does anyone else out there write about their characters like this or go on "writing binges" and pretty much write,or am i the only one?
