Phoenix Cactus Comicon 2012 was a huge success. Considering this is not a formal gaming convention and all the other attractions available I could be none more pleased.

The convention went from Thursday the 24th through the 27th. We had 8 slots with 18 tables that went off, each table averaged 5.2 players, most we new to PFS. In fact we had 30 new players, more and more each slot. Turns out word of mouth spread well and the new players had such a good time they continued to come back and brought their friends. I attribute this to the EXCELLENT corp of GM’s I had at my disposal, no arguments and slots ran as scheduled. Also the most important thing everyone had FUN!!!!!

One really great thing is I had 5-6 players from the Prescott and Flagstaff area of northern AZ and it is hoped we can get a gameday rolling up there. So if you are one of them and read this get hold of me ASAP.

These are the scenarios run

Slot 1 5-24
2-03 Rebel’s Ransom
3-07 Echoes of the Overwatched

Slot 2 5-25
3-05Tide of Twilight
07 Among the Living

Slot 3 5-25
55 Infernal Vault
55 Infernal Vault

Slot 4 5-25
17 Perils of the Pirate Pact
33 Assault on the Kingdom of the Impossible

Slot 5 5-26
First Steps Part 1
3-19 Icebound Outpost
51 City of Strangers Part 1

Slot 6 5-26
First Steps Part 2
52 City Of Strangers Part 2
Master of the Fallen Fortress

Slot 7 5-26
47 Darkest Vengeance
3-18 God’s Market Gamble
29 Devil You Know Part 1, Shipyard Rats

Slot 8
03-01Frostfur Captives

Hey folks just wondering if there is any PFS being done in this area? Basically if you are north of maricopa county please let me know. As the VC for Arizona, I just want to know what is going on up there be it home game or gameday. Thanks Jason

OK folks as your VC I have secured some new locations for our gamedays which are posted at Warhorn.net under a a gathering of players yahoo group. If you are not part of this group please get on it ASAP. Samuri Comics has a new location in the east valley and it is where our new PFS gameday on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. If you are in the area and not sure about gamedays let me know on this thread I will find you.

Ok did anyone else catch this, to get to their destination the PC's can be transported via teleport or take the long journey walking and pay 125gp in tolls and such marching through the Taldan countryside. Yet it doesn't discuss them getting back or having to pay for this to return to Oppara? I just found this kinda funny. PS this is a really fun chronicle, highly recommended. Does this count as a spoiler?

Ok just curious metamagic feats talk about replacing a higher level slot. If I am a wizard who prepares spells and I have say the elemental spell feat(cold), and I come across a creature immune to fire, do I have to have a spell prepared to using the feat or can I just eliminate a higher level memorized spell to do so. Also if I am a spontaneous caster and using the same scenario, do I just use a higher level slot? The reason I ask is that it seems allot of the metamagic feats seem situational and if I memorize spells I can't always predict what I will face. Thanks

Ok players, I have run into this a couple times, and it is becoming terribly relevant in the near future. Too many of you think your faction is just a name or nationality and you get told to do weird things during the course of an operation. Please know the following as the fate of the Pathfinder Society lays in the balance.
1. WHO YOUR FACTION LEADER IS, oh and a bit of information about them, could be useful.....maybe.
2. What your faction stands for and it's main goals.
3. Should your character find out information about another or rival faction, remember that information belongs to that character, don't bring it about with another PC.
4. Your faction is secret, so don't go blabbing it about. This could be very important in the near future.

There are going to be several new factions soon and some of them may be Shadow Lodge factions, though you probably won't know it. Also some factions that exist now will likely be revealed as Shadow Lodge factions. Recent chronicles make it imperetive that you know your faction and know it well. If you do not you will make things difficult for your GM and may cause the demise of other players because you had your thumb up your nose.

Th factions are a driving force behind to PFS and what makes it a really great living campaign. Take it seriously. You players are generally great and as a GM the quality of play is superior oitherwise I wouldn't be so ready to pick up a chronicle for ya. However, help out your GM and know this stuff.

anyone know of any traits that give perception as a class skill aside from Militant Dwarf?

