Background:

Alain Shadestrom comes from the city of Senghor. A port on the Bay of Senghor on the western end of the peninsula known as the Kaava Lands in the southern Mwangi Expanse. His father, Bertrand Shadestrom, is a factor for one of the trading houses in the city and was rather keen for Alain to follow in his footsteps. Alain had itchy feet however and an intense desire to see as much of the world as he could before settling down. Reluctantly his father agreed with the understanding that Alain return and settle down once his wanderlust was satisfied.

After several months of glorious adventure a letter from home caught up with him containing some rather unpleasant news. It seems that his younger brother had signed up as a guide with a scholarly expedition that was intending to explore some of the ruins that dotted the local countryside. The expedition seemed well equipped and well led but after heading out in high spirits, hadn't been heard from since. Search teams were sent out but were unable to find any sign of them. With a sinking feeling Alain immediately went down to the docks in search of a ship heading towards home. Luck was with him and he was able to book passage on the Jenivere with a scheduled stop in his home town. Hopefully he would be able to succeed where other search teams had failed.

During ship passage Alain will be friendly if a bit distracted. He will probably try to feel out any likely fellow passengers to see if they would be interested in an adventure (locating the lost expedition and his brother). After the shipwreck he will do whatever he can to keep people safe and get them back to civilization.

Application:

Why should Alain be chosen to play in this AP?

Alain is well suited to help out the party. His high diplomacy skill will likely be an asset dealing with the "swift-to-squabble castaways" or local natives. He speaks Polyglot, the unofficial "common" language of the region. He grew up in the city of Senghor and is familiar with the history of the Mwangi jungles. He also has some skill in knowledge nature and survival. His trip ability is kind of weird (and even weirder to visualize!) but could prove useful. I'd like to claim that he's a powerful sorcerer as well but hey, he's only first level!

More to the point, why should I be allowed to participate!
I'm an experienced gamer. I can usually post two or three times a day but I'm not interested in monopolizing the conversation. I enjoy the teamwork aspect of role playing over self promotion.
