Alain Lenoir was born in France third son to a minor noble family. His father wanted him to become a clergyman, but he spent more time avoiding his tutors and making friends among the other gallants and their men at arms than at his studies. Naturally charming, he quickly gained a reputation unbefitting of the vocation his father had chosen for him. When he was accused of violating the daughter of a well-respected local family (the girl's parents intimidated her into accusing Alain after her maid reported they had lain together) Alain's father was forced to ship his third son off to a monastery in Ireland. Alain had no desire to spend his days on a dismal rock in the sea reading scripture, so he slipped away from his escort in Southern England and made his way on his charm and wits, honing his skills at evading responsibility. He eventually ended up in Scotland after the events of that Scottish tragedy, his purse emptying and his luck wearing thin. With a new king in Scotland, Alain thought he would try and present himself to the King as a friend of the crown, playing on his charm and not inconsiderable smarts and knowledge of noble politics to make himself useful. Too useful, he hoped, for the King to allow him to be taken away by his Father's men and sent in irons to Ireland if they ever catch up with him.
