"So. You've had no success?" Joek, the kobold leader of the entire organization, asks a tall minotaur.
"No, sir. We tried to find it, but the guardians were too powerful. My brothers were all slain, and I forced to flee. I am sorry."
"It's alright. We can remain mortal for a little while longer. But our entire organization hinges on the Board Liches. Without them, we cannot be restored to our formal power. You may go."
"Yes, sir." The minotaur leaves, and through the door walks a skeletal kobold.
"Ah, Kobold Cleaver. Any luck?"
"Yes, Joe. I am closer than ever to breaching the shield. But sir, there is a problem..."
"Yes?"
"If Lynora senses it..."
"You still call her by her name. Perhaps you miss her? Perhaps you miss your friends?"
"No. That time is over. I am of the Servants again."
"They could restore you, take you out of your pain-filled state."
"The thought is...tempting. But no. The transition has been too difficult to walk away now. Have we any news on that front?"
"No. The secret of the Board Liches is still well guarded."
The lich sighs.
"Alright, then. I will retire to my chambers to continue my work."
"Good. You go do that. I have some...shady business to attend to, you could say."
"Weren't the shadowdancers caught?"
"Yes, and one dead. I am hoping that you will breach the shield in time. I would hate to have to send more."
The lich nods, and leaves.
