When the first Paizo/Dwarven Forge gladiatorial challenge takes shape at Origins June 26-29, 2003, gladiators will move their miniatures across the floor of this dynamic arena. Dwarven Forge plans to add to the arena by the GenCon gaming convention and, if there is sufficient demand, the company expects to sell arena/coliseum kits in 2004. Gladiators will compete in a weekend long, single elimination tournament with the final winner to be determined in Sunday's combat at the Paizo/Dwarven Forge arena in the dealer room. The grand prize winner will win a full-size replica sword and the winner of each heat will win game-related prizes such as computer games, magazine subscriptions, miniatures and more! Sign up now by sending your PC Gen-generated gladiator character (free download at http://paizo.com/download/BringItOn.exe) with a 25-point standard point-buy and adjustments to 4th level using the PC Gen tools. Note that special gladiatorial weapons are available in the special PC Gen gladiator kit. The first 24 characters submitted will have priority in the Origins tournament. There will also be a sign-up sheet at the Paizo booth for those who want to be stand-by gladiators and can play with pre-generated characters provided by Paizo.
DWARVEN ROMAN COLISEUM
The Paizo/Dwarven Forge Coliseum will pay homage to the famous coliseum at Rome, but the commercial set will offer expandibility.
At the DM's discretion, the gladiatorial free-for-alls in the Origins tournament will feature "spice" as described in Dragon #303. Since the basement module for the Paizo/Dwarven Forge Coliseum will not be completed until GenCon, spice may feature treachery from the crowd or summoned monsters, as opposed to monsters appearing from the basement, pit traps and obstacles. Of course, such a constraint will add a freshness to the GenCon tournament beyond the Origins experience.
THE EMPEROR AWAITS!
Dwarven Forge Studios personnel worked faster and faster as the tournament deadline approached. It was almost like they expected to have to fight in the arena if they failed to meet the goal!
PLAN OF ATTACK
Nothing was left to chance as the Dwarven Forge team went to work on the Paizo/Dwarven Forge Coliseum. As you can see from these architectural drawings, even the angles of the ramps and the seating configuration was carefully considered.
GEN CON PREMIERE
The basement level for the Paizo/Dwarven Forge Coliseum will not be unveiled until the GenCon Game Convention in Indianapolis, IN during the latter part of July. The tournament rules will be the same, but the coliseum will be even more elaborate--showing off the detailed care the Dwarven Forge artisans have used in creating the model.
