Other than telling the aunt that we are taking the kids to their family and asking if she has any message that she would like to deliver to her brother, Toki is done with this trash place! ^_^

Toki ran his hand over his bare head as the steam rose in little curls in the cold morning air. The Northlander longship pulled into the dock and the young warrior leapt to the wharf and caught the rope with practiced ease. I wonder what that old seer meant? the Northlander shook his head, The gods like to toy with us mortals don't they? Valkur smile upon me... After pulling the longship in and lashing it properly, Toki hopped back on the ship and clapped his brothers in a hearty handshake, snatched up his rucksack and shield, and returned to the docks looking for his first stop. Toki is a tall man with darker features, reminiscent of the far reaches of Kara-Tur, but he clearly wears his beard short and sports tattoos typical of Northlanders. He wears the heavy chainmail of raiders and a wooden shield across his back. Rather than the longsword, he has a pair of handaxes tucked into his belt.

I grew up with that book! I loved it so much that when I found out that it was picked up by Tuttle Publishing, I brought in a couple of copies for the Bookstore that I run! EDIT: Sorry, it is IDW Publishing now!
Perhaps some of us can create a pronunciation guide here when it comes out. I am sure that several of us that are more familiar with the languages might be more than willing to contribute. I am familiar with Japanese language pronunciation, but am a little less so with Chinese dialects (I know a little of Mandarin and Cantonese, but am absolutely unfamiliar with Thai, Malayan, and other Southeast Asian languages...) I am unsure which cultures they will be drawing most heavily from...

Getting excited about running PFS again after all these years!
Hmm, I may start running some Bounties soon! I am still trying to get the hang of PF2e, but I ran 1-06: Lost on the Spirit Road in a home game and loved it! I may start with that... Maybe in a week or two... I am also trying to get my FLGS to start doing PFS Quests / Bounties to drive up interest here...

Maybe just bring up what the site manager said and ask if you could inquire on the decision so that you can proceed to pursue other opportunities if you are not selected. If you do not hear back in a day or two, I would begin looking for another opportunity. That way you have things lined up if this does not work out...

I have no proof, but there is no wu jien or wu jian that I have found to equate to D&D's wujen.

I like the idea of making them Archetypes. Samurai was more of a caste than a job. This way you could easily have a samurai that is like Genjuro (from Samurai Spirits) using a Barbarian as a base, versus the Tachibana Ukyo (also from Samurai Spirits) where you may take Swashbuckler as a base. This way, they could have access to types of training that is afforded by their status rather than all be shoehorned into a class. Same with Shinobi, some were assassins, some were spies. What their specialty was defined their training. I feel like it would be better served as an archetype that granted access to feats outside their training. Anyway, I second your points about reducing Asia to specific tropes, and am happy that these books will introduce other cultures of Asia that have a little less exposure. ^_^
pixierose wrote: I don't think that is the case. For one I am particularly excited about it but I am also excited about a bunch of stuff too. You may be one of the first people to mention it because maybe someone chose to focus on their favorite thing that is something else or because they chose to bounce off of what everyone else was talking about. It is more than likely that you are correct. I was just sad that the discourse was more of the same... I am super happy though, that many of my Twitter friends are contributors on these, and that they are expanding all of the Asian analogues through Golarion! Sharing cultural tidbits from Southeast Asia in addition to the typical Chinese, Korean, and Japanese flavor will make my upcoming Celestial Regent campaign much better. As they pass over the Crown of the World, I want them to feel a definite difference between Golarion's Mongolia and through Northern China, then later through Southern China... Having a map of Tian Xia will help me track their journey as well... ^_^

If I were doing it, I would have Rodalas being summoned back to complete a mission for the Winter Court, but finds that it is not something he can do himself and so calls upon his friends.
As I have already played through in 1e, I will withdraw, to allow the two remaining fighters have a chance. I also love the Grey Maidens, and the Orc barbarian has huge RP potential as well. If nothing else, this helped me go through the character creation process and get more comfortable with it! I will see if I can take Haohji to PFS and try my hand there!

Wow.
Nice! Well, luckily, this takes place in the War of the Lance, so if you don't want to deal with post Chaos War or War of Souls, you don't need to! I like the way that the book has been set up so far. I am going to tweak the locations a bit to use my old village of Stonybrook instead of Vogler and change out some of the npcs from an old campaign. As for the Tinker, I just don't like the Artificer. Might work for a mad gnome, but I just don't really like the class. (It is fine for Eberron, but doesn't fit for me anywhere else but homebrew worlds that are designed for it.) I agree about the Handler, it should more be how one plays the Kender. I like the Knights of Solamnia Background and Feats. I am planning to make them a Faction that you can join the faction and gain the feats after the appropriate training. The only thing I will add back in is the quest requirement (which can be fulfilled within the bounds of the adventure.) I am going to have a session 0 in two weeks!

By the time that Grim arrived the next morning, Donal was already down in the courtyard poring over the scrolls and treatises with the skinny scholar. No, look at this stance! The drawing is only taking into account one angle. Your legs would have to be at least shoulder-width to provide stability from all directions. Look... stand in the way you surmise the drawing tells you to. The warrior circles the sage, and with a shove knocks the skinny Dwarf to the ground, See? Now, widen the stance. Shoulder's width. The scholar, the embarrassment clouding his face, stands back up, but this time tries as Donal orders. The look of Well, of course, you are much stronger than I... clear to all onlookers. But this time, he does not fall! Sure, he stumbles at the shove, but keeps his feet. Noticing the Doomguide approach, Donal smiles, Just teaching this brain that practical experience is just as important as book knowledge. -- The day is grueling, but Donal and Grim spend equal time translating sketch into motion as facing live opponents. Circles and footwork allow the warrior and temple knight to trade off opponents, catching them off guard with rapid exchanges and forcing them to each worry about two opponents rather than one. Want to add anything else? My arm is throbbing, so I need to stop for now.

Donal quietly awaits his turn, already having made up his mind to join Reya. He was the Hidden Hand of the Hound, often only spoken of in whispers, existence all but denied by the church. It was his duty. When allowed the time to discuss the vambrace shield concept, he first tests the waters to see if such a thing has ever been created. If not, he asks if it could be made... -- Later, at the cafeteria, Donal sits with the others (Assuming, this is after Mal and Reya's 'date. ;)) and matter-of-factly states, I'm going with you, Hellrider.

No worries. Like I said, Donal is no peach himself. He just needs to see that you are willing to work together. Think Dirty Dozen, where we are all the misfits, but with Donal's direction, you are given direction toward the ultimate goal. Donal understands that you all have your own motivations, and is willing to feed those, if it keeps you in line. ;) |
