Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Hey guys, I'm really sorry, but I'm going to have to drop this game I think. I've become very busy lately, and I need to drop a few of my games in order to stay on top of things. Unfortunately, this one has moved very slowly and I can't really see the map most of the time anyway, since Google Docs is blocked at work.

Sorry for the inconvenience of losing another team member! I wish the rest of you luck with the game.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

HP: 6/21
Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
You crit against me, do you need to roll the extra damage? More than 6 damage and I'm unconcious, and what follows can be ignored.
Is Inspire Courage still active? I've been having trouble following the battle a little bit and have been forgetting to include it. I am including it below.

Trip attempt (immediate action): 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 6 + 1 = 14

Alanaes unleashes a few more blows at the Goblin Dog that has been attacking him, before stepping back behind Geoff to catch his breath.

Flurry 1: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 1 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 = 10

Alanaes then 5 foot steps back behind Geoff to hopefully avoid another bite.

You have got to be kidding me with these rolls...

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

I think the number generator hates me. I haven't rolled above a 10 in I don't know how long with this character!

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

HP: 12/21, AC 17
Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

As Alanaes is attacked by the horrible doglike creature, he attempts to trip it up, but he takes a bite in the process. Ouch! That hurt...

Trip attempt as an immediate action: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Then, Alanaes tries to unleash, with a flurry of quick strikes against the dog.

Flurry 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Apparently the dice roller hates Alanaes... That's two 2's, two 6's, a 4, and a 9 just in the past three posts :(

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Still here! +1 to what Darian says. I apologize for being slow to posting to this one. Weekends are difficult for all my games, and during the week I usually post from work where I can't access Google Docs, so that makes things more difficult for me as well.

But I'm still around and waiting for my turn in initiative.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Without a word, Alanaes continues to do the best he can to bring down the multitude of goblins that have been threatening the caravan. He focuses his next onslaught on the closest goblin (or goblins if there are more than one).

I can't see the map, so I'm flying a little blind here. If I recall, I am next to two goblins? Alanaes will Flurry of Blows on one of them, if it falls, he'll focus his second attack on the other goblin. If he is not adjacent to a goblin, five foot step towards one or a full move if necessary (followed by a single attack).

Flurry 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Wow... Failing with the dice roller today!!

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

I've been waiting on Geoff. Also, I still cannot see the map (and haven't had time to check it at home), so I'm a little blind as to who's where. Am I next to any goblins?

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Just a quick heads up to you all to let you know I won't be available all weekend. We are moving to our new house officially, and I won't have Internet, much less any time to jump on the forums until probably Tuesday. Have a great weekend!

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

"Geoff, if you can handle this creature, I'll go help the caravan!"

Without waiting for a reply, Alanaes heads off in the other direction, back down the hill toward the caravan. "I am on my way!"

Double move back to the caravan. I cannot see the map right now, but if I recall correctly, Darian took out the two I was fighting and Geoff is next to the Warchanter. I don't believe I can reach any of the new goblins in one move.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Alanaes easily dodged the goblins attack and used the small creatures momentum against him, tripping him up. He then turns his attention to the other goblin nearby, intending to take him out quickly.

5 foot step to L5 and then flurry of blows on goblin G7. If G7 drops after the first blow, the second attack will be on the prone G8.

Flurry 1: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 = 12
Damage 1: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
Damage 2: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Unfortunately, Alanaes finds himself losing his balance on the hill, and his fists do not meet their target.

I'm assuming he whiffed with those rolls!

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Does Zenovia's bard song affect combat maneuvers. If so, I forgot to include it in my attack above, but will remember to do so from this point onward. If not, then no problem :)

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Sorry, missed a couple posts for some reason... I can't see the map at the moment, so I'll trust you to move me where I can reasonable go.

Alanaes starts heading up the hill towards the goblins atop, keeping away from the Grease as much as possible.

If he can reach a goblin, he'll try and trip it. Otherwise, he'll double move to get in range of the archer goblins.

