3.x or 4E, doesn't matter to me. It's Paizo and it's Pathfinder, which is the best campaign setting around currently IMHO. Since the great Mona has already stated it'll be relatively versionless, I don't see any reason for everyone who plans to play Pathfinder not to get this, regardless of their stance on 4E.

Played this the other day. Was awesome, even more fun than the original.

Brothers and sisters, I have seen light and been converted!

Assuming you guys get the SRD and make the decision to move to 4E, will this be a 4E product?

Don't want to speak for the great minds at Paizo, but I don't see them being able to release 4E info in this book if they have to wait until the release of the core books from WOTC. Doesn't seem to be enough time to absorb and take in. But I've been wrong before.

I don't know about that. Disneyland is pretty damn nasty. You have Fantasy Land where all of the princesses are throwing their hooch in your face. King Rat walks around shaking hands with children, giving them VD. Daisy Duke struts around in her denim short shorts. In Frontier Land, you have singing bears all getting it on. Space Mountain lowers I.Q. It's a Small World is the gateway ride to child porn.

can't .. stop .. laughing ..

Great image

He has a name now, and his backstory is coming together in my head. All will be revealed tomorrow on the blog.

I'm going to totally scoop Jacobs here...

His name is Ned Neodore Nogan, Esquire. He's into totally excellent magical stuff and he really hates those bogus outsider dudes. And whenever he casts a totally righteous spell he's all, "Whoa."

Is his familiar named Bill?

Already have my copy in hand and it's well worth it. Even if I do eventually move to 4th Edition, I still have one location to use for 3rd Edition rules for any remaining campaigns.

Another WAR cover. And a dragon to boot!!! Awesome.

This program is awesome. I downloaded the trial and played with it for a few hours before I knew that I was going to buy it. I've told my players to try it out as well. Perfect for our half-orc barbarian player who always seems to mess up on leveling his character.

You play with a half-orc barbarian? Well sheesh, it's no wonder he has trouble leveling up - has he even spent the points to be able to read the PHB?

I don't play the half-orc, but someone else in our group does. And it makes for interesting times. Especially when his facorite past time is rushing past the rogue and bashing open doors before they've even been checked for traps.

I'm thinking that when the PCs arrive at Foxglove Manor I'm going to have them roll initiative and never leave combat rounds. I think that this will not only simplify things with the haunts, but it will keep them tense.

Any thoughts?

That may be the best way to handle it. I haven't read all of that section, but it may work best when dealing with the haunts.

Considering how much I enjoyed the background/stats on Tyralandi, I'm all for 2 pages for characters to give a feel for characters, even ones that I may never use.

Just skimmed it. Looks awesome. I did notice a tidbit in the foreward that character pages would be expanded to include more detail, which I very much like, but I'm curious as to what other aspects of the book this might affect. Less pages for the Journal or other supplemental info?
Two-page character sheets were always part of the plan, actually, so it won't really be affecting much at all. And remember, we're only talking about a page here. An article can shrink or grow more than that only by having word choice tightened, art manipulated, font manipulated, and so on. One less page won't result in any real noticeable "loss of content."

Awesome. I figured you guys already had it planned.

In addition, I would like to know how many DMs actually use the Great Wheel. I have not used it in a long, long time. While the changes make me whince I have ask myself "why?" If the Great Wheel is of so very little importance to me why do I care if WotC changes the way the default cosmology works? My current homebrew certainly doesn't use the default cosmology and I can't see any future campaigns using it either.

I also have never used the Great Wheel, sticking to homebrew, just taking what I need from here and there. But I understand the concern of those for whom it matters.

D) Other

I'm interested in the game mechanics of the 4th Edition, but I'll continue playing 3rd Edition until I'm completely convinced 4th Edition is right for my group.

one thing noone has mentioned TMK is under the PHB title, it says "Arcane Divine, and Martial Heroes" does that point to a PHB 2 with other types of heroes?

