Fantastic year for Paizo Publishing at Gen Con Indy
Epic Player Community Events, Sold-Out Product Launches, and New Licenses Contributed to 2013 Being Paizo's Best Gen Con Ever Next Year's Pathfinder Books Previewed, Gen Con Date Save
After its first year as co-sponsor of Gen Con Indy, Paizo Publishing, LLC, publisher of the world's best-selling Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, is thrilled to announce the company had its best Gen Con ever. Paizo Publishing experienced exceptional retail business in the Gen Con exhibit hall, with year-over-year sales growth of 30%.
Paizo unveiled three new partnerships at Gen Con Indy. Big Finish will be producing Pathfinder Legends, the first audiobook adventures set in the Pathfinder world. Fan-favorite Ultra Pro created character play mats for the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game, which went on sale in the Paizo booth at Gen Con. And Syrinscape, an app for adding soundtracks to your tabletop gaming, will create custom music, sound effects, and other audio ambiance for the Pathfinder RPG, the first of which was sampled to rave reviews in the Friday night Pathfinder Society mega-event.
Each year at Gen Con, Pathfinder Society launches a new season of organized play for its 50,000 members worldwide. The new season, Year of the Demon, kicked off on Friday night when Pathfinder Society held its first Pathfinder RPG mega-event, Siege of the Diamond City. A total of 1,010 people participated in the event, including a newly engaged couple, where the would-be groom requested the proposal be written into the game. We're happy to say, she said yes.
The Pathfinder Society held a silent auction of Pathfinder rare items and in-game boons, and raised $2400 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana.
Paizo Publishing and Pathfinder-related products won 10 ENnie Awards, including:
Fan's Choice for Favorite Publisher
(Gold) Paizo Publishing
Product of the Year
(Gold) NPC Codex (Paizo Publishing)
Indianapolis establishment Scotty's Brewhouse was a must-see for any Pathfinder fan. Scotty's was decked-out, inside and out, in Pathfinder artwork, with a Pathfinder world menu, including Pathfinder Dogslicer Ale brew, and the tables were always filled with players. Its Pathfinder hospitality was second to none!
"From the landmark Pathfinder Society event, to the overflowing love at the ENnies, to taking a chance on our new card game, the Pathfinder Community made this our best Gen Con to date, and I can't thank Pathfinders enough for their support," says Lisa Stevens, Paizo CEO.
Paizo debuted the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Rise of the Runelords Base Set. It is the company's first Pathfinder card game, and its popularity was instantaneous. The game sold out in the first four hours, and the demo tables were full for the duration. Paizo encourages those looking to purchase the game to go to their local retailers on the new release date, August 28.
Paizo also debuted Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Mythic Adventures hardcover at Gen Con Indy. A Mythic character takes on the agents of deities, rushes headlong into the abyss, and strives to build a legend, all while facing-off against a wide variety of foes from common monsters to other mythic characters and legendary creatures. Check the Paizo blog for tips on becoming legendary.
"Paizo couldn't be happier at Gen Con's record-breaking success and we can't wait to start plotting next year," says Erik Mona, Paizo Publisher and Chief Creative Officer. "Thanks also to the City of Indianapolis, and to Scotty's Brewhouse, for rolling out the red carpet for Pathfinder fans and all gamers. See you in 2014!"
The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Advanced Class Guide hardcover is designed to give players and game masters a wealth of new options for their game. Each of the 10 new classes in this book are a blend of two other classes, giving you just the character you want to play. In addition, the book will contain a wide variety of rules and tools for any character, from feats and spells to magic items and GM advice. The Advanced Glass Guide hardcover is scheduled for an August 2014 release at Gen Con Indy.
Pathfinder Adventure Path: Iron Gods explores one of the most mysterious and unique realms in the Inner Sea region – a land where savage barbarians and stranger super-science mix together. In this six-volume Pathfinder Adventure Path campaign, strange technological marvels like robots, crashed spaceships, and high-tech weaponry rub shoulders with monsters, sinister cultists, and magical artifacts. The new Adventure Path launches August 2014 at Gen Con Indy.