Trip attempt: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

If the goblin falls prone, Alanaes gets an Attack of Opportunity against him that must be an unarmed strike. As the attack is considered an AoO, if it hits it will render the enemy flat-footed until the end of Alanaes's next turn (DC 14 will save):

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

If any goblins attack him, Alanaes will use his Redirection ability to try and trip them (see his profile). You can roll that for me if you wish.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

If Alanaes can see through the Obscuring mist, he'll move to engage the goblin with Geoff, otherwise he'll just double move up the hill towards where he last saw the goblins and move for them once he can see them.

Assuming he can see:
Alanaes charges at the nearest goblin, in order to give aid to his friend.

Move to P8, then:
Unarmed Strike: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 2 = 19, damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

HP: 21/21, AC: 15 (17 normally)

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Alanaes follows Darian on foot and whispers to him, "Can't have you out here alone."

Alanaes will follow Darian's lead, with full defense as well.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Alanaes spends some time in the morning practicing his forms. Once the caravan is back on the road, however, Alanaes focuses on studying the terrain around them, keeping a leery eye on the forest and the hills. He starts to relax, however, as he doesn't spot anything.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

I will be out of town for a wedding, from Thursday through Monday, and will not have reliable access to the Internet. Please feel free to DMPC my character until I am back.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Alanaes limps forward a little bit, nodding at Geoff's words. He then responds to Darian, "I seem to be feeling much better, thanks to Sir Knight over here. But I still appear to have quite the bruise and a few open wounds... That owlbear was quicker than I expected, and I was unable to use his size against him. I will have to train some more, I feel."

Alanaes is at 13/21.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Round 4:
HP: 13/21, AC 21 (17 normally)

Alanaes once again puts himself into the frame of mind to defend himself. He takes a few steps forward as he enters a defensive posture.

I must be as the mountain, solid and unyielding. I must be ready to endure.
I must be as the river, flowing and free. I must be quick and ready to redirect the oncoming attacks.
The river flows around the mountain.

The phrases in his mind are they same he has used since his first lesson in this martial art style.

5-foot step forward (sorry, can't see the map right now) and enter Total Defense (+4 dodge to AC).

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Alanaes is down to 4 out of 21... He took that all at one time. Ouch!

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

This is unlikely to work against such a large beast, but as an immediate action, Alanaes will attempt to trip the owlbear (using his Flowing Monk ability).

Trip: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

If successful, definitely not likely with that roll, the owlbear falls prone. He is also sickened for one round unless he makes a DC 14 Reflex save. Assuming he is not tripped up:

Alanaes attempts to redirect the owlbear's attack in order to bring the large creature down. Unfortunately, his bulk is just too much for Alanaes, and instead he takes two rather nasty wounds. Luckily, he was able to avoid the owlbear's grasp.

HP: 4/21

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

I just realized I forgot to include bless and inspire courage bonuses to my attack and damage rolls. So the first flurry should be an attack roll of 16 and damage of 5. The second was a crit with the confirm attempt being a 9, which I'm sure doesn't confirm. The damage should be 8 for that one.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Round 3:
Initiative: 21
HP: 21/21, AC 17

This beast is is rather large... I will have a difficult time tripping it up, I think. Best I just try to bring it down quickly, then. Alanaes steps forward and unleashes a series of punches and kicks, aiming to serious injure the owlbear. One of his kicks lands with a sickening crunch.

5 ft. step to O-13. Then flurry of blows.

Flurry 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Crit Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Round 2:
Init: 20
HP 21/21, AC 21 (17 normally)

Alanaes stops where he is and enters a fighting stance. He calls out to Geoff, who has moved up as well. "Geoff, allow the owlbear to come to us. We will fight him on our terms." Alanaes smiles at his companion, and steels himself for the vicious onslaught sure to come from the owlbear.

I must be as the mountain, solid and unyielding. I must be ready to endure.
I must be as the river, flowing and free. I must be quick and ready to redirect the oncoming attacks.
The river flows around the mountain.

Alanaes enters total defense (+4 dodge to AC).

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Round 1:
Init: 20
HP 21/21, AC 17

Alanaes double moves down the path, hoping to draw the owlbear out of the trees. "Watch my back, everyone, as I attempt to draw the beast out."

Can't see the map from work unfortunately, but if I recall it correctly, I have some space to move up without getting into its range.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Alanaes does a few quick stretches to limber up before the coming battle. "Owlbears, huh? Any suggestions on how to fight these things? I've never encountered one before."