I think the idea is for later manuals for classes such as psions, but not sure it's a PHB2.

I like the new artwork on the covers, but I do agree that for manuals they should have stuck to a more "traditional" (if that is the word) layout. That being said, give me that PHB cover as a poster.

Not my usual fare but it's a fun read and well written.

Read that one twice.

Also in agreement with this idea.

Yep. That's great advice and encouragement. My problem is, with all the plots and characters in my head, it's hard to focus and write. Guess I'm turning ADD in my old age.

Sebastian wrote:

Yeah, this one was significantly better. It seems like every time someone gets attacked, they get to counter attack.

I'm curious if it's every time or just once per encounter and if it's Dex based, which would make logical sense to me. Only counterattack with a high enough reflex.

Games are supposed to be fun, therefore the game should have instant leveling. If that doesn't seem realistic... well, to me it doesn't seem realistic that spending days adventuring and using your skills isn't how you learn to be better, but training in some static environment where there's no danger does? That sounds backward.

That's my normal GM'ing style. With few exceptions, multi-classing and some feats, it's understood the players are honing those skills and abilities as they progress, without training. A fighter constantly swinging his sword will eventually get stronger. Why does he need more training?

I agree. You guys have done an awesome job with it. And, to think, Sandpoint is just the tip of the iceburg. Can't wait until our eyes are shown the rest of what must be a magnificent world.

Mobile, AL

In a campaign I played, we had a rogue who was multi-classing in a wizard. He managed this by 'borrowing' the party's current wizard's spellbook while she slept.

This is a must see film. It's really really good. I won't ruin it for everyone, but this is a fun, exciting fantasy film.

spoiler below for those who HAVE seen it:

** spoiler omitted **

I read the book when it first came out, however many years ago. Definitely plan to see the movie.

Definitely depends largely on the artist since Wayne Reynold's hasn't supplied an unattractive image yet. But, from what I've seen so far ... Merisiel

In the run up to the launch of 3e, WotC posted stats for Tiamat (or what it Bahamut) which were, needless to say, stupidly powerful. I would guess that's the power level we're talking about and that description of the dragon encounter is no more representative of combat generally than Tiamat/Bahamut were representative of monster power level generally.

I would speculate that an encounter with goblins, though more representative, would not show off all the bells and whistles of the new combat system.

I agree. I believe we're just being shown a glimpse of several aspects of the new combat system, not necessarily what we should expect for each and every encounter.

Dude, I still know kids stuck on 1st Edition...
I don't know any kids who were around to even see 1st edition book. 1st edition guys are old and crusty like my self 30+ at least.

1st edition?

"I want to play an elf"
"Ok"
"What classes do I get to choose from?"
"There aren't any. 'Elf' is the class."

'Old and Crusty' -- Present.

Old and Crusty myself, however the majority of my experience has been with 3.x, maily due to being raised in an area where kids my age were subjected to D&D is the Devil crap. And, because of my limited pre-3rd Edition experience, I for one look forward to an expansion of a hobby that I love so much my girlfriend has gotten pissed at me for talking about it too much :)

I don't have this issue yet either, but now I'm extremely curious as to this image.

Still haven't read through it all, but WOW!! I'm thoroughly impressed. With the level of detail I've seen, I can be thankful I subscribed and look forward to seeing more as the campaign progresses.

No problems with opening on my personal PC or my work PC (where I do any printing I need).
Also I was taken aback at the multiple pdfs at first, but I actually prefer it because I can organize the files better that way. Make a folder for just the adventurer, one for the beastiaries, etc. Maybe that's just cause I'm slightly ADD.

I agree. It's a step in a positive direction, not just the mixing of tabletop with digital media. I also hope I read the Wizards site correctly in regards to race. It sounds like they are going to incorporate the racial classes concept into the leveling up. So you would not only gain the abilities for your class but also any new abilities for your race.

Looking forward to the first issue and all issues afterwards. Keep up the great work.
