Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
And here's a map (click here) showing where the guys are (I thnk I got the scale right, but correct me if not) I guess Thomi is by the door with Aegwyn right behind?
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
If these men are not in control of their actions then perhaps we should not aim to kill them, but rather to destroy the thing that dangles them like marionettes. I can speak to their souls and ask for answers, but that will reveal our presence. We might want to use detect thougts on these guys to see what the deal is. Toranindracar - do you have one of those prepared? Aegwyn doesn't see it as compulsion, more as asking a higher power to compel the actions of an unbeliever. Any moral judgement should be directed at the winds :)
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
Aegwyn mutters a quick prayer to the gods (divine favor), swings her shield into place, and draws a javelin. She studies the trio through the crack in the door, trying to assess their relationship to each other. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 She whispers back to the others - These men look like dangerous adversaries. I could ask the winds to whisper in their minds and set them at each other's throats? I'm thinking of casting murderous command - to start the battle with one of them attacking his friends. That should give us overwhelming odds in the surprise round
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
It definitely moved, but I sense no magic about it. I'm loathe to leave such a creature behind me, but perhaps Toranindracar is right, we should press on. She turns and starts to follow Thomi up the stairs, moving the torch to keep him in the very edge of the dim flickering light.
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
Aegwyn blinks in surprise before calling out to the rest of the group. At the same time, she takes a step back and draws her weapon. This man has something in his system - something that moved. It retreated into his eyes when I spotted it. Does anyone know of such cursed darkness that it would inhabit the corpse of the fallen?
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
Aegwyn studies the map and beckons the others over to look. It looks like whoever dropped this wasn't using this tunnel to find the Daethol, but instead they were trying to get into the citadel. Look - the tower to the left in the trees must be Dubdind. We didn't carry on down the river - the first red cross - maybe the other two also indicate turnings we shouldn't follow. Toranindracar - do you know of a tunnel down to the Daethol beneath the Citadel?
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
Aegwyn uses her experience from treating many battlefield wounds to see if the bloodstains can give us a clue to the severity of the wound, and the time since they were left (clotting etc) Heal 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8. Or not. Wow. She's never seen blood before. All her medical knowledge was clearly theoretical.
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
Ah well, such is life. Aegwyn pulls a rune from her belt and drops it. GM:
1-10 = no, 11-20 = yes 1d20 ⇒ 12 The winds catch the tile, and flick it towards the door where it lands in the blast radius at the threshold. She smiles at Toranindracar. Don't worry, we were meant to go this way. She bends to pick up the rune and starts towards the open door.
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
If there's no detectable permanency spell, then it's possible these were re-set by the people we're pursuing. At the very least we should use a dispel magic to clear the wards. Toranindracar - do you have it memorised? Otherwise we're left either waiting 2 hours/caster level for it to expire, or just blasting through and hoping for the best...
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
Aegwyn walks to the end of the room, and quickly updates her map. She walks to the opening in the bars on the right, beside the ramp down and uses mage hand to push the torch 35 feet down the ramp, to illuminate where the ramp goes. Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
Bijannar & GM:
It's 25ft + 5ft/2 levels - ref - unfortunately Aegwyn strolls forward, moving the torch 35' ahead to illuminate the passage, until she's close to the water filled trough. She looks into the caverns to the left and right and tries to get a sense for the size of the room. The torch ahead of us will cover the area we're in with shadowy illumination. Do we need 2 torches? With one, we get some chance to use stealth
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
If we want to get warning of what lies ahead, and allow Thomi some cover, I can ask the winds to carry the torch for us? Then we can stay in the shadows and any enemies will be drawn to the light rather than to us? Aegwyn casts mage hand on the torch and offers to carry it 35 feet in front of the party, so that we're in shadowy illumination. That should give Thomi a chance both to scout, and hide in the shadows
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
Aegwyn knows nothing of the history behind this place, but shakes out her wet clothing and updates her map. Am I right in thinking the bars go across the cavern? And did the stream carry on ahead like I've shown it?
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
Aegwyn peers into the darkness, to see if there's anything untoward hiding out in the piles of debris 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 She smiles at Bijannar's misfortune and asks the winds to help steady his feet, and those of her companions. A dose of Guidance all round - +1 competence bonus for a roll of your choice in the next minute. Remember you have to declare you're using the bonus before you make the roll
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
Thank the winds - it is they who guided my arm to save you. You think I could pull one such as you from the rushing river without the aid of the fates? It was my time to save you today. In the future, it will be yours to save another, maybe that'll be me, mayhaps another. Don't falter when that day comes. Aegwyn smiles at Brogdar and sets him back on his feet. She unwraps a rope from her pack, taking a moment as her pack straps flap and flutter. The footing's treacherous - perhaps we should lash together, and one with good footing and some strength should hold the back?
Female Human (Valgaard) Oracle 5
Oh this is going to go badly wrong Aegwyn tries to keep her feet in the rushing water:
Well, how about that - the water has been well and truly defeated by Aegwyn's mighty skills. What would be the check to catch Brogdar?