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Alanaes will take the middle watch.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

In response to Soth Loren:

"I am not a Varisian by birth, but all of my training was by a Varisian man who had cast off the wandering lifestyle. I feel a certain kinship with these people, because my mentor was the only person I could call a true friend, or even family. My parents didn't really pay any attention to me, they were so busy. But Master taught me how to protect myself from those who bullied me growing up." Alanaes frowns at the memories of his childhood hardship. "I was kicked out of town after I finally defended myself, and I never saw Master again. I was wandering, much like these Varisians, before I met you and the rest of this group. But I don't hold the same ideals as them. For one, I believe that the path to true happiness lies in self-perfection. That means that not only must I hone my skills, I must also stick to a strong morality."

"I am curious about your faith, Soth-Loren. Ragathiel is an enigma to me. In fact, you are the only person I have ever met to worship him. I wonder how different from Irori Ragathiel is."

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Soth-Loren: Just wanted to let you know quick that I posted before your edit, so I just now saw your question to Alanaes. I don't have much time right this second, but I'll respond to you sometime soon-ish.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Alanaes enjoys the children's company as well, as he walks alongside Soth-Loren. He also indulges and tells a little bit about his story, how he learned to combine the two very different martial art styles (the river and the mountain) into one seamless style of its own. And how his mentor was a Varisian man.

When offered a Harrow reading, Alanaes will accept, though he is a little skeptical about it. He's never had a reading before, but he is open enough to be willing to try it out. Plus, he doesn't want to seem rude to those he is traveling with.

When the children are doing chores, Alanaes moves out to the front of the caravan to scout ahead a little bit. He tries to spend time with all members of the party, to make conversation whenever possible.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

DM:
Thanks, I thought they had been and I guess I could have gone back to look, but I've been very busy lately and haven't had as much time as I'd like. Sorry for being so oblivious! I think if the game picks up pace a little (hopefully it will if we end up in combat), it'll be easier to remember some of those details.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

I apologize if this has been answered before and I missed it.

Friend Zandu, are your wagons covered? Perhaps those of us who are armored can hide in the wagons or under blankets until the goblins arrive. The rest of us who appear to be harmless can be out in the open to alert the armored ones when the goblins are upon us. I would like to remind you that I have had some experience with taking down multiple foes at once. I can handle myself if necessary until you can spring the trap!" Alanaes is actually getting excited about this. Not only does he get to (hopefully) show off his hand-to-hand combat skills, but he also gets to take down a lawless band of evildoers at the same time.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

General knowledge of Goblins: 1d20 ⇒ 19

"Hate as in they are extremely afraid of them and will kill them if they feel they will have the upperhand." Alanaes thinks on it. "But if there are too many, they will be more likely to cause the goblins to avoid them, I think."

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

"I think they like fire, as well, but they absolutely hate dogs and horses..."

That's all common knowledge right?

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Alanaes shakes his head at unfairness of it all. "That is a shame, sir. Perhaps we could accompany you. We are headed the same way, after all. We were just discussing a plan to spring a trap on the goblins, in fact. Let me see what the others think."

Alanaes waves to his group to come over and explains the situation to them. "So you see, we are in a position to help these fine folks."

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

"Yes, I believe we should." Alanaes will walk over to the group of Varisians and strikes up a quick conversation with the Varisian man. "My companions and I understand you have been discussing the situation with the goblins. But it appears as if you disagree with whatever decision has been made. We wish to help take care of the threat, and I believe it necessary to understand the concerns of all involved."

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Alanaes smiles at Terra and then follows Soth-Loren, sitting by him. "My friend, you have no need to apologize to us. You are chivalrous and honorable, which is, unfortunately, a rare thing to find in a man. Speaking for myself, though I find mirth at choice of words, I also find myself admiring your very nature."

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Alanaes laughs and nudges Darian. "Well said, friend."

To everyone, Alanaes bring the discussion back to the task at hand. "It sounds like a plan is beginning to form. I will not be alone, it seems, but we must be sure we all appear to be easy targets. Once they are upon us, they will not see what is coming to them."

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

"You must be close, but hidden. Or perhaps, if you cannot be stealthy, we can at least conceal your weapons and you could remain with me. I do not know much about goblins, but I imagine they aren't very bright."