Taldor aka AZhobbit **** (Venture-Captain, Arizona—Phoenix)

What do you all do to set the game mood? My players greatly enjoy the use of soundtracks that are particular to the chronicle and setting they are in. Some of the tacks I use that are specific to chronicles are

Silent Tide, Black Waters, Among the Living, Lost at Bitter End, Voice in the Void, and Among the Dead- The From Hell Soundtrack

Hydra Fang, Devil We Know series, Sniper in the Deep, No Plunder, No Play- Pirates of the Carrabian Soundtrack

Murder on the Silken caravan, Third Riddle, Our lady in Silver, Citadel of Flame- The Mummy and Mummy 2 Soundtracks

Frozen Fingers, Scale a Dragon, Drow of the Darklands, Beggars Pearl- The 13th Warrior Soundtrack

Mists of Mwangi, Lyrics of Extiction, Encounter at the Drowning Stones- Congo Sountrack

Perils of the Pirate Pact, Decline of Glory, Lyrics of Extiction, Encounter at the Drowning Stones, The Everwar Series, Pallid Plauge- Last of the Mohicans

I also use the Gladiator and Conan soundtracks here and there. Any other suggestions?

Where exactly is the City of Strangers?

Taldor aka AZhobbit **** (Venture-Captain, Arizona—Phoenix)

Allot of posts regarding players of one faction subverting another to cause them to fail their missions has come up allot recently. While we like the idea that all the players don't player knowledge vs character knowledge, I find as a GM it is partially my responsibility to ensure this. As a GM i try really hard to keep my players from doing this. The best way i have found is that factions are secret. We have sign in sheets for a reason, I have players introduce themselves and only give descriptions, such as race, what they look like, gender and maybe some things that fit their physical stats. Factions are secretive and should not be public knowledge. If two players are a faction then I pass notes that they know someone else at the table as a member of their faction. I have found that players greatly enjoy this and it adds mystery to the game.

There should not be any information posted about scenarios. I understand they may be needed for discussion, but that should be done through private email. I also understand they are read voluntarily, but come on. It takes so much fun away from being a GM and a player to have the PC's with prior knowledge to the scenario and how to complete their faction missions and so on. Grant it players can read the bestiary and know how to kill specific creatures without the appropriate knowledge, is very similar. However, spoilers can just ruin things for writers who put in the fun surprises.

When a ghost uses it's malevolence ability is there a time limit that it can possess someone and is there a distance it can travel from it's original remains?

Ok I am a veteran living campaigner, in fact I prefer living campaigns to home games. What really attracted me to the Pathfinder Society versus 4E, which I gave a month to before deciding I didn't like it, was the way the living campaign is organized. However, even so it isn't always easy to recruit players to PFS instead of 4E. As a GM and a big believer in the game I feel I have a responsibility to sell the game to those who are on the fence and this is the same notion as some of my fellow gamers in Phoenix. Often we have to deal with pilferous 4E GMs who try to steal our players like that annoying car salesman. So what are some things you all do to recruit players? Here are some of our tactics.

Character generation is the key for us, don't just give them the book and say make a character. Take some time and help them out. Explain to them what is a pathfinder? This is a huge selling point because unlike most other "Living Campaigns" PFS is not a bunch of mercenaries hungry for money committing murder across the countryside. When I describe the PFS I tell players it's like being an operative of INTERPOL, in which you have people from multiple agencies who have a common goal and are given a specific mission by a second organization which is very secretive and often times of a questionable moral(the Decemvirate AKA the Illuminati). Now each operative also serves their national secret agency(CIA, Mossad, KGB) ie Taldor, Cheliax whomever. This provides for a great deal of character interaction and intrigue. I have heard PFS is Indiana Jones or National Treasure, I see it more like a being a spy because often times our missions save Golarion.

Most players will decide weather they stick with a living campaign or not based on the people who run it. So be prepared.

Make sure your games are advertised and run when scheduled. Most gamers need to have things regimented have the game at an easy location, game stores, libraries and such work well. Also have spare GMs in case you have walk ins.

NEONCON was awesome and Josh and the guys gave great support, but remember they can't recruit everywhere. This is the best living campaign I have seen so spread the wealth, pimp this game. Because we represent the leaves of the tree.

Ok I received the download for this, which had the list of items. Now for those of us who are trying to convert before Gencon is this book available? If so where?

Taldor aka AZhobbit **** (Venture-Captain, Arizona—Phoenix)

Ok I have played 4 scenarios and was given a # by my coordinator I went to register yesterday, but didn't the event code thing so when i clicked on join it automatically gave me a new #. So i have logged the events under a different society # than what the website gave me. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

Thanks, Jason