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

"Well, my thought is that you would be not far behind me, easily within sight. Ideally you'll be able to react and surround the group within a few seconds. I realize it sounds a little crazy, but I thought it could work. I am, of course, open to other ideas." Alanaes is sincere and not hurt at any suggestions that his idea might not be a good one. He is, however, very confident in his ability to fend for himself as long as he knows support is not far behind.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

I'm back, I've just been sick...

Alanaes listens carefully as Soth-Loren and Terra spoke with the barkeep. "If you have another room, sir, I would like one as well." Alanaes hands over the proper amount of coin for his room and then turns to his companions. "Well, my friends. I say we rest here tonight and then head out tomorrow to eradicate this scourge of lawless beings. Personally, I think we can handle a raiding party on our own, no need of a caravan. In fact, if we appear to be meek, we may be able to goad them into attacking us, thus eliminating the need to search for them ourselves."

A plan forms in his mind, though it is rather risky. "Perhaps I can scout ahead while the rest of you stay behind. Because I travel unarmed, I will appear to be an easy target. Of course, as you all know, I am not so easy to take down. Once they attack, the rest of you come out of hiding to my aid. I believe I can hold them off for a bit, until you can get there."

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

I'll be out of town starting tomorrow and through the weekend. Please DMPC my character until I get back on Monday. Sorry for the short notice, and see you in a few days!

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Untrained Knowledge (Local): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (15) + 0 = 15
I assume Alanaes would have known about the Varisians anyway, since he trained under a Varisian man.

"Those colored wagons belong to a traveling band of Varisians, actually. They are a fascinating people, though I suppose they are somewhat tarnished by a reputation for thievery and trickery. My mentor was a Varisian..." Alanaes continues to follow Darian toward the Lucky Monkey.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

"Yes, Soth-Loren, it is the right thing to do! But it is also a great way for me to practice my style of combat. I've been feeling a little rusty lately and I need to get myself back on the track to perfection!" Alanaes is excited about the idea of taking on some goblins.

Sorry for my lack of posts lately. Been busy with work.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Back! Just catching up on reading and getting back into the writing mode. I'll probably be posting sparsely (once a day, hopefully) over the next two weeks because of work, but I'll be here.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Alanaes sits down next to Terra and tells Soth-Loren of their experience in the tavern.

"I suppose I was a bit ruthless with that kick, but it wasn't like I was attempting to permanently damage the guy... I don't like this place much."

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

Before exiting, Alanaes calls back. "Once again, I am terribly sorry for the damage I have caused. Come on everyone, let's go." He then walks out without looking back again, whether the rest follow or not. He notices Terra off pleading to two guards who appear to be uninterested in helping out and walks over to her.

"Terra, things seem to be okay, but I'd like to find our companions and get away from this tavern. They don't seem to like us here."

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

"Here, this is for the trouble I have caused. I'll just be on my way then."

Alanaes drops 15 gold on top of the unconscious man and starts to walk toward the front door.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

"What my friend here is trying to say, is that if you attack us, we will not go quietly. I will defend myself. But it doesn't have to come to that."

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

"He was laying his hands on my friend and when I stopped him, he attacked me. I was only defending myself. And you'll see he's not really hurt that bad, just unconscious. I had no intention of causing him lasting harm."

Alanaes stands where he is, not making any sudden moves. He mentally prepares himself to fight back against the bouncers with swords, should it come to that.

In case it matters, Vicious Stomp can be any type of unarmed strike. I flavored it as a kick, not so much as a stomp because I have been dealing non-lethal damage.

Male Human Flowing Monk of the Sacred Mountain 2

"No, I cannot do that Darian. I knocked this poor fellow out here after he tried to grab Terra and attack me..." Alanaes points to the bouncer on the floor. "I think perhaps I ought to turn myself in."

He then turns toward the bouncer nearby who have pulled out their weapons. "We can explain everything. We uncovered a plot to steal from the patrons of this bar." He says this indicating the woman who was involved. "Unfortunately, our methods of apprehending them for you proved to be rather unwise, and for that we are sorry."

Diplomacy: 1d20 ⇒ 8

I think my words are going to prove useless...
